Birria, guac, corn/mushroom quesadila
Glen N.

Pros: Good guacamole, fat salty chips. Salsa is watery but good for heat. Atypical spot with glass walls for people watching. Not overly bright. Spacious. Good location, if you like downtown. Huge selection of dad beers (domestics). What could be improved: dim the overhead lighting, add some mood music, add more menu items, and deactivate the Yelp check in offer if you're not going to honor it.

Birria Tacos! Yum!
Jessica Z.

My first time eating here since it became Cobre & Clay. I came right when they opened. I ordered the Birria Tacos! So tasty! It came with 3 tortillas and the birria meat in a bowl and it was a good amount! Good service! I asked the bartender (Oscar) his opinion of the birria tacos and he recommend to try it. Glad I did! I'll try the costillas next time lol... I liked the open area of the cantina. There's lots of light coming in from all the windows and doors and they have good music playing. It's at the corner of the street, connected to the Marriott hotel, and you can see Cesar Chavez Park. Overall yummy!!

Chilaquiles with over easy eggs...
mari s.

I'm picky when it comes to my chilaquiles. The salsa needs to be super flavorful, the tortilla chips have to stay crisp, cheesy. It's the perfect combo to the rich flavor of an over easy egg. Cobre and Clay's chilaquiles just hit the spot! Serving it on a skillet is genius! I could have this every day! Definitely coming back just for this perfection!

Carne asada street tacos

Working to get up on its feet, this place replaces Tanq in the same venue tucked under the Marriott on Market street. Great spot to drink and look at the downtown foot traffic in San Jose, and being just around the corner from the convention centre it can be quite entertaining. The mood is Mexico, with interesting decor and menus but the food execution lacks confidence and polish to match the look. The chips and salsa needed oomph (or maybe just a little salt) and every third chip was stale, despite being 'house made' per the menu. The street tacos were likewise a little lacking, with chewy, tasteless tortillas contrasting with the delicious carne asada and fresh accompaniments. The staff were attentive to a fault though and did their best to keep me entertained, fed and watered. I feel that with a bit more work this place can come up good and prove to be a worthwhile diversion for hotel guests and convention passers-by.

Chips & Guac

My friends were exploring the downtown area before we went to a nearby event and ran into Cobre & Clay, we wanted a small bite to eat before a long day so we decided to stop by and check what they had. I ended up ordering the chips and guac and they were delicious, well worth the price and the service was excellent and prompt. The cocktail menu looked good as well and we will probably be back to check out other things on their menu :)

Benedict, Sunday brunch

We came into Cobre and clay while in the downtown area for Sunday brunch. The Benedict was delicious very filling, the mango added a lovely freshness, we also had the chips guacamole and salsa. My daughter thought the guacamole was amazing she ate the whole bowl! Service was top notch they checked on us made sure food was to our liking and that we had all we needed. Oscar and Angelo did a good job serving us. The restaurant has fun music and nice big windows for people watching.

Street corn salad

Stayed in San Jose Marriott overnight at the weekend. The restaurant is conveniently located inside the hotel. Ordered fish taco and street corn salad for my teenage son and he liked both. The service for order to-go is very fast as well. Would recommend for anyone in the area or stay in the hotel.

At Cobre & Clay, I ordered this quesadillia, it's so good! I'll definitely order this again. They mix good drinks too.Good restaurant choice!

The cocktail menu is inspired by records, and you can feel the creativity in every sip. These aren't your standard bar pours -- they're clearly thought out and crafted with personality. If you're someone who appreciates a drink with a story behind it, you'll be in your element here. The live DJ on weekends takes the whole experience to another level. The music isn't background noise -- it's part of the atmosphere, and it hits right. What makes this place truly special is that you're getting two completely different vibes under one roof. Walk into Still OG up front and you get a casual, laid-back energy -- easy conversation, good company, no pretension. Then slip into the speakeasy in the back and the whole mood shifts. Alter Ego is a proper intimate lounge with their full bar, and it feels like a world away from the street outside. The transition between the two spaces is surprisingly seamless and genuinely fun to experience. And they're open late, which puts them in a rare category of places actually worth staying out for. Whether you're there for a chill night out or a proper evening, this place delivers both without making you choose.

We sat outside by the fire pits. We tried so many drinks but the waiter suggested Paradise Lounge was the best one I tried. We did try the Phoenix Rising... hard pass on that one - something tasted rank to me. They were kind enough to remake it, and after the second version it still tasted weird. I do think it was something off with me. Ultimately they brought out another PL. Really appreciated that and they didn't make me feel bad for being picky. Also, it had a New York type vibe with the brick walls and it wasn't too dark so we weren't struggling to look at menus or anything. The bartenders were quick and got to us within minutes. I'm currently not drinking any alcohol, so I ordered a Coco L'Orange, which ended up tasting like a sweeter Orange Julius. I really enjoyed it like a dessert drink since I just had dinner. I also appreciated how it didn't just taste like straight sugar syrup, which is my usual experience with spirit free cocktails. However, it was pretty tart, so I suggest just sipping on it. It helped a lot with feeling like was drinking with everyone the whole time without having to order multiple drinks. Regarding seating, we somehow found a table in the back where our party of 18 guys could hangout, and it wasn't so loud we couldn't hear each other. I barely go out anymore, but in this area I now prefer this establishment since I could sip on a good non-alcoholic drink without worrying about someone accidentally running into me and spilling on me. There were also plenty glass water bottles going around to keep everyone hydrated.

The raw tuna is served in perfect squares stacked perfectly with avocado and slight spicy sauce. Lovely and crunchy. The lobster is served in huge tender pieces with giant ravioli in a creamy almost newburg sauce. This was our favorite. We brought home a piece of lemon cheesecake served with strawberry cream. So delicious and beautiful. Our server was Mike and he was charming. The timing of everything was perfect. Thank you for the beautiful white rose. I came here with a friend on a weekday for dinner and it was not packed at all. The atmosphere was very minimalist and clean, with a cute disco ball in the corner. This establishment requires you to order at the bar (makes sense it's a bar), and then they did you a number for the table so they can deliver your food. Any drinks you order they will make it right then and there for you to bring over. In terms of food, here is everything we ordered and my thoughts! *Deviled eggs: You would think since it's deviled eggs, there wouldn't be anything too special about them but I appreciated the small pops of salmon roe that added a nice textural play with the creamy eggs! * Bluefin tostada: Absolutely delicious with fresh tuna, paired with mango, on a crispy wonton chip. What a rich treat. * Arancini: The twist of fusion flavors was great. I love how the Japanese curry added a nice mix of umami, paired with the sharp creamy kimchi sauce. Definitely a favorite! * Pork belly: Pull apart, juicy, and tender! These paired actually really well with the arancini for a good balance of rice and meat. * Red miso crème brûlée: interesting sweet and salty flavor combination between the red miso and Madagascar vanilla.
