Sometimes, you don't want a fancy breakfast taco. These days, there's too many of them anyway. What never goes out of style? A classic, potato and egg or chorizo and egg breakfast taco with a handful of jalapeño crema sauce on the side. Warning: the tacos can be a bit greasy
Truly unique and the menu is as interesting as it was delicious. The migas and the chiccarone offering caught my attention. It might be good idea to order ahead. We ordered on the spot on a not busy time and it took a good 15 minutes to get the order. The convenience store is well convenient to get the beverage of your choice .
Yep. Pretty good breakfast tacos. But for the cold, hard cash? There's better (or just as good for half the price). Migas. Tasty. Chilaquiles. Tasty. Why don't they have a chilaquiles plate? If it's good enough to wrap in a tortilla, throw it on a plate with an over easy egg! Chorizo, egg, and cheese. Greasy. Not sure if it was the chorizo or the cheese, but it more than dripped grease. All of the tacos were a bit meager. Two of us split 3 and left not quite satisfied. Good. Not in the top 10.
Staff was nice, Google Maps takes me a little offs ways but its at the corner of the gas station. Chilaquiles Taco: soft corn chips, egg, a la mex, queso fresco was a fun taco, you can add meat to if if you want. I recommend this one! I also got a bacon and a chorizo egg and cheese taco and the bacon was crispy, chorizo was not too greasy. Its all well balanced. Not a must come back for me since I personally want something a little greasyer but with its name, Con Madre, its a great place! All the tacos were fresh and came out hot! Salsa was not spicy enough for me but that can be a plus if you want clean tacos and mild salsa, a jump from fuzzys.
Breakfast burrito was delicious! I'm salivating just remembering how much I liked it! I got it with chorizo, potatoes, cheese, refried beans and salsa verde. Patio seating was nice. Service was as expected.
If you're looking for a food truck that sells a wide variety of Mexican food at a great price, a great selection of agua frescas, and shaded patio seating then Con Madre Kitchen is a spot you should consider! When I came I tried a few different items such as: - Pastor Tacos (3.5/5), Barbacoa Tacos (4/5), and Bistek Tacos (3.5/5). The barbacoa was my favorite because it was the most tender, rich, and flavorful of the three. What's also nice overall about these tacos is that they cost $2.89 each when you get them on corn. - Madre's Sautéed Shrimp Taco (4/5) & Madre's Chori-Queso Taco (4.25/5): in addition to traditional street style tacos, they have these two unique ones with one featuring grilled shrimp and the other featuring chorizo and melted cheese. These come on flour tortilla and cost $4.75 each. - Cheeseburger: wouldn't normally get a burger from a Mexican restaurant, but this was good as it had a bigger emphasis on the grilled onion. ($5.50) - 3.5/5 - Homemade Picadillo Nachos: they load the nachos up with beef, cheese, avocado, and jalapeños and this is not a bad appetizer to get if you're craving some nachos. ($13) - 3.25/5 - Madre's Frito Pie: their take on frito pie, but using Hispanic ingredients. ($8) - 3.25/5 - Agua Frescas: they have a great selection where you can get Horchata (sweet cinnamon & rice milk), Jamaica (sweet hibiscus punch), tamarindo (sweet & tangy tamarind juice) -, and limonada. You honestly can't go wrong with any of these! They all taste great. ($3.50/ea) - 4.25/5 With lots of food to choose from my suggestions would definitely be getting a barbacoa taco, a sautéed shrimp taco, and a chori-queso taco with any of the drinks! All in all, I had a good time here and would rate my experience a 3.75/5.
Coming from CA I had high expectations especially since I know it's Hispanic owned. I took one bite and threw it away it was so greasy and no flavor! Thought the chorizo would give it some Flavor but it didn't!
What a great find!!..Found this joint in route to The Hill of Life for a hike and it was just what we needed...Super friendly service and ample seating...Large menu with plenty to choose from...we both picked Chorizo, egg and Cheese and Bacon, egg and cheese..2 of each..at first we thought they were a bit pricey...but these are some fat tacos...piping hot...perfectly charred tortillas and some kickin good sauce...wife couldn't finish hers..so I sacrificed my beach bod and scarfed the last couple bite down...Lunch menu looks killer!!...Awesome visit!!
Now THIS is breakfast tacos. During our girls trip we were on a quest to find the best tacos and confirm that Austin was truly known for breakfast tacos. Con Madre Kitchen affirmed it to us. Holy moly (or should I say holy mole?) - it's been maybe two months since we've been there and we still talk about these tacos. Had we known about it sooner, we probably would've woken up and come here every day for breakfast lunch and dinner. First off, cheers to customization! I can't have physical onions, scallions, or cilantro (sad), but I was able to pick items that would best fit my tacos given this condition. Even for the chicharrones specialty taco, I easily avoided the items I'm allergic too and heavy loaded on that red madre sauce. It was all so good I went back up to the truck to order two more tacos on top of the two I already ordered. They are ADDICTING but in the most wonderful way. Particularly loved my personal make your own of potato, egg, and ham. The ham was charred JUST right and made me want more. Another combo was beans, eggs, and chorizo. My mouth is watering all over again wow And if the tacos weren't enough, the drinks were on point too. Horchata and coffee? My friends called it absolutely perfect. For me I like fruity / juice like drinks so I had to go with the Jamaica which had the perfect taste to wash down these tacos. Go here. If you don't trust me after how much I've raced in this review and how much I'm now considering booking a flight back to Austin for these tacos, then I rest my case!
Just returned post-Covid and tried the migas tacos on corn this time. It tasted fresh, especially the tortilla, but I didn't think it was worth the $$.

Breakfast tacos on perfect tortillas-yum! I'll be back to try all of the rest of the things they offer: nachos, lunch plates, mole, tamales! Probably gonna pass on the burgers and fries but they have them. They also brewed fresh coffee for me which was surprisingly good and strong. Service was adorable. Instead of calling me to the window, the person brought both the coffee and food out to me--completely unexpected given that this is a food truck that does quite a steady business. read more

First time having these tacos, delicious!!! You can build your own so I had beans & potatoes and a nopales & LA MEX (pico) both topped with they were delicious! My husband had potatoes & chorizo, ham & egg and beans & LA MEX and he says they were really good as well. The flour tortillas well cooked!!! They usually seem to be undercook and I don't like them. We had the green salsa which will be a little spicy but goooooood. Definitely coming back next time we are in Austin!! read more

We love coming here for the breakfast tacos and lunch tacos, we drive almost an hour to get here so when we come into town we make sure we make a stop here to eat! They never skimp on anything, they load these up and we love that! The salsa has changed a bit, but it's still good! I'm so glad we found this place! Their lunch menu is good too! Also the enchilada plate!!! So good! read more

I love this place! The best breakfast tacos ive had since being in Austin. Cute little place next to a gas station. Check it out! read more
Did I have the pleasure or the gluttonous fight in me to try every bfast taco in ATX? No, but I did try my fair share and I can say without a huevos of hesitation that Con Madre dolls out the best one. Specifically the chorizo one. From the fillings to the tortilla, it all came together with a POW, KABOOM, WAM. This is just a truck posted up next to a gas station, so get it to go or post up at the couple of benches they have to scarf it down on the spot. I was told not many places in Austin do bfast burritos since tacos get main billing, but they do a damn Daniel delicious version of the taco's fat ass cousin. Get it A la Mexicana style (sautéed onions, jalapeños)! read more

Best bistek I've had in Austin. Love the homemade tortillas, and the crunchy tostada. Whatever you order, get it with the queso fresco (Mexican cheese). Salsa red was tasty, but the salsa green was the best. I couldn't finish my gordita- it was huge! They also cut it all the way around so all the guts were falling out of it. No coke here just delicious aguas frescas. These tacos definitely live up to their name. read more
Really disappointed in the customer service. I ordered one chicken taco and one vegetarian taco and they gave us both with chicken. When I went up to tell them, the guy that too my order told me he's said I told him all I eat was chicken which was true but I said I asked you for vegetarian options for my father. He did absolutely nothing to get my dad a replacement vegetarian taco. He said sorry and closed their windows. Like what type of customer service is that? Next time I suggest you offer a solution to satisfy your customer. read more

South Austin has a great taco truck. Con Madre Kitchen is located on E. Oltorf just east of s. congress & next door to Curra's grill. Located in a small parking lot, this food truck is packed with flavor. Open till 3pm. Con Madre serves some worthy breakfast tacos for Austin. Well cooked eggs, tasty chorizo, good cheese, and just some of the best flour & corn tortillas. I think tortillas can really highlight the taco and this place owns it! Pay $.25 to make the taco "La Mexicana." Loved the migas tacos and I will certainly build my own set of 3 breakfast tacos. I really enjoy trucks with quality made salsa, and Con Madre have excellent red & green salsas for the tacos. Chips are freshly made and high quality. Also Con Madre has a very reasonably priced menu. Lunch at Con Madre has many options. Build your fajita steak, chicken, barbacoa, picadillo or pastor with all the options. You can also get enchiladas with rice & beans, burritos, fajita nachos, quesadillas, tortas, and even a burger. I think the fajita steak is exceptionally great at this place. Also they make fantastic refried black beans to serve. I don't think Con Madre is as well known from other spots in the Austin area, but I think you will see reading the reviews, this place is a winner. Dear Yelpers, if you love tacos, and if you love flavor, certainly make a stop here. read more

Service is great and they accept credit cards. Food: this was my first time coming here because I was craving the breakfast burrito. The pricey was reasonable and the food was freshly made. Sauces: the green sauce is ahhhmazing! Spicy and a great combo with your food read more

I went here yesterday during lunch, and surprisingly it wasn't busy! I was definitely happy to see that. Even better was the very nice man at the trailer that helped me order for my first time. Even though I read the other reviews, I could not grasp that for $5, I can buy a breakfast burrito with all of the ingredients in it...ham, bacon, eggs, potatoes, Chicharrones, chorizo, cilantro, cheese....ahh now I'm hungry. I ordered a breakfast burrito with eggs, sausage, sauteed and raw onions, cilantro, chorizo and chicharrones. Yes, I could not say no to all of the meat options...For those of you noobs like me, Chicharrones are fried pork rinds...umm yes please. When I was eating the burrito, the Chicharrones were the most prominent things that I could taste, and it was soo good. I also ordered the cheek barbacoa corn taco for $2. I wish they would have given me more meat because it was so freaking good! My friend and I've attempted to make barbacoa from tongue before which I thought turned out very well, but this was 100x better. She said it tasted like her parent's barbacoa, so it definitely passes the authenticity test! I will definitely come back here next time I want some good breakfast burritos! read more

I love stumbling upon a locally owned business that churns out great food. Taco N' Madre is clearly a family run business, and the food is legit. This red trailer has found its home in Valero's parking lot on Oltprf. Be sure to keep an eye out, especially because there's no sign on the trailer. There are also 2-3 picnic tables right next to it. I ordered the breakfast burrito.. man that thing is great. It runs for $5, and you get a 12" tortilla filled a wide array of choices. The tortilla is absolutely delicious - I don't know if it's made inhouse, but if it isn't, I want to find out where they source it from. It has that interesting chewiness that you want in your tortilla. I absolutely loved it. I opted for migas, potatoes, egg, and chorizo on my burrito, and I barely even filled it. I don't know if they lower the amount based on how many different ingredients you want to add, but I encourage you to go to town on that thing. It'll probably be enough for two meals, if you practice some self-control and wise ordering. The horchata is deliciously sweet without being overpowering, and the lemonade seems to be a hit as well. I wish I lived in the area, but I totally recommend stopping by if you're in the area. The food comes out within minutes, making for a great grab and go breakfast option. read more

I tried this place on a whim! I mean Texas tacos and we're in Austin so yea! First time I had barbacoa tacos, but they're out so pastor tacos it is. The barbacoa was very delicious and I'm sure the pastor will be the same. Cooks got a good hand, well seasoned meat but never salty. And the cashiers are always nice! I love this place read more
If there is one thing I learned on my trip to Austin, it's that food trucks are the BEST place to get tacos. Con Madre was conveniently walking distance from our Airbnb and recommended by our host as well. Breakfast tacos here are bae. YES, try it. Build your own breakfast burrito by adding 2, 3 or 4+ ingredients. All ingredients taste fresh and made to order. I'd recommend sausage, egg and cheese. Order at the truck, sit down on the dining benches and wait for someone to bring your order to you. read more

TheTACOnnoisseurs check out Con Madre Welcome back everyone! It's been a few weeks since we had a tacoventure but we're back in the swing for Cinco de Mayo. Jazz and I had heard good things about a truckeria on Oltorf called Con Madre. Those good things turned out to be true. The barbacoa turned out to be quite good indeed. It was a little sticky and we'll seasoned without being spicy. The al pastor was very good, perfectly greasy, with great flavors. The texture was a bit peculiar though, it was very soft, not tender, not mushy, but soft. Otherwise it was fantastic. butur tacos were all good sized for the price but beware that the price varies with the type of tortillas. Corn tortilla tacos are less expensive but they are smaller. The flour and whole wheat tortillas are a little higher priced but clearly bigger. All in all the tortillas are good but not great, they neither added not detracted from the tacos. If you're a fan of garlic then the green salsa is for you. Both of us preferred the green over the red which was alright. The vegetarian options are slim with only nopales listed so this may not be the best place to bring a vegetarian on a date. The overall impression was good and we settled on a B+ as a grade. These aren't the cheapest tacos we've had at $ - $$ but Jazz's Bang vs Buckometer registers as even to favorable and they will give you that sought after post taco glow. If you're in the neighborhood stop in and let these folks feed you and tell us what you think. Best flavor! From the simplest bean and cheese taco to bistek (snow falling tacos). All delicious. It's a favorite in the neighborhood. It's a food trailer, so yes, casual dining. If they ever, move to a building, hope it's nearby. read more

If you want to find the best burrito/taco in Austin this would probably be high on the list. I normally don't take Austin's taco scene seriously but I really enjoyed the food here. The outdoor seating compliments the establishment well and on a nice day it's a great environment to eat with your friends. 10/10 recommend. read more
Con madre is an absolute GEM! We often go for the breakfast tacos and burritos! They grill the burrito y'all and it is beautiful. I always get the red and green salsa. The hibiscus tea is delicious and my boyfriend loves the coffee drinks. Yes it is next to the Shell gas station. Adorable Austin spot, perhaps the best breakfast tacos here!! read more

Though you may be tempted to go for the $2 breakfast tacos, I advise you go for the $5 burrito. Unlimited additions allow you to make it the burrito of your dreams, and it's made fresh while you wait. This small, unassuming truck on the corner of East Side and Oltorf is a perfect stop on your way to work in the mornings (they're only open until 2pm). Just give yourself a few extra minutes, because these aren't some warmed up pre-made tacos. read more

Always good consistent quality tacos. The barbacoa tacos are outstanding here. Barbacoa was season just right and not greasy like most places. Enjoy the fact that you can customize them with 3 toppings of your choice included in price. The wait can be a problem sometimes. read more
