Dairy Freeze is one of those iconic neighborhood establishments that has been putting smiles on people's faces for decades. Great ice cream, friendly service, and a little dose of nostalgia made this an unexpected highlight of our evening. Fantastic place! Don't let the slightly cheesy/outdated signage put you off. They take credit cards and offer their own gift card (load $20 get $25--niiiiice, free money). The menu offers a wide variety of options, preparation is quick, and the staff is as friendly as ever. The sandwiches aren't as fancy as Flour but the simplicity does taste great. Also, in the summer they are THE spot for smoothies and fantastic ice cream--nothing beats a fresh fruit smoothie in the Boston heat. Some items are only ok but others are fantastic (Chicken Code Sandwich--yesss, delicious chicken salad with grapes, cranberries, hmmm). Code Ten is a hidden gem in the South End. Very low-key, and easygoing. Minimal crowds, just a genuinely nice neighborhood spot. I got a coffee and greek wrap here awhile back and it came to somewhere around $9 or 10. The food was okay, but the price was crazy! The one cool thing about Code 10 is that they have a whole selection of mustards and hot sauces on the counter for you to put on ur sandwich or wrap. Code 10 does not seem to have fresh food. Every time I have ordered something from there, it's warm if it's supposed to be cold, and vice versa. Delivery takes longer than the half hour they promise, and then they always seem to forget one item. It's definitely not my first choice. read more

Sometimes we'd pack snacks, and sometimes we'd head into Dorchester for Vietnamese food, which was always a nice break, but sometimes you just want food and you want it without going to far. Enter VFC Eats. I'll be honest: you don't come here for the ambiance. Sure, it's gotten better over time, but it's still a little gray and industrial, with some funny meme signs trying to brighten things up. That's okay, because you come here for one thing: filling, satisfying comfort food. The menu is encyclopedic. Burgers? They got that. Pizza by the slice? Yep. Pasta? Like eight different kinds. Dinner combos? YURP. Chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks, jalapeño poppers, rice plates...if you're hungry, they probably have something you'll want. The burgers are the real stars. They're hot, juicy, and SO satisfying. My favorite is the pizza burger with pepperoni. I tried being vegetarian for a year, and tbh, this is the kind of burger that would have un-converted me. If you're in a hurry, though, I'd actually recommend the pizza. The burgers take a little while (good things take time, as they say), and I suspect they're just a bit understaffed. The buffalo chicken pizza is consistently delicious, and reheats beautifully. One small gripe is that they don't always seem to have the little things fully stocked. Today they had run out of paper menus, the TV menu boards were turned off, and the napkin station was empty. That's admittedly a little frustrating when your buffalo chicken pizza is gloriously greasy and you're desperately looking for a napkin. On the other hand...it was July 4, they were open, and they seemed to be working hard, so I'm inclined to give them some grace. (Bless their hearts for working on a holiday when we were all hungry!) Oh, and somehow they also have what feels like 30+ flavors of boba. I usually get the ginger milk tea with boba but no sugar, which is exactly how I like it. (When I need more sugar, I get the yumcha brown sugar + boba.) Today, the woman behind the counter asked if the ginger milk tea was good because she'd never tried it herself. I offered her some of mine, but she politely declined and said she'd have to try it another time. It was such a funny, wholesome interaction. ^_^ Is it HEYTEA? No. Is it Ten One Tea? Also no. But you're also not paying HEYTEA prices, and after wandering around Moakley Park for hours on a scorching hot day, their boba absolutely hits the spot. Service can be a little slow, but if you're hanging out with friends and are just chilling out, you won't mind -- just don't come if you're in a rush. Come if you're hungry. There isn't much seating inside, so be prepared to wait for a chair to open up or take your food over to Moakley Park if the weather is nice. Personally, I think the burger is worth every minute of the wait.

The dining area is very small, all metallic and seems like you're eating behind the register on small steel tables.
