It's been a little while but with all the hoopla about the Mess, I tried one and I have to say that it did not disappoint. Huge portion, good quality pasta and ingredients, overall it was a good dish. I'm not sure if I'd rush to go back anytime soon, but it was certainly pretty tasty. read more

This was our first visit to Comella's in Wellesley as we heard the food was good. We called in our order at 7:05pm and we were told it would be ready at 7:30pm. When we arrived at 7:30pm they handed us our partial order and informed us they just put the pizza in the oven. The pizza was fair to poor. Soggy uncooked crust, flavor was bland, low quality ingredients. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

First I must say that the cashier was very nice, and acted as our pseudo waiter serving us water and offering to clean up after we were done. But now to the food, I'm not sure how much you can screw up pasta dishes, but I really enjoyed different pasta dishes we got (chicken parmesan and chicken broccoli alfredo) and the prices were cheap too! I also like how you can buy different portion sizes, definitely a good place to get dinner for the family. To end our meal we got tiramisu and a chocolate cannoli, which weren't that great, but how much can you expect from a pizza place? read more

I used to live near the Original Comella's in West Newton and was a regular partaker of the Swinging Sammy Williams mess (meatball and chicken parm over a great mixture of sauce, pasta, eggplant and other secret ingredients). The portions are big so two can share a single portion of the entrees which come in metal containers for easy reheating in the oven or toaster oven. The new location in Wellesley keeps up the tradition of preparing the "Mess" well and the parking is easier than in West Newton where Commella's has to compete with the movie theatre for street parking out front. I have never had anything but different types of the "Mess" but you can't go wrong with any of them. The garlic bread is just okay, wouldn't go out of my way for it. I think I have had salad which was decent but I usually bring it home and make a salad with store-bought lettuce. I now live in Natick and stop by the Wellesley location about every other week to get my Commella's fix. read more

A tiny restaurant with tasty food great service and exceptional pricing. Went there for lunch and had the eggplant parmesan and it was fabulous!!! Hubby had real veal parm and also fabulous. We dont live in area but highly recommend read more

No air conditioning on a hot humid summer day. No ice for the drinks on a hot humid day. Soda was luke warm. Prices are high for salads with chicken. Food is actually good. A small, dark, hot place to eat is not cutting it for Wellesley in the middle of July. read more

We had Comella's take-out while visiting friends. The food was very good. It's easy to order online and customize your dishes. The chicken Caesar salad and meatball sandwiches were yummy and reasonably priced. read more

Wish I'd found this place earlier--for some reason I thought it was just a caterer. It's small and most of their stuff is to-go, but there's seating. The signature dish is called a "mess", which they describe as "Italian goulash". I've only been once; I had a delicious sandwich. I'll certainly be back and I may even have to check out the original location. read more

Great Italian food, portions are huge and great options for vegetarians! Had the Grandmas mess and was disappointed when my stomach ran out of room to finish it! Felt like good homestyle cooking. Price was moderately expensive though. read more

Best Italian food in the area. Pick a mess, any mess and it will all be amazingly delicious. I am a big fan of chicken parm but I would gladly eat any of the messes. Also the garlic bread is to die for. I have also heard great things about their $5 homemade pizza. The sandwiches are also very very good. Anything that uses their homemade marinara sauce is sensational. There is some seating inside and outside but it's a little crowded and much more intended for take out. I promise you won't be disappointed by the quality of the food. read more

Descent Italian food, maybe too much prepared well in advance. Pleasant place to grab a bite!

Pelano's Mess. The one with extra eggplant. Freaking DELICIOUS. Love this place. Cheap, easy, filling Italian comfort food. What's better than that?!?! read more

Delicious! Small, very few tables, food on paper plates but delicious food!

I always liked their pizza, and the service was great too (I usually just order take out thought).

The food here is delicious, we enjoy the mess as well as their pizzas. The manager named Kimberly is very accommodating and welcoming. Will definitely come back here again. read more

nice place. They give a good amount of food and its tastes really good. Chicken parm is great.

Best steak bomb I have ever had and love the braided rolls with any sub. Pizza is great maybe better than old schools but both I prefer Comella's menu overall due to all the "mess" pasta dishes. read more

THE BEST! Our family has always loved this place: when it was in Wellesley 18 years ago, when it returned to its original spot in West Newton, and when it expanded back into Wellesley more recently. Mostly for takeout and their service is lightning fast. The marinara sauce is incredible, my kids are crazy about their infinite varieties of "mess," the meatball subs are a household staple, and I'm crazy about their homemade asparagus ravioli. In fact, all the homemade ravioli is wonderful - try the mushroom too - and keep a supply in your freezer. The only thing on the menu that could use improvement is the garlic bread - heavy and uninspired. We hear they're getting pizza soon, but I am not as excited about that. Wellesley has way too many pizza places, most of them mediocre (with the exception of Upper Crust). Kudos to the family that operates Comella's. read more

People rave about the pizza here but I've had mixed experiences. The main draw for this stop is the pasta dishes called "messes." Try one.

With a family of five going out to eat, this was a great spot. They don't have a huge inside sit-down area, so it's mostly take out, and there's a small park/garden across the road. They did bring us food to their small ours wide table, and the service was great with generally friendly staff. The food was absolutely delicious. I recommend the chicken parm. They definitely give you enough to fill you up! read more

I come here often, but I've never sat in. Every time, I've gotten the "mess" and it has always been excellent. Portions are very generous and the goulash is never exactly the same. I intend to try something new the next time I go there, which will be soon. read more

Yes, the portions are large and the food isn't expensive. But I absolutely dislike the flavor of their marinara sauce. Something about it is just really cloying. And they use that same sauce on everything. read more

There is really not much that's better than Comella's. It's consistently exceptional, and for out of town visitors, it's a must have!

Have been there a few times for some reason. If you like a ton of food then I guess it is okay, but I can cook a ton of food at home. The Mess is exactly that...a MESS. The person there was rude and I think he was the owner....not a good sign. I have tried on multiple occasions as others seem to like it....but it is just not that good, plain and simple. read more

The pepperoni pizza I ordered had minimal cheese and sauce and was very dry. I won't return.

I ordered the barbecue bone-in chicken wings $8.99 - and was shocked when there were just 6 wings - and rather small/non-meaty. Really? The pizza was good. First time I've been there, suffice to say it'll be my last. I did hear the 'mess' servings were generous and tasty. read more

Great mess with anything you can imagine thrown in. The $5 pizza is great for all the kids in the party. Comellas always delivers for the casual quick spontaneous dinners with large groups after a fun day at sports or pool read more

We've ordered for takeout several times. Pizza and sandwiches mostly. The chicken parm and the prosciutto sandwich are both yummy. Pizza is fine, but in our opinion nothing to write home about. We'll try the mess sometime soon. Not a lot of space to sit a big group but fine otherwise. Always worth calling ahead on the pizza to see how long their wait is that day. read more

Eggplant parm was good but turned off by the rude staff that told me they didn't have a public bathroom. Don't order the Greek salad. Iceberg lettuce and croutons out of a bag!. How can a public restaurant not have a public bathroom? read more

The sandwiches on the crusty rolls were outstanding. Five of us each ordered a different one and all were delicious! The pizza- while we didn't have any - looked great and what a great price! Would definitely come back! read more

Fantastic place. Great takeout if you are having guests. We get buckets of mess and save the leftovers, though they don't last long. Shrimp and veal are delicious and high quality. Meatballs and sausage are great. We have ordered from there about 15 times over the last few years and we are never disappointed. It's not gourmet food, but it is consistent and abundant. Need to get takeout there, otherwise sit amidst all the people waiting for food - very noisy and cramped. Since they started serving pizza they are busier than ever, though we haven't tried it yet, we heard it is good. read more

Comella's just can't be beat! What an incredible menu with unbelievable prices for the best "family" Italian food anywhere. We frequent the Wellesley location, but have been to others - and they're all just as good. Wonderful aternative for catering large, informal parties (especially teens & teams.) Have never had a bite of food we didn't love! read more

Best deal anywhere for a $5 pizza that is GOOD (not talking PapaGinos or Dominos chain stuff) We get pizza for the kids and any type of mess for the adults. Always leftovers to enjoy the following day. Also enjoy their ceaser salad. The place gets busy on weekend nights so call in your order with plenty of time read more

What a waste of money! I spent over $100 to get two tray of their `mess' dishes and boy, are they aptly named. You get a tray that is 97% pasta (maybe more) and literally have to go hunting to find any of the meat(s) that is presented as part of the various combinations they offer (the two I ordered were different from one another so it's not like I got a bad batch). I also got a large tray of Greek salad, in large part because one of my guests is gluten intolerant. The salad was FULL of croutons ...... in a Greek salad ...... WHO DOES THAT? If the store was not so far from my home I would have returned the entire ...... MESS!!! Save your money, buy some pasta and Ragu and thrown in a couple of chicken nuggets and you'll get the same thing for A LOT LESS MONEY!!! TWO THUMBS DOWN!!! read more

We are regulars... LOVE their eggplant, LOVE the BBQ chicken pizza.... Great sandwiches, too! Workers are always friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend! EDIT Sep 2017: Downgrading to 2 stars due to new management.... I was a long time customer and fan, but no more. Last time, I asked specifically for a pizza "slightly underdone" (because in the past, it was often overdone). My son picked up the pizza and we went home, we saw the pizza was way OVERdone, and the crust was dry and inedible around the edge. (Even the kids complained, and that takes a lot for them to complain about a pizza!) I called and said I'm a frequent customer -- the guy I spoke to said, yes I know, I see your son all the time. He was the one who actuallly took my order. So I explained about the pizza, and he said he didn't hear me say underdone. OK, fine. So when I complain, he gives me this "what do you want me to do about it attitude"... Finally he says, "OK well bring it back and we'll replace it." I said are you serious? You want me to bring back the half eaten pizza and drive back there in the pouring rain to get another? (This was the night of the terrential downpour). After a while, I realized that he couldn't care less about his loyal customers. God forbid he give me a refund, or say "So sorry, next time it's on the house"... So, for the cost of one pizza, you just lost a weekly family of 4 customer. There's PLENTY of other pizza places around... PS - I miss the old manager, Kim. She was awesome. Maybe you can take some customer service lessons from her. read more

Comella's serves outstanding, simple Italian style food at very good prices. If you are only seeking chee-chee FINE Italian cuisine with a nice chianti (with or without the fava beans), then Comella's is not for you - fancy restaurants are much too refined to serve excellent, 16" cheese pizzas for a mere $5.00. On the other hand, for those other reviewers complaining (oh so slightly) about the small size of typical Comella's establishment, the new one here in Belmont Center is as far as I know there new flagship eatery as it does have a substantial eat-in dining room area and a BAR!!!....yes, you can get a beer or even a chianti here at Comella's in Belmont read more
