Wow I have mixed feelings about First Class Chimney. Let me start off by saying. We rented a townhouse and used them as a final move out Chimney cleaning and inspection. They arrived on March 17th. They charged us $180.00 for the service. When the tech arrived he cleaned the fireplace and he broke one of the glass doors with his equipment. He said he would replace them at the warehouse within 3 days. I told him we had to turn in keys by the 31st. He promised to have the doors back in 3 days max. Ok I gave them the whole week. No word from him or his manager Josh. Ok so now we are 10 days out and no response and I called Josh and explained that if we are charged for the doors during our walk thru I will be taking this to small claims court. It wasn't then that I was told the doors were available for replacement. Really so you had the doors but didn't intend on replacing something your tech broke until I called again. If you break something it's your job to replace it. Simple as that. If this company had been straight up with me. I probably would have used them for our new house we bought that also has a fireplace. Now I can't trust their services. We'll Josh eventually made sure he replaced the fireplace glass doors two days before the final walk thru so I'm thankful for that. Overall 2.5 stars. When you work jn DC, or anywhere in this region, you work long hours and have a demanding career. I scheduled this appt THREE WHOLE weeks ago. It involved taking days off and moving shifts around. This morning I had an 8-10 window and after waiting an hour, (it was 9:10 when I had to reach out) I should have known better. At 9:10 I called them bc they never bothered to contact me! I left a voicemail about the unprofessionalism and inquired as to were they still coming. Then all of a sudden, Josh calls me saying there was a problem with their vehicle. What a joke/lie! Had I not reached out, they would have never called me. Quite a coincidence that when I left my voicemail, his tech just so happened to call him, to let him know that he was having issues with the vehicle.(All in a 30 second time frame from when I hung up) I asked if they could come out tomorrow and he told me they are closed on Sundays. Well, it's a good business practice while you are still growing to accommodate the CLIENT being that YOUR COMPANY messed up! I have a Groupon which shows they are still trying to gather up business. Well this is not how you do it! Super shady and unreliable. Again, I had this planned for weeks and had to make maneuvers in my schedule. This is a mom and Pop amateur show. Don't waste your time. You do get what you pay for. Spend a bit more $$ and go with professionalism! People that show up on time, and early to get the job done. Not companies that offer lame excuses. I was asked if I wanted to schedule for next week. Maybe Josh did not understand how being that I had to schedule this 3 weeks in advance, that no, I cannot just "Schedule for next week." I agree that First Class isn't pushy. In fact, they're so not pushy that they're unresponsive. A neighbor and I both had them come out to look at our chimneys. I looked at the pictures the tech took, agreed I needed work done, and said that as soon as I got a quote, we could get started. After more than 2 weeks, 3 emails (all polite), and two telephone calls (also polite), I still have nothing (except some water incusion because I need my chimney cap repaired, so this is NOT just an inconvenience). My neighbor hasn't heard anything either. Josh has twice assured me that this is unusual, that they usually have quotes out within 48 hours, and that he'll have something to me by end of day. Obviously, that didn't happen either. If you look at Gary L's review (and others), you'll see that this is a pattern. I have to wonder, if they're in such disarray that they can't get quotes out to get more business, would they actually get work done in a timely fashion? read more

Another good outcome! 1st Class has just completed the replacement of a number of missing bricks on my chimney. They arrived on time, repaired the chimney and supplied before and after photos. The cost was as stated in their quote with No add-ons. Dealing with this company is drama free. I am going to recommend them to my brother and I suggest you give them a try. read more

These guys came out and did the inspection of my chimney's and fireplaces and told me they would send me a quote. Their inspector told me no problem they could get everything fixed up. After a week and no quote I called and was told I would have a quote by the end of the day. That was almost 3 weeks ago. My advice is don't waste your time and call a real professional chimney company which these guys obviously are not. That is what I eventually did and I could not be happier with the company I chose as they did a fantastic job and my chimney's and fireplaces are as good as new. read more

After researching and seeing plenty of five star reviews for this local chimney company, I booked them to do my Level 2 Chimney Inspection for the house we put an offer on. As usual with an offer, you have a strict deadline (usually 10 days) to get all inspections completed and reports back, which I let the owner know when booking. Not to mention, I have to book the property for a 3 hour window and have a realtor with me, so this is a lot of coordination. He ensured me it would be no problem and they would be on time. The days leading up to the inspection I was surprised I did not receive any sort of confirmation of appointment or reminders, or even an invoice or anything from the company so I called them again to confirm our appointment. I asked if they were going to send me information or an invoice or anything and they said no they bill afterward. When I confirmed my time, he acted like he did not remember our prior conversation where I booked the appointment. He said no problem we will be there. Even though I didn't have much confidence in this, coordinating another chimney company would have been even more work, so I said nothing. Day of the inspection, they are not at the house and I receive a call. Apparently the inspector got into 'a car accident'. And yes, I understand that accidents happen, and I am sympathetic to true accidents, but this company's behavior was completely sketchy and poor. We ended up not buying the house and I will never use this company again. read more

We are selling our four-story townhouse and were supposed to replace the chase cover on the chimney as part of what we agreed to do for the buyer. We contacted probably a dozen chimney companies and got every response under the sun. One company told us over the phone that it would probably be between $800 and $1100 to replace the chase cover; that same company charged us $199 to come out, stand on the ground, and look up at the chimney -- only to tell us that the new price was $7800 due to the required scaffolding! This terrible company knew from the beginning how high the roof was! We were seriously stressing out until we found First Class on Homeadvisor.com. From the first phone call, it truly was first class. When I told the gentleman on the phone that the roof was high, he was already looking at photos online since I had mentioned we were selling. He was looking at the listing photos and telling me that First Class does work on high chimneys like ours all the time. First Class was professional and promptly came out to give us a FREE quote. It was the only company to actually physically go up onto the roof to measure before giving us a quote, and the quote was $1250. First Class finished the job today (on time, and for the quoted price) and the gentleman who did the work even sent me photos of it when it was done! After getting the run-around from so many companies, we had started to think that the chimney industry is shady as a whole, but First Class restored our faith in the industry. This is a business that lives up to its name. We will definitely be calling First Class for anything chimney-related at our new house. read more

I'd give them a zero, if possible. I purchased service through Angie's List late last summer. I made every effort accommodate their scheduling needs (I used to work in a service industry, and understand their constraints). I suggested a range of several days ("Good morning. Any of your [suggested] dates and times (10/20/15 between (2-4 PM), 10/22/15 between (8-10 AM), 10/23/15 AM or PM) work for me".) but FCCS inexplicably asked me to confirm my confirmation after they selected one of the dates they offered. As I confirmed just a few days before their scheduled appointment, we never made the connection. I rescheduled with them for an appointment several Saturdays later. While they assured me they would be there within a 4 hour afternoon window, they did not show up, and did not call to warn me, or even to reschedule. Put bluntly, they took my money and didn't bother to deliver the promised service. or any service for that matter. My experience doesn't appear to be universal, but I've seen similar complaints about them in other fora, and I'm adding my experience to the body of reviews. Good luck. read more

This company is very well put together and offered great customer service. They cleaned, repaired and followed up with my chimney services. They did try to upsale me on the other repairs needed to chimney, I wasn't buying but I will look into it soon.They put on a chimney cap and it blew off, I called to report it and they came back out to repair and secure the cap. First Class Chimney in Columbia replaced my fireplace panels less than a year ago. Initially, they brought faulty panels that where not smooth and riddled with large bumps throughout them. They argued with me for a while insisting this was normal. The original panels where completely smooth. They did not complete the work and returned the next week with new smooth panels. A week after installation the panels starting cracking. They returned and gave me a difficult time not wanting to replace the panels. After a time of discussion they did replace them. At the time of the second replacement Tony did not want to grout the large gaps in between the panels as was done prior by his father. I insisted, saying that burning embers could fall in between the cracks underneath the fireplace. He argued with me for a stint, got nasty and then grouted. The panels have been in the fireplace less than a year and the bottom panel is cracking. I called Tony last month and asked him to please replace the panel. He refused and argued over the telephone with me for at least 15 minutes that his company is not responsible for the panels. He blamed it on the manufacturer and refused to replace the panel. Through the entire process of working with both Tony and his father they were both consistently disrespectful, argumentive and downright rude to me their customer. In turn, the company will not stand by their product and work. Also beware if you are an independent female working with this company, because they have zero respect. read more
