Dunn's estimate was good, and Melvin was very knowledgeable and explained the work to be done. He was polite, courteous, kind and professional. They had the chimney repaired in 1 day, once work began. No delay in starting. The repair was not cheap, but necessary. And Dunn's quote was more affordable than the other companies. The quote seemed honest -- it's hard to see in the chimney, so we trust the team helping us to be honest, not predatory. I would do business w/Dunn's again.

Purchasing my current home and inquired about getting the chimney inspected and possibly cleaned…read more Home was 60 years old and oil furnance in use. Prior owners never had chimney cleaned or inspected. Met with Vince and upon inspection of chimney and the thimble connection access that was blocked off by cinder block wall recommend a demo of the wall and a stainless steel liner, and was given a quote. Got a couple more quotes in the spring and went with ChimneyTEK because of the inspection QUALITY and pricing of the quote. The demo work needed on the thimble connection threw off all quotes and given estimates from others that were pricey (sub out demo work) or poorly estimated (unnecessary add ins not needed). I called Vince SEVERAL times to discuss and go over the quote/work (not familiar with work involved and wanted to understand the what and why) each time Vince answered my questions and definitely had a better handle on the job (no subs) had experience on my thimble issue. Crew did a GREAT job, the demo work went better than I imagined. The stainless steel liner was really needed based upon seeing how blocked the thimble was 60-65% and all the soot removed from the chimney prior to installing the liner. This job was a learning experience for me and the job went a lot smoother than I anticipated (did not know what to expect). Proof of insurance also provided before job started. GREAT JOB! It started off with 2 reminder calls earlier in the week letting me…read moreknow the technicians would be arriving at 8;00am and that I would receive a call at 7:30 (1/2 hour before arrival). So I woke up early, and no call at 7:30. Am hour later I end up calling them to see what's going on and they didn't seem to know, but reached out to the tech who ended up calling me and telling me they were about 45 min away. The office is only 45 min from my house, so don't know what's up with that. Next the 2 techs showed up and cleaned 1 chimney and we're here about 1.5 hours. Then they told me they were deeming my chimney unfit for use and gave me an estimate for a new liner at 7k. the sighted several issues. The first the there was to much creosote, and looking at the pictures i remember thinking , if they had worked a little longer they could have done a better job. Then they said my fire box needed to be re-shaped or it would cause smoke to come into my house. All the years i've lived here, i've had raging fires all winter long and not once had smoke coming into my house. The tech also noticed where i repaired some of the mortar in the fireplace and said 'whoever did that used the wrong mortar and it would have to be re-done'. Little did he know I did and used fireplace morter that i purchased at a fireplace/chimney store (still have the can it came in) In conclusion it felt like I was at a car dealership and these guys work on commission. I only used them because the regular chimney service I use every year to clean my chimney was unavailable this week and I needed it done because i'm going out of state for awile. Very responsive and they kept me updated on the progress. The workers were nice and very professional. I dont know much about chimneys but it seems evreything was done well. I was a little worried because there was a lot of debris (they had to rebuild part of the chimney) when the work was done. And some got into the flower bed that was right under the chimney. But they cleaned all of that up. I didnt have to worry. :)

They arrived right on time and completed the job quickly without sacrificing quality. Not only were they skilled, but they were also personable and easy to work with. They removed the broken glass from my fireplace, replaced it with new glass in a short amount of time, and thoroughly cleaned up afterward. The fireplace looks like new again. I truly appreciate their excellent service and will definitely be using them again in the future. Highly recommended! We received several estimates from different companies for the work that needed to be done, and were most impressed with Tom's attitude and insight. He came in around the same price as the others, but was the only one to quote more thorough work instead of what seemed like a bunch of band-aids. As he worked on the chimney, it was clear to see how meticulous and focused he is with his craft. He treated it as if it was his own. I'm surprised this is the first review, as he's been in business since 1978 and seems booked solid. I know he has a bunch of A's on that "other paid website," so don't hesitate to hire Tom. It was easy to find a time slot for the next morning with an arrival time between 8am-10am. James L. arrived on time and was courteous and thorough. He patiently took the time to review the issue and answer any questions that I had. What I loved: the ease of the automated scheduling through the website (there was no need to message back and forth like I did with other companies), free in-person consultation (other companies wanted to charge $100-150 service fee for just showing up), and James' friendly and thorough service. Give that man a raise! What could be improved: the ability to modify/cancel a scheduled appointment or a way to communicate to the scheduled technician. I contact the call center again, and nothing. Another 20 minutes goes by and a technician finally calls me. Won't tell me the price of a standard emergency call, and tells me a tech is already on their way. I simply said "cancel it". If it's this difficult to get a simple price from them, I can't imagine how more difficult things go for them. It told me everything I need to know about how they handle their business. Avoid.
