I was excited to come back again to see if my standards are the same from 15 years ago when it comes to these delicious pastries. And I was still foodie happy let's just say. - Ham and cheese croissant is a must. Sorry no photo as I was too hungry to take a pic before eating it. - Prices are still reasonable for this level of quality - there wasn't a long wait Labor Day weekend when I went. Line went by quickly - free sparkling water on tap! Love it! If I'm ever in the Seattle area, I will stop by again for some pastries. If you wait too late in the day, the popular items go quickly.

I've been on an absolute tear with scoping in on the best pizzas in Seattle, and it came as no…read moresurprise to me that one of my top spots is primarily a French bakery. Alexandra's may be known for slinging out beautiful Macarons, but you all know I'm only here for the beautiful pies that they ONLY make on Thursdays. The pizza professionals here are certified chillers. They made me want to open up my own bakery, but there's no way that I could be as cool as them (or bake good food). We pulled up to take our pizzas to go, and we were frozen in place after the viewing the strikingly gorgeous cakes on display. It was destiny telling us that we indeed needed dessert that night, so we decided to order one of both. Little did we know that they were about to give us the largest slices of cake we've ever seen - they lasted 3 nights! But let me tell you about the pizzas. Both of these were out of this world, and so creative. French onion soup on a pizza? That is genius. They're taking the best elements of the dish, but making it into pizza instead of soup. Who wouldn't want that? And then they had a summer special with a white sauce, squash and ricotta. A wonderfully light pizza, but with HEAVY flavor. Everyone always told me growing up that the crust is the best part of pizza. I never understood that, it just seemed like a strange lie that was perpetuated by Big Bread. But Alexandra's has made me a believer in Crust Nation. The bake on this pie is one of the best I've EVER had anywhere. I actually wanted more crust after I was done. Now I want pizza every Thursday!

The lemon one was fantastic with new types of filling. The apricot one was yummy as well. The watermelon was surprisingly not as good as we had hoped, it tasted a bit like watermelon candy. The oatmeal cookie was delicious albeit a touch more cinnamon than I prefer. The espresso fudge was amazing. Such a great treat if you're in the area!

They have so many yummy options, but I settled on a mushroom and Gruyère pastry and an earl grey blueberry cruffin. The mushroom and Gruyère pastry was SO good!!! Buttery flaky layers of dough with a strong earthy mushroom flavor and savory cheese - an absolute umami bomb. We ate it the day after and threw it in the air fryer for a couple of minutes, and it was so delicious. The cruffin was huge! Topped with a delicious light Earl grey cream that wasn't too sweet. It was filled with a blueberry cream and was definitely very filling. There's a lot of sugar coating it, as is standard with cruffins, but it's a nice sweet treat. Definitely coming back for the mushroom and Gruyère pastry and to try their other delicious flavors. Their supreme croissant flavor switches often and we can't wait to try the next one! They offered the item on both days this weekend and again I missed it on Saturday. I asked the front person what time I should get to the bakery in order not to miss it, and she recommended that I come in right at the opening. She said they ran out of it some time past 11am on Saturday, so it seems like they don't necessarily go flying off the counter immediately. Although I was curious, I still wasn't sure if I'd make it in time for opening at 8am the next day. But I was housesitting nearby and the dog woke me up at 6:30 begging to go on a walk. Not wanting to waste the fact that I woke up early on a Sunday, I decided to not go back to bed but head to the bakery at 8am. I arrived like 2-3 minutes before opening and was surprised to see there were already more than ten people lined up at the bakery. Having worked a retail job, my coworkers and I get annoyed when people start lining up before opening, so I tried my best to arrive right on time. But the line was a bit much. Anyways, I respect that everyone working at the bakery doesn't seem one bit offended by the crowd and are so nice to the customers. Consequently, I'm glad I went for the Maritozzi. It was really good. But if it's this difficult to get one then I probably won't go for it again.
