The coaches at this PureBarre are so incredibly nice and are super attentive to everyone in the class (I don't know how they do it !) they really do care for everyone's success in the class. This location probably gets least amount of publicity as far as social media wise, but this location is the best Pure Barre in Puget Sound. Its great because its less crowded than Greenlake or Queen Anne or Bellevue, probably because: 1) more students here (who have midterms, going home/travel during school breaks, etc); 2) it's a smaller facility and even with FREE parking in the back, people assume /and just park on street which may draw less people here if they find that less convenient; 3) you will find less intensive / "breaking the barre (basically pure barre intro)" class offered. This is the best location just because I dont like to be crammed when I'm trying to exercise; and the teachers are THE BEST and with less students they are able to correct my forms. read more

*30 DAY CANCELLATION POLICY* They require either a written notice or email to cancel the service. However if not done within 30 days, they will still charge you for one additional month. No one has notified me of such policy when i signed up, so I called and they say it's in the contract. So i asked can i at least downgrade (i had an unlimited membership) and then they say downgrade also requires 30 days, i can only upgrade, haha. It's my fault for not thoroughly reviewing the written contract (super bitter but true), but at the same time i'm assuming there's a lot of people like me out there getting charged one additional month due to their cancellation policy! Regarding the workout: I don't have a problem with their intensity, but a lot of their workout involve you lifting your heels for a long time. Of course it's up to you to decide how high (or even you do it at all) you go up, but not sure if it's really good for your knees. I started getting knee pain after doing pure barre. Plus the class can get extremely crowded so don't expect instructors to correct you often. Just make sure you know what you are doing! One of the better barre studios around! I recently joined the barre movement and have been frequently different studios after trying it out because it is surprisingly challenging. Barre is focused on isometrics (contractions of a specific muscle or group of muscles) and is a great activity for those looking for a workout that is lighter on cardio and strength building, heavier on toning and strength maintenance. There are slight variations here and there between classes and instructors, but you'll always leave class feeling GR8 about your body n booty. [+] Classes are never too full which makes for a comfortable workout, studio and equipment are sparkly clean, locked storage cubbies are available for holding valuables, workouts are synced to great music, variety of movements will keep you on your toes (literally and figuratively) throughout class. [-] Could be more form correction and modification for different skill levels (especially beginners, given the fast pace), could have more variety of classes to target different fitness goals (there are currently two types available: Pure Barre and Pure Empower). I also appreciate the community built around Pure Barre. They seem to have great package deals for those ready to commit long-term and regularly offer fun things like leaderboards, X-day challenges, and local events around town. I have been to Pure Barre on a regularly basis and absolutely love it. You don't have to sweat here if you don't want to. In order to get results here, it depends on how hard you work during the classes. I have had sessions where I didn't feel like working hard and I didn't sweat at all during the routines. However, if you work hard during the class, you will sweat. It is also about small movements throughout the class. Most of the time, only yourself can feel (and not see) the movements and routines in your muscles. Classes are normally from 55 to 65 minutes, depends on your instructor. The studio was a little tricky to find at first. I parked in the garage, took the elevator up to the main floor and made a couple turns down the hallway to get to the studio. (this was the back entrance.) There is a cubby as soon as you walk in where you can put your shoes and belongings. Before you go to the floor, you need take weights (2, 3, or 5lbs), a ball, and a resistance band. I wasn't sure which weight to take with me, but 3lb was plenty hard! We did a lot of pulsing and small circles for our arms, which was killer! We used the ball to consistently work our inner thighs (squeezing and then pulsing the legs). The class was hard (in a good way) and made me sweat, which I wasn't expecting. I thought it would be a low-key ballet class, but I was wrong. I left feeling good, and the next day I definitely felt the soreness all over my legs. If you take classes from here, there's no doubt you will see results! read more

I have been scared of gyms for a long time, I'm not in shape and I'm not flexible- but when I came in I was blown away! The classes are so hard, but I'm smiling the whole time. Pure Barre is an amazing workout. You will be left fatigued but empowered! Pure Barre is great for toning and lengthening those tricky muscles I have never seemed to be able to get to otherwise. A few helpful hints: bring your own pair of socks or you can purchase a pair at Pure Barre for $10-$15. I have worn my own socks and it was totally fine, but Pure Barre's sticky socks are definitely helpful. The floor is carpeted so socks are required. Overall I would definitely recommend! read more

I began going to Pure Barre about 7 years ago when I was in high school and ended up doing a 40 day challenge with them at the Queen Anne location. After moving and getting through college I decided to rekindle my Pure Barre love and started going to the University location and was not disappointed. I'm a 27 year old reasonably non-athletic female who hadn't set foot in a gym for a year + prior to beginning Pure Barre. I started taking classes exactly 3 months before my wedding day in August this summer, feeling semi-anxious about my residual lack of tone and "glow" after a long Seattle winter and very determined to look my best as a bride. At the recommendation of the owner, Sami, I started with the new client special followed by the bride-to-be promotion, which ended up being a really great combo deal for an entire summer of unlimited classes. I was seeing differences in my body by 5 classes and starting to feel like I was really getting the hang of the form and maximizing the effects of the workout (tuck your hips and reduce the size of your movements!) by 10 classes. By a month in (averaging about 4 classes a week) I'd already lost several pounds and by 2 months people were starting to comment on my new shapely arms. My "seat," thighs and waistline hadn't looked so good since my teenage years! By my wedding day, my tailor had taken in several inches from my wedding dress and I was feeling completely fabulous and confident and so happy and so grateful I'd committed to Pure Barre for the summer!! I should mention that I did pair a lot of this with a more careful eating plan (nothing extreme). But I literally did NO other form of exercise the entire summer... so PB really does get most of the credit. Best instructor goes to Sami, who is clearly way more experienced than all of the other staff, but props to Dana's bubbly energy level and Frances' attention to ensuring you have the proper form (she's a great instructor to start with while you're still learning). Drawbacks are that there is a bit of a pretentious vibe and this sort of weird competitive undertone happening with some of the women in the room. Not to mention the unspoken expectation that you come clad in a super-cute Lululemon ensemble including special Pure Barre brand grip socks (you can always tell the new students in the room by their unassuming gym shorts/tee-shirts/bare feet). Also, lots of the desirable time slots fill up quickly so you have to plan pretty far ahead with the online booking system. But all in all a GREAT way to get back in shape and feel pretty awesome. I am not a fan of the gym. Mainly because no matter how often I go, I never really see much results. I tried out Pure Barre after seeing that they had a deal on Livingsocial, and I was really excited to try it out. I saw results after just one class!! I was really happy to feel that my abs and obliques were tighter just after 1 hour of intense workout. I was a bit out of shape when I first started, and I can definitely say that it burned so good. The instructors are really friendly and helpful. When it's a smaller class, they can give you extra attention and correct your form while you're doing the exercises. Depending on how hard you push yourself, you can still get a decent workout without sweating too much. They do a very similar routine for each class that works out your arms, legs, thighs and core. A lot of it consists of small movements and "tucking" (pushing your tailbone in while keeping your hips still). They play really good beats that go along with the exercises! Most of the ladies who go here tend to wear a certain attire of leggings and Pure Barre's signature "sticky" socks, which are actually quite helpful to keep your feet from sliding on the carpet...but regular thin socks should be fine too. Classes here are super expensive. I was lucky to snag a deal where they offered a 10 class punch card for $120 (reg. price $200). Sign up for the email list for special offers! Pure Barre is my absolute favorite workout that I've ever tried... and I've tried DOZENS. The teachers are fabulous and it is truly suitable for all ages, shapes, sizes, and fitness abilities. The music is engaging and the hour class goes by super fast- I'm TOTALLY hooked. I know many women in my classes who don't have a fitness background and they have seen amazing results. I am a fit person, but Pure Barre is leaning out my muscles and toning my body in a way that I have not been able to achieve in my years of working out. It is such a treat to exercise in such a supportive, comfortable environment with women who are kind and encouraging to all. I am not big into working out. In all honesty I like to do the bare minimum that I need to do to feel good. I usually get bored at the gym. I prefer playing competitive sports. I think running sucks. I'm in LOVE with Pure Barre. In LOVE. Pure Barre is a 1hr full body work out. You will use muscles that you didn't know you had. You will challenge yourself. You will want to come back, so that you can one day do the splits and lift your legs with your abs. The whole time really fun dance music is playing. The teachers are so nice and helpful and provide guidance the whole time. They will push you and help you do your best. After class you will go buy some Lululemons because its a fashion show in there. At night you will sleep like a baby and the next day you will be so sore, but its worth the toned, slender, feminine, strong body that you will get. Go try it out!! read more

I used to think I was in shape - shoot, I work out 4-5 times a week but taking this class reminded me of how much I needed to full body workout. The instructors here are amazing - my personal favorite is Britt, but you really can't go wrong with any of these great ladies. Someone told me to avoid classes here unless you're in shape and have awesome workout clothes. While there's some truth to those comments I'd hate to have someone turn away from an AMAZING workout just because you don't think your pants look lululemon enough... There's no judgement in the class and that's probably what I like best about it, everyone is so focused on working themselves out that no one cares if you've walked into the corner and decided to lay down because your body is exhausted...true story folks. Now if only I could afford to be a regular member here, back to the regular old gym for me. read more

I've been going to Pure Barre for a couple of months and am addicted. I've seen great results and the teachers are energetic and fun. I have a dance and yoga background, so I found it easier to pick it up. If you haven't had that experience, it may take a little longer and be more frustrating. Regardless of your experience, be prepared for intense burning as you work your muscles to fatigue. The small movements are deceptive! Each class is very similar to the next, down to the warm-ups and stretching. As far as exercise classes go, it's on the pricier side. Do look out for promotions that they offer. For Christmas, they are offering a 3 class card for $25, which is a great deal. Another plus is the convenient schedule, which offers morning, afternoon, and evening classes in both the U Village and Bellevue every day. read more

Be prepared to work on muscles you didn't even think you had. This is a fast paced, high energy workout. You will definitely be exhausted and sore by the end of it and still feeling it the next day. But in a good way. I had a great time and kept up for most of it even though it was my first time. A lot of the moves look easy but they are NOT. Here they provide you with all the equipment you need which includes the mat, weights and bands. Just wear what you would normally wear to a yoga class, but bring some thin socks to wear. I would have given 5 stars, but I feel like they could do a little more coaching or instruction, but it was very minimal adjustment and not much in the way of instruction. To be fair, I suppose it is hard when the music is jamming and you have to keep the energy up for everyone. If you get lost, just keep going. You will catch on after a few times. read more

I love you Pure Barre! The ladies teaching the class are spectacular, stunning, and sweetie. Sammi goes above and beyond getting to know her clients and I feel like I'm going to hang out with friends instead of getting a kick butt workout. I tend to frequent the Bellevue location considering I live on the Eastside but every once in a while I get the opportunity to visit this studio. The classes are far more occupied than the Eastside but you still get the same great attentiveness from each instructor. As for the work out.... Amazing. I signed up for the one month for $99. Going five days a week my body changed drastically. Everything just tightened. I had amazing arms, a killer bum, slim thighs, and sculpted abs. They really focus on a womans "problem areas". The routine changes constantly and I'm never bored. You're given the option to push yourself as hard as you'd like. I feel like it's personal training with the added competitive benefit of having other people going through the same challenges. I always benefit from the "If that girl can do this then I know I can!" attitude! I've taken a break the last few months but I'm making the year commitment this Saturday. Not exactly a "fun" workout, but you will get strong, toned, and feel sore the next day. Good for a day when you don't want to feel sweaty but you want the benefits of a solid workout. Studio is always clean, comfortable, and the staff are welcoming. I didn't give it a 5 because I prefer more of a cardio/strength mixture with my barre classes and this class doesn't have a cardio component. read more

This is the kind of class that will remind you that you're not in decent shape when you think that you are. I like yoga and pilates, and I also did dance when I was younger, but none of that mattered when it came to taking this class. Yesterday was my first barre type of class ever...and it more than kicked my ass! It felt very circuit-like with stretching between each move, but it also didn't feel like some boring routine (which is good!). The small movements really bite you in the butt, literally...I'm actually happy that I get to sit down all day at work because there's no way I'd want to be walking today. Gold star for the music - it's true that this really keeps you going. I think at one point I was so tuned into the music that I forgot about how much pain I was in and pushed myself even harder. The women (and one man) in there seemed to be regulars because none of them had to stop and take any breaks (unlike me who probably skipped a few 5, 6, and 7 counts). Docking one star because the location is kind of weird especially for a first timer - I probably would have gotten there earlier if there were signs pointing to the main entrance instead of meandering to the back entrance where the door can lock..... I probably won't be doing it again in the Seattle location since it's no where near my home or work, but I do plan on using my free class in the Bellevue location. Though, the instructor and the front desk were very friendly! I also kind of want to try Barre3, just to compare. read more

Pure Barre in Capitol Hill is great. All of the instructors are friendly and great at helping with accommodations if needed. The facility is clean and there is always enough equipment for everyone. I have taken my 5th class and I am in love. I sweat a lot because I got out of shape, but looking forward to how I get in shape with pure barre. It works muscles that other workouts do not. Sometimes I find myself sore in new places. The instructors are definitely helpful and can modify some moves if you are struggling or not there yet so a great workout for all levels to work out. It is a mind and body workout so they empower and motivate you throughout the work out so that you can believe in yourself. Give it a shot. It is a workout friendly to all body types as well. I am curvy and have not felt out of place in the classes. read more
