Commander Moving is hands down one of the best moving companies I have worked with. Their office team [Ruth and Magali] were extremely helpful in figuring out my complex move and preparing insurance coverage paperwork in a short amount of time. My move went from a "storage unit to apartment" to "storage unit to condo to apartment". They were there every step of the way to ensure my needs were met. Carlos and his team (Doragh & Juan) of movers were phenomenal. They gave me a 20 min eta and were on time to the first stop. Going over the paperwork, Carlos was very meticulous in making sure I knew the estimated cost and why. The crew was careful and fast with my storage unit move out, which took just over an hour. For part 2 of the move, the three person team quickly and thoroughly wrapped blankets and plastic. They broke down the bed and couch and transported a fragile mirror with quite a bit of patience. By the time they got to part 3 of the move, they took a well-deserved break and proceeded to unload. They were very careful with everything and extremely considerate in asking where stuff should be placed. She brings a positive energy to every single call and works hard to make sure you are informed and satisfied. We haven't moved in 10 years, but it was time to stop renting a 700 sq foot apartment and get a little more space -- especially now that we're both working from home all the time. Quick and simple review. Not giving this company my energy. 1st and last time I'll ever use a service to pack n move me. The woman who scheduled the visit was great. Super nice and put me at ease about something that's pretty darn stressful. She said we got it, grab a latte and let us do all the heavy lifting. Well, when the folks commander contracted to move me arrived I was already unsettled. I let him know I had a few areas that needed to be packed up, which the woman assured me they could do no problem. Well he was not happy. "We weren't aware of this" he said. "We need advance notice" he iterated. Then proceeded to tell me he didn't have enough boxes and I would need to go buy 20 boxes and 20lbs of packing paper. Okay, I said. I showed them around and explained what's going and what's being thrown away. When I mentioned the removal of the tv's and the mounts he almost lost it. "Oh no, we don't do that, it's going to be extra" he says. I told him the woman who set this up told me specifically that you could remove them. He then agreed, reluctantly. As I'm leaving Home Depot with 20 boxes and enough packing paper to move all of Martha Stewart's Kitchens, the guy calls me and asks me where I'm at. Told him I'm leaving and heading back. Then asked if he still needed the boxes. "Oh no, I found some in my truck" ummm, so what am I doing? "We can use the packing paper". Beyond annoyed at this point. I return the boxes and head back. They used one large box to "pack" my closet. Essentially they just threw everything in there and put it on my bed in my new location. As they were unloading he made a number of comments about tipping them. "100 each would be nice" he says. Then tells me that if I don't want to be charged extra I needed to empty the hanging boxes with my dress shirts and jackets. Um... okay. Finally they're gone. Fast forward to the next day. I'm emptying boxes. One with my piggie bank (just a glass jar) with random currency and a few loose 20's. The 20's were missing. Move onto another box that had my closet stuff in it. Specifically a supreme zippo I had in its box on top of Supreme / Benchmade Bugout knife. The zippo was there but the knife was missing. Went through the rest of the boxes and never found the loose bills or knife. When I contacted the company and explained everything they only offered a $250 refund on a $1600 move after I threatened to put a stop on my check. Then told me that I would find my knife once I unpack everything. Well, I'm fully unpacked and still no $380 knife. Never again. ‍ my fault for being to trusting. read more

Avoid at all costs if you like to work with trustworthy and professional people. This company's movers were careless and damaged several of my most valuable pieces of furniture (cb2 bed frame and book shelf, west elm console, vintage chairs) with gauges and severe scratches. All of the damage is super visible. They did not wrap, prep, or secure furniture properly for a move from Oakland to LA, and one of the movers was really struggling and banging furniture around. The owner, Karel, cashed my check for thousands of dollars and has not been responsive or attempted to make this right. It feels like I got scammed, and it was a little scary to address the damage alone with the moving guys, one of whom was very surly and snapped at me. They documented the damage in the moving agreement, but I've had zero luck holding them accountable. Really wishing I had taken more time to find and read through all of the negative reviews that are buried in here before trusting everything I own with people who clearly do not care about their customers at all. read more

Wow wow wow. I am so happy we hired commander moving for our recent move from Oakland to Walnut Creek. I am 8.5 months pregnant and literally cannot be more grateful for the support that Ruth and her team provided. From the start, they were responsive and empathetic towards our situation - Ruth was so sweet and concerned about me doing too much while so late in my pregnancy. Our timeline was up in the air pending when some work in the house was getting complete and if the baby would arrive early. Mike was able to come do a quote for us immediately and schedule a good day for the move. We had to push back our move date by a week which worried me but Ruth was so understanding and worked her magic to be able to fit us in on a different day. We ended up going with the pack and move which was more expensive due to the the hours needed to pack but it was well worth it. I don't think I'll ever move without a pack and move again! We split the pack and move into two days which was no extra cost. On the first day Mike came with two other guys, Alberto and Efren. They were professional, speedy, and friendly and were able to pack most of our things within 3 hours! They were also great about checking in with us around what we may have needed to keep unpacked for the last night we would be staying at our place. The next day, they Alberto, Efren, and Alex came to disassemble the big pieces of furniture and pack the rest of our things. They worked through lunch and were hustling! When finally arriving to our new home, they unloaded everything and put together all our large furniture pieces - even helped a little with ideas on where to place things! Overall, the move took about 11-12 hours over two days. Since my husband had to work, it was mainly just me working with with them and they were all so sweet in making sure I was low stress and resting while pregnant. I didn't have to lift a finger! We used Commander for a move-out last spring, storage all year, and a return move this week, and we have nothing but praise for the entire team. Adam, Albert, and Alex helmed our move-out crew, and we found them to be friendly, fast, and professional. They packed and moved most of our things, which was a huge relief--we had started the process but found it was taking us FOREVER, then these guys did it lickety split, which was a logistical boon and psychic relief. They carefully wrapped expensive furnishings, toted a piano down 7 (wooden) front steps, and loaded a house's worth of boxes--and we're big readers, so that meant a LOT of heavy books! Adam even sent me photos of the packed storage crates so I could see that these were packed efficiently and with care, meaning they used the minimum number of storage crates, thus holding down our storage costs. We were glad to see Albert's and Alex's familiar faces on our return move, joined by Efrain and Alfredo. All were again professional and friendly. How they carried those massive loads up various flights of stairs is beyond me--super-human strength was on full display. I should also mention that Jerry was so lovely to work with on logistics via the phone. We had to reschedule our return move at least 3 times (it's true that construction projects run longer than anticipated!), and he was always friendly and accommodating. While I hope we NEVER have to move again, we would use Commander in a heartbeat, and I will happily recommend them to friends (one friend already used them last week at our recommendation). Do not use this moving company. They gave me a quote for $2,500 to pack a mostly-packed house and drive it to a storage unit 1.5 miles away, but then charged us $5,000 once they got it onto their truck. We gave them an accurate description of what needed to be done, along with photos of the rooms/items they would need to pack. Their movers also drank several of my roommate's Modelo tall cans and left them in my bathroom cabinets. They also had the nerve to ask you for a tip. I got the "I have 3 little girls at home, it would be really great for them if you could help us out with a tip." I thought the tip was the extra $2,500 I was charged. read more

The team worked efficiently and with positive attitudes. As a single female they were not intimidating and very respectful - not the experience I've had with different companies on previous moves. TLDR: Commander Moving is the best moving company I've ever used. They moved a 3-bedroom with formal dining room and living room third floor flat from San Francisco to Berkeley in four and a half hours--including drive time across the Bay Bridge, a break, and lunch--without breaking or scratching any of our belongings. Last month (December right before Christmas), Commander Moving moved us from San Francisco across the bay to Berkeley. No one I know likes moving; you're going from comfort and established routines into the unknown. But as an aficionado of supply chains and process optimization, I had to say I was in awe and riveted as I observed our team from Commander Moving. Let me paint a picture for you. Like many living in San Francisco our 100+ year old building had narrow landings and no elevator. Our unit, which we affectionately called The Nest, was at the top of three flights of stairs with five narrow landings. (None of the crews who've delivered appliances have ever been able to navigate these stairs.) A few days before our move a member of the Commander Moving team came over to our place and walked through our building and unit with me. He maintained a social distance when we chatted outside and without being asked masked up for the inside tour. A few hours later he sent us a detailed proposal with a not-to-exceed estimate. My husband and I reviewed and compared the pricing with what we'd paid to a different moving company in 2015. Adjusting for higher gas prices and a larger team the quote was actually reasonable (we had sticker shock when we first saw the quote). We said yes and marked 9:00AM on our calendar. I then read through all their tips and tricks on how to make a move go smoothly. Something they did that was super helpful is they sent a link to a third-party organization that handled parking permits. Having had to navigate permits for moving at SFMTA in 2015, I was excited not to need to spend hours doing this. At exactly 9:00AM on our move date two Commander Moving trucks pulled up. Everyone on the six person crew masked up and followed me as I oriented the team foreman on what was going and what was staying. Here's where my appreciation for process optimization started. The team didn't waste any steps. As we continued on our walk through, team members peeled off and boxes and furniture started disappearing from our patio, storage unit, and hallway. By the time I'd finished talking with the foreman our storage unit had been emptied and packed on the truck. The crew split into teams--one group stacking boxes and ferrying them down the stairs and the other group wrapping furniture to protect it from scratches. I was in awe of how they navigated the narrow stairs effortlessly with no one having to pause to wait for someone to pass. I still don't know how they timed who was coming down the steps and who was going up the stairs so perfectly. It was a delight to behold and felt more like a sped up video than live action. Based on the team who'd moved us into The Nest (not Commander Moving), I'd assumed we'd be closing the door to any empty apartment at about noon. At noon, our Commander Moving team was already in Berkeley with a quarter of our belongings unpacked. One might assume that based on their speed furniture got scratched or boxes were just deposited randomly. Neither happened. Our Commander Moving crew stacked all boxes in the right rooms (we'd clearly labeled and color coded the boxes to help with this as we've done with all our moves, but Commander Moving's team was the first in all my moves to pay attention to the box labeling.) Even more astonishing was the discovery that nothing broke or got scratched. (We had some boxes where glass and ceramic had been packed with no foam or bubble wrap. Had anyone other than Commander Moving handled our move we'd have opened these boxes to broken glass.) After having Commander Moving move us I'll never use another moving company. Our six person team finished much faster than their 8 hour estimate (which was what our move in 2015 took), practiced COVID protocols, and treated our belongings with great care. read more

My wife and I recently sold our house in the Bay Area and bought a house in San Diego to be closer to our kids. We didn't have any idea who to use as a moving company, but our realtor recommended Commander. It turned out to be a great recommendation. We had a fairly complicated need to move part of our possessions to one house and the rest to another house. The team at Commander brought two trucks to our house early in the morning on moving day, separated everything out as needed, and made the long drive from Northern California to Southern California the same day. Owner Karel and team leaders Mike and Frankie were friendly, fast, responsive, and super competent. Along with their guys, they were like the Seal Team Six of movers -- they got in, got out, and got the job done with supreme efficiency. Believe me, both of those trucks were packed, and a lot of it was heavy stuff. Their rates were fair and reasonable. To cap it all off -- and I see this as a mark of their honesty and trustworthiness -- they ultimately charged us a little less than they had originally estimated. Updating my review to say that YET AGAIN COMMANDER SAVED MY HIDE!! I was stuck in a real jam thanks to a former tenant not getting their large pieces of property off the site after they moved out and I had 48 hours until my new tenant was due to move in - it had to get out now! The problem is I also had some things I couldn't fit in my car and had to be put in personal storage AND a load that had to go to the dump. I called junk removers and most couldn't fit me in on short notice or they would only do one of the three tasks I needed done. In a last ditch effort to pull this off, I called Commander back and all I heard was was Ruth saying "No problem hon, what time do you need us tomorrow?" I was ready to cry. Music to my ears. The guys (Adam, Efrain, Manuel, and Hirvin) showed up exactly on time like they have the other 2 times I booked and made short work of all the bulky, heavy, weird things that I needed figured out. Some things that I didn't know how they'd move, they did, it was a testament to their resourcefulness! The day was long for everyone but the work was done and done right. As a result of damage to our house caused by an Atmospheric River in march of this year [2023], we needed to move and store a lot of our furniture. Having had a less than exemplary experience with a moving company that we used to move into the house in 2022, we wanted to find a trustworthy moving company. This was our first time hiring movers instead of moving ourselves and we were very excited. Unfortunately the experience was pretty awful other than their customer service. I want to keep this short so I'll just bullet point some of the issues we had with commander: - we hired them for two days of work, one day of packing and one day of moving. they went way over time and over quote. we ended up paying $1000 more than they initially quoted us. they arrived at 8:30am and worked until 10pm when we finally asked them to leave on the second day. - we felt bad that they had been working so long, so we told them that they were good to go. this came back to bite us when we found nearly a foot long scratch on the front of our tv that they apparently blamed on us because they didn't do a walk through at the end of the move even though they hadn't finished the work. i saved up a very long time to get my dream tv and now it has nearly a foot long scratch on it. - they left nearly two car loads of things that we still had to move ourselves including some very heavy items - they took so long that it interfered with the cleaners we hired to do our move out cleaning and they couldn't do their job so we lost out on a significant amount of our deposit - they for some reason kept several of our items and i had to meet one of their employees like a month later at his apartment across the city to pick them up - several small irreplaceable items are just missing, like proprietary pieces of hardware to lamps and beds - we were left with so much packing material that we're still dealing with it several months later I know that they worked hard for us, and again they were all super nice and other people have great reviews of them. Unfortunately that was not our experience. Likely will never hire movers again. We moved ourselves across country several times and it was less stressful and we incurred less damage/costs than we did with commander. :( read more

Really incredible experience with Commander Moving now a second time! There is a solid attention to detail and to getting the job done well while communicating what is going to happen. In my case there was an issue with one of my pieces getting damaged (it happens!) and they were right on top of it fixing the piece and getting it back to me in better condition than pre-move. I love these guys. They have moved my workshop TWICE and basically, it's as close to Star Trek shit as you can get. The crew shows up, sparkles and twinkly sounds occur, and the cargo disappears from the old location, only to re-materialize in the destination. WELL OK so it doesn't quite work like that, but it IS the next best thing. They wrap the stuff for me, load it in the truck, unload, I don't have to do a damn thing and frankly, I get plenty worn out on my own job as is. Besides, if I tried to move the shop all by myself, I'd have to rent a truck for a few weeks, gas it up, hire help etc. by the time it's all said and done, I havent' saved any money and i've taken a month to do what these guys do in a day. Never gonna beat that for the value proposition. Just save yourself the time and aggrivation and hire these guys alright? read more

A good friend recommended Commander Moving to me so I included them as one of 3 companies I contacted for bids on packing and moving me from San Francisco to Northern Sonoma County. They were the company I chose, both because my friend has the highest standards when it comes to service and the estimate turned out to be the lowest. The team of Dominic, Efreim & Hiruing was amazing...they arrived on time and had my entire house packed and loaded on the truck in just 5-1/2 hours. They were polite, efficient and very careful with all of my belongings. When they arrived at my new home the following morning, everything was unloaded and in the proper room in 1-1/2 hours. They moved two extremely heavy dressers upstairs to the bedrooms and I was afraid they wouldn't make it because the stairway was too narrow for all 3, but they somehow managed and never complained. It was impressive (and a bit scary) to watch! The best news of all was that they came in at the low end of the estimate and I have an extra $1k to spend on home improvements!
