Vanilla ice cream with chocolate bonnet and rainbow sprinkles
    Caitlin K.

I remember when I would come to Marvel at their Lido Beach location when I was kid and get the vanilla ice cream with the chocolate bonnet with rainbow sprinkles. Tried it here and wasn't disappointed! Price is a bit steep but definitely worth it.

Came here with my husband after dinner and had wonderful service as we ordered our swirl of pistachio and coffee. Ice cream is super creamy and delectable - not too sweet. Not sandy at alllll. Wish there was a place to sit but it's okay - just go for a stroll up and down the block!

    Pistachio and strawberry soft serve

My friend and I had already had dinner and a different dessert, but I had seen Marvel Frozen Dairy and was just really tempted by how appealing and yummy a soft serve would be. It also helped that their prices are so affordable and reasonable, which is especially notable for NYC where it's only getting more and more expensive. So I treated myself to a little pistachio and strawberry swirl soft serve and it was a delight. My friend really loved it and I liked it. I won't say it's the best soft serve of my life but for that price and portion, it's a yummy treat and deal. And the colors look so good together.

Small Sugar Cone (~$5): Peanut Butter & Banana Swirl

Ordered: Small Sugar Cone (~$5): Peanut Butter & Banana Swirl Aya's take: At this point, I've probably tried all the swirl options and haven't been disappointed once. The Peanut Butter & Banana work so well together and the Banana actually tasted legit and not like the fake Laffy Taffy flavor. The Peanut Butter was nutty, creamy, and didn't overpower the banana or vice versa. Love that they specialize in soft serve unlike other ice cream spots in the area! Check them out.

This was our first visit to Marvel and it was great! They had ice cream, vegan options, and two flavors of frozen yogurt (banana and peanut butter). The workers at the counter were super sweet, gave us samples, and answered all of our questions about the various toppings. There is limited seating (3 or 4 outdoor tables with umbrellas) but it was a perfect respite on a warm, summer day and although this location has only been there since 2022 (chain has been around since 1951) it definitely felt like old school New York.

Marvel used to be my go-to for ice cream in Astoria. I would frequently sing their praises on IG and reddit. I *love* soft ice cream and have been missing it since Carvel left. Their milkshakes were particularly delicious. When they first opened, that was my treat every other week (or so). Unfortunately, I have to put the emphasis on "was" because something has drastically changed. It now tastes like a very strange mess - part chemical - part almost cherry. Make no mistake - it does not taste like strawberry and it does not taste the same as the ones I used to get from there. I've gotten three over the last year, in the hopes that it might have just been my taste buds. Nope! All 3 went in the garbage. $30 down the drain. Unfortunately, I can no longer brag to everyone about their deliciousness. Maybe I'll be back for some ice cream but certainly not for their milkshakes. At this point, I'd rather have one from Burger King at 1/4 the price. Fix it.

Great addition to Astoria - not just for summer! Quick - easy - delicious and just like you remembered from your early years. Crazy I didn't take photos of my chocolate ice cream as I slurped it up before it could melt down the cone!! Next time - photos!! The servers were smiley and cheerful. Plenty of chairs to relax and enjoy...as you think of having seconds! Note: it is on a side-street to make sure you look for it or you can walk right by and not notice this location. Don't forget to get extra napkins!!

I wanted to love this place after all the hype but the ice cream really fell flat. It's OK soft serve, but not great. I wouldn't recommend it as a first pick for ice cream.

It's not on 30th Avenue, but on 37th Street. Next to The Grand.
    Joyce C.

FYI- The shop is not on 30th Ave., but around the corner on 37th St. I was walking up and down the block on the Avenue looking for it, and Google maps also places it at the center of the block, where The Grand and Sugar Freak is. I was wondering if it was a pop-up situation inside one of those restaurants. But just turn the corner around The Grand restaurant. Staff was very friendly, samples are on on a regular spoon. The samples are pretty big, a hearty 1.5 teaspoon. I LOVE pistachio ice cream & theirs was pretty tasty. The ice cream is about a medium heavy creamy texture. Some soft serve (ie. Ice cream trucks) are a little bit too heavy and creamy for my palette. I think Marvel it's just heavy enough, but shows the quality with the flavors with a pop. I got the strawberry and pistachio twist in a small cup $5. The small was a pretty big portion. The flavors were very tasty! I wouldn't have thought of mixing the two. Other twist options included mango and vanilla birthday cake, and other flavors I don't remember, maybe a peanut butter and banana. Too bad that the twist combinations are already preset by the way the machines are filled, for example I couldn't get a strawberry and chocolate twist. But I think that's a standard for most soft serve places. Nice option for Astoria!

I passed by this ice cream place with lines and people eating it outdoors. I had to look it up and found out that it is fairly new and the customers are all raving about it. I had to check it out. They have variety of desserts that you can order such as soft serve, sundaes, shakes and etc... I got the soft serve after taste testing a few. The samples were fairly huge too. Tasted the vanilla - birthday cake one and the strawberry flavors. They also had toppings, but didn't want to deal with it and just eat it without. Anyways, I enjoyed both and can't wait to go back for another visit in the near future.

Yummy in my tummy really good service really good and overall just delicious so many flavors and toppings

    Zarrin Z.

-good quality ice cream, tried the chocolate and vanilla swirl with half cookie (crunchies) toppings and half sprinkles -the ice cream itself was standard (hard to mess up the basic flavors!) -sprinkles are more waxy in texture so not my fave, but the crunchies topping was nice -cute outdoor seating set up, no indoor seating I believe -prices are steep but that's the case in most places anyway :(

Marvel ice cream is a great place to enjoy soft served ice cream on a nice summer night. They have plenty of interesting flavors. The portions are generous and The prices are reasonable for the portions they give. My favorites are the strawberry and vanilla but I'm looking to try the dulce de leche on my next visit. Definitely a worth while visit if you're in the neighborhood.

There's usually a line of some length during peak hours and especially around the holidays. You can tell by the sheer volume of baked goods and cakes available in their window displays that they sell a lot daily. This location is on the main drag of the little downtown section of Forest Hills, the baked goods in the front window display connect to a tall and long glass counter along the left side of the store that extends almost to the back. At the back middle and along the right side of the wall there's seating for about two dozen people at small cafe tables. They carry an assortment of traditional cakes (full and sliced), pies, cookies, pastries, cheesecakes, cupcakes, ice cream and coffee/tea drinks. A wide variety of flavors in each, so you're bound to find something sweet to satisfy most here. They are a classic bakery so from what I can tell, they don't carry items that are gluten, dairy or nut free. I've purchased their apple pie, fruit tart, berry napoleon, red velvet and chocolate fudge cakes from this or other locations in the past and they're all solid choices for desserts to share with a larger group, though I find a lot of their cake options to be on the richer side. My most recent encounter with their cakes came in the form of a slice of their seven layer cake $9.95 which is thin layers of yellow cake alternating with chocolate cream mmm pretty tasty, and their caramel cake $9.95 which had a layer of chocolate cake in the middle, sandwiched by caramel cream and white cake on either side. The latter had a pronounced caramel flavor that was enjoyable though a bit too much cream for me. My preference would be for their chocolate cakes over other cake flavors here. It's absolutely amazing, and the filling is very generous--it feels like heaven in every bite. Another favorite of mine is the chocolate layer cake: rich, velvety smooth chocolate that isn't overly sweet. The only thing I don't agree with is that they do not clearly tell customers that dining in adds an extra $1 charge to each item. Yes, check your receipt. I'm expected to tip my waitstaff and also pay an extra dollar per item just because I chose to dine in. For example, the cupcake is usually $4.75 to go, but they charged me an extra $1 for dining in. Their cake slices are usually $9.50 to go, but I was charged $10.50. I also tipped 20%, so the added charge felt frustrating, especially since there was no clear notice. When I asked the waitstaff about the $1 charge, she said it was entered that way because I dined in. When I later called about it, the manager simply said, "Next time, just order to go if you don't want to be charged extra." That response was disappointing, especially since there was no visible sign explaining this policy, and their dine-in menu does not show separate pricing. I really think management should fix this to avoid misleading customers. Transparency matters. Don't get me wrong--I would still come back because their cakes are amazing, but from now on, I'll always order everything to go.
