My Beverly Hills coffee adventures took me to Comoncy - a small little café serving fast-casual breakfast & lunch fare prepared with local, organic ingredients. They also have a nice selection of pastries. Seating is limited, so plan to get your order to go. The lovely barista greeted me when I arrived. She happily explained some of the drink options and mentioned that they use ethically sourced organic coffee & tea. I decided to try the Cubano - a strong, sweet coffee made with dark-roasted espresso and a unique foam called espumita, which is created by whipping the first drops of coffee with brown sugar. The first sip was a delightful surprise. I could taste the rich, deep flavor of the beans. It was bold but not bitter. Slightly sweet and creamy but not watered down. It's also made with 4 shots of espresso, so I was buzzing around the office all day. Brain fog be gone! LOL! Comoncy's Cubano might just be my new go-to coffee drink. read more

My Mom had a recurring appointment for the last couple of years (every few months or so) across the street, so at anytime I chauffeur her, I make it a point to try a new spot on this block while waiting for her to get done. That said, I believe this spot is the last on my "to try" list. She wanted nothing more than a soup, so she went for the coconut red lentil (which came with a piece of bread) and and iced matcha latte. They were generous with the amount of salmon and the topped onion served as a palate cleanser of sort while adding texture and flavor. If there was a reason to come back here, it's for this! ICED CHAGA MATCHA: I'm a fan of an iced matcha latte - doesn't matter where from, it's my go-to. However, this is the first time I've seen it as a "supercharged mushroom" version. I was far too curious, so I went for it. It still had that familiar matcha taste, but with added depth in flavor. (I have to apologize, it's a bit difficult to explain.) It's a small but popular coffee shop in Beverly Hills. Two small outdoor tables are located outside, a few small tables inside and a wall counter with a few stools. They usually get busy during the morning and lunch time rush and rightfully so. Their Iced chai latte taste like horchata with the perfect amount of sweet. The chicken panini with bacon is my go to for lunch, perfect crisp with a generous amount of avocado spread between each bite served with a small side salad. Their prosciutto sandwich is also great on the run, you can ask them to warm it up and it's the perfect bite to go. I've probably had most of their desserts and although it changes every few months, they are all tasty. The best part is of course the staff. All of them are kind, always with a smile, and helpful even on the busiest of days. Taurino, Luis, Fernando, Felix & Tatiana do an incredible job running the coffee shop. There weren't a lot of people present, and initially I found it a bit odd that when my latte came out there was no mention made of a pending breakfast sandwich. 10 minutes past, then 20 with no activity in the kitchen. Finally, I went up and asked on the status of my sandwich. Blank stares and then the realization of the error. 5 minutes later, at 9:50, I had my sandwich, now to go, and I had to wolf it down while driving to my meeting. No Star. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? $13.00 got me a small breakfast sandwich and a side salad, which is, just as an example, nearly twice what you'll pay for a breakfast sandwich at Eggslut. That's unnecessarily high plain and simple. No Star. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? I didn't hate this breakfast sandwich, but at the same time it was nothing special. You had an egg, some thick cut bacon, and some cheese on toasted multi grain bread. Good, not great. Single Star. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Even had I not had the service hiccup this would have been a mediocre sandwich, but with the hiccup in play this was, unfortunately, one of those relatively uncommon one star visits.
