We came to take a peek because my mom is a huge fan of chocolates. They had some samples that we were interested in trying, there were 3 of us but oddly, the lady behind the counter only offered my mom samples and when we asked if we could try, she said that was all she had.....it was noon on a Friday. But we were like, ok that's fine. My mom did end up buying a good amount of chocolate to support local but honestly the service fell short and she didn't seem to know much about the products or chocolate at all. I don't know if I'd come back.

Due to an unexpected delay with our ferry, we arrived at the L'Atelier a mere eleven minutes prior to closing time but the door was locked. Fortunately,we were let in by the person sweeping up. I only ordered chocolates this time, but I've previously had the cookies they offer and they aren't good. Along with their breakfast offerings they're not bad, but they lack flavor. However, this time i only got a dozen of chocolates, and it was quite underwhelming. Three of them I can say were spot on with what they said; Earl Gray, dark sea salt, and the bacon one are my favorites. The other ones did not taste as described wasn't bad, but it was lacking.

Oh my goodness, what an absolutely amazing store to come across coming into Bainbridge from the ferry! Super easy to find and get too, though there is a small flight of stairs to get inside for anyone who has trouble. Beautiful little store with lots of excellent chocolate options that are produced in house. There was only one person working at the time we went in there but she was super helpful with any questions we were able to get exactly what we wanted.

Fancy chocolates from expect chocolatiers located on Bainbridge Island in a small business area next to a gallery, restaurant and tree farm. Who knew chocolate could be so fancy! We are all being fooled to think that Hershey is chocolate. The prices are not cheap, but what you get is perfection in a box! You can hand pick your favorites or let the experts pick for you. A definite treat!

liege waffle w/ lemon curd & "french toast"? topping

Second time visiting, still a little disappointing. As typical for Bainbridge restaurants, it just feels like you're paying a lot for what you get. My breakfast waffle (scrambled eggs w/ bacon) was cold. Not room temperature but almost like, ice cold on the bottom, maybe from being left on a cold metal counter too long or something. Scramble itself wasn't bad, nice texture, nice crispy bacon bits... their harissa ketchup was a cool idea but I would've preferred there to be less, it was a little overpowering. Their Liege waffle is definitely the highlight of the menu here - the sugar-studded batter is noticeable, kinda fun, pretty tasty (and was actually hot.) The basic toppings ranged from "ok" to "mediocre" - the "french toast" topping pretty much just tasted like confectioner's sugar, the compotes/lemon curd were fine but not memorable. As for their other confections, the sea salt caramel was a miss - one friend was vehemently put off by the flavor and everyone else in my party who tried it wasn't impressed. The strawberry macaron tasted a little saccharine and artificial; it seems like with such a tight menu and (relatively) simple flavors they should be hitting it out of the park and we just weren't seeing it. I feel a little bad giving it 2* since the people behind the counter seemed nice enough but a cold breakfast waffle is pretty hard to get over. YMMV but after 2 equally unimpressive and costly visits it'd be hard for me to recommend, personally.

This Yelp post was for my 6/8/18 visit to L'Atelier TR - an amazing find on Bainbridge Island. I did not know what to expect, but with a spontaneous day trip and an open mind, good (and tasty) things are bound to happen. It is a gem with limited seating with a captivating pastry case adjacent to an amazing production kitchen. Both Chefs Tamas and Tae clearly have the culinary backgrounds to cultivate such accolades I read earlier from Yelp, including from local resident and avid Yelper, George S. The vibe in their retail shop and café definitely was all about cultivating a welcoming, neighborly atmosphere. I enjoyed my conversation with Chef Tae specifically who took the time to share anecdotes and information about items I inquired about. I ended up ordering a Reuben waffle and a coffee confection a top pate a choux (cream puff). Reubens aren't usually my go to, but this was simply delicious and served promptly by Chef Tamas. The pastry was on point, not cloying, and a perfect end to my lunch. George S. took the time out and surprised me while I was dining at L'Atelier. Yelpers are truly part of a mighty fine tribe! I also bought four exquisitely crafted ginger caramels which Chef Tae kindly packaged up. I have been enjoying this for the past few days. Beautiful shiny presentation and luscious ganache of perfection. Being there made me truly happy and reminded me of how much I enjoyed aspects of pastry school, training in Paris and Aurillac, and working in the industry as an assistant pastry chef another lifetime ago. This is an amazing find and worth seeking out - highly recommended! Worth beyond five Yelp stars. Get on the ferry and make it a highlight of a day trip...remember they are only open Fridays - Sundays 0800-1700. Thanks again Chefs and credit to George S. for writing a compelling Yelp review to convince me to explore beyond Winslow and detour off of 305. **Departing from the Seattle to Bainbridge Island ferry via car** Continue on 305 and go past Winslow, turn left on Madison Ave N, you'll see the BI Fire Station, turn right on NE New Brooklyn Rd, then turn right on Three Tree Ln NE, you'll be on a brief stretch of gravel road with tiny adjacent pine trees, go straight until you see a large art sculpture for a gallery, veer left and park. Business is located at unit #7.

Waffles? One of each please!

The waffles are awesome! Freshly made when you order, they are light and delicate. I especially enjoy the savory ones. Their pastries and chocolates are beautiful and delicious. They are open Friday through Sunday, so take a relaxing ride on the ferry or a nice scenic drive to Bainbridge Island and treat yourself to something special.

Wonderful gem on Bainbridge! Get yourself a savory waffle and baked treats and gorgeous candy. Nom nom! Chef Tae is talented and friendly. So lovely!

A waffle with every entrée, amazing chocolates and pastries and very close to Eagle Harbor Winery!

Chef Tamas Ronyai is Bainbridge Island's newest culinary phenom. He and his associate,Tae Tran, appeared on the scene a few months back and are likely to remain the talk of the town for months ahead. Tamas is a classically trained Chef who has won awards all over Europe and the United States. The restaurant is only open three days a week, Friday through Sunday. Their entrees are simple: waffles. Light and fluffy and not too sweet, a waffle is the base of every plate. But, that's just the start. After that, it's just one difficult decision after another. Sweet or savory? A savory waffle? Oh my, yes! In fact, I haven't even started sampling the sweet waffles, yet. Hint, Tamas and Tae are both chocolatiers. So, they know their sweets. But, that's for another day... Of their savory waffles, I've tried their goulash, a seafood medley, cheesy waffle with tomato soup, croq monsieur, country gravy, and the Reuben. Each one of them merits their own review. Feel free to message me with questions. For now, I'm going to touch on the gravy and dive into the Reuben. Among the best sausage gravies I've ever had, this traditional roux based cream gravy was topped with bits of crispy bacon and chopped greens. The smooth, rich texture established itself and let the bacon and greens extend the note. A little on the heavy side for the waffle. But, a rock solid breakfast just the same. It's worth mentioning all their entrees come in at @ $10.00. Tamas prefers to mix up his menu every week. But, the Reuben is so popular, it makes frequent appearances. This dish is layered and, at first glance, looks like an open faced cheese sandwich on a waffle. The magic is in the layers and the care used in their construction. They cure their own corned beef before shaving it and layering it over a fresh made waffle. Then, comes a mild home made Kraut topped with the house Russian dressing. All of this is topped by a final layer of Gruyere cheese. When I eat at this place, I find myself taking smaller bites to extend the length of the meal. It's that good.

Absolutely adore this place. I will go out of my way to taste some of their deliciousness. You can't go wrong with any of the waffle selections - sweet or savory. Their online ordering and curbside pick-up make it so easy to jump in a car and satisfy my craving. I always regret not picking up an extra waffle for later.

Blackbird Bakery - Apple and caramel monkey bread (June 2024)

Over the past couple of years, I've had all manner of cakes, pastries and pies from Blackbird. In…read morefact, it's almost a given that when I encounter a tasty pie or pastry at a friend's house on Bainbridge, when I ask, it's almost a given that it came from Blackbird. They're expensive, but the old adage "you get what you pay for" definitely applies to Blackbird. You may pay more than you might somewhere else, but their quality is exceptional. Today I stopped by for one of their quiches--their spinach and goat cheese--and a lemon blueberry scone. Both were super yummy. I often get one of their chais too, which are also quite tasty (and not at all dry, a common problem with scones). Having Blackbird downtown makes it quite convenient to just stop by while on the way to elsewhere. But sometimes it can be a destination if...you can find seating, which is at a premium most of the day.

After being a BI resident and then moving away I was so excited to make time to stop by Blackbird…read more I had told several friends on the island that I was looking forward to stopping by the bakery and I was surprised to find they had lost their love for it. I figured it was due to taking it for granted... ...I was mistaken. Day one of our trip we ordered several items and none of them were very good at all. We ended up giving items away and thought maybe the bakery was just having an off day. The staff seemed bothered by having to take our order but hey- we all have tough days! Well...day two of our trip we decide to prioritize stopping by again. After a local saw us waiting 30 minutes for our toast and jam she told us to go ask and that "sometimes the staff can get really overwhelmed ". So my daughter stood in line a second time and was told that the employee heard we wanted it to go so it had been sitting at the end of the counter the whole time. We specified we wanted to eat it inside. We asked kindly if they could fix the mistake and we were happy to wait. To my genuine surprise the employee with the pink hair opened the bag of toast, plopped our three orders on trays along with the plastic to go tiny jams and dropped them on our table with the most dismissive uncaring attitude I've seen. You could get more care at a convenient store. We thought we'd try to eat them anyway and the pieces were cold and hard. I asked her about them and her response was "well you asked for to go". Not only does she seem incapable of doing her job basics but as an employer I'm shocked she is granted the simple tasks of serving toast in the first place. She made sure to put plenty of energy into gossiping with her co worker about her irritation with us. We have strong ties on the island still and come back often but we will gladly skip the visit here in the future. I certainly hope these staff members get some basic skills in customer service for their own future.

The bakery is located in the heart of Poulsbo, a charming Scandinavian-style town. There's usually a line, but we've been lucky during our visits and haven't had to wait too long. We've tried several of their danishes and bundoughs, which were good, though some are bit on the sweeter side. Overall, we enjoyed our visits and the experience. The staff is friendly and welcoming. Keeping an open mind that they offer a larger variety of pastries and goods I didn't try but my visit felt just average. While not overly impressed, I can appreciate a solid spot with fresh donuts and pastries managing high traffic. Line tends to be long but moves at a moderate speed, as the employees are open to chatting. Large Butterhorn - excessively sweet to a point where I felt sick of sugar because it's also pretty big. I personally would rather eat a fluffy donut because this felt more like a condensed block of sugar, but seems to be a favorite for others. Might just not be for me. Swedish Almond Pastry - while this was also super sweet, the almond flavor was able to pop out at times. Sliced almonds on top helped sprinkle some extra flavor but were ultimately consumed by the sweetness. A little flakier in texture which helped dissociate with the dense sugar block.
