Potatoes

I only come here one time a year now and it is after the Christmas parade on the first weekend of December! It is now a tradition for my mom and I to come eat here! We love it because it's so small, quaint, and packed the day of- it's just cozy. Of course it is downtown so be careful, there was a man harassing me and even followed me and my mom into the restaurant, but once we were in he left. There aren't many vegan items so I got the potatoes and dirty chai, which was perfect for me. Don't forget parking, you do have to pay for parking in downtown, so just keep that in mind. We will keep our tradition next year and the year after. Just stay safe when walking around downtown. Mine was an isolated event, but also happens a lot so just be aware of your surroundings.

Known for their bright blue tile exterior and interior, I was excited to try their coffee after everyone raved about it! I ordered a simple iced americano with oat milk, and their coconut oatmeal. The americano was delicious, and while the oatmeal was a bit on the sweet side, I still enjoyed it.

So good! First time here and wanted to try out couple items. I got the double scoop gelato ($6.90), seasonal danish ($5), and a large iced blue lavender matcha ($6.75). Danish was very flavorful and delicious. The matcha drink was good, but a bit too sweet and matcha flavor was very light. Gelato was good as well! Interior is very elegant and beautiful. There was one staff working in the front. He made the drinks, got the gelato for me, and working the cashier. The only downside is that the business hours are short. I'm here in Dallas for two weeks for work, and by the time I get back to the hotel, this place is closed.

Egg Sandwich, Avocado Toast Super just okay food that is quite pricey. Perhaps it tastes better in store but this was pretty disappointing and not worth the price!

Awesome little place for a quick snack or meal. This was recommended by my sister that works in Downtown. She's a huge fan! I came at 1pm Saturday and traffic was killer with a lot of construction. The oasis they create inside the store is so calming though! Everything was pleasant to look at and comfy chairs! I wanted something for a light brunch and got an egg and cheese bagel sandwich and butterscotch latte. The latte was unique and creamy, if you enjoy a sweeter latte it's perfect with a foam top! The sandwich was soft and fresh and the eggs were perfectly scrambled and once again- FRESH! Perfect basic bagel sandwich for a person looking for something classic. The service was nice, the girl at the counter asked all the customary questions and was very pleasant. They even allowed me to sample their gelato that was from an Argentinian company. A bit sweet for me but was super creamy. I loved the open kitchen view though. All the staff in the back hard at work making delicious fresh food. They emphasized catering a lot so I can't imagine how much they produce in a day. Thanks for your hard work guys!

Great location in downtown Dallas. This place has European cafe vibes. The store is very clean and well laid out. They have tons of options to choose from from breakfast to lunch to pastries and custom drinks and juices. I got a coffee cake Diet Coke and juice and it was about $13. I would recommend this location

Whipped Ricotta Toast - brioche, house ricotta, seasonal house jam, citrus zest, mint

We had a breakfast burrito, breakfast croissant and we also tried the breakfast tacos which were all excellent! The whipped ricotta toast was excellent. I highly recommend the pistachio lattes. Very nice space and very quick service. The staff was also delightful.

We were the first customers to arrive and had never been here before, though we've often seen it busy. The food came out in about 10 minutes and was very good. The burrito was a bit too spicy for my taste, but the Croque Madame was hearty and plentiful. One small downside: the only salt and pepper available were the tiny packets included with the disposable utensil pack. I would've preferred real shakers or larger packets. Also, the $6 small orange juice bottle felt overpriced. That said, we ate at 7 a.m. and I was still full at 1 p.m. Glad we gave it a try and would definitely come back.

Stopped here for breakfast before heading out of town while staying in Dallas. We had breakfast, and I ordered a breakfast burrito- which comes with a couple different breakfast meats, eggs, and sauce. In addition, we shared an order of breakfast potatoes. The burrito was very good, a nice layering of flavors inside with the sauce as a added spice and the eggs serving as the glue keeping everything together. I think the burrito is a solid choice - and it's a non-messy handheld for consumption. I would say the breakfast potatoes however, were the real winner and blew my mind. Served in a large paper box, these small potatoes were salted and seasoned, and after their temperature dropped from the surface of the sun, these were great. You absolutely get your money's worth with those and they are shareable! Also added a vanilla iced latte - which was good Staff was friendly and service was quick!

I've been going here for many years. It is THE BEST breakfast/lunch cafe downtown and honestly one of the best in Dallas. The bread is made in house and made in the European style. The meats are butchered downstairs and sourced from local farms and also aged in house. The steak fries are my favorite I've ever had in my whole life. The avocado toast is also the only avocado toast I will buy because it's so good. I try to replicate it at home because it is bar non, the best avocado toast. They also have a small retail type section where you can buy rotisserie chicken made in house and wine and very good quality ingredients like tomato sauces and other canned foods... their coffee is fantastic and the best part, it's not over priced, you can get $15 - $20 meal and it's hearty and filling and healthier than other options. OMG! I almost forgot the Croque Madame! It's literally soooooo good! And the Cinnamon roll has plenty of flavor and filling AND it's soft and gooey, not hard and dry. They make the cutest patisserie and the gelato is fantastic as well! Don't sleep on the Commissary. It's AMAZING!

Came for the aesthetic blue interior. Bagel was surprisingly so yummy!!! Everyone enjoyed what they had.

Been coming here the last few months and it's been a fantastic spot to grab some breakfast and coffee. Great service and you should definitely try the breakfast tacos (the bacon ones are the best). Also coffee is great! Good music and great location in downtown Dallas.

Somehow Commissary flies under the radar with the best breakfast burrito I've had in Dallas. Honestly 11/10.

Do they still have the meatball sandwich or the meatball & ricotta plate on weekends for brunch?

I was wondering where their coffee beans are from?

I went to visit their original location on Northwest Hwy. conveniently located right next to the Dallas Police Northwest Division. Fun fact: did you know that they have a roastery next to their original location? How amazing! However, that one is by appointment only, so check with them for more details. Shoutout to the White Rock Coffee staff for welcoming us back with open arms, as well as introducing new drinks to us that were of high demand and interest. One, however, that really did catch my eye, was my all time-favorite: the White Rocker, which included two shots of espresso, whole milk, and their signature White Rock syrup. My friend on the other hand, got the Lone Star Latte -- chai with a hint of that White Rock syrup that they put in there as well! Because of their roastery, all of their coffee beans are sourced from local partners and cooked and roasted right here in the heart of Dallas. I'm just really glad that I was able to really catch up with the times that there are, honestly. I'll definitely be back to visit more whenever I'm in the DFW! Y'all have my support! :)

I went on Tuesday and was a little disappointed. I got a tea and sat downstairs but immediately I was FREEZING. I decided to go upstairs because I thought maybe a vent was blowing directly at me, but no!!! It was seriously so cold everywhere. A girl next to me was rubbing her hands together and blew into them just to keep warm. I mean, really? It was kind of funny how crazy cold it was. I expected to be there at least 3 or 4 hours since I had a lot to do but I left after 30 minutes. I wanted to go outside to sit down at one of their tables but not a table was in sight! Please note that parking in this area is particularly difficult but if you come in the morning, it should be easier to find. Another thing worth nothing is that they are more of a quick standing coffee bar type of place and I definitely wouldn't recommend it for families or kids, so keep that in mind when visiting. Now to the food... They have a small but mighty menu for breakfast and lunch. For my first time I decided to try their The Monte Duro, which is a pastry style "hot pocket" with smoked prosciutto, mortadella, mustard and jam. For drink I decided to go with their Dirty Chai Latte. The drink was absolutely perfection and exactly what I needed in a warm Texas morning. First of all, the Bishop Arts District itself is incredibly charming. Block after block of unique shops ranging from bookstores and bakeries to candle shops, candy stores, coffee spots, and little boutiques. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood I loveeeee exploring while traveling and if I lived in Dallas, I'd probably frequent this area often. As for The Wild Detectives, the concept alone immediately appealed to me...bookstore meets cafe meets bar meets restaurant. That combination will pretty much always grab my attention. I love to read, I love to eat. The space has a pretty relaxed, community oriented vibe, and during my Saturday morning/early afternoon visit, there were plenty of people working, reading, chatting, and hanging out both inside and on the patio. My one slight disappointment was that the bookstore side itself was smaller than I expected and didn't have quite as extensive a selection as I had imagined. That said, I still managed to leave with a few great additions for my ever growing TBR pile. Overall, this was a worthwhile stop and one I may revisit the next time I'm in Dallas.
