    Steak sandwich
    Adam S.

Wow! Their new location inside the terminal building is awesome. They have a full bar, coffee, breakfast and lunch things. I was starving and ordered their steak sandwich made to order! The streak was probably more done than I'd like, but it was way more tender than I expected for a to go sandwich. 10/10 crew plus new lunch options

Got couple of coffees here while we were waiting to board the Seattle ferry. The staff were friendly and polite and the coffees tasted great. They have some sandwiches too. A small local place to get a quick cup of coffee while waiting for the ferry.

We got to the ferry a little early and had time to grab a warm drink before we drove on to the ferry. The nice barista was very friendly and helped us with our choices. I decided on the London Fog. She gave me options on the drink and chatted with us while she prepared them. All 4 drinks were great and just the right temperature. Great place to grab a warm drink while you wait for the ferry.

Tasty breakfast sandwich, nice cup of coffee. I got something with caramel, I don't remember exactly, but I liked it. I'm not super picky with coffee but still, this place seemed pretty solid. Nice brioche bun. If I wanted breakfast before catching the ferry and knew I had time for it, I'd definitely consider giving this place another visit.

Commuter Comforts' location, while key to their success, interferes with the recognition they deserve. Truth of the matter is they serve commuters and they serve us well. But, most of the time we are in a rush or otherwise occupied by getting to our destination. So, our gratitude is often a quick thank you and we are often well on our way before we realize how could the beverage or snack we just got really is. For example, their relatively new Anjou breakfast sandwich. Holy Cow! This is the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had and you simply won't find it anywhere else. They obviously worked hard to create a unique taste treat. Simple enough, it's bacon, egg, cheese, bread and a mildly spicy sauce. Wow! I haven't had a chance to research the details. But, I will follow up soon with more details. In the mean time, if you like a little kick with your morning coffee, give this a try! Many other reviewers have commented on the exceptional quality of their coffee. I think it's also worthy to note that they open at 4:00 am on week days and always seem to be in good spirits! They really do deserve our gratitude and maybe a little awe!

My quiche had undersalted eggs, strange-tasting cheese, and a crust that ate as if it were microwaved. And my brother didn't finish his mocha - which is just so rare for him - and he described it as Swiss Miss. On top of that, we waited a good 20 minutes for our disappointing food and drinks. The struggling sole person working the bar, the oven, and the register really needed a coworker. It was a typical cafe vibe inside. Plenty of warm (and cold) drinks, and a reasonable breakfast and lunch menu. You order at the counter, but they will bring it to your table. Cons: I ordered a sandwich--the turkey BLT--which was okay, but just okay. On non-descript wheat bread, bagged lettuce (which was a little wilty), and a round of processed turkey. Bacon seemed reasonably freshly cooked, however. Upshot: nice place to hang, especially with a warm beverage in hand. I would go again just for that, and likely will. As for lunch--which, granted, I only tried one of their sandwiches--there are much better sandwich options on the Island.

HI LIFE is an exception, and will be a go-to going forward. The Poke sho-ka-do box is a great option for open minded first-timers. It's a huge amount of food, easily satisfying two and giving you a nice sense of the variety of fish and marinades on offer. Note that it's a fixed set, so you'll likely end up with some marinades/fish you prefer over others. The mayo-base poke wasn't my jam, but that's personal preference. One note, it'd be nice if the box included rice. it's available for $3 extra, which feels trivial. As for dining environs, it's located in a refurbished service station. There's limited indoor seating by the service counter, but most tables are under the overhang where gas pumps would have once been. I'd go at a slightly off-time if possible to ensure you get a seat! The staff were also super kind and helpful. We were originally about to order three boxes, but they actually recommended sticking with two, saying it would be enough and they were completely right. We were stuffed. Each bento box comes with a variety of poke styles (9) you can mix and try, which made the whole experience even better. Every single one we tried was fresh, flavorful, and really well-prepared. I'm from Seattle, but this is absolutely worth the ferry ride to Hi Life. I'll definitely be coming back.

In…read morefact, it's almost a given that when I encounter a tasty pie or pastry at a friend's house on Bainbridge, when I ask, it's almost a given that it came from Blackbird. They're expensive, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies to Blackbird. You may pay more than you might somewhere else, but their quality is exceptional. Today I stopped by for one of their quiches--their spinach and goat cheese--and a lemon blueberry scone. Both were super yummy. I often get one of their chais too, which are also quite tasty (and not at all dry, a common problem with scones). Having Blackbird downtown makes it quite convenient to just stop by while on the way to elsewhere. But sometimes it can be a destination if...you can find seating, which is at a premium most of the day.

I figured it was due to taking it for granted... ...I was mistaken. Day one of our trip we ordered several items and none of them were very good at all. We ended up giving items away and thought maybe the bakery was just having an off day. The staff seemed bothered by having to take our order but hey- we all have tough days! Well...day two of our trip we decide to prioritize stopping by again. After a local saw us waiting 30 minutes for our toast and jam she told us to go ask and that "sometimes the staff can get really overwhelmed ". So my daughter stood in line a second time and was told that the employee heard we wanted it to go so it had been sitting at the end of the counter the whole time. We specified we wanted to eat it inside. We asked kindly if they could fix the mistake and we were happy to wait. To my genuine surprise the employee with the pink hair opened the bag of toast, plopped our three orders on trays along with the plastic to go tiny jams and dropped them on our table with the most dismissive uncaring attitude I've seen. You could get more care at a convenient store. We thought we'd try to eat them anyway and the pieces were cold and hard. I asked her about them and her response was "well you asked for to go". Not only does she seem incapable of doing her job basics but as an employer I'm shocked she is granted the simple tasks of serving toast in the first place. She made sure to put plenty of energy into gossiping with her co worker about her irritation with us. We have strong ties on the island still and come back often but we will gladly skip the visit here in the future. I certainly hope these staff members get some basic skills in customer service for their own future.
