We recently moved into the area and decided to grab some dinner from CoCo's. I have had it before and it was perfectly fine...not fantastic, but not bad. This time was awful. We tried the orange chicken, the beef and broccoli, and the pot stickers. The pot beef and broccoli was nearly inedible. It somehow tasted both burnt and soggy, and managed to still have no real flavor. The pot stickers were mediocre, and the sauce included was essentially just soy sauce. Nothing to write home about as good or bad. The orange chicken was the best, but still didn't fall into the realm of good. The sauce was mostly just sugary-sweet with no orange peel or real orange flavor. The chicken was not crispy. Considering the low quality and the the fairly expensive price, we will not be going back to CoCo's. read more

I waited in line for about 3-4 minutes before ordering and only about 2-3 minutes for the food. It was so fast! However, the serving size is very small compared to other Asian food places. The rice didn't taste very good and while the chicken was good, there was not much of it. The prices are pretty low but I'd rather pay the extra and get food elsewhere. read more

Pass. Picked up food to-go. Ordered pork kimchi, sesame chicken, beef chow fun, and crispy spring rolls. My husband likes the pork kimchi so that was good, according to him. Anything fried including the sesame chicken is never crispy. It's like eating reheated leftovers, just so soggy! The chow fun was gross. The noodles were clumped into massive clumps, and the flavor was bland. The meat in the sesame chicken and beef chow fun had a weird texture/appearance-not appetizing. I went here yesterday for the first time in months. It's been remodeled and modern looking. I ordered Kung Pao Chicken as a combo with my food arriving at my table in 5 min or so. Looked great on the plate. I started eating and got this intense taste that I couldn't identify right away. I was picking out the crisp small red peppers so it wasn't that. Ah yes. Sesame chicken, we meet once more. Encounters like these render our culture's disbelief in reincarnation ludicrous INdeed. I do not suspect but simply know that sesame chicken and I have met in a dozen previous lifetimes. How else to explain the unique cocktail of neurochemicals my brain secretes in a frenzy every time the dish's aroma (in WHATever variation) crosses my mucosal membranes? But, shall we focus on the present lifetime? CoCo's is a serious place. The meat is practically spilling over the plate. The rice, oh the rice, so densely packed I'm drawn into the past again, but 25 ft (8.5m) underground, the Furherbunker had walls this thick. They were warm and safe as well (though it didn't do them much good in the end). If there is a theme to Coco's it is Density. The takeout containers stagger to contain the weight. I have had more than one collapse in mid-carry, spilling the cargo onto the surprisingly clean Columbus sidewalk. I ate it there. Rather like a dog, but what are we but dogs? Dogs to enslave our brothers, dogs to our future of East Asian peace drones buzzing overhead (sure hope I've reincarnated by then heh)? When I licked the brown sauce out of the crack in the pavement, I was again lurched into the abyss of our geologic past. A dark time filled with steam and an unfamiliar wetness. The components of Coco's masterpiece, daring in their scope, had expertly prefigured this moment. For it was this dark unfamiliar muck that all life crawled from. Ejecta from the dawn of time, hurtling to a future in which only the terrifying bits are known to us. When I had finished, exhausted, naked, but quite lucid, I ordered a coke, where Coco's gets extra points for having styrofoam cups and serving them to deranged naked men. Did the ownership of Coco's Grill change hands? Today (1/2016) I came here for the first time since last October, and the old lady and old man who I had always seen running the place were nowhere to be seen. When my wife ordered "ebi chili" (a Japanese-Chinese dish of fried shrimp served in a chili sauce), the man taking our order had no idea what we were talking about until we pointed it out on the menu, at which point he said it was OK. We also ordered garlic eggplant. When the food came out, as expected, the ebi chili was not anything resembling the picture they had on the wall: no sauce, just a dusting of salt and dried chili pepper. The garlic eggplant we had hope for because it's more typical in Chinese restaurants in America, but it had changed too. It lost its flavor and any spiciness and turned bland. If anyone has any information about what the old couple who ran the place are doing, please send me a message. So sad to see their cooking go. read more

Ownership of the restaurant had changed! The food here became more expensive and extremely salty. Had the eggplant with pork and instead of a spicy savory sauce, the dish became sweet and bore no resemblance to what it tasted before. The definitely do not run the place the same way as the previous owners. New owners were definitely not friendly and they insisted that we pay upon ordering our food at the counter, instead of the usual pay-after-your-meal. Don't know if I will want to come back. If anyone knows of what happened to the previous owners, do let me know! As dramatic as it sounds, so sad that this place will never be the same ever again... As a general rule I try to avoid restaurants that advertise that they do several different cuisines. You know, "Chinese/Japanese/Thai". That sort of thing. Says to me they aren't really cooking their own food, because they're trying too hard to please everyone. Or they figure you can't tell the difference, anyway. So I was happy to discover my hard-bitten cynicism was misplaced, at least in the case of Coco's Grill. If you ignore all the generic throw-away stuff, there's a nice menu of Chinese home cooking, just like you'd get at home, if your grandmother was from northern China. The hand-written menu to the left is only in Chinese, unfortunately for those who don't read the language. But a friend of mine tells me they're willing to translate, if you pester them enough. Even so, there is a nice selection of authentic Chinese dishes on the menu. Nothing fancy, but like I said, the kind of things you would eat at home. By the way, as Chinese restaurants in Columbus go, this one has atmosphere, sort of. By that I mostly mean it's clean, busy, and painted a nice bright yellow. Very unfortunate experience. I am a pad Thai fanatic and was excited to see their pad Thai listed as "famous" on the menu so decided to try it. I asked for it extra spicy with tofu, and literally all I got was noodles, tofu, pepper flakes a bunch of oil and three carrot shreds. They accommodated my "no egg" request but left the sprouts, onions and scallions off, too. Overall very bland presentation and flavor. I won't be returning. read more

CoCo's has quickly become my go-to Chinese food spot. The location is super convenient and has a decent size parking lot out front. Although it shares the same lot as a liquor store and Jimmy John's, I've never had trouble finding a spot. CoCo's has become a great place for my boyfriend and I to grab food when we are too tired/lazy to cook at home. He usually gets the General Tso's while I typically get the beef and broccoli. Both are always delicious. One warning: the food is HOT. Not spicy hot, but you-will-burn-your-mouth-if-you-eat-it-immediately hot. Even if you get the food to-go, it is still REALLY hot 15-20 minutes later. This is not necessarily a bad thing but just beware. CoCo's is four stars in my book. Super fast, convenient and cheap! I'm falling less and less in love with CoCo's Grill every time I eat there. When this Chinese/Japanese/Korean eatery opened I thought it was the bee's knees. But now they've taken my favorite dish off the menu, Katsu Curry, and have added too many new dishes to be a properly focused restaurant. For fast food Asian cuisine, CoCo's Grill offers some real authentic dishes including Kimchi, Tonkatsu, Bulgogi, and a whole slew of authentic Chinese specials all written in Chinese on the menu, with horrible translations like, "Chop Mustard, Green Bean". Many of these dishes are recent additions, and I am of the firm belief that the smaller the menu, the better the quality. For instance, I recently ordered Miso Soup with my dish and somehow they managed to mess up Miso Soup. It's the easiest thing to make! Just take Miso paste and add hot water, tofu, seaweed and scallions. But this soup just wasn't miso-y enough. How can you screw this up? I've noticed that the quality of the food and service is directly proportional to the time of day. If it's 3:00 in the afternoon and you're the only one in the grill, then the quality and service go down. If you're there to partake in their awesome Lunch Special, then the quality of the food rises but the service still sucks. read more

CoCo's Grill is so hard to review for me for this reason: I'll go in somewhat unsatisfied with the last dish I had there, and, hoping to rekindle an infatuation I had with CoCo's when I first dined there, order a new dish. And I'll like it! Oh! I can love CoCo's again! Hooray! But then I go in again, excited about my new find, get it, and- oh. I only kind of like CoCo's again. Somewhat unsatisfied- and we see where that lead last time. Ah, but there's the kicker- I'm almost never totally unsatisfied. Only somewhat- and I always think going back to CoCo's is sort of worth a try. I do usually like their potstickers, though, and consistently. With their various types of Asian cuisine served fairly quickly, CoCo's is a better choice for a quick lunch than a fast food burger by a damn sight. The real surprise of CoCo's is that there's a self-serve soda fountain- bonus! So, yeah, CoCo's is pretty okay. I just fear the day I run out of new dishes I want to try. read more

As we walked in, the greeting was anything but friendly. There was no one in here and it seems they liked it that way. I ordered the Hunan Beef. It's what I always get when I go to a new Chinese restaurant to compare a similar dish across restaurants. I don't typically write reviews, but I really didn't care for this place. I read a lot great reviews, but I didn't experience what others did. I got the House Tofu which is a crispy tofu with vegetables in a brown sauce, which other reviews had mentioned as delicious. I didn't find it tasty. I found the brown sauce pretty weak and too salty. There weren't too many vegetables in the dish either (6 pieces of broccoli, a sliver of zucchini, and a few tiny pieces of mushrooms). Overall, it was really disappointing. :-( Needless to say, I won't be back. I hope others have better luck here. It's in Grandview and Basil Thai's on King and Northstar and Nong's Hunan Express on King and Northwest produce WAY better products in my opinion. read more

Fantastic customer service. Staff is very friendly and food is quick and hot. However, food was just ok. Pad Thai was very greasy and not spicy at all- even if you ask them to make it extra spicy they just added more chili flakes. The vegetables were sparse and some did not look very appetizing. The General Tso chicken was slightly dry but still good. Because the menu is so extensive, I would consider going back to try something different! Friendly service, but my meal wasn't too tasty. I ordered the Ma Po Tofu, which is steamed tofu, mushroom, and green onion. It's served with a spicy sauce (which wasn't listed on the menu). The sauce was definitely spicy, but not much else. It really lacked in other flavors. The steamed tofu was way too soft. I think they used a soft instead of firm tofu. Because the tofu was steamed rather than baked or fried, it was lacking in flavor. So pairing that with the sauce, made for a disappointing meal. read more

Ate here on Saturday night after the OSU football game. Clean place with reasonable prices. We got the pot stickers, lo mein, hot spicy chicken with fried rice, and the pad thai. Nothing was spectacular, although the pot stickers were pretty darn good. The pad thai was nothing special; the peanut chunks were a little too big for my taste and the noodles seemed to thick to be pad thai noodles. The hot spicy chicken was very spicy but otherwise sort of bland and did not resemble the picture shown at all. The fried rice was ok and was not greasy like most but was also sort of bland. Had the tofu steak and hot tofu- amazing! Tofu was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's crazy how often restaurants mess up tofu, but they nailed it. And that's just in regards to the tofu, the flavor was great as well. Lots of options for people who don't eat meat.. and even more for people who do. I got this food because Uber eats was having a good deal. Unless I get another deep discount, I wouldn't come back here. There are cheaper places with more flavorful food that give you more sustenance. The "fried" rice was basic white rice with some eggs and veggies sparsely thrown through it. No part of it vaguely resembles fried rice and was disappointing. The chicken barely had any sauce on both the general tso's and the sesame chicken. The spring rolls were the size of those you buy frozen and microwave, and the kimchi was just terrible. Today was my first time trying cocos and omg. I've been a grandview local for a long time and I have been NEEDING to find a noodle soup like theirs. The spicy beef noodle stew is just about the best I've ever had. Pad Thai is so different than any other with a wonderful flavor and the honey chicken doesn't disappoint either. Nothing to complain about here, we got the house special spicy fish fillet bowl and tonkatsu, and everything was good. I forget some places traditionally use star anise or something in the broth, and I'm not a fan of it, but it was tolerable. The tonkatsu was good, but it had a bit too much sauce for us. Next time, we'd ask for less tonkatsu sauce or sauce on the side. I like how there's a decent variety of Americanized Chinese, Japanese, Thai, Korean, Cantonese, and Sichuanese food. There's something for everyone, and this is a no frills kind of place. Just order at the front, grab your stuff, and sit down to wait for the food to come to you. The General Tso's chicken was some of the best I've ever had. Perfect bite-sized pieces (some places make them way too big) with sauce that's actually spicy (but not too spicy)! The crab rangoon were excellent too, and even held up for a 15 minute car ride. The chicken lo mein and vegetable lo mein were outstanding as well. The garlic beef was too spicy though (tons of jalepenos). I'm really looking forward to trying more menu items at CoCo's. read more

Popped in there after a long day driving and working out and just wanted some good Chinese takeout-- I recognize the irony- with which to flop down on the couch. I was not disappointed! I got the crab rangoon (my standard item to rate all Chinese food places against) and the chicken pad thai which were both good! The crab rangoon was busting with a creamy peppery filling and not over cooked. The chicken pad thai was fresh and flavorful and I have leftovers for lunch today! Score! After I had tried a sufficient amount, I added some red pepper flakes, because I'm a spice-enthusiast, and that was, of course, delicious. Pork with Spicy Black Bean was a dried-fried dish with no sauce and was very good as well. The pork was plentiful and fresh, the ginger, fermented black beans and jalapenos made the dish flavorful. Truth be told, we only went to Coco's because the nearby Fusian was overly-packed, and frankly, I'm getting real sick and tired of telling people, ingredient by ingredient, how to make my food. I'll stay at home and cook if that's what I want. At any rate..... so glad we tried Coco's! The place was small, clean, and sparsely populated for 12:30 on a weekday lunch time. Staff was friendly and fast. It's the type of place where you order, pay, get a cup for your drink, self service at fountain drink station where you collect cutlery, napkins, and little packets of condiments. This place is definitely super casual, fast dining. The menu was a little all over the place, with Japanese offerings, a few riffs on some Thai, Americanized Chinese food, and some more traditional Chinese offerings. The husband had CoCo's shrimp, which was lightly battered and had a sauce that, while pleasant and spicy, I also found a tad sweet. Very generous portion! I had the chili hot pot, and they were not messing around on the spices! Very flavorful, full of shrimp and packed full of veggies, this dish was served over a sterno flame and was hot, hot, hot (temperature as well as spice level). I'd go back for this in a heartbeat! The only thing that was "meeehhhh" was the Thai spring rolls. (To be fair, I was expecting Goi Cuon Tom Thit and didn't really ask.) We received 3 very puny deep fried spring rolls with hardly a nick of filling that looked like they were purchased at a big box store. For the price (I wanna say $2.50 for 3 cocktail hors d'oeuvre sized rolls), skip this for sure. All in all, the food was above what we expected and we enjoyed both entrées. There are plentiful vegetarian and pescatarian options here as well. Between that and the "safer" Americanized food plus some more authentic and adventurous dishes would make this a great place to go with a group of not-so-like-minded diners, or awesome for office takeout orders.
