A wonderful, more upscale version of the original COFU on Granville Island.
They've been open a month now, so we decided to try it out. You can either do the dining room experience and order a la carte, or do the fancy Omikase ($130/person) which is a lavish 18-course (!) meal. We decided to try the dining room experience this time and were very impressed.
We ordered:
-2 orders of pressed sushi ($15) -- you can choose 2 types per order. So we got short rib, salmon, tuna, and tofu. All were fantastic, especially the short rib and tofu.
-Pouch sushi with "cheese tofu" ($9) -- you get to choose your filling and it comes with 2 pieces. We got the "cheese tofu", which was delicious.
-Gomae ($9) -- classic gomae but over-sauced a bit, making it a bit too salty.
-Cabbage & tomato ($8) -- pickled cabbage and a few slices of tomato. This was a disappointment. Nothing bad, but just not worth ordering. Simple, bland, and overpriced for what you get.
-Parsley tofu lemon ($9) -- we weren't sure what we were going to get. Turns out it's a sort of moose-like consistency, served with thin crackers. I think the crackers needed to be a bit sturdier to support the dish, but the flavours were nice.
-Tofu quiche ($14) -- super creative dish, with a soft, potato-like texture, garnished with enoki mushrooms and a white bean dip/base. Very tasty.
Overall, the sushi items were the highlights, along with the quiche.
The restaurant is beautifully designed, comfortable, and elegant. Top-notch service -- friendly, informative, and hospitable.
What a great spot. Highly recommended. We'll return to try the Omikase. read more
