Quick stop for a bite and a Taiwanese tea. I was pleasantly surprised by this cafe shop. The staff is incredibly friendly and my tea was prepared with in couple of minutes. I really like the tea flavor, definitely recommended.

This has been my always go-to place restaurant when I was a student at the University of Texas at Austin. Located at Guadalupe Street and 20th, this place served authentic Taiwanese foods and drinks. One food item that I always order whenever I come here is Peppercorn Chicken with Rice. It looks extremely simple, but that taste always makes me to come back whenever I visit Austin. Because this is a place that always brings me a memory back, this is my favorite place to visit whenever I am at Austin.

Rating: 3.8/5 [dine in] Took about 15 minutes to order and get our food, and another 15 minutes to eat. They give you a table number and have a whole setup to the right of the ordering counter with condiments, utensils, soup, water, etc. They offer complimentary vegetable soup if you order food and dine in. The soup was actually pretty good--great for sipping on between bites of fatty or fried food. Chicken Nuggets ($8.95): Crispy, Taiwanese-style fried chicken nuggets seasoned with salt, pepper, and fresh Thai basil, served with sweet chili sauce. Tasted pretty authentic, but the portion size was on the smaller side. The nuggets were a good size with a perfectly crispy coating and juicy chicken inside. They also gave a generous amount of fried Thai basil, which paired perfectly with the chicken. Bacon Pork with Rice ($15.95): Braised pork belly served with white rice, boiled eggs, steamed carrots and broccoli, and pickled veggies. Good portion overall. It was a cohesive dish, but just okay--we've had better braised pork belly elsewhere.

Was craving Taiwanese food and this place hits the spot. They even had free soup which tasted pretty authentic. Love the popcorn chicken. Everything else was ok but I'd come back for the chicken and Taiwanese shaved ice.

Cocos what happened??? I giving two for the nice people, the station in the back and I had boba here like 4 years ago that I enjoyed so my hope is that it's still good ( it looks good so maybe i'd come back for boba only) The food LOOKED good but wow was I mistaken. I got the pork belly rice meal and it was quite possibly the worst thing I have eaten ever. The picture on the menu had the pork belly dry so I thought it was like marinated pork belly. When I got my dish, it was smothered in a very unappealing sauce. The pickled veggies were really sweet and look at that egg. You know that egg looks depressing. Eating this made me was to gag and throw up. I was really sad. For studying, there's not outlets anywhere I could see, so charge your devices if you want to study here.

I've been to Coco's Cafe a handful of times and would recommend their rice dish with peppercorn chicken! It's located along the Drag, so is really convenient and close to UT campus. Service is fast - you order at the counter and they bring your food out to you. There's a good amount of seating and you can choose where you'd like to sit. Peppercorn Chicken with Rice ($13.95, 5/5) - This has become my go-to order! - Flavor is great with the minced garlic, green onions + onions, jalapeños, red chilis - Good portion sizes, I like that they provide rice and a side of their pickled vegetables along with the chicken In terms of drinks, I've tried their boba before and it was just okay (3/5). Tasted a bit powdery and costed around $7.50. Wouldn't recommend getting the boba here but their rice dishes are consistent and have good flavor!

Spicy Beef Noodle Soup

We got the spicy beef noodle soup which came with an assortment of vegetables. It was pretty good and helped soothe my sore throat at the time. However, I think it was a bit expensive ($17) but it is very close to campus on guad. We also got a small honeydew smoothie with boba which was $8 (still pretty expensive for a small). You have to order at the front and they give you a number for your table of your choosing. The place is a little small and crowded but that's most places on campus. It's cute with indoor and outdoor seating. You also have to put your own dishes away in the back btw. Overall, it's a little expensive but really convenient for students.

Friendly staff and great popcorn chicken. Not the best milk tea or smoothies. We came on a Friday night and were warmly greeted by the cashier. We ordered a popcorn chicken to go and it was delicious. Hot, fresh, crispy, and filled with flavor and lots of sliced fresh chilis. The rice and pickled veggies are as good as ever. I would likely not get their milk tea again because it tastes like it came from a mix. The strawberry banana smoothie was good but a little too much like a slush. If you are looking for a strong tea flavor, you will likely not be happy. However, if you want a standard milk tea that harkens back to the olden days of milk tea in the 90s, this is your go-

Back in town and was excited to revisit this place. Unfortunately it is not as wonderful as it was years ago. It's really killing me to write this low review. First, there was only a fan running and the air was very muggy in the place. We ordered an eel bowl, tofu appetizer and pickled veggies appetizer to go. To my surprise, it came out over $30. Over 25 minute wait. About 10 people got served after we put our order in. I had to ask if they maybe forgot to make my order. Maybe if you were only there to get boba, it would be an o-k experience. If you order food, make sure you have ample time and not in a rush, and be ready to wait in the heat.

Nice spot for some Taiwanese food. Shaved ice was the big hit for us. $6 for fresh ingredients and a large serving. What a bargain! The crispy chicken nuggets were also very nice. Pot stickers and kelp weren't too bad. The free soup was a great touch. Glad we stopped by.

Dining at Coco's Cafe felt like I was in college again. The humble Taiwanese joint serves iconic street food items, such as beef noodle soup and popcorn chicken, and of course boba. Inside, the place is enveloped in warm colors and nostalgic decor, like college merchandise if I remember correctly lol. There is ample seating too. My friends and I shared scallion pancakes and the popcorn chicken and rice. It was enough to satiate the appetite of three girls, granted we weren't that hungry to begin with. I appreciated the plentiful stir fried green onions and peppers on top of the chicken. It paired wonderfully with the plain white rice. However, I will say the skin on the chicken was a little chewier than I'd like it to be. Flavor was still great though. The scallion pancakes were decent. I haven't had too many to be honest, so I'm not sure how it compares to others. But I wasn't blown away by it. This is a great place to come for a late night talking session with friends. So homey and comforting.

So many memories are created here. Love coming back here when in Austin. Friendly and fast service. Great drink selections, and they are all very delicious (not too icy and watery). My favorite is Peppercorn Chicken with Rice. It's very crispy but not too oily, perfect with pickled vegetables. Yum!

Strawberry slush
Deborah W.

My friend and I came in on a Friday night to get dinner to go around 10 PM. We got a watermelon slushy, a peppercorn chicken with rice and ground pork with rice. The watermelon slushy had a nice flavor but was way too sweet especially with the lychee jelly that we also added to it. The peppercorn chicken had pretty good flavor and the pickled veggies it came with were very delicious. My friend really enjoyed it, The ground pork with rice on the other hand was very disappointing. The pork was so dry and did was way over powered by rice. The best part of the dish was the pickled veggies on top. I also tried to order a papaya milk but they never put my order in for the drink. All in all, an average meal.

This…read moreplaza always has a great lineup of authentic Asian spots, always enjoy visiting here, but had never tried CoCo's before. They were relatively busy, and it seems like the spot is known for small Taiwanese eats like beef noodle soup and braised pork rice. They also have a solid dessert selection, ranging from boba and slushies to shaved ice, which is what we got. Shaved Ice with 4 Toppings ($6.50, 9/10) - Huge, generous portion for a really fair price - Uses regular shaved ice rather than the fancier snow ice you find at some Korean shops, but the portion size more than makes up for it - You choose four toppings, great variety to pick from, we went with taro, grass jelly, red bean, and another type of jelly, all of them were fantastic - Topped with condensed milk and a bit of extra flavoring - Bowl was massive, easily shareable between two people, probably enough for three or even four people Overall, I've only tried the shaved ice here so far, but definitely want to come back and try some of their Taiwanese food, it looked legit based on other tables' plates. Heads up that the food does look a bit pricey, dishes seem to run around $20, not sure how generous the portions are on those. Taiwanese food is hard to find in Austin in general, so we'll definitely be back, at least for more shaved ice and maybe some boba.

For their Shaved Ice, you can choose 4 toppings at the right counter. They have traditional toppings (small red bean, big red bean, mung bean, taro, peanut, barley) and modern toppings (jellies, puddings, popping bobas). Entertaining to watch them make it in front of you. It starts with a base of shaved ice, 4 toppings, drizzled condensed milk and brown sugar syrup, another layer of shaved ice, and even more condensed milk and brown sugar syrup on top. It's like a mountain of chilled dessert! Generous portions, great value for $6.50. We did a mix of traditional and modern toppings: small red bean, mung bean, rainbow jelly, and grass jelly. They are all good, you can't go wrong with any of them. The toppings themselves are not too sweet, so the ice and sugar syrups balance out. Very refreshing on a hot summer day! Their food, snacks, and drinks are really good too. The fridge showcase has bottled/canned drinks and various snacks - macarons, mochi, cakes, swiss rolls. Along the left wall is a claw machine and merch case with t-shirts, keychains, and more. Their seasonal drinks are fun to try too. This 2026 summer, they have Pudgy Summer Refreshers, like Pengu Soda and Polly Soda. The Pengu Smoothie features a Taro Coconut Bliss. Pretty and vibrant drinks. Friendly and efficient workers in a welcoming atmosphere. The interior is clean, nicely decorated, cool honeycomb counter, with plenty of seating. Easy to order at the front counter and everything comes out fast. They will call your name when your drinks are ready, pick up is at the left counter. Their new rewards program is called Coco's Pearl Points, where you can get free toppings or drinks after accommodating points for each drink purchase. Parking lot is decent sized and can get full on the weekends, may have to park by the Target in the next plaza. Lots of savory and sweet options. Great cafe for a meal and dessert!

Simple seating, bamboo plants, simple wood furniture, red lanterns and a shrine-- it gives traditional without even trying. You can order either at the counter or directly at your table via QR code. I'd recommend ordering at the counter, since it seems like table orders take longer to get moving. If your body runs warm, their central AC isn't running and for the most part, I found myself too hot to even want to order noodles with broth. Instead, I opted for the Cold Sesame noodles, which surprisingly wasn't bad! NOTE: the picture overhypes the dish and the actual result/taste look nothing like it. It absolutely needed more dimension other than the cucumbers, lettuce, and carrots-- fried garlic, lime, peanuts, scallions, ANYTHING. The chicken was tender (THANK GOODNESS), but should have been more shredded. Small menu items: *The Taiwanese Popcorn: another one-dimensional item that could have been so much better. It needed more spices and BASIL! *Soup Dumplings: Came out deflated with not enough soup, but the good news: the dumpling wrapper was tender and the pork filling wasn't too bad. *Shrimp & Pork Wontons in Chili Sauce: needs more acidity, I added a few drops of vinegar and it made the dish perfect Self-Service: In addition to being able to order at your table, Noodle Alley has a self-service bar where they serve oranges (essential to end all Chinese meals) and cucumber salad. Though there seems to be some praise for the cucumber salad, we found it to be too soggy meaning it's been sitting for some time.

When you arrive, everybody is so nice you give them your name and they get you seated right away. I ordered a drink called a signature tingling Daisy and it was so good. Also, for appetizers, we got the spicy cucumbers which were divine and a hot and sour soup, which was perfectly balanced and not watery. We also got a beef fried rice and let me tell you that rice is so soft and delicious. You literally dream about it the next day. I also got the pecking duck which is delicious there the skin is nice and crispy and the meat on it taste so good. We also got the Kung pow shrimp with cashews, which was delicious and the pieces of shrimp were gigantic. We also got the green beans which is were delicious. The greeter wasn't very friendly and borderline surly when I asked for more details about how to not book the bar in the future. Didn't get any explanation but fortunately, we won't have to worry about that... The food was just awful. We ordered 3-4 types of dimsum (onion pancake, soup dumplings, chu shou, fried shu mae) and three entries (orange beef, eggplant and their take on ma pao tofu) for the best tasting experience. The curry sauce for the onion pancake was probably the most flavorful dish of the night sadly. The onion pancake was way way over fried-- hard as a rock. If that's their take on onion pancake... well, it's just wrong. The soup dumplings were passable but a bit doughie and the filling was full of a lot of noticeable coagulated fat -- not clear and broth-y, with light surface droplets of oil as all delicious broths. My wife enjoyed the chu shou -- I found the filling much too overcooked and tough -- difficult to eat with chop sticks. Like a tough, overcooked meatball. The fried shu Mae were just plain inedible. My wife and I each ate one and left the rest. The included sauce was basic and too heavy. And again, over fried. There was a huge delay between our apps and our mains, like 40 minutes or so. Various bar staff apologized. It wasn't a big deal, we were in a good conversation and they were super busy but our mains were not at all worth waiting for. Small portions. WAY over sauced. WAY too salty. WAY too sweet. No distinct flavors at all. The ma pao didn't seem to have any Szechuan pepper at all. How do you miss that ? The plating of the eggplant dish was really creative but I don't eat with my eyes and it came with no instruction -- my first bite was just flavorless steamed eggplant cube -- second was mixed with one note sauce. One of the better mains IMO but it was still gloopy and pretty gross. Wife did not enjoy it. The orange beef was essentially just six or seven cubes of tough, fatty beef covered in over-the-top bitter orange peel. We each had a cube and left the rest. Honestly, give me Panda Express any day over this abject failure of a restaurant. Austin needs more Chinese but if it's anything like this place, forget it. I'd rather spend a 4h round trip to Houston and go to even a mediocre Chinese restaurant than endure another meal at this place. What a waste of $165. Edit: I wish I was making this up but I literally had to pull over to throw up on the side of the road on the way home. The food did not sit well with me. I have no underlying health conditions, am not on any medicine that would have this as a side effect and only shared one beer with my wife. It was just a very, very, disappointing and gross meal.
