Small complaint, but they switched the dressings that my mom & i were given. And the avocado portion size was kind of small. For an extra dollar, I think it could be a bit bigger. I guess it's a new location, me and my sister discovered on my lunch break. Another place we wanted to eat down the road was closed. It's Labor Day and not that many places were opened that weren't drive thru. The ambiance is welcoming, since I'm from Hawaii they were playing a lot of local Hawaii Music, especially some IZ, which I loved. The basic layout looked like a 2 story surf shop converted into a dine in restaurant. I must admit I enjoyed dining there. The food is great there was an entire table full of the local firemen squad having lunch together. The workers or manager should've taken the opportunity for a photo op to show the community where their local firemen choose to have lunch. So I actually ordered the butter garlic shrimp which didn't survive for picture taking but I can tell you now it's a winner. The shrimp tacos I had to try, but you really should dine and enjoy them. They're quite filling and will get messy as you eat them. All part of the fun and enjoyable experience. Will definitely visit this place again, but the friendly guys working should know it's a Hawaii themed franchise, I asked if it is when I ordered. My husband and I have been going to Coco shrimp when they were just a food truck outside of an ACE Hardware store! We were thrilled when we heard that they were moving to a brick and mortar store in Watauga, which was right down the road from us. When they first opened, we were excited to see that this location would also have a drive through option as well. The option to order online and pick up has been great, especially during peak hours! The inside has lots of seating as well as a few patio tables outside too. Pro-tip... if you're ordering a plate, get the salad on the side. You'll thank me later ;) Both dressings that are options for the salad are great; my favorite is the creamy ginger one though! My favorite plate to order is the coco shrimp plate. The coconut shrimp as delicious! Perfect blend of sweet, balanced by the dipping sauce, over the butter garlic rice! Amazing. We also love their tacos for this same reason. When I was 100 ft away realized she didn't give me my drink. Looped around and was behind someone ordering. Got to the speaker and told her she didn't give me my drink. Ordered the $15.95 five-flavor shrimp sampler that's not on the menu. It comes with two coconut w/ sweet chili sauce, butter garlic, lemon herb, spicy, and sweet and spicy shrimp. All meals include rice, salad with poppyseed vinaigrette, ginger dressing, cucumbers, and craisins. On my next visit, I'll order butter garlic, coconut, and sweet and spicy. These three were my favorites. You can request additional sauces for $0.50. I purchased cilantro lime. It went great with the salad. I recommend switching out the ginger dressing for cilantro lime. This place was so yummy. I drive past it all the time and finally my husband said let's go for lunch. It was Easter Monday it was only us in there around 2pm. The guy who served us was efficient and nice, the food came out quickly. As newbies we didn't really know what to order and it wasn't until I had sat and seen the menu on the table that I saw they had tacos as it was hard to see on the hanging sign above the checkout. So maybe he could have said we also do tacos and sides etc. However, we both ordered the shrimp sampler as it was our first time to try more flavors. I got the coconut, butter garlic and lemon herb. All 3 were delicious! The butter garlic was my top but all were great flavors. Then I got the side salad with poppy seed dressing and that dressing was so refreshing, light, and tasty. Lastly the rice was super fluffy and buttery tasted so good. The had fountain drinks and water. The also had a sink to wash hands which was a nice touch. I loved the beach, surfer style decor also. I've been to CoCo Shrimp several times now, and it's an excellent fast fill-up. The shrimp is cooked well, and I liked the sweet and sour better than the garlic plate I had last time; it was far too wet. The salad dressings of ginger or poppy are tasty, and I like that this place does one thing, and they do it well. I've had easy counter-ordering interactions, but the man that calls your name and starts to bring out the food, on the last two occasions at least, just about threw it at me like a depressing movie scene of slop being served to orphans. I'd prefer to pick up my food from a conveyer belt than feel like I'm bothering someone while they're working, I want to eat my shrimp in peace. Love this place. We first got introduced when it was a food truck over by Ace. The restaurant is just icing on the cake. It feels like there should be a beach 50 feet away. The menu is very simple but they do it well. I've had both the shrimp order and the shrimp tacos. You get shrimp, rice, and salad. Both types of dressing are good. The only downside is that it's a little pricey, but everything is going up. It's around 15 a meal but you get a good amount of food. It's a great midway between fast food and sit down. Worth the wait. I tried the sampler and got the coco shrimp, spicy, and sweet & spicy versions. The rice... Amazing. I'd eat that for lunch by itself with the dipping sauce. The shrimp, spot on...although i could have used more spice on the spicy... But then i eat jalapeños straight... So I am not always fair to judge spicy levels. The atmosphere though... This place is seriously one of the best shrimp in the area. I always take folks there when they come to visit. There are several new locations popping up and I am happy for them. I was not a fan of coconut so I did not like coconut shrimp until I ate it here. Their coconut shrimp is the only coconut shrimp that I eat. The garlic butter and spicy shrimp as good as well but the coco shrimp is my go to. The butter rice is fantastic and even better when you mix in the sweet chili dipping sauce! That's what makes them stand out. I normally get the box meal, but today I had the shrimp tacos on a friend's recommendation. It's quite amazing! You don't get as much garlic rice with it though. There's just a little sprinkling of rice inside. Lots of lettuce topping. The tacos super good but I think I'll still get the rice box to get my rice I want. Or do what I do. They should really think about making the salad mac as a side. The coco taco was a no go for me. The first bite was good, and then it all went downhill. I think it was a mistake by the chef to be honest, but my cousin's taco shrimp was also as salty as mine. It was salty to the point it tasted like we were licking the salt rim of a margarita glass. I ended up taking the taco apart and threw away the taco shell but the saltiness was coming from the sauce, or they sprinkled way too much on it. Overall i would not order that again unless i get free avocado slices to balance out the saltiness. Stick with the plates. read more
