I had a Mint-Vanilla Au Lait (seasonal) and it was nice and drinkable. The mint was more of a scent than a flavor, so the iced beverage hit the spot on this hot summer morning! My mom ordered a latte and the coffee itself has a sour taste which I've heard from others too! It was a $7 latte and she ended up tossing it. All of their flavored syrups are the Monin brand so nothing homemade and very artificial tasting. I ordered a bagel and it was $5, and it came with a Jif PB packet and Smuckers jelly. I wish they would at least have homemade jam or a peanut butter that doesn't have terrible fillers and oil in its product. I then asked for cream cheese and it also came in a packet. The bagel ended up being hard after 20 minutes and I had to toss. The prices are so overpriced for the quality.

Food: They have a small menu, but it includes several items that would be among my first choices for breakfast or lunch. I was pleasantly surprised to find Avocado Toast. Their version was a bit more "exotic," with both pickled red onion AND pickled fennel. That was a first for me. The addition of a balsamic drizzle provided a nice balance. I got mine with a fried egg. They only offer the egg fried hard. My preference would have been a softer egg with at least a little runny yolk, but it was still very good as served. My wife got the Quinoa Bowl with chicken and guacamole. That was an amazing combination. The guacamole isn't made fresh on-site, I happened to see the package from Costco, but it was actually very good. Service: Lots of very nice people here. My understanding is that there are a few paid staff members, but the majority of the people working are volunteers. Everyone we met was genuinely friendly and helpful. Ordering was easy. After placing your order, you get a number, and they deliver the food to your table. Atmosphere: It's a nice space. There's a smaller area where you place your order, along with some small tables. An adjacent larger room has additional seating and bigger tables. Lots of windows provide plenty of natural light, and there are areas that work well for smaller groups. My understanding is that the larger space is also used for meetings and gatherings by different community groups. It's a great facility for a community that wants to nurture neighborly goodwill and social involvement. This is definitely a place I want to support. Maybe there's a future volunteer barista position for me! :)

The ivy climbing the side of the historic-looking building along the Milwaukee River fit the exact description I was looking for. Inside, the space is spacious and already decked out for fall. There seemed to be a mix of regulars who joked with the barista and newbies like me, but I still felt completely comfortable in this unique space. My go-to is a latte with almond milk and stevia, and the barista offered to steam the stevia with the milk. Such a small detail, but I loved it! The latte was beautifully crafted and even came with latte art. Since it was my first time, they suggested trying one of their fresh-baked daily goods. I went with the cranberry orange scone, which she said might still be warm ... and it was excellent. The sugar topping and zest in the glaze sound like they'd make it overly sweet, but it was just right. While sitting for just a short while I was extremely impressed with the customer service here, above and beyond!!! There were waves of busy and quiet at the counter throughout my visit, but overall, it was an awesome spot to slow down, enjoy a really good coffee and pastry, and take in the cozy fall atmosphere. I'm already looking forward to coming back soon.

I was already familiar with the other local coffee shop, and AM Coffee Roastery stood out as an intriguing option. Upon arrival, I was captivated by the partially ivy-covered building and the prominent cornerstone inscribed with the establishment's founding year, 1884. I ordered a cup of coffee, complemented by a jumbo Chocolate Chunk Cookie, each made in-house. Both were exceptional, leaving me eagerly anticipating my return visit.

I usually ask for it in a mug, but unfortunately they don't have mugs, so you get a paper cup. I asked for whole milk, a little lavender, and a little vanilla. After I got it and looked inside, I was seriously disappointed. It was pretty much a cup of hot milk with a tea bag floating at the top. It was hot and had reasonably good flavor (the bag was still steeping), but there wasn't much latte texture at all. I didn't even finish it. They have a nice selection of different bakery items, cakes, and cookies. I saw many people enjoying these, but I didn't get anything myself. Service: The folks taking the order were nice. They seemed to know lots of regulars who came in for beverages and food. Atmosphere: The place is super cute. It has an old-time feel to it, with a tin ceiling, wood floors, period lighting, and a cast-iron radiator. The roaster sits in the middle of the place, with a counter all around it for enjoying your drink. Other seating options are along the outside walls and near the front windows. As cute as it is, I'm not likely to stop back. It just doesn't offer a quality beverage that I would enjoy.

The café occupies one end of the building. I stopped in with a friend for an early lunch, and what a great surprise this turned out to be. Food: Their menu contains regular items as well as some R&D (Research and Development) selections. R&D items are not your typical flavor combinations and are great choices if you like trying different things. We got a couple of hot beverages. My friend ordered the hot chocolate, and I decided to try the special Carrot Cake Chai (with fresh carrots and spices). The hot chocolate was expertly made. It was rich, had excellent foam, and featured special latte art. The Carrot Cake Chai had strong flavor and a wonderful creamy texture. It was a bit sweet for my tastes (and I like sweet), and I didn't finish it. I talked to the barista, and they said they could easily adjust the sweetness level by using one less pump of the syrup. For food, I got the Wisco Avocado Toast, and my friend ordered the Devil Egg Salad Sandwich. My toast was good, with a generous amount of fresh avocado. The grape tomatoes were flavorful, but there was a bit too much of the chili crisp seasoning. The side salad was a small mix of lettuce with a few sliced radishes. My friend really enjoyed the egg salad. It was fresh, flavorful, had the right amount of mayo, and came in a good portion. Service: Super friendly service from the staff. I got a lot of helpful suggestions from the person taking the order, and the barista did an amazing job with the drinks. They give you a number and deliver your meal to your table. Food and drinks came out in a reasonable amount of time. Atmosphere: This place has a terrific layout. You can choose from several different seating areas. Some are set up for a quick meal, while others, like the upstairs area, feel more like a lounge. We sat in the back where there is a couch and several high-top tables. The place has an upscale yet casual feel to it. Before leaving, I picked up several of their sample packs of the most popular sauces: dark, white, and caramel. They will make great gifts for friends. I also had the Deviled Egg Salad Sando because I can never pass up deviled eggs when it's on the menu. The flavors were outstanding the bread held up well. If I had one critique, the should spread it out more so I get the salad and bread in every bite. As you can see, they lumped it all in the middle which left a ton of plain bread. The ambiance is nice but it does get pretty loud in there with all the people. Sound carries, so when the kiddos are loud it makes it feel that much louder. I can see this being a great place to grab a coffee and lunch while working (cause if you work from home it's nice to get out of the house every once in a while). Parking is plentiful and the service was quick and friendly. I highly recommend making this a spot you stop at when you are in the area.
