Veggie Tacos

food is so delicious and they are incredibly fast in serving it to you! I think this is the best eggplant sandwich I have ever had. The ambiance is great for eating, reading, or working, and never seems too incredibly loud or packed. I also love the outdoor seating options.

Cortado

This was the most pleasant surprise during my trip to New York this go round. The ambiance is quaint and intimate. The staff was very patient and friendly. All that I could ask for as a first timer. I elected for a Cortado and the Pork Hash. My guest had the chorizo tacos with scrambled eggs and a maple latte. The flavors in both my hash and the chorizo tacos were phenomenal. I made a perfect bite of the hominy (in place of potato), pork, pickled jalapeno and onions, and poached egg. I'll be back to try a few more items from the menu. Job well done.

4.5/5| Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese | $12 4/5 | Iced Coffee | $4 Wow this was an amazing brunch spot in Brooklyn! Lots of baked goods, drinks, and brunch food items. I tried the tomato soup and grilled cheese, which were delicious. The tomato soup was rich and creamy, only complaint was that it was a bit too salty. The grilled cheese was delicious as well, can't go wrong with that combo! The iced coffee was well made, but a tiny bit watery for my taste. My friend got a latte, which was much better so would recommend getting their lattes instead! Loved the ambiance inside and service was fast.

Love this place! Got a grilled cheese and tomato soup combo on a rainy day. it was perfect! Place is busy on weekdays and weekends, free wifi and ample working space both inside and outside. Love it! Great neighborhood spot.

Very cute spot with really good coffee and service. Ecuadorian fried rice was delicious and hit the spot, the egg on top made the whole meal. Would strongly recommend, very well priced and good serving sizes. Not too many seats indoors but still worth a visit if you're in the mood for either coffee or good food.

Horchata! They have delicious horchata!

This place has horchata. Oh yeah coffee too but I come for the horchata. The service is friendly and the place is always pretty packed the few times I've gone.

Colina Cuervo is awesome. This place suits its purpose both as a stop-in coffee shop and sit down brunch place. Service is always friendly and though on the pricey side, the consumables are always fresh and delicious. I ordered obligatory avocado toast and it was just wonderful - not too salty, bread was seemingly baked fresh, and poached egg was cooked to perfection. Horchata latte is a MUST-TRY but I ordered a flat white (pictured). It tasted better than it looked which I thought would be impossible. Further, unlike cocoa grinder or other coffee shops on Nostrand, they guys open early and consistently. That means something for the neighborhood. Cannot recommend enough. I take people from lot of town here. 5/5.

Horchata Latte, Corn muffin with Dulce de Leche frosting
Robert Z.

This spot is the perfect balance of innovative, true to tradition, and committed to high quality products. I love the horchata iced latte and the corn muffin was next level - it had an amazing consistency and flavor balance that I would expect from somewhere much fussier and less inviting than this friendly shop. If you can only visit one coffee shop in crown heights, I put this at the top of the list :)

(9 out of 10) Also tried the empanada sampler which came with four empanadas of my choosing and tried the Beef, shrimp, chicken, and birria. (8 out of 10) I mean this sincerely... everything was beyond flavorful. The rotisserie garlic chicken had to be my favorite bite of the night but each empanada included in the sampler was crispy, tender, and decadent; each one leaving its own individual mark. Seriously blown away and might even had to stop in to try the food at the restaurant next time. Can't wait to see order from here again!

Food: This place is quite bad. We ordered the tortilla soup and the vegan tofu chimichurri. The tortilla soup was inedible it was so salty. The tofu was grilled and entirely burnt on the bottom. I had to slice the entire bottom off. The chimichurri sauce was flavorful. The yellow rice side seemed like bagged instant rice. The maduros were good. Did not try the alcohol but they had a large selection including non alcoholic options. The place adds a 20% auto gratuity fee. Kind of absurd on a 2 person check. I am Latina so perhaps I have a higher expectation for Latin food but I'm perplexed at how this place could have such high ratings, perhaps it was just a bad night. I would never go back and would not recommend.

We didn't have a reservation, but we went the day after a snow storm so it was pretty quiet. At first we were the only customers, but they slowly filled up during our meal. I would describe the inside as 'rustic cute'. It feels very cozy with the exposed brick, wooden tables, and soft lighting. For food we each did the Prix Fixe which lets you choose an appetizer, entree, and dessert. For appetizers we got the Chileatole and the Anticuchos. For entrees I got the Grass-Fed Skirt Steak and my boyfriend got the Pato en Mole Poblano. For dessert we both got the Bread Pudding. I thought the Prix Fixe was a good deal for the quantity and quality of food. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. Favorite bites were the Chileatole soup and the Skirt Steak. Our server was super friendly and approachable. Overall it was a really good experience and I would definitely return the next time I'm visiting the area.

The staff speaks to you in Spanish exclusively, which made me glad one of my boys is Honduran. The TVs all over the place are playing what appear to be Colombian music videos that were made in the 80s featuring old men and attractive young women. They've got buckets of Colombian beer and frosted mugs so cold that the beer turned to slush around the sides. They've got a platter called the Bandeja la Berraca that consists of rice, beans, steak, plantains, eggs, avocado salad, little corn cakes, blood sausage, other sausage (amazing), and a giant side of chicharron. We found Kiosko 787 while searching nearby options. We tried calling three times, but the phone would ring, play a greeting, and disconnect. Despite that, we decided to give it a try and arrived around 2:30 pm. The exterior was colorful and inviting, reminiscent of Old San Juan. Inside was smaller than expected but vibrant and cozy. The restaurant was empty except for one hostess on her phone. When we asked to dine in (party of five), she immediately asked if we had a reservation and told us reservations had to be made online. She explained they do not answer the phone as it's only for online orders and business information. After waiting a few minutes, she was able to seat us. Three people in our group had never tried Puerto Rican food, so we were excited to introduce them. We ordered drinks and the Picadera Sampler, which was excellent -- flavorful fried chicken chunks and delicious fried cheese. We finished the entire platter. For entrées, two of us ordered the Chuleta Kan Kan to share, and the other three also shared one, adding a mofongo as an extra side. The menu describes it as a "mega thick cut pork chop" and shows a large cut including belly and rib, which is why we chose to share. When the dishes arrived, the pork chops were normal-sized, thin, and nothing like the description or photo. We jokingly renamed them "Chuleta Can't Can't." The server dropped off the plates without knives or checking in and remained distracted on her phone. When we asked about the size, we were told the butcher sends different cuts. We asked about adding extra meat, but were told we would need to purchase another full entrée as they could not sell us a portion of meat, even when we asked if carne frita/pork chunks or a pork chop would be an option. The pork was thin, overcooked, and dry. The rice and pigeon peas were bland and heavy on tomato paste or sauce flavor. The mofongo, however, was moist and delicious with a garlicky butter sauce. Shortly after, another staff member brought out an additional pork chop that they "found in the kitchen," which was appreciated but also very dry. Given we were the only table (aside from one later customer), more proactive service and a heads-up about portion sizes would have helped manage expectations and given us the chance to order differently. The restaurant was also extremely warm. When we mentioned the heat, the response was dismissive. We really wanted this to be a great introduction to Puerto Rican cuisine for our friends. Unfortunately, the service and misleading entrée presentation fell short. The Picadera Sampler and mofongo were the only highlights and the reason for the 2-star rating.

We initially had decided on ordering the Combo La Chacra, which consists of a whole rotisserie chicken, yellow rice with red beans, an avocado salad, an order of salchipapas, and an order of maduros. We added an extra half chicken, and thought "that's a wrap". However, there was an appetizer special of thinly sliced octopus prepared Peruvian style that needed to be ordered too. The service was excellent. Not overwhelming, but just right. Dishes were cleared, napkins replaced, straw wrappers taken away as soon as they hit the table. It's not something that I'm used to writing about, but needed to be said. And then, the food. It was outstanding. Compared to both the basic, and the high end Peruvian restaurants that I've been to throughout the city, La Chacra is far and away the best. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and felt intentional. Nothing was just thrown on a plate. As full as we were, and we were quite full, there was no way that we were leaving without trying something from the desert menu. Another wise choice, as both the flan and the tres leche cake were fantastic. To wrap this one up, this spot is a solid five stars.
