I wanted to like this place, I really REALLY did. Upon ordering a fitness package, she charged me way too early. I had communicated that I wanted a specific and later charge/start date. It worked out, but it threw off my budget. I would not have even known they charged me HUNDREDS if I hadn't been checking my account. I chalked this up to a mistake and didn't make a big stink. Unfortunately, the workout floor smells...but this is the least of my concern. I emailed to cancel, and was told when my last necessary payment was due. That was fine, because I had committed to payments up until this date. After this final date, however, I was then charged AGAIN. I emailed to ask why this happened, told I had to fill out a form to cancel. I agreed but asked for reimbursement.. I am still waiting for a confirmation that it is cancelled. I had never been informed via email that there was a form to fill out, so it came as a surprise. Called several times and cannot reach any person. This is feeling more and more like a scam to me, and even if they're mistakes they are playing with our money. Save yourself the headache and go somewhere else. read more

I've been going to the Green Lake Pure Barre on and off for 2 years. I take breaks for the financial aspect, but I keep coming back for the inclusive, encouraging atmosphere. I really enjoy the workout that Pure Barre has brought into my life; the way the exercises, over time, tone every muscle to have that beautiful, almost hourglass shape. In my case, I wouldn't say my body is an hourglass shape (curvy Latina) but with PB, I've noticed a huge difference when I take it and stick with it! PB Greenlake is a very welcoming place and the instructors are fantastic!! (a huge shout out to Fawn L, Emma C, Maya H and Erin F.) if anyone needs a recommendation on an excellent instructor, those would be the ones who I'd recommend, who personally helped me and I enjoy. However, despite all the praise, there are a couple things I wish they would address or focus more on/or less! A big one--the music, it's deafening! Has it gone up or are we losing our hearing? It's kind of nerve racking and some days makes me feel less encouraged to work out, and the instructors have to yell over the music. Hope they can find a comfortable balance for all to enjoy. Second: it's quite $$. Luckily I can attend classes through my job, but without it, nope, would be way too expensive. And lastly, the lockers are too small for small backpacks or wallets, plus shoes. Kind of annoying. That's it. read more

I love the quality you can expect going to any PureBarre chain and this Green Lake location is no different! Friendly instructors, clean studio and reasonable class sizes! I've been going to various PureBarre's now for over two years and still continue to feel challenged while I'm there and accomplished the next day when I'm always very sore. This place was so great with the original owner. She was about the experience and the people. Now they harass you AFTER you cancel your membership. I'd expect to pay the remainder of your cycle but now they want you to pay an extra month of membership (a full cycle). It makes no sense. Now they're telling my card has expired and they want to charge fees. The new owner is a crook. read more

Pure Barre at Greenlake is my favorite studio to attend workout classes at! The staff are super friendly, remember your name and care about you as a person. I had an ankle injury and the teachers were great about providing me with alternative exercises when needed. The environment is overall very positive and uplifting. Two longtime Barre devotee friends introduced me to this studio/ method. I did a unlimited intro pass for the month of August and took advantage of as many Barre classes as possible. Now I am just getting 10-class passes, which works out to about $20/class. I definitely feel so much better after a workout, even if I feel meh about showing up (I am totally anti-workout, but now that I am in my 40s, it's that or not eating so what's a girl to do?) Surprisingly I am loving the classes and motivated to continue to push myself. Some days are great, others suck... but as the motto on the wall states "You are only one workout away from a good mood! :)" Other Yelpers have gone into the details of the workout type, so I won't go into that here... other than to say I'm happy. There is no chubby shaming here (even though everyone looks very toned) and the restrooms are excellent changing rooms (complete with complimentary spray deodorant- much needed after coming straight to Barre from a long day of work!) This location is fairly new, clean and easy to get to for being in such a busy neighborhood. You can park at the PCC and receive validation after making a purchase. The instructors are all very good. For class with around 30 people, they are very attentive. Get there 10-15 min early in less you want to be in the front or in the middle of the room. The playlists differ from instructor to instructor, so there is variety. I never regret showing up for this workout and always feel the effects days later. I only wish the class bundles were a little more affordable. read more

Love this studio! I've been to the Redmond and Bellevue location a few times and I'm so impressed by the quality and the predictability of every single class. All classes are amazing and are taught by great instructors. All studios are clean and welcoming. The only con for Greenlake is that parking is not free in the garage and street parking is so hard to find. I moved to Lynnwood and for a few months I went to Barre3 because it's close to my house, but the drive to Greenlake for Pure Bare is so worth it! Just overall better workouts! I'm still pretty new to Pure Barre, and I've been jumping around to different studios around Seattle with my ClassPass membership. After visiting all of them, I'd say this one is definitely my favorite Pure Barre studio. Some studios feel pretty cramped, but this one is spacious and the layout is really nice. I also love that PCC will validate your parking, so I tend to wander over to PCC after class and grab an energy bar and get my parking validated. Saves the stress of looking for a spot on the street! I did the free week and then intro month at Pure Barre - Green Lake. The full 55 minute barre workout was great! My goal was to get some aerobic exercise + build lean muscle, and the ballet inspired moves + core workout are the perfect fit for this! My first class was hard because I didn't realize there were ear plugs to use at the front desk - the very loud, very upbeat music created some distraction and honestly, anxiety for me, and occasional actual pain (I have sensitive ears). I did the 45 minute Empower class 1x - did not like it, the equipment changes + no pause for changing meant that I ended up doing 1/2 the repetitions for each exercise, there was significantly less oversight by teachers whether we were doing the exercises correctly, and overall, it just seemed rushed. I didn't renew for a regular price membership, simply because it is too expensive for me. Staff was friendly, helpful and mostly timely (always a risk with group classes that they will often start late - I honestly think this was due to participants' tardiness, not the staff). read more

I absolutely love Pure Barre. I was hesitant to try it out, because frankly it is a bit expensive, and I was convinced that workouts that aren't cardio-intensive wouldn't allow me to burn the calories that I want to. That said, several gals I work with go to Barre, and got me hooked. I've been going consistently for about 4 months, and I have to say I love it. Pros 1) My fitness goals are not necessarily to "lose weight". I'm pretty little (~5 ft. 1 in) and 110lbs, and what I really want is a sculpted, ballerina body (though not that skinny). After four months, I've definitely noticed an increase in my muscles and tone. I normally have tiny weak arms (bicepts, tricepts, etc.) and I have FINALLY been able to get some serious tone in my arms and abs. This workout really has burned fat for me and built muscle, which is exactly what I want. 2) I have never felt so welcomed in a workout community. I think this is a direct result of the "tone at the top" from Sami and Brandon, but not only do the teachers make an effort to learn your name and greet you, but they also have community involvement activities. For example, I went to a "Bring on the Men" night, and was finally able to lure my husband to Barre with me, as they provided us all with Fremont Brewing beer at the end of class. They also did a donation class to benefit MS, and have brought nutritionists in to do coaching sessions. 3) This is a very low impact workout. I do not fear that I will be injured during class, and feel very safe the whole time. You also stretch in between exercises, which helps with muscle recovery for me. I'm also getting much more flexible. This is big for me, as years of soccer, softball, and cheerleading without proper stretching have left me with very tight muscles. 4) There are very few teachers that I haven't liked. My favorites are Sami (obvi), Maya, Dianne, and Kristen. But you really can't go wrong. 5) The Greenlake location is my favorite. It is open, inviting, clean, and overall perfect for the workout. 6) You don't need any equipment but a waterbottle and some sticky socks. While you can buy socks for $15 in-studio, I've heard you can also get good ones at Nordstrom for less. I also recommend wearing longer yoga/running tights [not shorts] because you'll sometimes put a double-band around your thighs and legs which will pinch your skin if you don't have protection. 7) Pure Barre is technologically savvy. You sign up and change classes online. Cons 1) Pure Barre is expensive. I'm paying the cheapest rate for unlimited, which is $150/month w/out tax. Also, if you don't cancel your class within 4 hours of the class time, you get charged $15. Socks are also $15 for the fancy sticky official Pure Barre ones, and yes, I've bought 5 pairs [don't tell my husband]. That said, I Pure Barre it is 100% worth the cost. 2) This is not a super cardio-intensive workout. For someone that's used to having their heart rate around 160-180 during workouts, this was definitely an adjustment. I was fearful that I wasn't actually getting a good workout. That said, according to my Apple Watch my heart rate is typically between 130-160 each class, with peaks around 170. I also average a calorie burn of ~300/class with a max of 400 and a low of about 250 [depends on the intensity of the teacher]. To compensate, I do hot yoga or run Greenlake twice a week in addition to 3-4 Barre classes. 3) If you want first choice for classes/teachers, you have to sign up online, well in advance of the class. For a Sami class, I recommend signing up a week early. Pure Barre is popular because it's so awesome! Overall, I am a dedicated Barre addict, and would recommend this to anyone who wants lean, toned muscles. read more

Pure Barre Greenlake is the best! The location in the heart of Greenlake is ideal and the community aspect at the studio makes you want to continue coming back. There are often engaging challenges to encourage participation which offer motivation and variety. The hardest part about Pure Barre Greenlake is the parking, you either need to street park or validate in the PCC garage. As for the classes itself, Pure Barre offers 4 different class formats at frequent times throughout the day to accommodate many different schedules. There workout is challenging, with options for modifications encouraging several skill levels. Give Pure Barre a try today using their first class free option! read more

I've taken several classes here now and I highly recommend trying out different instructors to see who best matches your intensity level, personality, and work out style. So far, I have taken classes with Kristen, Samantha, and Fawn. Kristen: Really great if you're just starting out. Out of a scale of 1-5 the challenge level is about a 3. You'll shake, but Kristen will give you stretch breaks. Samatha: Challenge level is about a 4. Fewer stretch breaks and more fast pace. Fawn: Personally, I enjoy her class the most. On a challenge scale it's about a 4.5 or 5. You don't get as many stretch breaks, the stretch breaks are shorter, the class is a faster pace, and she pushes you. If you are looking for a challenge and enjoy being sore, take her class!! Each of the instructors are very knowledgable, helpful, and teach solid classes. It just comes down to what you're looking for and who you match up best with :) The Greenlake studio is very clean, they play good music, and there are lockers you can store your things in. I definitely recommend it. read more

I'm a long time Pure Barre member of a few years, though up to this point I've only ever gone to the University District location next to U Village. This location opened in early July 2014 as a part of the new Greenlake Village development (formerly known as the giant hole in the ground!) For people who have never taken barre classes, prepare yourself for a very brutal, grueling workout that does get somewhat easier after the initial death period, but is never anything less than a serious challenge. The good news is, the energy level in the room (complete with fast energy dance tracks) is infectious, and even if/when you have to take a quick pause, you quickly realize you aren't alone. Any initial self consciousness you might have goes out the window when you realize that everyone else is working as hard as you are and no one cares how much you might be wobbling or shaking, since they are too! It's a fantastic, effective workout. Now on to the comparisons (U District vs Green Lake) and some other technical details: -Greenlake Village has a big (paid) parking garage so no worries about having to deal with side streets. If you take an early weekend class street parking is available relatively easily, though. Parking "isn't validated yet" according to the first person I asked, though who knows if that means it will be validated eventually. :) That being said there's a gorgeous, huge PCC next to the studio and they validate, so go on over and grab a handmade protein smoothie post-workout and get your parking for free. Even if you don't, it's only $2 for 1-2 hours. -There isn't a changing room like at U District; there's a big/nice bathroom, but still probably better to change before you get there -The layout feels less secured, belongings-wise. In the U District studio the locker area is in the back of the studio, so you'd have to walk through the main room to get to where your stuff is. I always felt comfortable leaving a backpack there, for example, if I came straight from work and needed to put my laptop somewhere. In the greenlake studio the lockers are in the front room and they're fairly small, no room for backpacks. The lockers do have locks. -It's a little less private. In the U District studio there's an inner door that remains closed and outside of the studio isn't a highly trafficked area anyways, so you can generally not have to worry about people gaping in at the relatively awkward positions you're in. Green lake has an inner door but it's full glass (and sometimes not closed), there's a glass door leading outside, and it's on a very heavily travelled street. About 2/3 of the studio is behind a wall, but classes are usually full and if you're in that other 1/3rd (or if you find yourself on that wall during the bar exercises), people can and sometimes will stare in/gape at you. During one of the classes I took, a maintenance guy with a leaf blower was pretty obviously loitering there looking in for awhile and it was weird. The moral of the story is try to go to the back of the room. -People often complain about barre classes being full of size 0 co-eds wearing nothing but Lululemon gear and that there can sometimes be a weird competitive spirit in the room - the former is definitely true in the U District studio, but so far the classes at Greenlake have been anything but. The ladies have been a wide range of ages and sizes, there's not a nonstop fashion show going on, etc. Perhaps U District is like that mostly because of all of the college students nearby? Who knows. Overall I love the Green Lake location - the same friendly, awesome staff I've come to expect at the franchise, super convenient to restaurants/PCC, easy parking, and a great workout as always. read more

After moving to Ballard from Cap Hill, I'm so glad I have found my new Pure Barre home! The studio is luxe and clean. I love the amount & variety of apparel they sell. All of the teachers at this location are TOP NOTCH! I've never take a class I didn't like. Favorite class: Mondays with Sami! The one thing that is a little different from the Cap Hill studio is that the floor inside the actual studio isn't concrete, it is carpet covering a wood floor. At first it caught me off guard but now that I've been going regularly, I no longer realize it. read more

I took this class through ClassPass for the first time today. Over the past year I have taken a lot of barre classes and this one rivaled Flybarre in difficulty. The instructor pushed everyone hard and made your workout worthwhile. She was also great about fixing your form without being too disruptive to your workout. The only thing that was sort of rough was they don't validate parking for the parking garage located underneath the studio. This is kind of problematic in Greenlake which is always busy. So if you are going to go to a mid morning/afternoon class on the weekend make sure to leave early to allow some time to find street parking. Alternatively, the PCC will validate parking for up to an hour and a half with purchase. Also, if you've never been before, be warned you will need to buy some grippy socks before class (or bring them if you already own some). Happy pulsing! read more

I have a relatively healthy relationship with exercise from practicing yoga, rock climbing, hiking and/or backpacking, and trying out any and all new exercises. I learned about Barre from someone at a yoga studio and decided to give it a try. I felt pretty self-conscious the first time I tried it, but what I realized was that I enjoyed the mental challenge to persevere through the workouts and the challenge of speaking kindly to myself. TUCK! SQUEEZE! HOLD! LIFT! There's so much tucking going on, you'd think this was RuPaul's Drag Race (ha-HA). I think fitness is so much about personal preference and there is a reason why you don't see a lot of guys (or any) at Barre classes. First, let me start with the disclaimer that this was my first Barre class, so I'm no expert at this but I'm quite the fitness fiend. I tried Pure Barre as part of my fitmob membership. I really like their website. It tells you everything you need to know for your first class (READ IT, newbies!), except... that the first class is free (don't worry, they'll credit it for your second class). I felt immediately welcomed when I signed in. They had smartly marked the newbies on the class list so the instructor could go over basic Barre concepts. The space is small, but it's modern, clean, bright, and very well organized, making the transition between classes very smooth. The workout is very targeted and is best described as small contractions, which is why this is not a good avenue for your aggression. You won't be throwing or slamming things around, you'll probably only move different body parts 3 inches at a time. This doesn't mean you can slack off. Even with 2-lb weights, you'll feel the effect on your shoulders instantly and as you tuck, lift and squeeze, your legs will be shaking... and the shake is good. As I looked around, I saw people with the expression of someone who was about to give birth. It's torture in tiny doses, and it's a test of ultimate control and discipline. I usually enjoy working out (unless it's running), but I kept glancing at the clock during class, hoping that it would magically be over soon. So: you probably don't want to come here if you want to lose a lot of weight quickly. You do want to come here if you want to sculpt your bod and/or you enjoy a challenging, low-impact workout where you will emerge after class still looking as pretty as you did coming in, ready for brunch. I probably would not have tried it if it wasn't for fitmob (they're pricey!), but now I'm intrigued and will give it a few more tries to see the result. read more

First off, just want to say that I love Pure Barre! I've been going to classes since late November last year, and though I don't go as often as I would like due to my busy travel schedule for work, I can tell the difference the barre has made in my strength and overall physique. Luckily, Pure Barre offers a lot of classes every day at all their studios, so I can squeeze in at least two classes a week! I normally go to the U Village location, but decided to try out the new Green Lake studio today since it's closer to where I live. The check-in, locker use, and equipment prep was all seamless and what I was used to at the U Village location, so no surprises there. An added plus is that there are two bathrooms located right next to the lockers, whereas at U Village, the bathrooms are shared with the rest of the businesses in the building, so you have to go out of the studio and back in through another building entrance to get to it. The class itself was just as sweat-inducing and active as expected, and Katie (the instructor) was awesome with motivating the class to keep up the motions and going around the room to correct our forms. As always, the music tempo was always a good tempo to whatever variation we were doing, and the mirrors around the room were helpful to check how I was adhering to form. One slight downside of the Green Lake location is that parking isn't validated, though there is plenty of it in the underground parking garage. But as other reviewers mentioned, PCC (which shares the same parking garage and does validate for 90 minutes) does validate, so I was able to pop into PCC after barre and grab a couple of grocery items I needed anyway. Most classes at Pure Barre are an hour, so that should give you plenty of time to gather your things after class, get something small at PCC, have the cashier validate your parking, get your car, and exit the garage. Great first time at the Green Lake location; will definitely be back! read more

Okay - I just have to update this review say that Pure Barre is a total game changer! After taking classes for almost a year, Pure Barre has become a part of who I am. Those 55 minutes are the best part of my day, and the community of women and instructors are AMAZING. I have never felt more welcomed, challenged and inspired in my entire life - and this coming from a girl who danced competitively for the first 21 years of her life! It's unreal! And just to sweeten the pot, I've gone down two pant sizes since August 2014 as an added bonus for spending so much time at this place! To Sami and crew - you are doing it RIGHT! I generally frequent the Queen Anne location, but came here yesterday morning as my parents were moving into an apartment on Green Lake. I was really impressed with the studio - very clean, organized, and welcoming. Just what I've come to expect from a Pure Barre class! As with any of these, the class was pretty hard, but that's the point of doing barre, isn't it? My instructor was Amy, and she was super helpful with offering hands-on adjustments and keeping the class upbeat & challenging. I'm looking forward to coming back here! read more

I was going to Pure Barre in Massachusetts before I moved and was thrilled to learn there was a studio so close to my new place! I attended my first class today and was not disappointed. The studio is brand new and very clean. Front desk worker Margo was really nice and showed me how to use the lockers. Retail selection seems standard for a Pure Barre studio. The studio itself is light and spacious. My class was with Maria and she was great, really motivating and helped correct form with all the students in class. This was more than I remember with my classes in MA and was a welcome change. The workout is challenging and intelligent and leaves you exhausted! Other reviewers have gone into more detail about the workouts themselves but suffice it to say they are more effective for toning than anything else I've done. I am so glad I tried Pure Barre. I love it. I tried a class on a whim, by myself, and now have been going consistently for two weeks. I have never done a dance class or yoga or anything before, but I felt the moves were easy to pick up and the instructors explain and demonstrate them clearly. The best part is the music! It is very upbeat and makes the hour go by really fast. All of the instructors have been consistently friendly, welcoming, and warm. I always look forward to going to the class and it makes working out seem like less of a chore. I feel like I get a good workout in and am getting stronger. Definitely worth the money. read more

I was initially skeptical on Barre. I thought - this is a work out for girls who don't want to sweat...well Pure Barre Green Lake proved me wrong. The facilities are clean and the staff welcoming. More importantly, I shake and sweat every work out. I leave feeling that great kind of sore. I'm hooked.
