Flat white
Gab G.

Was excited to have a new coffee shop in the neighborhood, but unfortunately the flat white I had was mid - you can get a better one at Birch or No Stress. Also, they could use a no-laptop policy on weekends. There wasn't a single seat in the place at like 2 PM when I visited, or I would have stayed and tried more beverages!

Inside

A couple days ago i was in the area looking to get coffee, then get some work done for a couple hours before meeting up with friends. Was recommended this spot and was glad I had the chance to drop by! The inside space is modern with simple Scandi-like design elements that's popular these days, light wood panels mixed with the warmth of exposed brick--there's a seating area in the back with a small play area for kids and faux fireplace. Fairly spacious for a cafe, they have about a couple dozen seats, mostly in configurations of 2 seats with a small table in between, bar seating for 4 in the main seating section. There are also a handful of seats at the bench and counter at the front of the store--this is where I settled myself in with a laptop and a nearby outlet. On a Friday afternoon it was pretty packed with a steady flow of people, and I observed a fair amount of remote working and laptops out. Ordering at the counter was quick and cordial, the staff was friendly, and in 5 minutes my drink was ready. The flat white with oatmilk $5.25 was smooth, creamy and perfect, no complaints there. Would drop by again if I was in the area!

This apple cappuccino was the best fall drink I've had. Can't stop thinking about it. The vibe of the place was also great and seems like a wonderful spot to work from

Lychee Matcha

A true gem in LIC! This coffee shop offers so many fun seasonal drinks, has amazing baristas, and a great space to get work done at. The inside of the cafe is spacious with tons of seating. I came here to try their Lunar New Year menu, which has so many fun and unique drinks. I've been able to try their lychee matcha and their black sesame latte and both were delicious. I loved how you could taste the lychee in the matcha, and the matcha itself was great quality. The black sesame latte was also delicious, but I wish the black sesame was a bit stronger. Nonetheless, both amazing and a go-to spot in LIC. (They also have free wi-fi here!)

I love coffee and I love cafe's in general. This cafe was beautiful. I didn't take a picture of the inside sadly, but I did take a pic of my coffee. I got a latte, regular, didn't add any extra sugar or anything, it definitely didn't need it. On top of the coffee being fantastic, the staff was great. They were nice and friendly. One of them even apologized for the latte design not being pretty, which she didn't have to, but it was great service and the cafe was cozy. When I go back to the cafe I will take more photos. Next time I go by I'm definitely going to try some of the other items. I definitely had a great experience, the coffee was delicious and I need to try it again.

Greeted immediately, was asked how my holiday was yesterday. Very good customer service here. Personally, didn't appreciate the crying baby while sipping my coffee. The front of the coffee shop has a cute little corner to sit while you look out the window. Love the cozy wooden feel to this place. There's a bunch of different style stools. Some people came here for wifi. Some people came here just to sip coffee. The prices are reasonably priced for the area. The exposed brick is really a nice touch to this location. This is definitely a go to place if you're on Vernon. I'm not sure if there are outlits in the back, but a lot or people had their laptops at the table. They have some baked goods here too. The plants in the front are a nice touch. There is a kid friendly section in the back from what I noticed. Unfortunately they don't allow pets. I would love to pet a dog or cat while sipping on some good coffee. I only got a regular cup of coffee. I appreciate that I was showen the amount of milk going in my cup. Fun fact this used to be a place called matted that had LIC memorabilia.

The two women working welcomed us in with authenticity. The shop was busy for a Friday afternoon (yay!) but even so, we were able to find 2 seats. Great vibes. Smooth coffee. A wonderful addition to the neighborhood. Will be back.

This place is super cute! A lot of people bring their laptops and do work here. I enjoyed the matcha latte, they do charge 50 cents for ice though. Also tried one of their cardamom twists (which apparently sells out early) which was not bad but was a bit too sweet for me. Definitely would like to try a croissant next time instead.

Cute little spot in LIC. Great coffee, nice space and a sweet staff. Love that there's seating inside, grab a seat early if you plan on sticking around to work. It's usually busy.

Spiced Pear Cappuccino
Dillon T.

Overflow Coffee is a relatively new addition to LIC that my local friend recommended, and it exceeded my expectations. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted warmly by the staff, who took the time to answer all my questions about the menu. I decided on the spiced pear cappuccino ($6) from their specialty menu, which the barista described as subtly flavored with a hint of spiced pear. She was spot on as it had a delightful aroma of pear that added something special to an otherwise solid cappuccino. The space is cozy and well thought out, with about six small tables that seat two, a high-top seating area along the wall that seats four, and a couple of chairs by the window. There's also a kids' area with seating and activities, making it a great option for families. For those looking to work, there are outlets along the walls and reliable Wi-Fi. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with cheerful Christmas decor and music playing during my visit, which added a festive touch. While sitting down to read, I recognized the owner, Chris, from his responses to reviews and struck up a conversation with him. He shared the story of how he and his co-owners, all local residents, started the café as a way to create a welcoming "third place" for the community. He shared how they decided to donate proceeds from every sale to the Renew Queens community center ( https://www.renewqueens.org/ ) to help support neighborhood growth. Chris also spoke about how much LIC has developed over the past decade and how Overflow hopes to be part of that progress. Overflow sources its baked goods from Native Bread and Pastry, and everything I tried was delicious. They clearly care about the quality of their offerings and the experience they provide for customers. I was planning to visit other coffee shops during my time in NY, but after chatting with Chris and enjoying the atmosphere, I might just have to come back to try more of their menu. For Pokémon Go players, there are two gyms reachable from inside the café! Overall, Overflow is a fantastic spot to grab a coffee, do some work, or catch up with friends. Chris said that they have big plans for Overflow, and I can't wait to see how they grow as well as the impact they make. Highly recommend stopping by!

Hojicha (top) flat white (left) cardamom bun

Overall a great cafe to chat, work, or even play. would come back. First time I came on a Saturday morning and there was just a constant stream of people coming in and out the whole time. It's definitely very popular! Second time I came on a Friday morning, definitely more of a coworking vibe with a couple people hanging out. It filled up around 10AM (tables taken, counter space available) but people were still coming in and out for their coffee! Ive had the hojicha latte which was great, there aren't too many cafes that serve this. Their cappuccino is good too but not my favorite, I prefer having a stronger coffee taste. The almond milk stood out more in this cappuccino. They have self serve sugar and cinnamon. Alternative milk is .75 extra I tried the cardamom bun which I didn't like, it's more of a denser pastry with a lot of sugar on it, but you do get hints of cardamom. It kind of taste like a prepackaged pastry. The almond croissant was solid but also nothing special. I still inhaled the almond croissant with my cappuccino if that says anything. There's a little play area for children, so there were a LOT of families w/children on Saturday morning (I've never seen so many strollers outside of a school life lol), and a couple on Friday morning as well. It usually does down closer to 11-1130. There's wifi, one restroom, and a couple outlets here and there, but not a lot.

They have a table to pickup preorders so you don't have to wait in the main line. I ordered a dozen for $39. You can select your assortment. Here's my review in order from the best to the least desirable, according to our group. Vanilla custard- the filling was thick and speckled with vanilla beans. It wasn't too sweet. This was the best according to our group. Strawberry filled- this is most traditional and Breads Bakery does a nice job. The jam is homemade. Pistachio- this doughnut was filled with smooth pistachio cream and was topped with a few pieces of pistachio. Not traditional, but they did a good job. Chocolate- the filling tasted like a semisweet or bittersweet cream/custard. Like the others, it was smooth. The vanilla was more popular among our group and I personally didn't love this doughnut. Mango- this was the one that those in my group felt missed the mark. It wasn't cloyingly sweet, so that was good, but the filling didn't do anything for us either. If you're looking for a mango dessert the one at Lysée is a real winner.

When I moved to the UES, I was worried finding a new local roaster. I've had bad experiences where the beans are too oily or something is off that messes with my usually grind size/extraction time. No issues with Oslo's beans. 2. They actually know how to make a proper americano. Every coffee shop takes a standard cup, puts in the espresso shot, and then fills hot water to the brim of the cup. This destroys the flavor of the espresso. You end up with hot water that tastes slightly like coffee. Oslo chooses quality over quantity. They don't fill the water up to the brim, so you have a cup with 2/3 of liquid; however, this is a proper americano. You can taste the difference. At other shops, I just get drip coffee because they don't know what they're doing. Oslo knows what they're doing. That's why I come here.
