We chose Compass Self Storage for convenience in location and for what was - at the time - a reasonable price. The price I signed on was $90/month for an outdoor unit. It's a sizable unit, and there is a coded front gate, bright lights at night, and cameras throughout the complex in addition to the personal locks on the units. Nothing out of the ordinary. We've had the unit for just under 3 years now, and the price has been increasing over time. I've never been given notice of a price increase - the bill just keeps going up. It's been creeping up over time. I'm now paying $128 for the same unit. Unfortunately, we are not currently located in the area to just take our business elsewhere. All we can do is complain to people who don't care to listen. A while back, I called up and asked management if we could move my scheduled payment date. It's a pretty simple, standard request. I was willing to pay prorated extra to cover the shift, or even a small "administration fee". Nope. I was told "that's the date in the computer." Apparently, all those magical ones and zeros are immutably etched in stone. Except, you know, for the price. But we haven't even gotten to the worst complaint. A few months ago, I received an urgent call from the management. Our unit had been broken into. They asked us to pop on over to check to see if anything had been taken. Sorry, we're 5 states away, and can't exactly do that. We sent one of our friends with a list of things to look for. In the meantime, management told me that they would keep us apprised of any new information. Of course, they didn't. I had to call and ask for an update. It seems that someone had broken in (remember, gates, cameras, lights at night) and started breaking into random units. From the reports from other units, only electronics had been taken. Thankfully, we hadn't had any electronics in our unit, but management would provide us with the police report if we needed to file an insurance claim. Since we were not local and unable to come put a new lock on the unit, management provided a new lock. Our friend confirmed everything that we had asked her to look for was still there. In the end, nothing was lost by us except for confidence. Management's apology or way of making up for everything? A new lock free of charge. No free rent even for that month, no rate freeze, not even a real sincere apology. We're moving back soon, and I can't wait to get out of this rip-off of a place. Update: we've now moved back to Orlando. When our unit was broken into last year, Don the manager provided us with a free lock that he explained was the only kind they suggested because they couldn't be cut off. I went into the office to pick up the key for this supposed super-lock, mentioning that my unit was one of the ones that had been broken into. "Oh, that just happened." "Uh. No? It was like 6 months ago. Wait. Did it happen again?" "Oh, yours wasn't broken into again, but we had another break in. They caught the guy though, and he's sitting in jail." "Well, that's good. I guess." So, multiple break-ins in the past year. Awesome. Do you feel safe with your stuff here? Don couldn't find the key for the lock. "What kind of lock was it?" "I don't know. You put it on. I've never seen it." So what he did was give me another new lock. This means that he had to remove the old lock - which he did with a power tool in about a minute. So much for their super-lock. The lock he replaced the old super-lock with was just another super-lock that supposedly couldn't be cut. So glad that we're out of that place. read more

I recently relocated from New Jersey to Orlando and needed temporary storage for my belongings. I researched several local self-storage facilities and was very impressed with the customer service provided to me by Leo. He was thorough, professional, friendly, and responded to all my questions. We communicated weekly via email until my move to Orlando a week ago. When the movers, my family, and I arrived at the facility, everything had been prepared for us in advance although I had not even done the paper work! I met the General Manager, Roni, and she was equally fantastic. I observed Roni assisting another customer, down on her knees re-inflating the tires of a customer's U-HAUL, while he watched. Nothing was lacking and they made my family and me feel as if we were family! Unexpectedly sold my home to a cash buyer and had to vacate more quickly than planned. I found Compass online and they had a first month free move in special which I could not pass up. On my initial call they advised they rented U Hauls so I reserved the biggest truck. I was pleasantly supprised when I arrived at the storage facility on my moving day. The building was new and modern and friendly manager quickly rented me their largest space AND honored the first month free promotion they promised when I called. I wanted to write a review because I had such a pleasant experience with Compass. They were really helpfull and made my move easier! Thank you Compass!! read more

I under the review that Kathleen B gave on 08/08/14. I went in and she was all but helpful and gave us a great price and we asked 100 questions and yes was what she said. No problem, that can be done, No problem, it not going to an issue. Well, that late night , i came in to bring in some of belongings, and as i approached my unit, water was coming from the side wall into the front of the unit. I had no choice but to put my stuff in and of course it was like 9pm and they were closed. So the next morning I arrived an spoke to the supervisor. He immediately went into I cant help you mode. Now this is why. My friend put her name on the storage and put me as an authorize person. The supervisor, told me that it does not mean anything but that i can go in and out but not change anything on the contract. Which upset me because we asked in detail, can i come later in the year and changed the room to a smaller room.. and of course with a beautiful smile, Yes, you can. He told me that she had to be present now and sign give a written notice that i full access and authority to change anything in the contract. I explain to him that she was not in the area and can he talk to her on the phone and he said NO. Well, i called her and of course, as i was talking to her he tells me that to have her call him. She did. His story claims that i was irate and would not listen to him and that she can fax a letter to him. Then i came with her , he received it, he went with us to check it out unit and could see that there were water stains on the floor. He walked us to another unit, and that had a crack on the floor bigger than and earthquake in California. Look like a sinkhole crack. Well then he walked us to another place and it had a small door entrance. Then another one was the one. Now, he was supposed to forward the info of change to their headquarters. Just got the new statement and it shows us the original unit.. So i called, the main office and they tell me that we are listed as the original unit and have no info as to the new change. Well, i told them i would wait till they take care of the issues. So , i will report my next chapter to you before i make my payment. read more

The ol' bait and switch- first they contracted us for a set amount and then after a couple of months they notified us of a significant monthly rate change. We decided to get rid of our unit and the day before our month was up, they called and said we had to take the lock off (a day EARLY), which doesn't seem like a big deal, but when you arrange to unload your unit on a Saturday and now have to have your stuff out on a Friday with less than 24 hours notice, it's BS!!!!!!!!!!!
