First I must say that the cashier was very nice, and acted as our pseudo waiter serving us water and offering to clean up after we were done. But now to the food, I'm not sure how much you can screw up pasta dishes, but I really enjoyed different pasta dishes we got (chicken parmesan and chicken broccoli alfredo) and the prices were cheap too! I also like how you can buy different portion sizes, definitely a good place to get dinner for the family. To end our meal we got tiramisu and a chocolate cannoli, which weren't that great, but how much can you expect from a pizza place? read more

Wish I'd found this place earlier--for some reason I thought it was just a caterer. It's small and most of their stuff is to-go, but there's seating. The signature dish is called a "mess", which they describe as "Italian goulash". I've only been once; I had a delicious sandwich. I used to live near the Original Comella's in West Newton and was a regular partaker of the Swinging Sammy Williams mess (meatball and chicken parm over a great mixture of sauce, pasta, eggplant and other secret ingredients). The portions are big so two can share a single portion of the entrees which come in metal containers for easy reheating in the oven or toaster oven. The new location in Wellesley keeps up the tradition of preparing the "Mess" well and the parking is easier than in West Newton where Commella's has to compete with the movie theatre for street parking out front. I have never had anything but different types of the "Mess" but you can't go wrong with any of them. The garlic bread is just okay, wouldn't go out of my way for it. I think I have had salad which was decent but I usually bring it home and make a salad with store-bought lettuce. I now live in Natick and stop by the Wellesley location about every other week to get my Commella's fix. read more

Best Italian food in the area. Pick a mess, any mess and it will all be amazingly delicious. I am a big fan of chicken parm but I would gladly eat any of the messes. Also the garlic bread is to die for. I have also heard great things about their $5 homemade pizza. The sandwiches are also very very good. Anything that uses their homemade marinara sauce is sensational. There is some seating inside and outside but it's a little crowded and much more intended for take out. THE BEST! Our family has always loved this place: when it was in Wellesley 18 years ago, when it returned to its original spot in West Newton, and when it expanded back into Wellesley more recently. Mostly for takeout and their service is lightning fast. The marinara sauce is incredible, my kids are crazy about their infinite varieties of "mess," the meatball subs are a household staple, and I'm crazy about their homemade asparagus ravioli. In fact, all the homemade ravioli is wonderful - try the mushroom too - and keep a supply in your freezer. The only thing on the menu that could use improvement is the garlic bread - heavy and uninspired. We hear they're getting pizza soon, but I am not as excited about that. Wellesley has way too many pizza places, most of them mediocre (with the exception of Upper Crust). Kudos to the family that operates Comella's. read more

With a family of five going out to eat, this was a great spot. They don't have a huge inside sit-down area, so it's mostly take out, and there's a small park/garden across the road. They did bring us food to their small ours wide table, and the service was great with generally friendly staff. The food was absolutely delicious. I recommend the chicken parm. We've ordered for takeout several times. Pizza and sandwiches mostly. The chicken parm and the prosciutto sandwich are both yummy. Pizza is fine, but in our opinion nothing to write home about. Last time, I asked specifically for a pizza "slightly underdone" (because in the past, it was often overdone). My son picked up the pizza and we went home, we saw the pizza was way OVERdone, and the crust was dry and inedible around the edge. (Even the kids complained, and that takes a lot for them to complain about a pizza!) I called and said I'm a frequent customer -- the guy I spoke to said, yes I know, I see your son all the time. He was the one who actuallly took my order. So I explained about the pizza, and he said he didn't hear me say underdone. OK, fine. So when I complain, he gives me this "what do you want me to do about it attitude"... Finally he says, "OK well bring it back and we'll replace it." I said are you serious? You want me to bring back the half eaten pizza and drive back there in the pouring rain to get another? (This was the night of the terrential downpour). After a while, I realized that he couldn't care less about his loyal customers. God forbid he give me a refund, or say "So sorry, next time it's on the house"... So, for the cost of one pizza, you just lost a weekly family of 4 customer. There's PLENTY of other pizza places around... PS - I miss the old manager, Kim. She was awesome. Fantastic place. Great takeout if you are having guests. We get buckets of mess and save the leftovers, though they don't last long. Shrimp and veal are delicious and high quality. Meatballs and sausage are great. We have ordered from there about 15 times over the last few years and we are never disappointed. It's not gourmet food, but it is consistent and abundant. Need to get takeout there, otherwise sit amidst all the people waiting for food - very noisy and cramped. What a waste of money! I spent over $100 to get two tray of their `mess' dishes and boy, are they aptly named. You get a tray that is 97% pasta (maybe more) and literally have to go hunting to find any of the meat(s) that is presented as part of the various combinations they offer (the two I ordered were different from one another so it's not like I got a bad batch). I also got a large tray of Greek salad, in large part because one of my guests is gluten intolerant. The salad was FULL of croutons ...... in a Greek salad ...... WHO DOES THAT? If the store was not so far from my home I would have returned the entire ...... MESS!!!
