He calls and says it's going to cost $140, then asks do I want to buy a battery for another $60. When checking prices on Amazon they run from $19-$50. I said I didn't want the battery. I get there and ask how much again, he tells me $217 I say what, he says for taxes. He is still trying to get me to pay for this battery I said I didn't want. What a crook. Of course there is labor but just lying and trying to make me pay for something I don't want. I would try other places and use them as a last resort. I told him I would have to leave my computer because I could not afford it, he said $150 but if I left a review on Yelp he'd give it to me for $140, the original price he told me in the first place.

I broke my laptop (screens crack to easily nowadays IMHO) and I did a some research to find a place to bring it to because I didn't want to mail it in to Dell. My husband and I settled on 10 Star Computers because of the great reviews on Yelp and other platforms. We tried getting in touch with them via their preferred method (call and text) and we are still waiting to hear one peep from them over a week later. Obviously, I went with a different company. I decided to go with my second choice a few days after not hearing from this company. It's just super disappointing to not even get a "sorry we are too busy to help you" or something reply. Even a "no" would have sufficed. Unprofessional and shady.

My original plan was to replace the charging port on my 10-year-old laptop (which was completely missing). Once I got there, they walked me through the options honestly. It turned out I could buy a newer laptop for not much more than the repair would have cost--and the charging-port quote itself was very fair. I'm glad I called. I ended up replacing my old machine and discovered another owner-operated business in this very corporate city. To top it off, I managed to do something stupid on day two with my new laptop. No worries--Doctors of Technology had me back up and running the very next day. These guys are the true Geek Squad--knowledgeable, honest, fast, and local. Highly recommended.

I found Mel on Yelp and decided to get an estimate from him. I told him that my computer suddenly stopped working and I have some pictures that I would like to retrieve. He told me "no problem," he would try and see if it was possible, and gave me worst-case scenarios and other options if he wasn't able to retrieve the files. I dropped off my PC at his business and he got right to work. A few days later, he informed me that due to the factory installation location of the memory stick right next to two high heat sources, the memory chip was fried. He asked if I would like to retrieve the data, explaining that he could send it to a specialist, but that it would cost an arm and a leg to do so. He found me the best deal on a trustworthy memory brand that would last me. I picked up my PC and he explained all he had done. He was able to find a different location for the memory stick and installed a heatsink to prevent future failures. My PC runs better than it did before. I would definitely be using him for other future repairs or PC builds!
