As an update to our pool saga in reserve timeline, I hope to do another final rebuild update in a few months. At this time: - Potentially now working with Cody through a NDA to rebuild our pool that has been empty for the year. Not optimal agreement and we'll have damage but understand the position CP is in also. - Our pool leaked out for good finally, 1+ feet water in 1/2 a day, flooded things but had to drain it since it has ASR bad likely - ASR was confirmed on our pool through core samples/etc. We had to pay to prove this and take some legal action but at least we kept things moving. - Cody Pools did let us know in early 2024 that we likely had ASR like many pools out there. Huge issue in Texas, not necessarily just their issue of course everyone knows by now. - We had leaking/cracks in walls since late 2022, just after our pool was live from around April 2022, never could remove them, know why now likely. - Our first pool build took ~16 months, longer than our entire house which was a bad experience. Hopefully that our rebuild with CP goes MUCH faster as should contractually and with a new team I hear great things about. We purchased our pool in 2008 from Cody Pools. Why a review after so many years you might ask? First, the pool has withstood the test of time. we have had very few maintenance issues and we still get compliments on our pool and backyard. When we made the decision to purchase from Cody one factor we considered was the strength of the business. We asked ourselves, "will Cody be around if something goes wrong" and "does Cody have the financial strength to honor a warranty"? We decided they were the most stable and it was worth a little extra money to go with Cody because we had more confidence in their staying power due to reputation and years in business. This was around the '08 financial crises and many companies were on shaky ground at that time. After 17 years we needed Cody's help. The pool was fine, but they had not closed a permit. This oversight by their plumber was holding up a new project permit at our house. We contacted Cody for help and within 2 days they had a their master plumber out to our house to inspect the work done 17 years ago. They negotiated with the city to reopen the permit, get an inspector to our house and close the permit so our new project could proceed. Mistakes happen, but how Cody responded to is in our moment of need was great. This could have easily become a huge headache for us if Cody was not here to fix the mistake. They immediately took responsibility and worked fast to fix it. This is why we try to choose reputable companies with a track record and history of good service! read more

Everything was great with our pool until we noticed a crack in the inside shell with a leak, they made us prove that this crack, indeed was a leaking Pool even though you could clearly see the crack with the water leaking. Eventually they finally came and tried to make a repair in two different places. Unfortunately, they poured acid on the repairs Which made a puddle of acid form at the bottom of the pool where they proceeded to walk in the acid and walked all over our pool completely destroying the expensive pebble tech. We have lost hundreds of pounds of pebble Tech and it is still falling off ever since the repair that never worked. We contacted Cody and told them what was happening and we are still waiting to hear back. The same leak started again and they aren't gonna do anything about it, and other noticeable cracks have appeared which they won't even look at. Now the decking That connects to the pool is sinking, causing our Polaris pump pipe to crack and break. We have to dig up the pool deck to repair the pipe from the incorrectly installed Cody pool deck. read more

My new deck and garden builder in march is completed damage. We need to replace part of the composed deck. All the gravel and landscaping lights do not work. We contracted on our pool in December 2020. It's now May 2021 and all we have is a dug hole with cement in it...it's been 2 months since anyone has come to do any work on it. I was promised as a cash paying client that my pool would be done in no more than 4 moths. We're at month 6 and I don't see this getting done any time soon. 1. All of the work is subcontracted out and they are WAY WAY behind. It feels like there is only one mason for all of the Austin area with them. 2. They have NO system for keeping clients up to date on the progress, what's coming next, why there are delays, what that means for us, etc. Seriously Cody, hire someone to do this and help keep your clients happy! 3. Pool contractor is over worked to the max and has to take all complaints and do all updates...when client calls. I have texted the contractor and the sales rep that sold us the pool every week, sometimes every day. It doesn't make any difference. They make promises they can't keep, they need to hire someone to update clients, and they need to hire more subcontractors for their work or PAY THEM MORE. My summer 2021 dreams are fading before my eyes and there doesn't seem to be a dang thing I can do about it! read more

We signed a contract with Cody Pools in August of 2022. They began our construction in March of 2023. Our assigned job superintendent Jeff McKenzie was the most rude, condescending, negligent, and ABSENT employee who minimized our concerns, ran roughshod with his own ideas even over our objections, explained away the mistakes his subs made, attempted to not build the bar top we had paid for, told me to not "cry over spilt milk" after his subs failed to follow the plan and trenched across an oak tree, tried convincing us that our new filter leaning at a 45 degree angle due to a crooked concrete slab they poured was a-ok, then utterly cratered the job by bringing in unapproved masons from a side company he owned in Houston to do our coping and waterfall. We removed him from our property and our job and he was inevitably fired from Cody Pools. This led to a lengthy delay in which Ryan Curbow replaced him. Ryan worked hard to complete our job and it was ONLY his cooperation that prevented us from lawyering up on Cody. We still can't stand the awful waterfall they left us with and their subcontractors destroyed our existing concrete walkways, but our pool is otherwise beautiful and so far shows none of the problems that many other Texans are having with recent builds. We hope it holds out and doesn't crack like so many others have. We would not recommend Cody Pools. Even if you are at home 24/7 to supervise the work as we were, we feel they will push substandard work at every angle possible if they think they can pull it off. read more

We have one of those pools build on the side of our hill and unfortunately we got a crack that was leaking along the interior bench. It took quite the effort for them to honor their warranty, but they did fix it. The patch job looks terrible. The greatest problem is our pebble tech surface has been deteriorating ever since they made the repair. I'm not sure what they did, but I've contacted Cody warranty a few times and it's been crickets. We had no issues at all with our pebble tech until they fixed the crack. So now the surface looks horrible and we will likely need to spent a fortune re-surfacing it unless Cody steps up and honors their warranty. They seem swamped and that concerns me. I've referred them to several people and now wish I hadn't. read more

On November 15, 2021, we signed the contract for our new pool, with an expected completion date of May 2022. After a parade of delays, we were able to finally fill the pool in late August. Along the way, they did not purchase the waterline tile we selected, which went out of stock. We had to choose a different tile. Then, there were (and still are) issues with the plumbing. They ended up running the auto fill and overflow pipes above ground along our fireplace and walkway. In addition, they switched the lines for those two features. They also set the fill/overflow system at the wrong elevation. Their repair did not solve the problem, and to this day, the concrete patch is ugly and they never fixed the deck coating. If we use the "over flow", the pool drains to such a low level that the pool skimmers will not function. The auto fill has never functioned. One of the pool lights has never worked and we get no answer regarding the fix. In addition, their drawings show a gate screening the pool equipment, but they insist it isn't part of their scope. We re-fill the pool with a garden hose and just let it overflow when it rains. At this point they have completely ghosted us. read more

Nice design and pool at a decent price but could have built it myself. Cody subcontracts everything with one stretched out superintendent who's overwhelmed. We ultimately had to do our own quality control and examples were poor backfill of piping, forgot to run water supply line, turned off power to AC pump and flooded house then wouldn't help clean it up. Told us 3 months tops and it took 7 months. Just called warranty department and left VM because pool lights don' work and my electrician said its n the pool wiring. Just remembered Cody forgot to pull an electrical permit too! The list goes on..... read more

I hired Cody Pools to remodel my pool and install all new equipment. My pool functioned properly prior to Cody Pools touching it. The remodel was a nightmare. The superintendent, Josh, has had an attitude since the beginning. At one point Josh got in my face and yelled at me in front of my general contractor. My contractor was appalled at the way he spoke to me. I've been in construction for over 30 years and never had anyone speak to me that way. They installed the wrong color coping and it had to be ripped out and replaced and the equipment has never worked properly. I have gone round and round with the warranty department and my equipment is still not working properly. Every morning the jacuzzi is drained and when the equipment starts up it sounds horrible and I'm sure having to refill the jacuzzi is putting a huge amount of stress on the pump. I bet if the pump goes out they will be happy to give me a price to replace it. I cannot recommend Cody Pools. read more

I worked with Steve on the sales side and he was great. We went through several design phases, a redesign due to the City of Austin right-of-way and he was great through it all. I was initially happy because they were fairly efficient in building the pool but I found out recently that plumbing was not done to code and after four years the coping is falling apart and there is a crack on the concrete deck. Beware of the zero hold-back. Cody does not finish their work. I objected to this at the time of contracting our design, but shame on me--I relented. Construction was relatively smooth up to the point when I wrote the last check in January, 8 months ago. Since then it's been a miserable experience. There were 12 items on our punch list, all agreed to in February, but even with repeated calls we got no followup until I threatened to post a review like this in May. They did some of the work, but we still have not passed electrical inspection with the city. I can't get a call back from our Construction Superintendent without escalating to his boss. Then I get promises to finish that are not followed up. I am exhausted, hence this review. Maybe it will get their attention. If not, I hope you won't repeat my mistake. One last piece of advice: Don't fall for the advertising. There are plenty of qualified pool builders out there. Find one that will write a contract that ensures mutual interest in building the pool to your specs and finishing the work. All of Cody's advertising bluster of being the #1 pool builder references ratings from organizations to which they pay for membership. These ratings have no support from customer inputs. I tried to register my experience with both APSP and PSN. Neither takes inputs from customers. read more

We had a pool built through Cody Pools in the end of 2017. We immediately realized our pool deck was very slick and we told our contractor. The concrete company came out and spread some sand on the surface and then sealed it with an even slicker sealant. We repeated the process with calling the contractor and they came and did the SAME exact thing. We called back again and we have not heard anything since then. I have been putting down rugs and towels so no one falls. It is literally as slick as an ice skating rink!! I guess after they got all of their money they left us. We have had several guest fall, fortunately they did not get seriously hurt. However, if it isn't fixed it's a matter of time before a serious injury happens. I am going to consult with my attorneys this week and pursue legal action because I have no other options. Do not use this company!! A pool is a very expensive investment and we should be able to use it and enjoy it without the stress and worry of someone falling.Shame on you Cody pools, you talked a big talk in the beginning about "being there way after the pool was finished" etc etc. We will not recommend your company to anyone who ask us for our opinion or advice for their future pool. read more

I am in the middle of a pool project with Cody pools right now and would not recommend them. They were the highest bid by far but you justify it by "you get what you pay for". I know there will always be issues and we went into it fully expecting that we would have our share. I won't go into all of the ups and downs but I certainly was not prepared for a 3 1/2 week delay because they built the spa too small so had to demo that part of the pool/spa and start over. My family was looking forward to at least being able to use the pool for the tail end of the season but no chance of that now. The bigger issue is that we are tired of living in a construction zone; our neighbors are tired of our yard being totally destroyed; our dog not being able to go in the backyard; etc; etc. Cody talks a big game about their higher quality standards, more professional service, etc, I don't see any evidence of that. At the end of the day, they still have sub-contractors that do shoddy plumbing work, gunite crews that get backed up and don't show, crews that sit on your porch smoking cigarettes, etc, etc. If they don't manage those crews and set higher expectations then it really doesn't matter how good they tell you they are. I will update my post upon completion but at this point I can say that if I had to start over today I would definitely not use Cody Pools. 9/30/2014 Update - I was out of town for a full 7 days and nothing was worked on. Before I left I pointed out that there was supposed to be a two foot thick wall where there was only a 6 inch gap. No progress on that issue or any of the rest of the project for 9 days. Today they finally sent a crew out to cut the plumbing connections and patch the pipes up. This is the second time they have cut these pipes and patched them up. I'm concerned at this point about of the plumbing job. My latest experience is just further evidence of my points made previously. 2/10/2018 Update - As expressed in my 9/30/2014 update expressing concerns about future issues, I can confirm that my concerns were justified. We are losing about 4 inches of water every 5 to 6 days in the pool. This would be a lot during the summer time but there is no way it would lose that much during the winter unless there was a leak somewhere. Cody tells us that we are basically on our own to hire a leak detection company. If it happens to be a leak in the gunite then they will repair it. Otherwise it's not their problem. I feel totally swindled by this company. They were by far the most expensive option we looked at but you justify it by saying "you get what you pay for". Fortunately I was able to warn some of my neighbors not to use them for their pool projects. I will continue to warn everyone I can. read more

We viewed and selected materials after visiting both the Western Travis County and North Austin locations of Cody Pools. The staff were courteous and professional. The Cody Pools construction team are diligent workers. Turns out, pool construction involves many elements and phases. Cody Pools moved very efficiently and kept us very well informed. I stopped by the office today and it was locked and then I saw someone inside and he came to the door and said what do you want. I said I am interested in a quote on a pool and he said you have to have an appointment. I said okay, can I get your card and he went and got a card and said nothing. Then I said are you interested in quoting me on a pool and he said he was swamped and did not have time to talk to me. I said no worries and left. He was not rude but he sure as heck did not even attempt to get my name or any information from me. That tells me I should never ever do any business with Cody Pools in Bee Cave and Karl Cramer the designer who did not give me the time of day or any inclination that I was a potential customer that could spend a lot of money with Cody Pools. Codys contacted me to "make things right", so I entertained them. 1. They sent a surface specialist to review the brown stains in the pool and he told me that it was from iron on my water used for the refill. I have my well water analyzed already three times since we moved into our 2016 new build and we have no iron in our water. 2. As for the Oklahoma stone coping, the technician told me this is not a good stone to use around the pool as it will sluff off always contrary to what Cody salesperson told us. We will have to eventually replace the coping. 3. They sent technicians out to unclog the auto overflow system but he was going to show me how to do it myself in the future as this falls out of my warranty according to the rep. Well the guy completed the repair but no one contacted me to be home to receive that inservice from him. I guess I have to figure this out myself in the future. 4. Finally, the customer rep requested me to provide him our repair bills for the flower boxes so Codys would consider refunding us for the shotty masonry of the five flower boxes. I sent Codys the info on what we paid to get the flower boxes reinforced but received instantly a negative response from Codys: They would not pay for any repairs made even though they were responsible for the poor workmanship. In fact, the response I received was so pointed and quick to their position of refusal that it appeared to be a standard rejection notice I am certain Codys is well versed at delivering. We paid over $90,000 for this headache and Codys treats us like we ordered a $30 KMart kiddie pool from them and had them drop it on our front lawn. Review will remain at a one star as it is a good looking pool but now we regret having installed a Codys pool. read more

They promised swimming within 4 months and we are now a year later and still having to call repeatedly, day after day after day, week after week, to try to get them to finish the work. At one point the manager of the project hadn't even been with the company for several weeks and nobody even thought to reach out to let us know let alone get a new manager assigned to the job which was already months behind schedule.
