Normally I wouldn't mind paying $14 for a stellar salad, but the salad was of the lowest quality. It had been probably a decade since I had been to a Sweet Tomatoes, and I was excited to find this location as I was traveling through and needed lunch. It was early - 11:30am - and the place was empty, but the young guy behind the counter still had zero interest in smiling, being friendly, or serving my son and I. We wanted to share a pizza w/ half shrimp and half pesto. He refused, and said we needed to order two pies so it would cook "properly." Whatever, so we ordered way more food than necessary, and when the food arrived, the pies were terribly soggy and oily - I can only imagine how bad it would have been had they agreed to prepare it how we requested. Pizza was decent - not amazing, but I've had worse. I like that they offer a "kids style" sauce (not chunky). It was fairly expensive and I didn't think it was THAT much better than cheaper places. We got a large cheese (kids style), a large Fajita Chicken (good, but the jalapeños were like, puréed into the pizza) and a salad (small, but that wasn't a surprise) and it was almost $30... maybe that's not ultra expensive, but it seems like more than 2 pizzas and a salad should cost. the is review is for the Newton location. There is something seriously wrong with their delivery service. I ordered a pizza , charged it to my card, they added delivery fees and a tip for the driver. They told me it would take half an hour to 45 minutes to deliver. An hour later, no pizza. I looked out the window and saw the box had been left on the ground in front of the door in the rain. Some of the slices of pizza had popped out and was lying on the ground in the rain. No one rang my bell. No one called my phone. They took my number down at the time of delivery. I called the store to complain about the state of the delivery and they asked me if I wanted another pizza. There was no way I was trusting that delivery guy again. He might for all you know spit on the pizza and I wasn't taking the risk! I still haven't got my money back apparently they don't know to charge back on to the card! I would never get delivery from these people. You never know what the delivery guy might do. This is a great pizza. The flavor is fantastic, only reason it's not a straight 5 is because the middle gets soggy fairly quick. I made my own with sausage, green peppers and feta and would certainly recommend it. Sausage was wonderful and thin, peppers were perfectly cooked, still crunchy and the feta is crumbled up very small so it's evenly distributed. The crust is super thin and perfectly crispy with a really nice flavor. Sauce isn't sweet, which I really appreciate. If you are in the area, I don't think you can get a better pizza. read more

I ordered two large pizzas yesterday to bring to a friend's who was having people over to watch football, and who looks like a hero when they walk in with two enormous and delicious smelling pizzas? Yup? Pizza Hero right here! Buffalo Chicken was the first, and while I am generally not a fan of spicy pizza, I had tried it over the summer and was hooked. We also had a veggie for those not wanting to go spicy, but everyone wanted to go spicy first (I think I had 3 slices of each.... slices were cut small... really!). ST's was busy with people obviously calling in all at once because of the game, but the employees were efficient and my pizzas were actually ready before the time they said they would be. Yes, they are a little more expensive than your average Town House of Pizza, but this is good stuff, and waaaaaaaaay better than Stone Hearth, IMHO. read more

The Needham, MA location offered an open kitchen and a handful of tables and counter height seating at which to enjoy our chunky tomato margarita, and kid-style (ie, non-chunky sauce) cheese. They are known for their sauce, sweet tomato chunks. If u prefer traditional smoother consistency, order the kids' style sauce. Pizzeria Regina in Boston's North End is generally our high standard for judging pies, and we were pleasantly surprised to say the Sweet Tomatoes pizza was a contender. The chippy cashier could have used some customer service training, being more than a bit snobbish at questions and requests. But you can get your pie to go. The thin crust cannot be exaggerated, this was very much like the appetizer pizzas in Italy, where the pie is so light, it is considered an individual appetizer! We drove about an hour from home to try this pizza, which had been on our list for some time. Worth the trip, even as it is a bit on the pricey side. The Pizza is great, the people that work there have serious attitude issues. Oh and the pricing, don't be fooled by the online menu prices, for some items the price they charge you can vary by almost $5, it's happened to me at least 4 times, this last one the clerk said, "oh yeah, our prices changed, it takes a few weeks for the price to update online" Ummmm, it's actually pretty easy to update a website. I discovered this place just before leaving Needham forever and am sorry that I won't have the opportunity to order from there very much in the future. Delicious, BIG thin crust pizzas - 18 inches instead of the standard 16. (Remember: pizza surface area goes up by the radius squared, so we're talking about 25% more pizza for your dollar) Add to that pretty quick service and a dining room that's a notch above most pizzeria dining rooms if you choose to eat in, and we're looking at a top-notch pizzeria. Try the chicken fajita pizza with cheese (it doesn't have cheese by default, but they always tell you it's better with cheese and ask if you want to include it, which you should) and enjoy deliciously seasoned chicken coupled with the spice of jalapeños on thin but satisfying crust. Hopefully Sweet Tomatoes will find their way out of the 'burbs eventually - I think they'd be very competitive with lots of Boston/Cambridge/Somerville pizzerias. Bring it on! read more

I'm a firm believer in customer service. While the customer is NOT always right, the customer should be able to determine what they pay for on their pizza, no? Multiple times I have asked for a pizza with tomatoes and provolone and they refuse. They have tomatoes. They have pizza. Hey, they're both in their name! Well guess what, they also have provolone as it is featured on their sandwiches. Well I was told that it's "not a topping" My answer to this, as a trying-to-pay customer, is "well, I'm not a patron." While I do love the occasional traditional gooey cheese pizza, there really is no comparison with Sweet Tomatoes pizza. The food is excellent here. That being said, I feel the need to express my concern over the customer service. I concur with the fellow one star reviews in that customer service can define an establishment and Sweet Tomatoes Needham lacks this. We ordered a large pizza one night with two prosciutto sandwiches; picked it up, brought it home, and there was NO meat in the sandwiches, very little mozzarella, and very little of anything else. We paid $9 per sandwich, so obviously I needed to call back and drive all the way back to receive two new sandwiches. Once we got there, the two "accurate" sandwiches were already on the counter. Not only did the employees know they made a mistake, but they did not even bother to give us a call to inform us. No coupons or apologies were given in exchange. I would appreciate at least some acknowledgement or a discount for our troubles traveling back and forth a few times. Not worth my time for the food or the "service" here, which is basically laziness coming from the employees who constantly make mistakes on orders and who are rude to customers. Didn't expect to waste 35 mins driving back and forth and come home to cold pizza. I expect better service in the future and will continue to complain until the takeout orders are up to par. read more

They know how to do thin crust. It's crispy, chewy and tasty. That's what you should get here from my experience. Once in a while they take a slice out of the oven too soon (they should get a few timers for reheating single slices), but it's usually very tasty. I wouldn't get a salad again though--the lettuce I had last time was definitely past its prime. Past salads haven't been great either. I also did not love a sandwich I once had here; the bread was pretty mediocre. I wish they baked their own. Friday is pesto pizza day, one of their best creations (you can get it any day if you're getting a whole pie, but I order by the slice). read more

3 STARS 5 stars for the pizza. 1 star for in store service. 2 stars for call in service (after the terrible experience) So, I made a trip to the brand new Frank Pepe's at the Mall @ Chestnut Hill, after a concert last night and was devastated because there was a long wait and they weren't able to take any more people. On my drive home, I ended up stopping to get a pizza at Sweet Tomatoes. So I ordered which was fine. Even walking into the beautiful, spacious restaurant was fine. But, having planned on going to Pepe's (and a few other places in the mall), I brought a few hundred dollars, all one hundred dollar bills. So when paying for the pizza I had to pay with a $100 bill. The employee (Neill, according to my receipt), said they don't accept $100 bills and that is common in any pizza shop. He said he would accept it just this once, but he had to back to the safe, where he brought back change, still rude and upsetting to me. First of all, there is NO sign and second, (I waited to write this review until I made this phone call) I called the Newton Sweet Tomatoes (in the Center), who said they have no issue with it. Following I called the Needham location, who said they would also have no issue with it. Ok, great so why didn't the employee have an issue with it? I'm getting a call back from the manager of this place to straighten everything out. This is ridiculous. Why would I ever return if Newton will treat me SO much better. Until further info from the manager (who is supposed to call me back soon), it's a 3 star review. What ever happened to lovely, amazing Sweet Tomatoes. Still love the pizza and the modern, clean restaurant atmosphere , just not happy with the customer service. 1/4/16 : 5 STARS Manager of all of the locations was SO friendly, sorry about the 'annoying' experience (may I call it), and assured me that $100 bills are eligible for use. Today I got the prosciutto di Parma and the antipasto sandwiches, along with a Greek salad. I swore off pizza recently. My Ex was lactose intolerant, and I may have an allergy to wheat. I am weak, however, and do love pizza, so such recriminations should not be taken seriously I am a formerly from Needham, and I was surprised to see Sweet Tomatoes in the ole White Hen spot. Guess Needhamites no longer need convenience. They do seem to like pizza, as there is another pizza joint across the street I chose Sweet Toms, because I like the name better and I was on that side of the street. The pizza was darn good. We have used Sweet Tomatoes catering services for our office consistently throughout 2019 and have been beyond thrilled. We haven't had the same selection twice and I get rave reviews from the employees EVERY SINGLE TIME! Some of our favorite dishes include the flank steak, lime chicken, and herb roasted pulled chicken with sweet potatoes (just to name a few!). The meals always show up on time to the minute and the owners, Hedy & Brian and the entire staff are wonderful to work with! We just had the pleasure of serving an absolutely delicious and festive holiday lunch and as always our team expressed their gratitude so I wanted to share mine!
