There aren't many affordable options for lunch in the South End, and for the past few years this place has been my go to. The people that run it are so friendly and the food is good. Everything I've tried here is solid and exactly what I'm looking for and what I would expect. Great sandwiches and salads, very generous pasta dinners, and delicious soups for those cold winter nights. For an occasional indulgence, they have an assortment of desserts (some from Rosie's Bakery) and Richardson's ice cream. The prices are very reasonable, certainly more bang for your buck than say Flour or Blunch (both of which are excellent of course). The owner is super friendly and very nice to chat with while waiting for your food. I usually go there to pick-up something on my way home from work, or maybe lunch on the weekend. I get a panini (I think I've had all except maybe Code 10 and 11), or if I'm very hungry, any of the pasta offerings (which come with a nice fresh garden salad and garlic bread). Consistently very good. It's almost never busy. Maybe 4 or 5 people are the most I've ever seen there. read more

In my opinion, Code 10 is extremely under appreciated. I can't tell you how many times I visited for their sandwiches and frozen yogurt during the 2 years I lived in Boston. My favorite sandwiches are the Florentine (chicken with red peppers, mozzarella, and pesto) and the Eggplant (eggplant, mozzarella, red peppers, onions, and pesto). Meanwhile, my favorite frozen yogurt flavor is Purple Cow, which is black raspberry with white and dark chocolate chips. SO amazing. read more

Walked in around 8pm for a hot dog. Person making coffees ignored me for several minutes. Never looked up or acknowledged my presence. I wanted a hot dog, and the only hot dog item I could find on the menu was for the 'special', which is a dog, drink, cookie, and side. There is NO list of sides. Coffee maker is still heads-down, so I decide to be patient and wait for her, or for the other person who I saw in the back. Just as I am about to speak up or just leave, coffee person finishes making her latte-whatever and tells me sides are mac and cheese, cole-slaw, or potato salad. Why isn't that on the menu!? Dog is ok. Takes a long time to make, but it did seem freshly cooked, and the bun was nicely toasted. Mac and cheese was ok. Cookie was yummy. Priice (I think $6.50 for the "special") a bit high for a dog, but it is the South End. It is frustrating to be ignored (she could have just said, "be with you in a minute' and I'd have been fine), and I hate having to guess or ask about menu items. read more

The woman that I have encountered on two occassions at this place is incredibly RUDE, and I'm told she is the manager. Don't you hate bad service, especially when it starts at the top? Ugh. The hot dogs are good, but they are overpriced and the staff acts really funky if you ask them to dress the dog for you (mayo,mustard,etc.)-they want you to use little packets like you're at a concession stand. Be warned- they do NOT take ATM or credit cards. Macaroni and cheese isn't good-just get the dogs. I hear their desserts are good, too. read more

In an attempt to break my Flour addiction, I tried this place for lunch this week instead. I had the moz/procuitto/tomato panini (Code something?) which was about $6, and it was decently good. Normal size, normal price, quick service, about what I'd expect. Not a bad choice. read more

I really like Code 10 a lot! They have delicious sandwiches. I especially like their chicken salad. The lemon rice soup is great and home made. The mac & chesse is delish, and I hear that you won't be dissapointed in their hot dogs, though I don't know from personal experience. Plus, they deliver now, which I haven't utlized, but will do so as it gets colder. I wouldn't suggest the chili con carne, b/c I once saw them pour a really large can of Campbell's chili with beef into the pot. If you're going to eat Campbell's, you may as well have it at home. They give you a nice toasted piece of bread with the soup, too - a nice addition. I see now that winter is rolling around, they have butternut squash soup. It's not homemade, but I will still be checking it out, since it's one of my favorites. The cookies are good and baked fresh. The owner is very nice. There are only a few tables here, so I prefer to take-out. read more

I think some people see this place as "an alternative to Flour when it's too crowded", which is unfair, because Code 10 is a pretty great place in its own right (though the advantage of it being across the street from Flour is that it's never too crowded because everyone's at Flour). Their sandwiches are good (I like the prosciutto/pesto/mozzarella one the best, but they have a wide variety of wraps and panini), and their hot dog special (hot dog, side, cookie, soda) is a great deal. Smoothies are decent and the ice cream is really yummy! The staff are friendly as well. The only reason I deducted a star is that sometimes the food takes a while to come out, but they have magazines and newspapers on the counter to read while you wait. read more

It's definitely not as bad of a service as some of the reviews hack it up to be. First off, all the times I have been there (and as I live around the South End I go there very frequently) they have been nothing but cordial (both women who usually work there). The coffee is great (love the cafe lattes...not too pricey either). The sandwiches menu are the standard fare but are very good, without it being as expensive as Flour. I recommend Da Chicken Code or BBQ pulled pork. And their lemon chicken soup...THE BEST! I haven't tried the ice cream there, though I hear it's excellent from my friends. read more

The hot dog I had was awesome, but the cesear wrap was a little under-whelming. Which was fine because I had my amazing hot dog to enjoy. The atmosphere in the cafe is really laid back and casual, which is a nice change among some of the more trendy places in the south end. Definitely come here for good, cheap, quick food. read more

Solid local, family-owned spot. When I went there frequently in grad school, they always remembered my order and the younger staff always greeted me with a smile. Good for a relatively quick sandwich. I've never felt rushed when eating there. They do deliver and you can call for take out. It would be great if the ingredients in the Florentine were a bit more fresh, but they're tasty. I don't recommend the Tomato Soup. JUst awful. Ordered a BLT and it came with only bacon and mayo - what the ???? Very greasy and really just inedible. Threw it out. Cold day, so we ordered mac and cheese. It gave me flashbacks to the gelatinous orange gross goop served by the nuns in 6h grade. Took on bite and threw it out. Absolutely tasteless and mushy. Chili? It should have been called "bowl of beans". Truly odd flavor and there i s nothing about their chili that is right. Save your money - skip Code 10. We just threw out $35.00 of lunch! read more

I moved here about a year ago from California and lets just say the whole cheers mentality didn't quite rub off in Boston. Ordered the chicken, broccoli, and Alfredo sauce on line and it's definitely worth the $10.00--the chicken was plentiful, rich, and flavorful. My friend ordered and garden burger and was most impressed. Just had the Code 2 sandwich, which is the chicken, swiss cheese with onions - I got it to go and realized when I got to work that they either forgot to put on the dijon mustard or there was so little of it that I didn't taste it. I ordered food through GrubHub to be delivered to my college residence hall. I left a note asking for the driver to call me once they were outside my building. He called once to let me know he was a minute away, was incredibly rude before I even said anything, and then hung up on me. I went outside my building to wait for him, but he was not there. I then got another angry call from him, demanding to know where I was. Turns out he was all the way down the street. He shouted something unintelligible at me, threw my food into my arms, and ran away. The food was okay - nothing special, probably no better than what I could make at home. I love this place. I always get the fresh mozzarella sandwich and it's always consistently delicious. Smoothies are good as well. Don't recommend the brownies which I suspect are not tossed after one day. Still a solid sandwich place. read more

Great, fresh sandwiches and decent prices (for the South End). I've tried virtually all of the sandwiches on their menu and there isn't a bad one. You can taste how fresh the ingredients are. I've ordered delivery from here for years via Yelp Eat 24 and never left a review until now. Always on time/early, food arrives super hot, it's consistently great. Meatball panini is awesome (sounds weird with cheddar and parm cheese but it's dope AF), pastrami is really good. Home made chocolate chip cookies and Richardsons Ice Cream are nice touches.
