SCAMMERS!!! Do not use coffey bros moving co in westchester il. I am a single senior woman which i believe i was taken advantage of with my move. I moved from a studio with an outdoor sectional, a two chair and table bistro set and about 50 boxes which were all packed and ready to go. They took pics of items that were to be moved and items that would stay at old residence. They wrapped and brought big items to new residence that were not supposed to go with me. Isnt that why they took pics in first place? iIblame movers for taking so long and coffey bros for price gouging! I have seen 68 one star reviews for this company on their website about deceptive pricing. I was originally quoted $397 for 2 hours then $1100 for 4 hours then $1315 for 4 hours then $1884 for 5 hours and ultimatley pd $2948.20 for 5 hours. I was just told about someone i know moved into a 3000 sq ft home for $3500. It's obvious it wasn't Coffey Bros. They charged me for things they cant even explain when calling and inquiring. Additional services and other fees? Packing materials? Packing materials was originally $80 then climbed to i believe $240. They went bonkers without even asking. I had items already wrapped and one item bubble wrapped and they put them in a box. They put a dog gate in a box! I didn't ask for alot of items to be wrapped in boxes. I gave them a mattress cover to move my mattress and they said not to worry, they have one. Well they charged me. They charged me for furniture covers​ they used to protect the furniture they moved which they forgot to take with them when they left. The manager said i bought them that's why the workers left them at the house. They damaged furniture and refused to compensate when when i bought their insurance. We had a very concerning experience with Coffey Bros. Moving and would strongly caution others. We were initially quoted approximately $3,600 for our move after providing a detailed inventory multiple times and confirming everything in advance. We were reassured the move would take about 8-9 hours with 4 movers and that the total would remain close to that estimate. This move was from one house to another house within a mile of each other in the same neighborhood! On move day, the crew did conduct an inventory at the beginning but did not communicate any changes or provide an updated estimate. They proceeded to load all of our belongings onto the truck. Only after everything was loaded did they inform us that the total had increased to over $13,000 -- more than four times what we were quoted. At that point, they refused to unload any of our belongings unless we paid in full. Even after we paid approximately $12,000, they still would not begin unloading until additional payment was made. This happened late at night with all of our possessions on their truck, leaving us with no real option. We asked to speak with a supervisor to understand the charges. Although he was placed on speakerphone, he refused to speak with us or explain why the cost had increased so dramatically. Throughout the process, we were repeatedly required to sign documents on a phone that we could not properly review, and they would not explain what we were signing. We were told we had to sign to continue while under pressure due to a strict move-out deadline. The final bill included many concerning charges, including: * Repeated charges for the same items/services (exercise equipment, Peloton, TVs, glass handling) * Significant material charges (e.g., dozens of rolls of tape and excessive wrapping) that we did not authorize and explicitly asked them not to use * Additional services that were not clearly disclosed in advance *They broke our new storm door and our master King Bed Frame. At the end of the move, we were also required to provide photographs of our credit card and identification, which took over an hour. We never agreed to this beforehand and felt extremely uncomfortable given the circumstances. Overall, this experience felt highly pressured and not transparent. The final cost was dramatically higher than what was represented, and we were not given a fair opportunity to review or approve charges before being required to pay. Sent people over at 6pm and they grabbed my boxes instead of the heavy stuff like beds and T.V . They stored my stuff overnight cause they could not finish the job. My experience with Coffey Brothers Moving is they provided a very competitive estimate but the estimate grossly underestimated what the final bill would be. The final amount I was charged was over $1,000 more than the estimate from the day before the move for moving a 1 bedroom condo approximately 50 miles. And they said they wouldn't bring anything from the truck into the new residence until they were paid in full. I found it especially disturbing that I was totally upfront about what the move involved, (e.g. three flights of stairs at the origin location, approximately one hour drive time between the origin and destination locations) but they didn't add the stairs fee onto their estiimate until the day of the move. And the total hours they charged me for the move were more than double the hours on the estimate from the day before the move. In the used car sales world, this is called "bait and switch", a very sleazy business practice. On the plus side the movers themselves were very professional, courteous and worked pretty fast. I would never use Coffey Brothers Moving again. The price I ended up paying was over 2.5 times their estimate from their estimate the day before the move. The absolute worst moving experience I've ever had. After doing my due diligence and researching interstate movers, Coffey Bros. seemed like the right fit for my move from Chicago to Detroit. I was quoted $2,480 and paid a $1,000 deposit. For context, I was moving out of a 900 sq. ft. one-bedroom apartment- a standard living room, dining area, bedroom, and some wall art. Nothing out of the ordinary. Sam and Frank arrived around 8:30 a.m. and somehow took four hours just to load the truck. I've been using moving companies for over 10 years, and I've never seen a one-bedroom apartment take anywhere near that long. To make matters worse, after they loaded everything, I was told I had "more stuff than estimated" and was hit with an additional $1,100 charge. If your estimate can be off by over a thousand dollars after an inventory, what exactly is the estimate for? Since I was paying by the hour, watching the clock was infuriating. At one point, they stopped working for 55 minutes. When I asked about it, Sam told me it was their "15-minute break." I was literally paying them while they stood around. Then came the damage. While trying to move my couch, they couldn't figure out how to get it through the doorway. Instead of stopping to reassess, they forced it through, leaving a large hole in my apartment wall and damaging my $3,000 couch. Even worse, they initially tried to avoid taking responsibility by submitting the wall damage as a generic claim instead of documenting that their crew caused it. The unloading in Detroit wasn't any better. They only take payment in cash, zelle or credit card... but zelle at my son's bank has a daily cap of $2,000. His card was reissued and he did not have it available at the moment. His bank is out of state, so he could not get cash. I tried paying by credit card for him, but they will not let anyone pay the bill who is not on the contract. They have their system worked down to a science to low-ball an estimate and then strongarm you when the move is in process with all sorts of techniques to overinflate the bill (which they never provide a detail accounting of) and hold you in a position with no choice but to pay their fee and "file a claim" afterwards. Their "claims department" is backed up for a month or 120 days, which should tell you something. When you receive a message from the claims department, it is a boilerplate cut-and-paste paragraph which is not specific to your complaint, but a complete distortion of what happened. DO NOT USE COFFEY BROS! My husband and I moved from a 3 bedroom 3 bathroom condo into a single family home 45 minutes away and it was the worst experience I've ever had with a moving company. Let me preface by saying I have paid for 3 different moving companies over the years between Chicago and Minneapolis and have never had such a bad experience. The estimate I was given was wildly wrong: I fully filled out the inventory with the help of a representative and then added more things myself. All included, I said we would have about 30 boxes and 3 bedrooms, a kitchen, and living room. They estimated us at around $2,500 for a 6 hour move. It ended up costing almost $6,000, 12 hours, and they were holding our belongings hostage until we paid the extra amount. Here's the email I sent to their claims department: "This last Friday April 17th, three of your movers moved us to our new home. We had several issues with the move itself and the movers. First, the estimate was completely unrealistic. I worked with [redacted], calling several times to make sure we had everything we needed. She was always kind and polite but clearly underestimated the work that had to be done. Second, some of our items that were in the inventory, like patio furniture, was not moved. There were other things not moved as well, such as three kitchen chairs and a large welcome rug. Third, when the movers were finishing up at [old home], we left early to prepare at [new home]. We asked the movers to close up the home. However, we returned Saturday and the back door was left unlocked, all the lights were left on, the windows left open, and urine left in the toilet. They also left pop cans out, which we offered to them as refreshments during the move. Fourth, in regards to the estimated time of completion: the movers successfully loaded the truck in 4-5 hours but took an additional 4-5 hours to unload. Our total estimated time was 6 hours. I'm unsure why the movers required so much extra time, but we have never had this issue with other moving companies. Fifth, the movers wrapped almost everything. Even unnecessary items like a cat tree or a lamp. These items were left in our home fully wrapped so unpacking has taken us hours extra. Sixth, along with leaving so many items wrapped, the movers did unwrap large items like the couch. The wrapping and tape was then put in the alley behind our home. The movers told us they couldn't take it with them because Coffey Bros charges for disposal of packaging. Seventh, our couch is a large sectional that has reclining seats. It has three cords that must be plugged in to function. Not only did they not plug this in, they wrapped the cords around the couch frame, forcing us to lift the couch, move it, unwrap the cords, pull the couch away from the wall, plug the couch in, and move it back. Eighth, and maybe least importantly, a light fixture in our living room was hit. This kind of thing can be expected, but it wasn't disclosed to us. We had to find it for ourselves, which felt deceitful. There are more issues we had but these were the biggest ones. Please help us with a resolution. We paid thousands of dollars for a service that was not done well." Despite the long list and gross underestimate, the claims department decided to award us $10 and wanted us to sign a paper preventing us from sharing this experience. I live in a small studio apartment and was moving to another apartment only 1.2 miles away. I was initially quoted $700 for the entire move and ended up paying almost TRIPLE the price. They had all my furniture loaded into their truck and made me pay the final bill before proceeding with unloading their truck. When I had questions about the final bill, they told me they couldn't answer them and to pay them and then call the company for questions. I was forced to pay without any of my questions answered. I filed a claim with their claims department. They incorrectly charged me of multiple things and also severely damaged both door frames of each apartment. They got back to me in two weeks offering only $100 refunded for what they incorrectly charged me for. I also paid extra to insure property damage. They offered only an additional $125 for the damaged door frames. It gets even worse. They told me that I would be refunded the $100 of incorrect charges within 2 business days. And they would ONLY refund me for the damaged door frames ($125) if I signed their Liability Release form. This form stated that the money will only be refunded to me if I don't leave them any bad reviews on any third party websites...that's when you know they've had numerous bad customer experiences when they have to include that. After not receiving my initial refund after 2 business days, I followed up with them. They tried to be sneaky and changed the Liability Release form to also include BOTH the $100 and $125. They initially told me I only had to sign the form to get the $125 back, but the $100 should have been refunded without having to sign the form. They told me that they can change the form any time they want even though that wasn't what was initially communicated. Now I'm not getting any money back because I want to leave an honest review of this terrible moving company to warn you all. Take pictures of every single online form they send you. Because they change it and you won't have any proof of the original forms. They changed my initial quote form and the Liability Release form. Don't use this company. SCAMMERS. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! I was quoted $677 and ended up paying $5k they add charges to the bill that are never discussed nor agreed upon. The movers video the items and the owner sits at his desk and adds all of the additional charges to your bill According to the video. They charge you to go up more than 6 steps. They use packing supplies that are not needed. They held my stuff hostage on the truck and threatened to leave if I didn't pay cash or Zelle. They would then charge me by the hour to keep my stuff until I paid. I had given my card but the owner was afraid that I would dispute charges And would only accept cash or Zelle. Here is my initial email to the company and then my last after they didn't agree to a credit. I am just disappointed with their lack of price transparency. "I am contacting you to express my dissatisfaction with your "Honest Estimate backed by our Rate Guarantee". $567.00: Initial Quote Leah G. April 1, $149.00 per hour, minimum 2 hours, estimated move 3.5 hrs.     $75.00: Prior to move additional charges (King bed $50.00 and Assemble/disable of my bed frame $25.00 I could determine     myself     $55.00: Day of move materials (1 plastic wrap and 1 roll of 6 tape) decided my movers. A glass charge was added but I provided the cardboard. $641.00: Second Quote signed at 12:15pm It looks like the materials doubled and a long carry fee was added during the drive to my destination $1085.00: Third Quote A travel fee was NEVER mentioned ($171.72) (I understood 149.00 was added to the initial quote but the number changed). You knew how many miles they had to travel so that should have been included in the initial quote since this was a fact and not an assumption. I cancelled another moving service because they quoted me 850.00 and your company quoted me 567.00. Listen, I completely understood that adjustments would be made, but you DO NOT provide a clear and honest estimate to your customers. Moving is stressful and when you have your movers show me a bill that is twice as much and won't move my furniture out of the truck until I sign is beyond frustrating. I plan on writing a less-than-optimal review about your services and will not recommend you to family or friends. You can't make multiple adjustments to the price during a move. I hope you will take my concerns seriously and make some adjustments to your quote process. I would appreciate a credit of 200.00". Final email to them with a lame response back: "The issue is the way your company quoted the move and changing the price as the day progressed. This was wrong and not transparent. If you would have outlined possible scenarios or asked key questions that would have made a huge difference. I'm not a mover or own a moving company. We as customers rely on you to provide clear pricing. I would have preferred you over quote. Plus Leah said during a call "I expect this to be less than the price I'm quoting you". Do you understand what I'm saying?? Can you provide me the name of a manager who is responsible for the team who takes calls and quotes customers? We used this company to move into our home just 7 miles away, while I was 5 months pregnant. They gave us an estimate and had us sign the contract based on the information I provided on how many items we were moving and the distance. They arrived and took much longer than they projected, which we didn't complain about. We then got to our new house and they would not unload our let us access our ENTIRE HOUSE WORTH'S of personal items and furniture until we signed the NEW contract charging us 3x more than what we were quoted. We then tipped them cash and the lead guy YELLED at my husband demanding more in tips to pay his guys. My husband had no more cash on him (because it was based on the original quote, not the quote $3k higher) and was willing to send money through Zelle. To which the mover explained that he needed to hide money from his wife so it needed to be in cash and not through Zelle. HORRIBLE experience and I will continue to deter anyone I ever come in contact with to never use this company. read more

Look on the BBB. Numerous complaints. Bait and Switch. I booked a move for today, March 28th. I had signed paperwork and given my CC details for deposit of $250. However, March 27th at 6 pm I got another text with more documents,. Upon reading through it was a list of all the additional fees which were not disclosed upfront prior to me providing my CC information for the deposit It was $25 to $50 for shrink wrap, unman tiling and putting back together furniture and the list was long of all the additional costs. At that point I was suspicious. I have NEVER had a moving company tell me after I had signed documents and provided payment there are more HIDDEN Fees that were not disclosed up front. I cancelled the move. Today I found out they have charged me $260!!! I am disputing it with my bank. STAY AWAY. Bad business practices, Bait and Switch. Scammy Scammers. There is so much to say about this terrible company. But I will say they chose the right one to mess with. It Literally took Alfonso & Javier (the movers) less 20 minutes to load their truck with my items - nothing over 150 pounds was loaded. Javier is an extremely tiny short man and was able to lift everything overhead to pass to his partner Alfonso in the truck. I also packed my POD so i know my items aren't heavy especially over 150 pounds. No furniture besides a lounge chair that is light, everything else was clothing and house stuff. I was quoted $447 with a $50 coupon. Then when we got to my apartment, somehow it increased by $700. And that's when the chaos started. We met at 1pm, they finished packing up at 1:25pm- we drove separately to my apartment and got there at 1:50pm. Javier was telling me it's gonna take over an hour to drop everything in my living room , even though they had access to an elevator. SCAM. So he wasn't going to be able to complete the job even though the reservation was for 2 hours.. 1pm-3pm. We argued for a while and they still had time to unload my things and they left all my stuff in my building lobby, so they didn't complete the job . Disgraceful and so is their management team. No customer service skills, The only skill they have is scamming, which they're not even smart at. They wouldn't allow me to complete my payment with my card. They only would take cash or zelle.. I wonder why? SCAM. Police were called for Javier's aggressive behavior and him trying to take my things away because I didn't agree with his assessment and charge. Yes I called the cops, police report made about the company. BBB will be contacted today too and so will my bank. When I tried to pay the rest with card info the took pictures of my bank card and ID and me in the photo to prevent "scamming", even tho I paid my down payment with the same card. I dont feel safe or comfortable with my pictures and pictures of my things taken by these unknown scammers. Be sure to document and record even paying them in cash. Very grimy, untrustworthy people and I will be making reviews everywhere included tiktok and I will be posting videos of all the interactions. you can see all my items I have and how I was being treated by these racist money hungry scumbags. Very disappointed in Ken the owner and his lame excuses for his employees, Alfonso who pretends he can't speak English, and Javier who was smiling the entire time while scamming.
