Clean, well maintained space with great floors for dancing. I take Oula Fitness here which is a super fun class. Fun, top 40 music (with some deep cuts), easy-to-learn but challenging-to-keep-doing moves, and a great work out. Instructors and other class members are friendly and personable and push you if you want to be push and leave you be if that's what you want too. Compfit is my all-time favorite studio in the Seattle area. I love it because they have Oula classes, which is the best dance fitness class ever, and the owner, Eric, is easy to work with. The studio itself is relatively small, as it's one mirrored room with a bathroom in the corner, but has enough space for 20+ people in one fitness class. They provide yoga mats, towels, hair ties, and a shelf to put your belongings in. There's a fun disco light that sometimes gets used in select dance fitness classes, and also warm twinkle mood lights for the more relaxing yoga classes. There's street parking, which is decently easy to find (I've gone here for almost 2 years and I've never not been able to find a spot within a 5 min walk). Now, for the classes they offer here. As mentioned above, Oula is the best. It's a 50-minute high-energy dance fitness cardio class that's full of fun and sexy moves choreographed to the latest pop hits. What I love most is how empowering the class is--it's mostly women (everyone is welcome though!) singing and dancing together to uplifting songs. I can always count on Oula to cheer me up on a bad day. P.S. if you do try Oula, I recommend booking at least your first class with Quincy, as she's especially good at getting you pumped while shouting out the moves to help you follow along. The studio also offers other classes, including Barre, Pop Pilates, Hoopnotica, Zumba, yoga (in the form of Oula One), and Mixxedfit. There's a wide range of classes for you to try, so you really can't go wrong here! I originally found Compfit through Groupon and got addicted REAL quick. I am now on the 6-month membership, which makes booking classes super easy. Takeaway: Compfit makes working out fun and easy through various group fitness classes. Yelp lurker for years, but my Compfit experience compelled me to write my first review. I've been a member since ~September 2014 (after using all 10 Groupon sessions within a few weeks). When I moved to Seattle I was looking for a place that had a multi-disciplinary approach to fitness and found this cozy little studio. I love the clean facilities, reasonable pricing, the great variety of dance vs strength training classes, and the incredible energy/friendliness of its members. What's also cool is that the classes have evolved as members' fitness levels evolve and Eric adds new classes periodically. I think this is a testament to his extensive exercise physiology background and his consideration of member feedback. Every instructor, in fact, has a positive energy that makes all classes fun. It really does feel like a little fitness family. I've attended almost every class and my (not exactly technical) interpretations are: Core & Balance: Balancing feats on exercise balls, Bosu balls, skateboard thingy that challenge focus, coordination, and core. AcroYoga: Yoga poses while braced on the feet and hands of a human base. A lot less scary than it sounds and I was surprised at what I was able to do after just one class on both flying and basing. It is a bit of a niche class in that you have to trust your own body as well as your base because you do end up upside down, but I think it's one of the coolest classes I've ever taken. Nadav is really good about safety and breaking down all the changes in weight distribution, grip, and position. It takes me a lot of concentration and core work and is awesome. Zumba: Leanne's dance class is Top40-heavy with occasionally fancy footwork that keeps it fun and stimulating. Unlike other Zumba classes I've taken that are very strictly follow-along, she will break down steps before a song which I think people appreciate. Oula: Melange of jazzercise/aerobics set to top radio hits. The songs aren't always heavy beats so you end up grooving to a song like Stuck Like Glue which I dare you to dance to without a smile on your face. Oula instructors also tend to attend each other's classes so it's like constant cheering/high energy. Oula Power: High-impact Insanity-type workout synced to awesome top 40 music. Maybe not as intense as Insanity or P90X but with the music it's definitely more fun. Lean & Tone: Mat and dumbbell workout I could be doing on my own but don't have the discipline so I come to class to have someone tell me to do it plus it's more fun that way. Bootcamp: Total body strength training by stations. Barre: Working out every large and small muscle you didn't know existed in the lower body. I've never been to other Barre classes but I think Eric's are not strictly based in ballet so be aware of that. Nobody's going to perfect your port de bras here. But your butt will feel the burn. Tribal Fusion Belly Dance: Lessons on how difficult it is to manipulate that belly plus a cool cultural education. Hajera's a really good dancer and patient instructor. Restorative Yoga: Intense stretching (like, 3 minutes per pose) and who knew breathing could be so hard? QiGong: Slow low-impact Chinese internal martial art focused on manipulating your internal "qi" (?energy). Perfect after Oula or Bootcamp which is when it's currently scheduled. All this said, it is a small studio, which means: 1. Space for ~18 people/class max so sign up online to reserve a spot (esp for Zumba and Oula) 2. Show up at least 10 min early to help class start on time because instructors reconcile their own sign-ins 3. There's no real indoor waiting area 4. The maximum dumbbell weights are currently 10 lbs (so don't expect some Crossfit-level workout) but he's talked about getting heavier ones. 5. It is a studio that's in the process of growth. I'm excited to be a part of its evolution! TL;DR: Great variety of classes for variety of age ranges and fitness levels. Try it! PS- remember for Groupon you do have to pay some WA state tax and there is a use-by-90-days-from-your-first-class clause which I think is fairly typical of most fitness Groupons and studios. read more

Looooove Compfit. I use ClassPass - after 2 classes @ Compfit via ClassPass (Zumba with Kiera & Oula with Jo), I went online to seek out new client specials / Groupon discounts. Found a GREAT deal on Groupon - under $40 for a 10-class punchcard. When I did Zumba with Kiera, I was 1 of 3 students in class (it was Friday night) which was actually so nice because we had plenty of space to move around and it felt more personal! Kiera was able to take us through the steps before each dance and ask for personal feedback from each of us. The 2 Oula classes I've been to have been more crowded - manageable, but definitely crowded as the studio is small. I wish they had a bigger space or put a smaller cap on their class size. That being said, Oula is the most fun workout I have ever participated in. The energy level is HIGH! The instructors are so much fun and everyone gets so into it - singing, free-styling a bit, laughing and getting super sweaty. This weekend I'll be going to a FREE Oula class taught by a trainee instructor! Such a nice bonus - free workout & helping a trainee succeed. I love Compfit and plan to keep attending as a regular member after my punchcard is used up!!! read more

Classes are pretty good. It didn't leave me dripping in sweat, but it did get my heart rate running. The boot camp class is good and goes by fast. I'd say it's excellent for beginners and intermediate levels. Of course with heavier weights and different positioning, you can benefit from a harder workout. The instructor (Eric) gives different options for varying levels of difficulty. He's very personable and attentive, and wants to make sure you're getting a good workout. Oula classes are fun if you like to dance- the moves are fun with jumps, shoulder grooves, and shakes. It's a totally different style say, compared to Zumba, as it's more pop style. (don't know how else to explain it!) I've taken this class with two different instructors, and I like the one instructor who goes over some of the moves before starting the song. She also verbally/physically cues when the moves are coming up which is helpful for people that don't know all the dances by heart. I've been in classes as little as 2 people including me, to a room full of ladies. Street parking is easy, and the farthest I ever had to park was a block away. read more

Planter fasciitis forced me to stop running Greenlake for 18 months. After healing I tried to get back into running but the dark, cold, raining days of November rain made it hard to do. Still, I needed to find a good cardio workout. I've been a member of CompFit for 4 years and I finally decided to try a dance class called "Oula" (google it). I'm am not the most coordinated person but the instructors (Kathryn, Sara, and Quincy) were so supportive and my classmates so kind. And what a workout! It's like sprinting around Greenlake (only warm and dry). I'm even finally learning the steps! CompFit unlike most fitness classes I'd tried. In addition to great classes, the instructors actually know your name. Everyone in so friendly. We often go out for coffee after the morning fitness classes and wine or beer after evening dance classes. If you want not just workout but a community, then you have to try CompFit! read more

This place is so under-rated. The instructors are so nice & welcoming and the classes are less intimidating than bigger gyms, and are still very good classes. I've only done the Oula with Emily & Core & Barre with Eric, and I love it! I will say, coming from bigger gyms like Flywheel/SYL, I was initially skeptical about this place and how it seemed like a "lesser" gym cos it was so small. My coworker friend had been raving about the classes she attends and finally convinced me to meet her for Oula on Sunday morning. I was very reluctant as my previous experiences of Zumba give me flashbacks with my arms flailing and my body out of control as I try to keep up with the instructor and classmates running from side to side. Oula was SO FUN! It's to the top hits on the radio with fun and easy to follow moves that get you sweaty and smiling. 50 minutes flew by! I bought the group before I went and I'm excited to give the other classes a try. The instructor Janessa warmed me as a timid new attendee with a big warm smile and she had another instructor attending her class and she really added to the fun of the environment as well. Compfit is nothing short of totally amazing. The studio is cozy, homey and artistic. The professional instructors know your name and you are always welcomed with a smile. Classes are flexible enough to accommodate a wide variety of body types/fitness levels, pushing you just enough to challenge your personal limits at your own pace. The minutes fly by in these fun, diverse classes! Dance and strengthen - what a wonderful combo!! I can't say enough about Eric, the owner. He is fantastic in every way. He is one of those people that makes you feel good just being in his presence. I've always preferred group classes over gyms, and since I moved to Fremont a year ago, I've been hopping from place to place looking for the best classes. It's surprisingly difficult to find places with classes that are fun, challenging, and varied in type and intensity . I stayed a few months at Fremont Health Club, however I attended Eric's classes almost exclusively. When he left, I ended up cancelling my membership soon after. A few months ago, I was once again googling options in the area, and I saw Compfit, and on closer inspection that Eric was the owner! I immediately signed up for a membership, and have been a happy member for a few months. Bootcamp and Oula are my favorite classes, but I've liked all that I've tried so far and regularly cycle through the various options. I really like that I can change it up, at times that I can actually attend. All of the instructors are super friendly and high-energy, but also professional and reliable, which I really appreciate. The band that practices at 10:30 PM on Saturdays and 8:30 AM on Sundays with the doors wide open really sucks, especially the bass player, who sometimes adds a note to his otherwise one-note staccato pattern. Somehow, he's so proud of his awful, talentless playing, that he wants the whole neighborhood to hear. Sorry dude, no future for you. They do give a run for the money to the screaming herd trying to out-yodel the distorted high-energy 80's trash that is at other times blasting from their underpowered and overdriven sound system. I'm not sure about the classes, but nobody seems very fit who comes out of that hell-hole, and judging by the reviews, it's basically a place to get injured by the untrained trainers. I was a long term patron on Compfit and was there even before Eric owned it (under a different name). Despite this, Eric didn't see fit to treat me as a valued patron. Formerly he had been careful to protect the class from injury. In this case, the dead lift standing squat was a new addition to the routine, and in hindsight too ambitious in a group setting without one-on-one attention. The kettlebell I was using was too heavy for me (it was the last one available), but I didn't know because it was one of the first times we had done this exercise. He could have noticed, and certainly could have prevented the injury, but instead he said "Go as long as you can go". Trusting his direction, I pulled out my back muscle, and soon after informed him I was in pain. The first thing Eric tried to do was establish the blame away from himself, at first stating that I hadn't pre-stretched properly because I was late for class, but then remembering that I had been on time that day and quickly retracted. Then claiming that I somehow hadn't done some particular stretch correctly. ha! Although put off at his lack of contrition about his part in my injury, I figured he is only human, the mistake wasn't a big deal, and felt confident that my body would heal. He allowed me to suspend my membership for a month as needed and I was satisfied with that. But a bigger person would have looked to themselves first before casting blame at their patron and my opinion of him dropped a notch. After healing and being back for a couple months, he chided me "That's how you hurt yourself" (because I was doing, as many do, catching a brief moment to put away a weight before the bottle-necked crowd rushed in). This irritated me, and I answered firmly "Don't say things that aren't true". His shoulders went up because he didn't want others to hear about what had transpired and wanted to keep things quiet. That was fine, but he should have contacted me to apologize, or at least to discuss the matter. Instead I had to wait for a time when no one else showed up for class to speak with him about it. I was looking for an apology and some accountability for his role in my previous injury. He did apologize and I felt better, but then he started listing all the reasons why he didn't have to take it to heart, even trying to end it with "just a communication problem". I wasn't going to let him off the hook like that, nor cater to his but-I-have-a-master's-degree-in-exercise ego, and countered his arguments. Then he got angry, patriarchally saying "I'm going to say something and then this is ending in 5 seconds", very obviously escalating, and acting as if a superior shutting down a subordinate. As I was leaving he suggested that he was willing to cancel my membership. I responded that was fine, and that he should refund me the current month. He refused. I told I would leave him a negative Yelp review. Suddenly he made a turn-about and decided to be contrite about trying to blame me. I went along with it and tried to make up as I hadn't been thinking I'd be leaving the gym which had been a staple for me for several years. However, knowing what an immature egotist misogynist he was, later changed my mind, and decided to cancel before the next monthly charge. Found out that his website doesn't allow cancellations, requiring that he be contacted, and that a fee would apply. Although knowing he'd be glad to see me go, I cancelled my credit card, rather than wait for his cancellation approval, and allow him to 'magnanimously' waive the fee. That said, I must put in a positive plug for the dance instructors he hires. They are overarchingly fabulous and I miss them. read more

So glad I stumbled onto this new secret little studio! Have taken Zumba, Boot Camp and Lean & Tone. Started with a punch card as the studio was transitioning to new owner, Eric. Watched the space change in a few weeks...paint, stereo, new equipment..and classes with Eric himself. It's not a huge space, classes are a nice diverse group of ages/levels (all women so far), very welcoming and unpretentious. I have learned so much in just a few weeks and am already seeing changes. Lots of street parking, punch card, drop in or monthly membership. Eric is motivating, fun and takes great care to ensure everyone works out at their own level and with best form. I'm hooked..for the first time ever I look forward to going to morning classes and feel energetic all day long. Going to try a Barre class next. read more

This place is awesome! I'm a ballet dancer and for years have been supplementing with hot yoga, but even with all of my flexibility I find I am still losing strength in my core and upper body. This studio offers the perfect high energy cardio workout I need to get my shoulders and arms moving without having to bulk up or go the cross fit route. All of the classes offer a fun, approachable routine with inspired instructors who keep the energy moving for the full 50 minutes. I have been searching for a gym that's more convenient and personalized than the huge franchise options around town. Many groupons later, I've finally found it! Compfit is just that - a gym that offers complete fitness through a wide variety of classes and times. Eric, the owner, teaches many of the classes and is fantastic! He makes the workout fun and pays close attention to your form. I've tried many of the classes, but have landed on 'Lean and Tone' and a dance class called 'Oula'. Others are good too, but these work well for my schedule. If you're looking for a variety of workouts with great instructors look no further. I was first introduced to owner Eric Wilson through Barre classes he taught at a local gym. I really appreciated that he was not only very knowledgeable (extensive fitness & dance background) but that he took the time to make sure everyone had good form and motivate us (with awesome music mixes) to push but only to the point of not over-fatiquing or injuring. His care and fun demeanor has carried over to his Compfit dance studio where he continues to teach Barre, plus Boot Camp and Lean & Tone. The other instructors (I've taken Zumba, Oula, and Latin Dance Party classes) are equally as great. I love the fact that everyone has been so welcoming, that the studio has wood floors and great ventilation, and that there is a variety of classes to get my cardio and strength training on. Plus, I get a free fitness evaluation every 8 weeks w/my monthly membership to keep me on track. ;) I can honestly say I look forward to my workouts! Also, there is free street parking, or you can park in the nearby Post Office lot after 6p close M-F when streets get a bit more crowded. read more
