Has a truly incredible night with two other couples - we started the night with a toast for all the celebrating we had to do. Add Cobra to the list of fantastic dining experiences you can have in Pittsburgh. Not only do they have a legit korean barbeque setup, but they're a nightclub and offer private karaoke rooms! I can only speak to the dining experience, but wow, it was lovely. Walking into Cobra immediately transports you into a different place and, dare I say, a different time. The worries of the outside quickly drift away once you're seated in the comfortable and unique dining area at one of Cobra's BBQ tables. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about both the drink and food menu. In addition, they are extremely educated on the various cuts of meat and "accoutrements" provided for your meal (spicy bean sprouts, kimchi, etc.) It's a lot to take in, but eager diners will be rewarded with one of the more unique experiences I've had in Pittsburgh. All of the meats were delicious and we loved mixing and matching as we worked our way through the Omakase II. I really only noted two down-sides (though both are subjective). The first is that they seem to get very, very busy - this isn't an issue if you use their easy, online reservation system, but if you have a sudden hankering for korean BBQ on a whim, you may be left out of luck. In addition, though I never felt a lack of personal space, the popularity and natural diversity of this establishment naturally leads to more people - usually, this isn't a problem and the dining area is definitely set up so you're comfortable, but it's worth mentioning in the COVID era for those taking extra care. read more

This place is amazing. Came here for dinner and drinks with a group a few weeks ago, food and entire experience was 10/10. The owners spent 1.5 years renovating the former Feng Japanese Steakhouse. Inside you'll find a beautiful cocktail lounge, dining room, dance floor, and three private karaoke rooms. The entire building, inside and out, is black with colorful neon adding an ultra-modern ambiance. Menu concept is Korean BBQ and yakiniku (grilled meat). The dining room consists of 10 smokeless Shinpo Yakiniku grills that seat up to six people at a time. You can choose to cook your meats and vegetables yourself (equipped with a guided tutorial from the server who continued to check on us frequently), or the kitchen can prepare your meal. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and guided us on how much to order. Many vegetarian and vegan options as well, we grilled some mushrooms but the highlight was the Japchae, a sweet potato noodle with shiitake, red pepper, carrot, scallion, yu choy and sesame. SO delicious! The meat eaters were overly satisfied and the dining and cooking experience was so fun for all. We also enjoyed many starters of various pickled vegetables, and rice was served with the grilled items. After dinner we made our way to the dance floor where the tunes were just getting started. They host nightlife events each weekend featuring various DJs. Each karaoke room is soundproof, holds about 12 guests, and can be reserved for 30-minute increments with a one-hour minimum. First time trying Korean barbeque and it was a very unique and tasty experience. The entire table tried the cobra omakase II. It is truly the best price to try a variety of meats. My favorite meat was the galbi meat. The marinade was delicious. Our server was very nice and since it was our first time there she went over absolutely everything on the menu and how to cook on on the barbeque. I walked in thinking this probably is not a very kid friendly place, but as we were leaving I did see a highchair. So if you have a baby, there are options here. read more

I visited Cobra for a surprise birthday party and I was very exited about it. This was a sushi / hibachi restaurant that my family would visit often when I was a child. The table was not ready for our reservation time but it worked out. The only issue with this is that there is a time limit for the tables and I'm sure that this is a stress on the servers and kitchen. We had a party of 5, I think 6 is the maximum for a grill table but I can see that it could be challenging to have room for this many people with so much food. The dining experience includes several components. The excitement is for the diners to cook for themselves on the table grill, it's a fun challenge!! Due to the number of people we opted to order a-la-carte instead of going with the Omakase offering. If we would have ordered the Omakase we would all have to have had the same things and we preferred to get more variety. Drinks: Bubble Pop: This is very fun! This drink style is very common at high-end establishments these days. I did not try. One member of the party was super happy with this and I recommended it to another member who came in later. She was not as excited. Ube Bae: This is a lovely drink, very lounge suitable. I could sip on a couple of these in the dance area or in a karaoke room (I plan to book one of these at some point). Clarity: Very clean and refreshing! Sugar Free French 75 (my custom birthday request): 75 thumbs up on this one! Thank you!! The bartender was very impressive in my opinion. It's hard to request custom "off menu" items anywhere and this was a wonderful end of the meal for me on my birthday. Foods: Mushroom Mandu Dumplings: These read well but I wasn't as happy I I hoped to be. I think this was because the kitchen was under a lot of pressure and this is one of the items that are not cooked by the diners at the table. Cucumber Salad: Decent flavors, refreshing and funky. The spiralized cucumber is whimsical but not practical for sharing however. Corn Riblettes: High marks from the gallery but I did not try. We had a ton of food! This is a hip item right now so why not? For the grilled items a hunk of Wagu fat is provided for periodic re-greasing. We used all of it! Zabuton "Little Pillow": Great choice for someone who wants a cheaper Wagyu option. I thought that dipping in the seasoning sauce and salt before grilling was very good. Head On Prawn: Excellent quality. Our server made a cooking time recommendation that was not right however. I tore the first one apart before it was ready. put it back on the grill and all was well but it was messy. Tojoku Tongue: Excellent quality but it was hard to decide the best grill time for this one. The butter was a nice accompaniment. Also tongue is a bit chewy in my opinion so it's not one of my personal favorite ingredients. Bulgogi: Some friends loved this but it was over seasoned for me. Same with the Galbi. It did cook very well, super tender. Shishito and Scallion: Great for this cooking method. I would have rather had these included in the price rather than some of the other pickled items that were offered as accompaniments. They were just ok. They included sprouts, kimchi, daikon, and something else. The very strong tastes of the pickles were overpowering in my opinion, especially when added to the dishes that were already marinated. Mushroom: King Trumpets, Shitakes, Maitaki. These were a little challenging to cook on the grill, mushrooms have a lot of water, they took the longest time to cook. It was a great meal! I will definitely come back with friends and family. The sound system in the main area is AMAZING. I love the concept of this place and I can't wait to book a karaoke room! read more

I have been wanting to come here since I moved to the city over a year ago and finally just made it. The wait was definitely not worth it. All the portions of meat are extremely small for the price. The taste was pretty good. But as of banchan (side dishes) they were awful. The bean sprouts were like tiny little thin bean sprouts no flavor just some sesame oil. Kimchi was disgusting. Had to pay $6 for lettuce wraps and they were so wilted they were awful. Even the rice tasted more like minute rice that real rice. Server was okay. This place is extremely good. I left very full even though it appears as if it'll be a small portion it isn't. Sake selection is also fantastic. The only hark I do have is that everyone must order omakase if that's what you're going with. I wish they just allowed you to order a smaller portion of omakase to allow yourself to try their other items such as the carbonara which we would have loved to share as an entree. The sake was excellent. The only thing not up to par was the cocktail. It was very small in a large glass with very little beverage and other tables did not appear like this so it might have been a one off but it also was not as tasty as it looks. Went here and wasn't really in the mood to do the full experience where you cook your own food so we decided to do the normal dining and order from that menu. 7/10 for the food. I had the Kimchi Carbonara with no pork and they were pretty good. The short rib skewer was really good. I didn't like how a lot of the menu options weren't available this day and the only chicken option was the chicken meatball which i didn't love. My friend had the Miso black cod and said it lacked flavor. However, that "Dream" cocktail is something to brag about! I give it a 10/10 i mean it was delicious! Can't wait to go back next year when they update their menu. Hopefully they'll add more pescatarian and chicken options. My group and I went outside for some air and learned we had to wait in a line until enough people left to get back into the event. We ended up just leaving. For the food I recommend a BBQ table. You'll have to book a few days in advance but it's worth it. Pricing all depends on what you order. Their famous Wagyu is at market place so it can be pricy. This is a really unique place for pittsburgh! We came on a weeknight, but definitely make a reservation because there weren't a lot of openings when we booked. And come hungry. There are multiple different areas. We chose the bbq table for the experience but there is also a lounge and bar area as well. The dark-lit room provides a wonderful ambiance and gives you a great sense of privacy. We started our dinner with the wagyu appetizer which was absolutely delicious. We opted for the second option on the set menu. It came with 4 different selections of beef, vegetables and lettuce wraps. I'll be honest, didn't seem excited about the lettuce wraps but it was a game changer! There were also some other smaller sides (kimchi, spicy bean sprouts, etc) to compliment your dinner. There are other options to order ala cart style, but we wanted to keep things easy for our first time. Choosing the set entree menu was definitely the way to go. It's such a unique experience and the food was outstanding. The only reason I can't give 5 stars is because the service was a little rough. We didn't receive super great instructions on how to cook the food so it was a bit of a learning curve for us since we had never been here before. The drinks also took an absurdly long time. Outside of those little hiccups, this was a neat restaurant and definitely worth coming to for special occasions! read more

We made a reservation for 6 people at the bbq table. It was everyone's first time trying out Korean BBQ and it was a lot of fun! Definitely one of the most unique restaurants in terms of ambiance. We all decided to do the Omakase II option to get a chance to try a bunch of different cuts, especially the A5 Wagyu. Our waitress was incredibly knowledgeable about everything on the menu, provided suggestions in terms of which cut to start with, how long to grill each cut, and what each of the banchans were. She was constantly checking up on us throughout our meal to see if we needed a refill on anything. It can definitely be overwhelming, especially if it's your first time, but the staff is always around to help out. Everything we had was absolutely fantastic, and it was a great dining experience. The banchans were fantastic accompaniments and provided a nice break from the rich meats. After getting a chance to try out the different meats in the Omakase II, I think next time we'd go back just for the Galbi and the short ribs - apparently if you get the meats a la carte, you still get the banchan which is nice, but I'd definitely add in those ssam packs - eating KBBQ with these just completes the meal. I do with they had some more typical banchan like the steamed egg....and maybe, eventually an AYCE option (Pittsburgh really needs an AYCE KBBQ spot). It does require some pre-planning if you want to reserve a grill table, as they seem to book a week or so out. We definitely plan to take advantage of their SsamStyle events on Wednesdays that gets you a few cuts of meat and a house cocktail (which are also fantastic) for $30! When we found out about Cobra it took us a few months to bite the bullet and try it out because it is a bit pricey. You get a better bang for your buck if you order a la carte but if you've never been to Cobra before, and especially if you've never had KBBQ before I recommend starting with the Omasake so you can get a feel for what it's like and try several different meats. Our favorite cut is definitely the short rib. But everything is to die for. The bon chon, the saam pack, all the meats we've tried have been good. We even tried the waygu fried rice and the cacio e Pepe off the lounge menu and they were incredible as well. The cocktails are fun and unique and seem to rotate pretty regularly! If you are looking for authentic Korean bbq, that's NOT the place to go. Based on the waiter's description, it's a bbq inspired by Korean and Japanese cuisine. Wagyu was great but hey when the meat quality is high, it will tasted great as long as not over cooked. What was bugging me is their kimchi. It's insulting to call a place inspired by Korean food. But, as it got closer to 8, the music started to get progressively louder and it had become difficult to continue a conversation. I would recommend the karaoke booths. I can't recommend the food. They use Karafun for the karaoke machines, so there's a nice selection of modern hits and classics. Since we arrived earlier than our reservation, we sat in the bar - I had the afloat tiki cocktail and it was not only lovely to look at, but really delicious and started my evening out with a pleasant buzz.
