I really hate to do this but enough is enough. I come here because I study, I come here because this is my neighborhood, I come here because it's always buzzing with my friends and acquaintances and it's nice to run into everyone while grabbing something to enjoy. The coffee is SUBPAR though, so my go-to is just hot tea. Nothing special. The food is a complete hit or miss. Some days it's great..other days not so much. I come back in hopes for the goodness. The service is REALLY what I have a problem with. As someone mentioned in another review, it feels like you're bothering them when you get to the register to order. The employees rarely look up, rarely acknowledge that I'm standing there waiting. They literally act like they're on island time, a simple "I'll be right with you" goes a loooong way. Also, I'll NEVER forget the one time that rude employee literally lied to my face when I walked in early in the morning for a study session and the music was BLASTED (to get them pumped, to get them going...I get it) but I asked him to please lower it just a little bit and he straight up said "we can't do that, it's just this volume." Bro, I was there at least 4 times a week. That's NOT how loud your volume is. The energy in this cafe feels charged like a high school cafeteria, the staff set such a weird uninviting vibe and makes you feel like you're interrupting them when trying to place an order. During my most recent visit I came on a weekday afternoon to get some work done and I sat at the bar. The atmosphere would've been chill because most people were there to do the same .. except the employees were almost yelling to each other telling stories and gossiping about previous customers. I really enjoyed the coffee here. It's smooth, well-made, and it's obvious that a great deal of care goes into both their sourcing. Visited: 1/27/26 Parking: This place has no designated parking lot, and street parking is pretty limited, so keep that in mind before you go. I ended up parking a few blocks away and walking about four minutes to get there. The shop itself is very popular and gets crowded, so expect some noise and possibly a short wait for your order, although the line moved fairly quickly when I went. They do have Wi-Fi, so it can still work as a study spot. One thing to note is that the music inside is very loud. I couldn't hear my name being called when my drink was ready, so I didn't pick it up in time. Either it was tossed or someone else grabbed it, but the staff kindly made me a new matcha latte, which I really appreciated. If you plan to study or need a quieter environment, you will probably want noise-canceling headphones. The booth I sat at had an outlet, but it did not work at all. It might have just been that specific one, but it is something to keep in mind if you need to charge your devices. Utensils: There is a self-serve utensil station with metal spoons and forks as well as plastic ones. They also have cup lids, straws, napkins, and a designated bin for used utensils, which was very convenient and well organized. Order: Smoked Salmon Toast ($15): 8.5/10 It came with a generous amount of toppings, so even though the price is on the higher side, it felt slightly worth it because of how loaded it was. Matcha Latte ($7): 8/10 It was really good and exactly what I needed for my study session. The latte art on top was also a nice touch! You can get it iced or hot, but I ordered it hot. That probably enhanced the flavor, so I would need to try the iced version to really judge the quality of the matcha. Bathroom: The bathroom requires a code, so you just have to ask the staff. So much charm and flavor at this cafe! Hidden in Kenneth village, this was such a great find! A few things that set them apart, is how fresh everything seemed. I mean, the whole place smelled like the fresh churro buns! They called everyone by name- they remember all their customers! I mainly came here to try the breakfast burritos and get my coffee fix. One cool thing is you can get breakfast in the pm. I got the brisket burrito, I would say about 4.5 stars. I liked the rub of the brisket that gives it flavor, you could go without salsa if you really wanted to. The tortilla chips that come with it are delicious and fresh. This place breaks the mold as far as coffee shops having good food. Few coffee shops can pull it, but Coffee Commissary does. Now for the coffee how good is it? I would say not top tier best of LA good, but good. I had a Cubano cinnamon latte, which was good. My wife had a Vanilla latte which, taste more like a sweet latte. Overall I think it's a four to five star place depending upon how picky you are when it comes to coffee. My boyfriend stumbled upon this gem of a coffee shop one morning and was so excited to take me. Parking gets a little dense depending on what time you go-- weekend morning's... good luck! Even on busy weekend mornings the wait is worth it!! I usually get an iced American, amazing flavor without tasting watered down. My boyfriend always gets the Chai Latte, it has the perfect amount of spiced flavor. On the weekends before 3pm they serve the best Brisket Hash, me and my boyfriend share the bowl! I ordered an iced Matcha latte, and usually it's good and vibrant green but this last time I ordered the matcha looked like a chai. I even asked them what it was bc the color was so off but it looks like they were using matcha that was old and oxidized so it was no longer the green color it naturally is but instead a dull creamish color. I didn't let myself judge it on the color but once I tasted it, it was so gross. I couldn't drink it and ended up throwing it away. Kenneth village is a cute spot with a few places to eat mixed in with hair salons and fitness studios. Parking can be mixed as there are a lot of people that like to come enjoy this area. There are a few things to note about the Commissary. 1. You are practically an employee while there. They punch your order into the IPad and flip it for you to make payment, add tip, sign, and specify receipt delivery method. 2. They try to call your name when your order is ready. But it's hit or miss. Recommend hanging around the pick up counter as they don't call out names very loudly. 3. After eating, you bus your own table into a yucky bin of dirty dishes and a really gross trash can. I should not have given a 20% tip since I did most of the work. Ordered black coffee, no price listed on menu board. Found there were plenty of grounds in the bottom of the cup. Taste was decent though. Not what I would call great coffee. Pastry items looked good, tried out a cheddar ranch biscuit but it would have been nice if they could have popped it into a hot oven for a minute to revive it. We had the weekend avocado Benedict and the veggie burrito. Both were cold since we never heard them call out our name and after 20 minutes went to the counter to check on things. Food: holy mothers of the grail- GET THE BRISKET BURRITO. I have gotten it at least 6 times by this point and it NEVER disappoints (and I'm from the south so, that's saying something!) It's always so good. Coffee: I get a honey latte and the drinks here (as well as everything else other than the potatoes) seems to be super consistent. If you like it once, you'll like it again. So far I've only had a honey latte and the brisket burrito and I get that every time I come. It's worth it (trust the stranger telling you this) ATMOSPHERE: Sometimes it's a little tough to find seats because it's always busy. The staff is great. Give this one dude a raise! He's great! (The one in the pic) some outlets don't work (booo!) but it's okay. The only thing that seems to be a tad bit much is how loud the music is but if you have headphones it should be good. Sometimes the songs are a bop- other times they have cussing in them so, it shouldn't be much of an issue unless you have kids. But it's every now and then that I've heard songs like that.
