A video store for all of us intellectual movie nerds!…read more Videotheque sells some new and used DVDs and Blu-Rays, but their main purpose of being is as a video rental store and it's like no other video store I've been too. Their videos are organized by how a cinema fan's mind works. By category, by country, by director. John Woo movies in the Hong Kong director's section. Hou Hsiao-Hsien in Taiwan. There's classic porn from the 70s, 80s and 90s. There are Criterion discs. There are John Huston movies, Godard movies, Wim Wenders and David Lynch. Dario Argento horror movies. Sci-fi. Pre Sci-fi. Post Sci-fi. Brazilian. African. Silent films... I could go on and on. If you are looking for an obscure out of print classic film that's not on streaming, there's an 80% chance that you can find it here to rent. There is street parking nearby. The problem? I live in OC and this place is in Mount Washington/Montecito Heights. So if I move down there, I'll be renting some unheard of movies, that's for sure!

This is a movie rental place. I know hard to find now days. They do sell some stuff. It is really…read morefun to look through all the movies they have. Most everything is dvd, but they have blu-ray and 4k too. I liked talking to the staff about their stock. They had some stuff that I'm been looking for rent. They said the they move all the shelves around so they can have a movie night where they bring out a projector. I recommend this place if you got the time. They do seem to have most every that I asked for.

So many specialized, "underground" shops sponsoring a plethora of clandestine, alternate scenes in…read moreL.A. that it boggles the mind.  Whammy! Analog Media is mostly specific for the ancient medium of VHS video cassette tapes. Do they still manufacture video cassette machines? Even more esoteric would be to focus on Sony Betamax video cassette tapes.  There is also a very small vinyl record  and movie posters section. Whammy also has movie showings that no commerical movie theatre would take on since it would interest a very focused audience. Limited seating of about 30. Tickets are sold through their website as well as a monthly calendar of events.  Tonight's theme is Dirty Looks, which delves into two disparate themes, one in the New York City Camp Drag scene and the other in San Francisco featuring a dream-like pastiche of the working class strugglIng to make sense of a surrealistic world.  I will post screen shot synopes of both performances from the Whammy for those who want further info.  Tom Rubnitz's Psykho III The Musical, a camp drag version of Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho was droll and light heartedly entertaining in a home movie style much like John Waters' Pink Flamingo.  But it was a tough slog to watch  Curt McDowell's Taboo much like David Lynch's Eraserhead that was so ridiculously boring that my friends and I had to leave midway through.  I'm glad that Whammy is doing its thing. It's a store that seems transported from an alternate universe or that my passing through the gated portal transported me to that alternate reality. Enter from the rear of the building on Rampart and not Sunset Blvd. 4 stars for being an ultra customized reference center for the video specialist.

I came during the holiday season so it perfectly overlooks the giant tree and we even had a live Christmas performance right outside Everything is so well organized and has books for everyone and even some retail items like CDs and trinkets. There are a ton of places to sit and read a preview before buying any books. I loved how everything was organized and could wander around here for hours.

I was promised validated parking, yet I still had to pay the full parking price. I also intended to purchase the more affordable option, but it was out of stock at the time. My biggest concern was my phone interaction with Marie. She came across as rushed, apathetic, and unprofessional, and the call became increasingly frustrating toward the end. The level of service felt minimal and dismissive, and I ended the call feeling uneasy and without resolution. I am still uncertain whether my order was properly completed. Marie stated she was "pretty sure she clicked it" regarding my emailed receipt, but I have not received when I was on the call with her. I followed her instructions and checked both my spam and trash folders, with no success. She did say the email should be in my inbox, spam, or trash by the end of today. Additionally: * I was not given a total before my card was charged * I was not asked whether I am a Barnes & Noble member, which I am; I later had to call back to request a partial refund, and the way this was explained to me was confusing * The prices were $10-$20 higher per book, which was only explained after I questioned the charges Finally, rather than resolving these issues directly, I was referred to 1-800-THE-BOOK.
