We were seated and had to wait a bit for our server to get to us. We ordered a 1/2 stick on onion rings and they were the best thing on the menu besides the amazing yeast rolls (served hot with cinnamon butter) Everyone raves about the salad but I personally need a little more dressing and less of the lettuce core. I got the steak chunks with onions (and a couple of mushroom slices) and garlic mashed potatoes. Our food came very quickly and was hot. My husband really liked the Mac and cheese as his side to his sirloin that was good but a little heavy on the seasoning for him. Worse service ever! We were seated quickly the place felt like a sauna we were so hot and thirsty we wanted something to drink about 15-20 minute later our waitress finally came took our drink order! Let me say they were NOT busy it was another 15 minutes before we got our ice teas they tasted so bad couldn't drink them! She finally came back we had to ask for rolls and salad! And yes took her 20 minutes to bring them out rolls were hot and good they were the only good thing! Our steaks we asks to be cooked medium they were burnt the baked potatoes tasted like they have been reheated and to top it off NO A-1Sauce what steak house runs out of that! My husband loved his burger. However, I had ordered boneless wings and since it does not come with anything, I had to order a side of sweet potato fries which the server stated that it would cost $3.00. We also had ordered strawberry lemonades. When I got the sweet potato fries it was in a very tiny plate and had only a 3-4 medium size and the rest was bits (very disappointing). When we got the the bill, we were charged for the strawberry syrup X4 which my husband only had 1 refill (we were never told that we had to pay for the syrup at all). We were also charged 5.99 for the fries. This was our first time at this location, and it was not a very good experience. Not sure if we will go back. read more

The rolls are phenomenal, the drinks perfect but the food wasn't as good as in the past. My husband ordered a 1 lb prime rib. He got maybe 12 oz of meat and 4 oz of fat. After some back and forth the manager discounted our bill down to the price of a 12 oz prime rib so we were satisfied. We would go back. read more

I like to wait until I've tried a place at least 3 times before I review it. I always factor in that a restaurant will occasionally have a bad (or good) night, so I like to make sure what my first impression is, is accurate. Cody's is solid, that's what I can say after about 5 visits now, but they do need a little work. I have yet to have a bad experience with the service at Cody's. Every server I have had has been enthusiastic, fun, and they have never goofed my (or my friends and family's) orders, so that's a huge plus. I love the bottomless salad with that terrific garlic-ranch dressing, it's always fresh and very tasty. It's hard not to fill up on that before the meal arrives. The bread is great and it rivals Texas Roadhouse's fantastic bread and butter. Cody's butter has a bit more cinnamon flavor, and they give you way more butter than TR does- I always end up asking for more there. The biggest issue I have had with Cody's, and this is five times now, is that they overcook any steak that is smaller than 20 oz. Out of the 5 visits, I've been with 3 other people 4 times, and just me and my wife once and every time, the "smaller" steaks were overcooked. One of my friends is a regular at Cody's and I was shocked when he ordered a 20 oz. Ribeye because he is in the process of losing some weight, but he said "Every time you order a smaller steak, it's overdone"- and I'll be damned, he is right. This time I ordered the 14 oz ribeye and mine was way overcooked- I asked for it medium rare and it was well done. Yuk. I ate about half of it, and frankly, I wish the server had asked if something was wrong with it. The first time we went to Cody's my friend's steak was overdone and Angel (our terrific server) practically pulled it off his fork, she remembered what he had ordered and she saw it was not cooked correctly and insisted on replacing it. My friend was very impressed and pleased with Angel, she really cares about her customers. If Cody's really wants to be a steakhouse, they REALLY need to concentrate on cooking the steaks to the correct temperature. They are so close to being a great restaurant in my opinion. read more

Cody's is located in the Port Charlotte mall, spacious. Standard booths and tables, friendly staff. Full bar service. This spot is a hit or miss spot. The burgers and fries are very good but beware of the high end dishes like steaks, IMO they are very disappointing in quality and preparation. Went my first time for early bird menu and happy hour and figured it would be a smaller portion but I was wrong! Large meat portions and sides. Christy was our waitress and she was fantastic, Personable and very knowledgeable about food and recommendations. The decor was old wood garage style with lots of memorabilia and several tv screens to watch a game from any angle. We got there around 3:15 on a Thursday but by 4:00 it was already filling up! Happy hour offered 2 for 1 drafts and large margaritas which we should have shared but will next time! The salad came in a big bowl and was plentiful. We ordered the onion ring stack appetizer which were large and made to order with a horseradish sauce. Very good!! Needless to say most of it went home with us! I had the fish of the day which was lightly battered and fried perfectly. My date had chicken fried chicken which was tender and juicy chicken breast smothered in white gravy! My wife and I have been to Cody's many times. Our most recent was St. Patrick's Day 3/17/26, .We feel very fortunate that each time we go, the service, the food and atmosphere has been exceptional. They did a great job with the Corned Beef and Cabbage dinner which is not a regular menu item. We think the steaks and ribs are some of the best. They included the all you can eat salad(served family style) and hot rolls & butter. The atmosphere is very casual. Sorry to hear not everyone that has gone has had the same experiences. Steaks overdone. Not just three of our large parties (11) steaks, but also an adjacent table made similar complaints. One in our party had a ribeye, the others the porterhouse and top sirloin. After sending one over-well done steak (medium requested) the replacement was medium-well on the filet side and well on the strip side. Aging technique also left me with a very underwhelming flavor profile. There is more I could add, but poorly done steaks at a steakhouse already speaks volumes. We have been turned away at 8:30 and later even though their posted hours state open till 10PM. Excuse given is that business is slow. Our meal started off, waiting for a waitress. The restaurant front staff was not busy on a Thursday afternoon at 5. Then our silverware was delivered dirty with residue and food particles dried to the utensils. . After ordering the waitress vanished. The strip steak meal was delivered with cold baked potatoes which were promptly replaced. However the steak was so tough that you needed a saw blade, not a knife to cut it. We were hungry and it was about 8 o'clock at night and we finally got to get some food here at Cody's roadhouse. We waited probably 2025 minutes even though it was not that crowded. The waitress finally came by. She did smell like cigarettes smoke even though she was really nice, but she kept disappearing throughout the Time we were there and went outside and smoked. Every time she came back, she still smelled like smoked. Anyway we got rolls and they were pretty good. We got an endless salad and it was OK. I got the sirloin special for a Thursday evening and it was a 10 ounce sirloin for 1499. It was overcookedand the potato was really good though. Overall, this was just an OK. Dining experience. We frequently go to Cody's for dinner. Today we were waited on by Brittany. She checked in on us a good amount and I judge service on if they pay attention when we need something like my soda being close to empty. She brought me one on time, so she was paying attention, and she asked my wife if she needed more to drink. Mark came to talk to us and told us about a review where the person said basically, he was better looking than her sons. Well, I actually thought about that when we left and thought what do her sons look like. Now I'm not saying Mark isn't good looking, but he isn't Fabio either. We'll be back again of course. We decided to have dinner at Cody's and my husband ordered prime rib. Well, the waitress told us they were out of prime rib, porterhouse and filet mignon. We've been there several times and they are always out of something whether it's the special or dessert. The manager Mark came by our table and we had the discussion regarding the restaurant running out of certain items and he told us it's very common for them to run out of steaks. So, my husband ordered chicken tenders with honey mustard dressing: they were out of honey mustard. Who does that? The manager told us it happens all the time and if we call him ahead of time, he will "save" us a steak. Seriously? Why didn't he offer us dessert or something as an option to make sure we come back? To start off I think our waitress was having a bad day, very curt with her answers to our questions. Only saw her to take our orders and give us our bill. Ordered the baby back ribs, they came out burnt. Why would the cook ever send something like that out in the first place. Got hold of the floor manager and he said why didn't you tell the waitress, (the one who never showed up except to bring our bill). I said, why did the cook ever let the ribs out of the kitchen in the first place. He just shrugged his shoulders and left. I do have to say he took the ribs off the bill. Yuck. Steak fajitas here. Onions and peppers were decent but I'm still chewing the "steak " as I type this. I guess if you think steak flavored bumble gum seems like a good idea, order the fajitas. My dad, who eats Campbell's cream of mushroom soup out of a can at room temp (gross!) ordered the 9 ounce fillet and couldn't finish it. The beer was cold and the peanuts were good and our waitress, Lynda, was pleasant and accommodating. We didn't complain, we just paid tab, thanked waitress and vowed to never be back.. 4.5 stars for Cody's. You totally get what your money's worth here! Humongous portions from apps, to salad, to entrees. From our experience on Sunday afternoon, the meal is worth the wait for an available table. We were almost deterred by the bad reviews, but so glad we stopped in! Our order: - Cody's Wings (buffalo, hot, cooked well done) free appetizer with email signup - 2 Yuengling pints (2-for-1 on happy hour, all day) - Southwest chicken entrée (with sweet potato & bottomless salad) - Chicken quesadilla Okay, the wings! They were large, tasty, cooked perfectly. 10 wings in the appetizer portion and so much better than WingHouse. We honestly could have ordered the wings and the bottomless salad for a very filling lunch. Took the quesadilla and southwest chicken entrees home. The southwest chicken was 2 meals in itself. It is one huge chicken breast, baked with bbq sauce, bacon, cheese, and pico de gallo on top. The atmosphere is somewhat similar to a Texas Roadhouse (yes, they serve peanuts and yeast rolls w/ cinnamon butter), but you can definitely tell this restaurant is locally-owned.
