So I walked into Cold Stone just trying to get my big back on in order you know, a little emotional support in the form of a "Gotta Love It." Now, this worker , bless her heart , had a hair color that did not match her energy, outfit, or spirit. I tried to let it slide because maybe she was having a long day, but ma'am... I told her, "Hey, can I get extra cake in mine?" and she goes, "That's extra." Cool. I said "No problem." She puts a double scoop, but I clearly said triple ,three times the cake, please and thank you. She repeats again, "That's extra." I said, "Girl, I got McDonald's money!" thinking we could laugh together like humans. Nope. Dead stare. You'd think I asked for her social security number. By the third time, it felt like she was praying I'd give up just so she wouldn't have to mix it. And when she scraped my ice cream together, she left the cake crumbs on the counter like they personally offended her. Came here for a late night treat and I was not disappointed with the ice-cream at all. However, the minute I walked in there was quite a long line and only one person working behind the counter. Took about 30 minutes before I could order. However, employee behind the counter was super nice and was trying her best. I like the fact that there is also seating inside this location though it is smaller inside. I went back to the counter to inform the manager and to see if I could either change my flavor or just get a refund. She was very short with me and said that I made my own choice and there was nothing she could do besides pay for a new order. This shop was clean, had plenty of free parking in the shared lot, and it looked like the ice cream tubs/barrels on display were maintained and full. The ice cream tasted great almost too sweet but I usually don't eat much sweets and drink diet pop. The price isn't too bad for the quality and variety. Took my niece her for National Ice Cream Day because they advertised a BOGO deal. She ordered Mint Chocolate and Orange Crème (strange I know, but we shouldn't judge a kid, right? LOL) and was super fascinated with how the workers mixed the ice cream and mix-ins. She added heath bar and butterfinger to her ice cream (making her choice even more strange, I know) At this point you all know my usual of only ordering Vanilla/Chocolate, this time I opted for just vanilla (which they call "Sweet Cream", they also have a French Vanilla) and topped it with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. The ice cream was just what I expected "OK", but seeing as I'm a real fan of Froyo you can take that with a grain of salt. The real issue here is the service, I went specifically for the National Ice Cream deal and not only did the cashier who helped us have no prior knowledge of this deal she didn't try to act as if she cared about being ignorant in her job. I've been teaching my niece the value of money and letting her interact with the cashiers at the different places we go and since the cashier had no idea about the BOGO deal my niece couldn't "afford" hers. So I had to use my card instead of allowing her to spend her $10. The ice cream ended up being close $13 something I had not budgeted for. Second time we ordered a birthday cake and it was messed up, first time they did not put happy birthday and the child's name at all even though they charge extra for it. This most recent time after ordering a cake for 16th birthday and confirming with a manager the day before that it would be correct, they mis spell the name, 2 phone calls to confirm details and they put happy birthday Addi, our kids name is Abbi they offered to remake it, however we were picking it up an hour before the birthday party. We tried to upgrade from DQ however at least Dairy Queen gets the order correct and the customer service is good. If you live on Indy's west side, drive to the Plainfield store at Metropolis or register your birthday complimentary desert there. The Avon location had its' day in the sun, but just like on any hot day, the ice cream melts fast and so did this locations opportunity to keep me coming back. When the location first opened, you got the royal treatment and fan-fare of a flagship franchise Cold Stone Creamery. The employees sang out the Cold Stone songs and pleasantries, the orders were quick and accurate, and you felt like visiting time and time again. Nowadays, the owner/operator greets you with "What you want" and before I could even order, he says, "No coupons here". I happened to have the latest Entertainment Book in hand and was looking to use one coupon and walk out of the store with 5 different orders for the family. I only planned to use the one coupon for one order as it stated, but he simply refused entertaining the Entertainment Book offering. I placed my order, but it left an impression. I went back several other times afterward with the same parting feelings of "what is this guys problem" for a myriad of other reasons not even relating to discounts or coupons. I guess some people think they can run a franchise by name alone with little to no people skills. I would recommend the Plainfield location as they are always pleasant and friendly. read more

I didn't mind the wait, but was irritated that the coworker in the back room didn't come out to assist the poor girl. About 7 minutes later she was ready for my order. There was an advertisement for a s'mores concoction that sounded appetizing so I told her to make that. She was smashing the crap out of those toppings - by the time it got in my cup is was a blended, mushy, runny mess. It reminded me if something I'd do when I was like 8yrs old with vanilla ice cream and Hershey's chocolate sauce. Not pretty looking at all. OK - so I overlook the fugly presentation and start diving into my treat. Way too much chocolate and no marshmallow what-so-ever. A day and half later, I stopped by the shop to get my cake. Went in, the employee (who was friendly) went back to get my cake - and there it was as requested! To my horror it was mixed into a ball on a steel board where ice cream with nuts are also being rolled. When I told the man serving me he scraped the area with a dirty scraper with all sorts of ice cream on it.
