We were recommended to come here from the Inn we were staying at in Sugar Hill. It is located on I guess you would call it a "main street" in NH. It is a quaint little restaurant with local artist's jewelry hanging up on the walls! Cool! Most patrons had wine, and there was an extensive wine list. We didn't order wine, we were just really hungry. We started with the cold mountain salad which was very tasty, made with local greens and yummy dressing. I had the crab cakes which were SO so delicious. Not overly greasy, but super tasty and chunks of crab. Served with some lime/cilantro dressing, and veggies. I am a fan. My boyfriend got one of the specials, which was lamb chop. I cannot comment, but it looked like a lot of meat, and he liked it. Prices ranged from 15 - 20. Specials were also in that range, and the most expensive item was probably the rack of lamb, which was 20. Not bad. We also got dessert (there were three or four choices), and we got a fudge brownie which was served warm with whip cream. That totally made the meal, even served without a la mode! My boyfriend described it as tasting like a hostess, but so much better. This is very true! Although I was full, the dessert was irresistible. The waitstaff was very friendly, although a little slow because it seemed like they were understaffed. Many dirty tables, but it's ok. I just felt bad for the girls! Anyway, overall, I had a pleasant experience at cold mountain cafe. I would like to go back to have the crab cakes again, if ever in the area again! read more

You can't imagine our surprise to find, what we originally thought would be an average greasy spoon, was actually a superb and eclectic restaurant with thoughtful and sophisticated food. Things started out well in that the waitress warmly greeted us and quickly got us to our table. My wife started (on the waitresses recommendation) with the crab cakes. We were a touch incredulous being sea-going Gloucester folk, but gave her the benefit of the doubt. We were not disappointed. Hands down in the top two crab cakes we have ever had...ever. All premium crab meat, lightly seasoned and then pan seared for a wonderful crust. To die for with a light chili sauce. I had David's Savory Salad. Incredilby fresh, crisp greens with just the right amount of acid in the vinagarette and Gorgonzola. Wonderful. It got even better though. My wife was in a veggie mood and ended up getting the "Stack is Back" which was a layered eggplant dish with polenta and ricotta cheese. She couldn't stop raving about it. Everything matched perfectly, and the eggplant wasn't too heavy; which is a common fault with these types of dishes. I had the rack of lamb and it was superb. Perfectly cooked/seasoned with a light pomegrante glaze and fantastic roasted root vegetables. We finished things off by splitting a berry Bavarian (a kind of sour creamy/mousse thing). Light acid, floral notes from the berries and an overwhelming creaminess. We literally couldn't have asked for anything more. All this at a price that would have gotten you 2 beers and plate of cheese fries in Boston. Highly recommended! read more

This is north country and getting great restaurent food is hard to come by, but not at Cold Mountain Cafe! I've been to the restaurant 3-4 times and had fantastic meals there every time. Last night my husband had the stuffed dates (terrific) and I had a salad which was OK. We split the pork special and I have not had better anywhere - will not split next time! Pork is a difficult meat to get right and Cold Mountain did it perfectly - juicy and tender with elegant strawberry vinaigrette sauce. The staff can indeed be a bit "short" in that north country way, but that unfortunately goes with the territory. I truly believe they make a serious effort. If you can overlook this the food is fantastic. read more

What a nice place to sit outside for lunch on a nice day and watch the people and their dogs walk by. The turkey sandwich came on delicious whole wheat bread and was mounded high and very tasty. The gazpacho (sp?) soup was just OK. It had good flavor but had a lot of soft tomato pulp. Nice atmosphere, good service, great prices, and more things I'd like to try next time. read more

First off, there really aren't many choices in this area. We went here for dinner and weren't disappointed. We started off with the mussels for an appetizer and with most restaurants when I order mussels, I really wished I had more crostini. There was just so much tasty sauce left over, it was a shame leaving it. We had The paella, the lamb stew, and our daughter had the salmon fish special. The wine had a very generous pour. There was a creative cocktail menu. I tried the maple walnut old fashioned. We enjoyed ourselves and weren't disappointed. I'd like to add that we arrived at 5:15 on a Friday night. There was no wait. We were seated right away. We were very hungry after a very active powder day in the notch and were pleasantly sated when we left. read more

We found Cold Mountain Cafe while doing an online restaurant search. Based on the reviews, we decided it would a great dinner stop. The previous diners were very accurate in describing an unassuming bistro style restaurant situated in a charming NH town. Great food; delicious beverages; excellent and attentive service, truly pleasant atmosphere. Wish we had a similar spot in our home town; it was interesting listening to the number of local diners who enjoyed great rapport with the staff and who shared their appreciation for the delicious food. We were staying at the Omni Mt Washington for a few days before hiking in the Whites. The food at the hotel is all terribly over priced so we went looking for an off campus option. Cold Mountain Cafe was a 20 minute drive away and worth the trip! Service was very friendly and the place felt homey. The menu was very diverse and our food was great. Pretty big portions as well. The pork chop I ordered was a little over cooked, but the flavors were bold and unique. Recommend if you're looking for a solid dinner option in the area. read more

Great cafe on Main Street in Bethlehem, NH. I had the Gorgonzola and apple bacon quiche with a cup of gazpacho, my husband had a ham sandwich on a nice crusty baguette--the perfect refreshing lunch after 18 holes of golf down the road at Maplewood. The cafe is intimate, colorful and cozy featuring a local artist's works on the wall (for sale). There are additional tables and umbrellas outside for that "just back from Cannes" feeling. Rose, anyone? Conversations spilled into the sidewalk,contributing to the growing vibrancy of Bethlehem. read more

Definitely not kid friendly!!!! Not sure why yelp indicates its kid friendly. No kids menu. The place is very quaint (small) and what I would call artsy fartsy. Friendly staff, limited menu and they specialize in small portions. Food was decent but far from standard fare. You will probably leave hungry. read more

Lovely little spot in what seems to be the middle of nowhere. I had the salad of the day which was greens with a fresh salmon salad, two large, perfectly grilled shrimp and a crispy, creamy miniature crabcake. Delicious. My daughter's grilled chicken sandwich was very juicy (according to her). My husband ordered the quiche and soup and both were clearly homemade: buttery crust on the quiche and creamy soup with big chunks of potato. It happened to be a cold, rainy day so all of this warm food just really hit the spot. Really friendly service, too. read more

My girlfriend had the eggplant stacked dish and she thought the black bean dish I ordered was better. I went here over Labor Day weekend for lunch. I had low expectations as sometimes yelp fails me in remote locations (all of the upper valley) but was pleasantly surprised by how very good it was. We were on our way to Montpelier and needed gas. I checked Yelp in Bethlehem and this place looked nice. We parked right out front and ate inside at @2. We chose two specials, a turkey+ sandwich and a Mac n cheese with pulled pork. The third meal was a standard chicken salad. Everything was fresh, tasty and served in a timely fashion. There don't seem to be a lot of good places to eat around the Franconia area and unfortunately this is not one of them. The server was painfully uneducated on what was being served and the service was pretty awful (didn't refill waters, didn't tell us about any of the specials/soup du jour, just walked up to our table and asked us for our order). Here's a breakdown of our meal (4 adults): Artichoke dip: was like a pot of creamed garlic, it wasn't actually that bad but I don't think there was one artichoke in it. Tomato bean soup: was way over spiced with fennel and rosemary to the point it was inedible. Carrot ginger soup: had so much ginger I couldn't taste the carrot (but if you like ginger soup this is for you!). Haddock special: So bland. There were some walnuts and apples thrown on top and some flavorless rice and awful steamed vegetables on the side. Pork tenderloin with apricot chutney: the pork was overcooked and so were the side potatoes (they were wrinkled up like hollow, dried out prunes). Sun dried tomato ravioli: the best thing that we had, was decently done. I would definitely not recommend this place. read more
