There are no wrong choices on the menu and one of my favorite discoveries lately is grabbing a few tamales and taking them to eat on Eastern Parkway (or take them to the beach if you need something that is ok in the heat.) read more

The girl who was helping us was helpful and really friendly . She suggested some dope pastries they had on hand and I wanna go back and give her a high five for that . The coffee was great! I always see folks in here, so I decided to pop in myself. I was finally drawn in by what appeared to be cupcakes but I later found was a corn muffin with dulce de leche iced topping. After a short wait, I was greeted by a super friendly staff member whose name escapes me as I'm pushing 30, who not only readily took my order but answered all of my questions and gave me insider tips on questions I didn't ask; for example, they have $1 coffee and will often cut customers a little slack (a small service charge) if they can't meet the $5 card minimum. I was sold and went ahead with my order of 1 cupcake-looking muffin thingy and 1 small coffee. The coffee was exquisite! I'm actually craving it right now. The cupcake-looking muffin thingy was just ok. On the brighter side, they advertise buttermilk pancakes, which I'm quite anxious to try amongst other goodies on the menu. The restaurant itself also seems like a peaceful, inspiring place to have a meeting or work, so I'll have to add those to my list as well. I'm looking forward to more! read more

This is a very cute coffee shop/restaurant in Crown Heights that I like to go to on a lazy weekend morning for coffee and pancakes (try their chorizo, it comes with the pancakes!) It has a very relaxed vibe, so you will see people come in with their laptops and work or browse the internet while drinking their morning (or afternoon) espresso. That part kind of throws me off when I just want to go to brunch with a friend and someone has taken a two person table for themselves with a laptop, but I guess there are tons of other places to go for brunch with a friend or two. I haven't had too many of their coffee drinks, but the food is great, so simple and delicious. Definitely check this place out if you are new to Crown Heights! read more

Cute little Crown Heights coffee shop serving tasty food items at affordable prices. We got lucky and made it in on one of the the not so busy weekday mornings. Good quality coffee and a damn good egg and chorizo sandwich. The bread is thick but soft and soaks up all the good chorizo juice. The eggs are softly scrambled. It's the most perfect breakfast sandwich. Also ordered the dulce de leche pancakes. They were your standard soft pancakes with yummy sweet butter. No real need for the syrup but go for it if you're about that sugar life (which I am). Everything came to a great price and again, I cannot rave enough about that egg sandwich. If you go here, get that sandwich. I was sad I got pancakes instead of that sandwich. Oh and I forgot, the pancakes came with roasted shredded pork. Tasty. Juicy. Not chewy. Pretty good pork, but again, I would have gotten then sandwich had I know better. And this is coming from the sweet over meat queen. read more

The host of my Airbnb brownstone left an information packet listing Colina Cuervo as a great nearby breakfast spot, and she was right! Located just a block away, I went twice. The first was takeout for my wife and I, and the second was dine-in with the family. Both times, the food quality was excellent, as was the coffee. The first time I had the pork hash, a Latin-inspired melange both wholesome and fulfilling as a "last the whole day" breakfast. The second time I had the buttermilk pancakes, literally some of the lightest, tastiest I've ever had. They are topped with...wait for it...dulce de leche BUTTER! This is something I've never had (and I'm from Miami). The combination was heavenly. Served with the pancakes was a side of delicious slow-roasted pork, rivaling any I've had in Miami. This isn't surprising as the staff are a very warm and welcoming group of Ecuatorianos. The prices are very reasonable, only adding to the value of this gem on Nostrand Ave. As long as my daughters continue to reside in the Crown Heights area, I'm sure I'll be back to visit and will make it a point to return to Colina Cuervo again. read more

I only had their cappuccino - we drove by Sunday late morning in mid November and the place was packed: both the cafe/seating side, and also the coffee-bar. I waited outside while Stacey got our cappuccinos. It was not very hot, and it had a strong flavor to the foam coating. It was close to a burnt-flavor, but I personally like the richness of the taste and also the mouthful of dense foam. Each was about $3.50, with tip it was $4.50 each. Colina Cuervo is one of my go-to brunch spots in Crown Heights. Love the avocado toast and the avocado/scrambled egg sandwich. The pickled onions is really what makes them. Have also tried the empanadas and tamales, which are slightly overpriced but also come with the same delicious pickled onions and chimichurri sauce. My only complaint here is the limited menu -- I often find myself ordering the same thing everytime. Need to come for lunch and try the roast pork sandwich or some of the salads which look tempting. The hot brewed coffee here always tastes bitter to me, but the iced coffee and horchata drinks are winners. read more

This is a light and airy spot for latin american inspired breakfast/brunch. Colina cuervo features both a take away bar for ordering quick coffee, as well as a few cozy tables with table service. The ecaudorian inspired menu has a lot of options - both lighter and heavier - a handful of which are gluten-free or can be modified to be gluten free. The waitress was a bit confused when I asked about gluten-free options (saying I should avoid something because of the corn), but ultimately was able to check with the kitchen and reassure me that my pick was gluten-free. My pick - the pork hash - was a unique and feeling option! The hominy created a great gluten-free starch option that was a great layer underneath the poached egg and pickled jalapeno. Yum! They also have free wifi - so it serves as a great spot to hang out and do a little work over coffee as well! read more

One of my favorite spots in the hood. Have gotten good to go as well as sit down for brunch. - Skirt Steak - very filling as it comes with sunny side up egg and a cornmeal type of side. Not a fan of the side but the steak itself was seasoned well and cooked medium rare. - Chorizo Sandwich - my favorite item on the menu though the bread isn't the best IMO. Chorizo is delicious with right amount of heat and all the toppings work well together. If they switched to a different bread, maybe even panini style, I'd probably get this all the time. - Slow Roasted Pork Sandwich - not a fan of pulled pork but BF loves this one. It is delicious and the best part is the pickled red onion. Not my go-to but I'd get it if I wanted a pork sandwich. - Ham and Brie croissant - have gotten this to go and it's very buttery and flakey. Albeit on the saltier side, it was still very good. I found this place a few weeks ago when looking for a new study spot. The coffee is great (and comes in huuuuge cups) and the food is AWESOME. I had the mushroom melt- it's this beautiful mess of cheese, shiitake mushrooms, and chimichurri. SO. GOOD. The girl next to me was eating what looked like scrambled eggs and avocado on a croissant and I honestly contemplated ordering a second meal because of how delicious it looked. The entire menu looks great- looking forward to coming back and trying more! I came here on a weekday and it was pretty quiet- great place to study for a few hours. Went here for brunch with my boyfriend on New Year's Day, and got scrambled eggs and avocado on a Luna bun with a horchata latte. The space was a bit cramped, but the egg-celent (ha, egg puns) food, coffee, and service made up for it. The prices aren't bad either, the most expensive thing on the menu was 17$ and everything else around or a little over 10$. Cute tiny cafe across the street from my new apartment! So excited to come here for más comida. This place does not have any alcoholic drinks for brunch, so if that's what you want, maybe it's not for you! Their non-alcoholic iced drinks are great though - their hibiscus lemonade was really tart and not at all over sweetened like so many lemonades are. I got the torta de chorizo with avocado and it was this big hearty sandwich with a spicy salsa and lots and lots of delicious chorizo. It really was an excellent sandwich. My friends got pork hash and buttermilk pancakes, and they were happy campers: the pancakes were fluffy and the pork hash really hit the spot. Service was fine, and the place can seat a comfortable 15-20 people. Come here for a quick bite! read more

The food here is awesome and tastes fresh and the staff are warm and friendly. We came here for breakfast and both plates were delicious. I got the skirt steak with an egg and I think my wife got pancakes. The prices are just right and the atmosphere is cozy. This is one of my favorite brunch spots in Brooklyn. Even as crowded as it got this past Sunday, Jorge managed to keep track of each party (if I'm not mistaken, solely by memory too) and even offered us a complimentary coffee for waiting 20 minutes, which is nothing by Brooklyn brunch standards. Once we got seated, the server (I didn't manage to get her name but her earring game is VERY strong), was very friendly and helpful in giving us recommendations on the best things to get. Each time I've been here, the food has been amazing, no matter what I order. I highly recommend the iced horchata to go with whatever you choose! Yesterday, I ordered an Ensalada de la Casa which is easily one of the best and only salads I would ever order out at a restaurant. Especially when you add some chorizo. My boyfriend ordered the Pork Hash, with a pork tamale, which was also delicious. Overall, I highly recommend Colina Cuervo for its combo of delicious food and amazing service! This little cafe is a very welcome addition to the Crown Heights neighborhood. They serve Counter Culture coffee and whole beans and do it a great justice. Their Latin American inspired breakfast and lunch offerings are a great way to start your day and won't break the bank. I had a slow roasted pork sandwich that had incredible flavor and their lentil soup is delicious. The staff are very welcoming and accommodating and partake in friendly conversation. The space is small and cozy, but inviting to brunch-goers or the student who needs a place to sit and work with a good cup of coffee. Took my parents here one day and we've been several times since. They staff is friendly and helpful and the coffee is great. They have a small menu but everything we tried was good. I highly recommend stopping in for a coffee at the very least. If you like Latin American food that has some real thought behind it this is the place for you. Their chorizo is pretty spicy but homemade and their baked goods always fresh. They also offer teas and other drinks if coffee isn't your preference. A great light lunch place! read more

Very cute new cafe/eatery on Nostrand. Had the Watercress & Avocado salad. VERY fresh veggies, was pleased. Only issue is the salad could use a more acidic component or dressing... sort of bland as-is. Shared the chicken tamale- VERY delicious and freshly made!
