The Codornices team has been our trusted partner for our critters health, from new kitten adoption to senior cats at end of life. Our vet Dr. Gurley and the supporting staff are gentle, calming people and excellent communicators. At last visit, our current cat started purring during an exam, much to everyone's amazement. And this is a cat who typically hides whenever anyone except family enters a room. read more

This is a review of AmeriVet Veterinary Partners, not of the front desk, tech, or veterinary staff of Codornices Clinic, who have cared for my animals for years and who all deserve 5 stars. Codornices Clinic is owned by AmeriVet Veterinary Partners, a privately held, private equity backed corporation located in San Antonio, Tx. Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, AEA Investors, and Golub Capital are a few of the investors in AmeriVet Veterinary Partners. They do not care one iota about your pet or you. Private equity firms are targeting veterinary practices because of the opportunities for big profits from a growing and emotionally driven industry. AmeriVet has recently brought changes to Codornices, and they will cost you time and money. Prescriptions can no longer be quickly, easily and cheaply filled by the online pharmacy of your choice. In order to compel pet owners to use the on-site pharmacy (at more than 4x the cost) they require that you pick up a signed original prescription which then must be FedEx'd by you to the online pharmacy - further delaying the treatment of your animal. The relatively low cost on-line pharmacy directly associated with the clinic is - surprise! - out of stock of whatever medication you need. In addition, they have tacked on a new 2.8% (!!!) charge for payment with a credit card. PBS New Hour reported on the Private Equity - Veterinary practice problem: https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/as-veterinary-costs-climb-private-equity-ownership-of-clinics-draws-scrutiny Stephen Dubner and other economists have done a number of podcasts discussing how private equity has taken over ownership of many vet practices ("Do you know who owns your Vet" 1/25/2023 Freakonomics podcast). https://privateequityvet.org/ can tell you which practices are owned by whom. Please let Codornices know you do not appreciate the changes implemented by their private equity owners. read more

The front desk receptionist was nice, and Dr. Wu was nice and knowledgeable. Unfortunately, the service was very expensive (at least for me). I recommend doing your due diligence and understanding the pricing beforehand. When you're worried about your pet, you just want them to be okay and do whatever you think is best, so it's easy to agree to services right away. In my case, I also didn't do enough research, and my ignorance led me to overspend. I can't blame anyone but myself. read more

This has to be one of the top veterinary practices in the east bay. It is well run with very competent veterinarians. In particular to me, they have little problem handling cats who are less than cooperative. read more

How can it be that the front desk staff are not able to state upfront the cost of regularly scheduled vaccinations? This makes no sense, yet this is the party line here. Just one example of an experience that is unnecessarily frustrating. read more

Ridiculously expensive. They charged me $500 for X-rays of my dogs chest. He has a super kind, mild demeanor. This should be a crime.

Impossible to schedule an appointment; the last time I called I complained that i received several email reminders for a due vaccination but when I called they had nothing available, and as a response they hang up on me. read more

Absurdly expensive with rude and dismissive staff who literally put their own comfort before that of your animal. They took my mellow, elderly cat in the back for annual vaccination and brought him back early, having given just one shot out of two planned. They told me that he was putting their technicians in danger of being bitten and that we would have to tranquilize him before bringing him back for a second appointment, now booking one month out. This mellow, old cat has never needed to be tranquilized for anything. Who knows what they were doing to him in the back, but if he was indeed snarling at them it had to be pretty extreme. When we questioned this, the ill-tempered and brusque manager replied, 'if you want him treated here he will have to have this Gabapentin first.' As the cat has never had this kind of medication, we are reluctant to give it to him without a major cause. The other vets we have now taken him to treat him in front of us, none of this backroom secrecy stuff where he doesn't have us consoling him, and no one has ever insisted, before or since, on giving him Gabapentin or any other medication before a simple vaccination visit. Not recommended due to poor customer service attitude and concern about why or how they could possibly stress out such a gentle cat to the extent that an appointment, in the backroom and unseen, would have to be aborted. read more

Dr. Lee, Dr. Grant, and Dr. Gurley all took fabulous care of my cat Pigeon throughout her life. They always listened, answered all my questions, and offered solutions that fit our goals and budget. The front desk staff are some of the best I've ever encountered at a veterinary practice. I highly recommend this practice. read more

Untrue, inaccurate and defensive. And I'll prove it I did not sign nor approve the visit to see Dr Gurly before the dentist I called and told them my cat needed teeth out You all chose a multiple step process milking it each way which meant I had a completely unnecessary visit with Dr Gurly And you never called me to ok the second tooth I also spoke with a woman next to me who was charged 800 fir four teeth and you all OVERCHARGED me for two teeth I paid 2700 dollars bc of all your milking it fees and visits Furthermore it was not the timing of Dr Gurleys call Re read my feedback it is Dr Gurleys dis respectful inability to listen and hear feedback Her inability to even look up a basic record Her disclosing of other clients names which is illegal and unethical And her mistreatment of me yes based on gender and sexual orientation Dr Gurley has a lot to learn about customer service AVOID AVOID AVOID They OVER CHARGE YOU watch out LGBT haters read more

So extremely disappointed with this vet! My dog was dying and I called right when they opened at 8am to schedule an appointment and couldn't get through then not even 5 minutes later got a person and waited on the phone for 12min only to find out they couldn't fit me in. Asked about the next day and they said you'll have to call again at 8am. No compassion or sympathy for my dog's status and referred me to a place in Lafayette. Thanks for making this difficult day even more stressful and traumatic! read more

Because Dr. Grant was often booked up, we've been making appointments with Dr. Lie (pronounced Lee). I absolutely love Dr. Lie; he is always patient and good-humored with my copious questions and always gives our fur baby the best care. read more

My dogs and cats have been patients of Codornices for several decades, starting with Dr. Richard Hack. We now see Drs. Erica Gurley, David Grant and Regina Yoo. They take care of and give advice on the various veterinary issues that have come up as if my fur babies were their own, I trust them implicitly. They have referred me out to specialists when needed but they do as much as they can in house. I'm very grateful for the docs and supports folk at Codornices. read more

I wanted to make an appointment with Dr Grant as a new patient. I filled out the new patient forms and had all my pets documents transferred from his current vet. I scheduled an appointment about 3 MONTHS out which is totally ridiculous. I was ok with it because it was for a dental cleaning and was not urgent. About two weeks after I made the appointment met they called me to change not only the time of the appointment but the vet my little guy would be seeing as well. What is the point of requesting a certain vet to see my pet if they play games like these? When this happened I was done with them. read more

My pup was licking his paw and it looked swollen so I called Codornices, which I've been visiting since last year. They immediately took him in as an emergency patient without giving me any details. Being a new pet owner I went ahead and said OK to everything i just want my boy feel better. The vet found one foxtail and a bill of $550 - which is fine that's what the insurance is for. One day later, his paw became very bloody and it looked 100 times worse than before - so I called them back and they just asked me to drop him off. No details, no explanation, no communication. I was waiting outside for 20 mins. and when i called back they said "Oh you can go home and wait for our call". When they called me to pick him up we got another bill for $450. They didn't find anything and just drained the abscess. Horrible bedside manner and no communication. That's a total of $1000 in 3 days. I called back the next day requesting reasons for the second visit charges and asked why they charged me everything again. The manager said "you probably don't like the answer" and gave me a story he encountered 15 yrs ago and said that is normal. His response had nothing to do with why they charged me everything double, including another foxtail procedure with no foxtail found. The reason I went back because they made it worse. They only drained the abscess, which caused by first visit, and said that he'll need a stronger antibiotic. A few days later, his paw was still swelling and i sent a few pics to them and they said it's normal and asked me to pick up some more antibiotics if i'm worried. Keep in mind they gave him two different antibiotic and said the first one wasn't correct. At this point, I am disgusted. I did not believe his paw was normal because it didn't look normal. So I took him to another vet, who actually showed compassion with good bedside manner. Explained in detail to us about foxtails and what to expect. They didn't even use anesthesia and guess what? they found another foxtail. And the best part was he came happy. He always looked miserable leaving Codornices. I'm not sure how this place gets 4 stars. But thanks for your shitty attitude and service my dog had to suffer for one month. read more

Dr. Grant and everyone who works here has been caring for our dog for the past 6 years, and we appreciate that they're all so professional and so kind. Dr. Grant recently performed surgery to remove our dog's eye, and we couldn't be more pleased with his skill. Our dog is not disfigured at all; he's healthy and well now, and still so handsome. read more

This used to be the veterinary practice I used for several years until I found out the vets work 3 DAY A WEEK! I'm all for a good work / life balance when a business figures that out so the workers and clients all get their needs met. While the workers are all pleasant - the only way they get two stars, the schedule is terrible. I took my sick cat in on a Wednesday. Tests were preformed. I called on Thursday to get the results. I was told the vet would call me back on MONDAY! As my cat was sick- why I took her to the vet in the first place, I wanted treatment in a timely manner. They had the results and no other vet could give me the results or medicine needed!!!! I am shocked a business is run this way. They are denying pets care because they can't have another vet look over the results and prescribe medicine. They charge retail prices for stripped down service. Obviously, they are no longer my vet. read more

Because of the pandemic, my puppy & I waited 7 months for a "new client" appointment at Codornices. Long before our first app't, Eric, their practice manager, went out of his way to be helpful via email, guiding me to a terrific trainer, a groomer, & eventually daycare -- providing thoughtful and compassionate customer service when I wasn't even yet a customer. When our interim vet facility forwarded my pup's vaccination records, Eric promptly caught and contacted them about a mistake they'd made and not noticed (in not giving a 2nd necessary f/u vac). This level of attentiveness & clinical responsibility is exactly what I'd hope for in a team entrusted with my dog's care and I'm so happy to have found it at Codornices. Drs. Gurley and Grant were wonderful in helping me think through the best options for a minimally invasive approach to my dog's surgery. Both took considerable time responding to my many questions, and it was clear to me that their priority throughout was my puppy's and my best interest and not their clinic's bottom-line. I'm incredibly grateful to have found vets and a clinic staff I can wholeheartedly trust. Very highest recommendation! read more

Codornices Veterinary Clinic - Fauci, who loves Codornices too! - Veterinarians Near Me - Albany, California

We did not have any bad experiences here until we specifically requested that our puppies only receive core vaccines and explicitly stated which vaccines we do not want administered. All of this is documented in an email that was sent from the office itself. However, on the day of the appointment, our puppies still received the vaccines we explicitly mentioned not to administer even after we reminded them that we do not want our puppies to receive those vaccines. After speaking with the front office, the employee mentioned that there's nothing they can do and that she would have to ask the doctor why the vaccines were given. read more

I started going to Codornices shortly after Dr. Richard Hack opened the clinic decades ago. Never once did I have a bad experience. Dr. Hack was the absolute best veterinarian and human being, and his staff was very caring. Earlier this year, my little old dog was diagnosed with cancer and died unexpectedly at home. I contacted the clinic about bringing him in for cremation and that's when the trouble began. To make a long story short, the office staff was so rude and totally lacking in any empathy whatsoever. I felt traumatized by the whole experience of holding the body of my dead dog in my arms as staff treated me like I was bothering them. It was so surreal. My other dog now goes to a different vet clinic because of what happened at Codornices. Sorry to say, but the clinic reputation that Dr. Hack built is gone. I have hand written sympathy cards from him regarding dogs I had euthanized over the years by him. This kind of expression to clients is sadly a thing of the past. read more

We just switched our dog to Codornices, after a year with a vet clinic that was a part of a big franchise. I am so happy we made that change. Codornices, and Dr. Grant, we kind, knowledgeable, communicated well, and took the time to address all our concerns during our exam. The quality of care here is worlds beyond what these franchise vets can offer, and you don't have to worry about being charged for fees and procedures that your pet doesn't need. read more

Codornices is very well-established and popular, and we like Dr. Grant in particular, but they absolutely can't be relied upon in case of any crisis, including sudden illness. Appointments tend to be weeks-out and they just refer you elsewhere. What good is it to have a "regular" vet who knows your pet, if you can't see them in crisis? read more

Actually, I am giving 10 stars. Five stars for this veterinary clinic. And five stars for one of their employees. I switched to Codornices veterinary clinic and could not be happier. They are skilled, responsive, compassionate, caring. My dog has never received such excellent care! I also write to give five stars to Ariel, their customer service representative. Ariel provides the best customer service ever. She is value added to Codornices veterinary clinic and sets the gold star standard bar. Ariel goes above and beyond in so many ways. For example, figured out how to get the needed anxiety medication for the Fourth of July fireworks. This was a new rescue dog, and the need was unanticipated. Highly recommended. read more

I brought my rescue dog to Codornices Vet 12 years ago, because he was extremely frightened of all other vets he had seen. At first he was very shy, but the kindness and gentleness and patience he was shown here changed all of that. He relaxed and eventually, because of Dr. Gurley, grew to like the vet. Over the years he was kept healthy and happy. When he started having age related problems he continued to thrive because of Dr. Gurley. Finally he started to deteriorate, and he was treated with dignity and respect. The entire staff treated him like family. They were very caring and sympathetic when he was fading away. They always strived to do the best for him and me. I will always be grateful to them for the care they showed my sweet boy. Any one who feels they are not the absolutely best vet really should remember they are all about your pet, not you. read more

We took our 10 month old terrier mix to see Dr. Grant at Codornices Vet. and we were very pleased. It was his first well checkup and Dr. Grant spent a very long time with us , answering all of our questions. He is not only knowledgeable, but he is also very kind and caring. The staff was also very kind and professional. I would highly recommend this vet. clinic. read more

Most underwhelming visit I have ever had. Long wait Funky crowded loud waiting room Harrired staff Dr Olson was scattered, no eye contact, poor communicator, whilsked cat to back, never looked at her to establish rapport with either of us first. Paid over $300 Pissed. When she called to give me lab results I have her feed back in a kindly manner. She was not receptive to hearing what I had to say at all. I will never go back there again read more

I've been bringing my cat to Codornices for 10 years and she made it to a ripe old age of 20! I attribute it in part to the thoughtful care of the clinic. They were always willing to make suggestions for care, but were very respectful of our wishes for a low-intervention approach. Previous to this clinic, my cat had been terrified (to the point of attack) of the vet, but she was more comfortable at Codornices and they never had trouble administering care there. When it was finally her time to go, a very thoughtful and kind vet came to our house to give her a respectful and comfortable end. I am very grateful for their lifelong care of my cat. read more

Been bringing my dogs here for the past 3 years .... and probably will continue to do so for as long as they both shall live. Dr. Yoo, Grant and Hack are all amazing. Between my 2 dogs, I've visited all 3 doctors for check-ups, surgeries and emergencies. When my dogs got neutered, I received personal phone calls from Dr. Hack informing me that the surgery went well and my dogs were recovering. How's that for service!? Note - if you're ordering from 1-800 Pet Meds, you'll have to get the prescription and mail it in to Pet Meds. Codornices won't release the prescription to them directly. Also, the receptionists / nurses are all super friendly - but on many occasions I've had to wait for over 10+ minutes on the phone when calling in for info. (I know this because I have timers on my phones!!). It does bug me that they never seem to apologize for having kept me waiting for so long .... read more

The staff oohed and ahhhed my Bebe for his cute looks and treated him like he was their own pet. I like that. Everyone there was super friendly and have excellent customer service skills! Dr. Yoo was honest, down to earth and very knowledgeable. Since my Bebe is blind on one eye, I asked if it was necessary to bring him to an eye specialist for his gooky eyes. She told me that it's allergies and that they would tell me the exact same thing, a eye specialist was not necessary. That made me feel good because I always thought he didn't need to see an expensive specialist for eye ointment prescription. Dr. Yoo prescribed it to me for Bebe. Bebe also had a bad ear infection and she gently carried him into the back to clean his ear out. Then one of the staff carried him back out and handed him over to me. She told me he was a sweet dog. I was gleeming! I really like it here and I think I've found my forever veterinary clinic! The prices are comparable to other vets. Might as well have the better service for the same price! read more

I've been taking my dog(s) here for the last 4 years. The office staff are always pleasant and helpful, especially the gentleman with the arm tattoos. As for the vets it epends who you get. At first I had an older lady vet and wasn't very impressed with her. To sum things up she was into inductive reasoning. So I took a chance on another Vet, Dr. Grant. Dr. Grant has been great! I'd say he employs deductive reasoning and is highly accurate. My pups have been seeing him for the last 3 years and only him. read more

My 11 yo dog has been treated by Cordornices his whole life and their care has been loving, kind and affordable. Front desk staff has been consistent for all 11 years, as well as some techs and vets, which I think says a lot about a place and their values. They have always been kind, patient and caring and often do things that I feel are above and beyond my expectations. We see (and LOVE!) Dr. Gurley these days, but have also had good visits with Dr. Bentley and Dr. Grant. Nice people who love pets!! read more

After 15 years I recently had to say goodbye to my dog Jezzie. She was a difficult animal but I loved her to pieces. Since moving to the area 7 years ago, I had been bringing her to Codornices for her regular checkups and for various issues such as vestibular disease (very scary) and a torn ACL. The entire staff was wonderful in getting her in when necessary, dealing with her behavior issues during exams (helping her feel calm), performing thorough evaluations and providing recommendations. Dr. Grant is a superstar and was there for us at the end, helping us understand quality of life issues and giving us the gift of saying goodbye to Jezzie in our home. The waiting area at the clinic is small and can get busy, so if you have a pet who is reactive to other animals it is best to leave them in your car until they are called into an exam room. The folks at the front desk are all business and do a great job staying on top of things. My only feedback would be for them to call you when medication is ready for pickup (otherwise you need to go in to check or call in advance - which takes up more time for everyone). Finally, people might complain that they can't get in to see "their" vet on the same day...They have always gotten us in "same day" when needed, although not always with her regular doc, which is completely understandable. That was fine for me (even with a fear-aggressive dog) because all of their doctors are terrific. read more

We just adopted a new kitten. A dear friend recommend this vet clinic to us. When I called to book our first appointment, the person on the phone was so incredibly rude. He started mansplaining to me on how due to all the people adopting pets during the pandemic has caused them to have a severe backlog. He also walked me through how to do a google search to find a vet near me. Seriously?!?! How about, the soonest we can see you is xxxx and if you encounter any issues or need vaccines try this. Terrible first impression. Happily booked an appointment elsewhere and they advised what to do in the interim for vaccines and emergencies. read more

I first took my Golden Retriever puppy to Codornices after a clinic I had taken other pets to over the years changed hands and the new people were less than satisfactory. The difference was awe-inspiring. I would trust Dr. Gurley and Dr. Grant with my own care, let alone my dog's. They both explain everything thoroughly and then include me in the decision making rather than dictating what needs to be done. I have read most of the five star comments, and I agree with all of them. My Golden is noe eight years old, loves to go to the vet, and has had the very best of care. Update: It has been two years since I first wrote this review. I still feel the same way. If I could give the doctors and staff at Codornices's Clinic ten stars, I would. read more

The vets here are incredible!! They do an amazing job taking care of my golden retriever. The spaying procedure was flawless and the scar is barely noticeable. They did a great job sowing our pup up. On emergency visits they were very attentive and the doctors are always patient with me. Being a first time dog owner, there are a lot of questions (some are silly) and the vets always answer honestly. I love that they offered a puppy social. This was a great introduction to both our pup and us parents to the puppy world. The one thing I do not like about this place is that most of their technicians are moody.... Which is understandable since it is a stressful job and they work for long hours. But I don't like being talked to like I'm a child that is being a pest. We go to this clinic willingly and want the expert attention of these vets, but we can do without the attitude... Not to mention, we are paying a lot to be seen here! Overall I say come here! They take good care of your pet! read more

Great vet! Caring people who've helped me take care of my fur babies for the past ten years now. Highly recommend them.

We love the vet we see here but it's practically impossible to get an appointment, so what help is that? I was told to call at 8 for a same day appointment but at 8:04 they are all gone and our vet is completely booked for the next day she's in as well. We might as well find a new vet or just hope for the best for our pet since we can't actually see the vet when we need to. read more
