    Christmas cake.

A beloved island bakery and I see why. It's charming, inviting, and provides a variety of traditional and more experimental bakery delights. The staff is always kind. I really like the freshly baked wheat loaf, the chocolate mousse, and their soups. I especially enjoyed the spicy peanut stew earlier this year. The quiche, with its beautifully smooth custard and well-seasoned spinach, is excellent. The cakes are beautiful, I love admiring them. They are very expensive, as is turning bread into toast, which adds a significant up charge. I also love their charming array of cookies for each holiday.

So happy I chose this bakery for my first visit to the island because it was everything I thought it would be, comfy, small window into the idyllic island slice of life, and their thick slice toast WAS indeed delightfully delicious and I got to enjoy it at their cute bay window spot looking out on a perfectly sunny day. With a cup of refreshing iced latte. That was actually good espresso and well made. I love fishing and they had the cutest, most intricate trout sugar cookies that day. Yes I attempted to bring it back in one piece and it kinda survived. I really wished I got one of their store memorabilia shirts or something! The servers were all super nice and friendly despite clearly the crazy morning rush and long line of tourists (myself included).

A cute bakery to enjoy a sweet or savory treat (or few) with a delicious hot chocolate or coffee. Stopped in with a group of 4 while being tourists on Bainbridge Island and had a lovely experience ordering and enjoying our treats. A crowd favorite is the Walla Walla roll and we can all see why. A few things to keep in mind - there can be a line but all staff work hard to keep things moving. The space is on the smaller side so things can feel a little tight between the seating and ordering line. Overall enjoyed our experience and recommend checking them out!

Small comfy beverage and dessert place right in the heart of Winslow street. The customer service is great. Got the eggnog chai latte and the americano. Plus the highly rated french roll and the green onion savory scone. Everything was true to perfection. I would definitely be going again!

We took the ferry today to see Bainbridge. We walked to see the Troll "Pia the Peacemaker" then walked back into town and found Blackbird Bakery. I ordered my usual oat milk latte with 4 shots. And we ordered an oatmeal cookie and a slice of vegan chocolate applesauce cake. I wanted to purchase a loaf of their oatmeal whole wheat bread, but the person ahead of me bought the last loaf! One of the lovely things about this place is their art collection of watercolors by an artist who studies birds. They were fantastic. We try to find vegan options... the oatmeal was not vegan but usually it is pretty healthy. This cookie had a lot of sugar taste... too sweet for us. The chocolate cake was moist and just sweet enough! Not my favorite latte but I think it was just not my favorite expresso taste (this is subject to personal preference). There is a smoothness I've come to enjoy and so I look for it when traveling as compared to my local coffee shop in South Carolina.

Visiting downtown Bainbridge for the day and as the rain really started to come down, I had the craving for a good chai latte. It was closer to closing time so there wasn't a lot of pastry options left, which is a good sign. Their menu has traditional coffee and tea options and I went with their Spicy Ginger chai latte. I was hesitant about the ginger but it tasted so good. Cute shop, no thrills. The staff were really pleasant. I'd come back at an earlier time to check out the bakery options!

Cute little bakery, mostly cookies left after 2. Quick service and very organized. The prices seemed a little high, $10 for 3 cookies. But they were cute

Banana Walnut Bread and Ginger Tea Latte

I found this cute bakery in the downtown area of Bainbridge Island. The sweet aroma of pastries fills your nose as you walk in and the people working there are so warm and friendly. I immediately eyed the giant cinnamon roll ($6) the size of my head and knew I wanted it immediately. I took my first bite and it was unfortunately super dry. I typically like a moist cinnamon roll with the delicious cinnamon filling inside, but this was not it. The bread was just dry with a hint of cinnamon flavor. The icing saved the dish in my opinion. The sweet delicious flavors were just perfect. My boyfriend ordered a banana walnut slice ($5.10), which was super delicious and the perfect amount of sweetness, and a 8oz ginger chai latte ($5.05), which he thoroughly enjoyed. They have plenty of other delicious baked goods in this place, but I would recommend skipping the cinnamon roll.

    Strawberry rhubarb pie

Came here after so many recommendations and it definitely lived up to the hype! The strawberry rhubarb pie was perfectly sweet and tart, I just wish the slice was larger for $6.30. My latte was delicious and was perfectly sweet, not too much syrup or ice. Service was great as well, the lady taking my order was very kind with helping me pick a bakery item since it was my first time.

Orange Roll with cranberry sauce inside was divine. So soft and perfect for sweet tooths. Cappuccino was unfortunately bitter. No issues with service. There's a few spots for seating so you're more likely to order to-go.

    Toast, jam and tea.

I have been going to Blackbird Bakery for years, and I am always happy. I usually get tea and toast with jam and sit at the counter looking out and people watching. The toast is thick and buttered just right, the jam tastes homemade, the tea selection is great, and the staff are helpful. An awesome atmosphere any time of year.

HI LIFE is an exception, and will be a go-to going forward. The Poke sho-ka-do box is a great option for open minded first-timers. It's a huge amount of food, easily satisfying two and giving you a nice sense of the variety of fish and marinades on offer. Note that it's a fixed set, so you'll likely end up with some marinades/fish you prefer over others. The mayo-base poke wasn't my jam, but that's personal preference. One note, it'd be nice if the box included rice. it's available for $3 extra, which feels trivial. As for dining environs, it's located in a refurbished service station. There's limited indoor seating by the service counter, but most tables are under the overhang where gas pumps would have once been. I'd go at a slightly off-time if possible to ensure you get a seat! We were stuffed. Each bento box comes with a variety of poke styles (9) you can mix and try, which made the whole experience even better. IF you're lucky, catch a bite when the hot side (grill) is open as EVERYTHING is magical - but my hubby swears by Jake's breakfast pesto aioli sammy. Hubs was so addicted that he would swing by EVERY SATURDAY MORNING AFTER BASKETBALL to indulge in this sammy masterpiece. It became his beloved Saturday ritual! We got the spinach and ricotta ravioli with the mushroom sauce, spaghetti with marinara and an artichoke/mushroom/ olives pizza. It was terrific. I was eyeing the cannoli and a friendly lady in the line told me it was a must try. So I did. It was crunchy, not too sweet, nutty from the pistachio and sweet from the chocolate. Unfortunately we were very hungry so we demolished the food within minutes-- so no pictures. The storefront was very cute. What an absolute hidden treasure…read more Discovered Via Rosa 11 while exploring Bainbridge Island on the advice of a friend. NOW I get why she recommended it! This place is absolutely delicious in every way! Driving past, you might miss it entirely. The exterior is almost secretive (perhaps that's what they're going for). But once inside, you step into a small Italian market filled with authentic staples. You'll find imported pastas, olive oils, sparkling sodas, cured meats, olives, etc. Equal parts neighborhood pizzeria and Italian market. The owners themselves came out and greeted our table, which immediately impressed me and set the tone. This place is truly family-run. A husband and wife from Hawaii and Italy who have created something similar to the movie "Nonna". Then there's the wood-burning oven that sits glowing in the kitchen, the kind that makes that perfect blister and char. We ordered the Burrata y Speck pizza ($23). San Marzano tomatoes, whole burrata, cherry tomatoes, basil, speck, and Parmigiano. It was outstanding! The crust is PERFECTLY crisp! Funny note* Look how they shaped the pizza as a heart for us on their own....how cute! We also tried the Bruschetta, which was equally excellent. For drinks, we shared a bottle of blood orange sparkling wine, which might have been the most refreshing thing I've had all day. A couple of things worth noting: - First, like most small Italian eateries, dining here is communal as space is limited. You might get your own table, or you might end up dining along fellow pizza lovers. Roll the dice and enjoy the experience. - Second, if you order something to go at the counter, remember to pick it up before leaving. I ordered the cannoli ahead of time to take with me, and completely forgot to take them with me on the way out. My fault. My only real suggestion for Via Rosa (should they need more business) is to lean into the curb appeal a bit more. This place deserves to be discovered IMO, but right now it's so subtle from the road that many people will drive right past without even realizing what they are missing. Which would be a shame because if you stop, you'll find a tiny slice of Italy tucked away on Bainbridge Island! Will ABSOLUTELY be back. 5 stars.
