I'm sorry but $8 for a tiny cup of matcha?! I barely had any liquid in the cup because of the ice. I feel like I got ripped off. The worst part? The customer in front of me ordered the same drink, but hers was in a bigger glass. I was excited to check this place out while visiting rva from nova, but left very disappointed. I came here to get some work done, but the wifi didn't work either.. I also waited at the empty register for about 5 minutes before someone attended to me. The space and area is huge and modern, which I liked! The items I got were very average in my opinion though. I got this special latte they had on their signature menu, but it really just tasted like a normal latte. I also got a red velvet cookie that was extremely hard to bite through like a rock, and an English muffin sandwich that just seems like it was popped into the microwave. I don't think anything I got was worth the price. Service was quite slow for everything, but it seems like there were only three staff members when I went. They were nice, at least. read more

Just visited this Norfolk coffee shop's new location in Richmond for their Grand Opening and had a blast! It's always special to see a ribbon cutting in our city and the pure joy of the people behind a business. The lines were huge today (understandably so), but went by pretty quickly. The interior is HUGE. It's a really big community space with tons of indoor seating. There is seating by the bar, lots of huge tables in the back, and quite a few seats upstairs. There is even a children area. I believe this charming shop is below a church so has a lot of room for community space post service on Sundays. They have beans for sale from a place called Morningsong that seems to make their own special Coalescence espresso too. There is a lot of bright lighting in the space and it can easily hold a huge group of people. The baristas were very kind and welcoming even during a hectic/packed grand opening. I enjoyed my oatmilk lavender vanilla latte and my intern liked her iced mocha latte. We got the blueberry muffin and a canele. The muffin was a little off, but the canele was great. I highly recommend checking out this new-to-Richmond coffee shop. read more

Coalescence is a very nice coffee shop. I ordered a vanilla latte and a slice of lemon pound cake. Both were very good. The ambience was nice as the place is very clean. The barista was cool, warm, and friendly which is what I'm always looking for in a coffee shop. This place is good for groups too. There's an upstairs portion and a couple of sofas in the back of the coffee bar. I recommend coming on a Sunday for a quieter time, but really anytime is fine. read more

Came here when I was visiting a friend to get some work done. I love how spacious this coffee shop is. There is plenty of seating: both upstairs and downstairs. Perfect for studying/working or doing little group projects. I tried their seasonal iced pumpkin latte and it was really good! I love the environment here because it's not too noisy but has just the right amount of background noise. The staff are friendly too. This cafe is very clean and inviting. read more

This is a very modern cafe that has event spaces, kids area, and a meeting room. The coffee was solid but what really stood out was the customer service. Day one was busy and steady. The space includes a kids area and a Community Room. Probably one of the largest coffee shops in Richmond by space. Plenty of space to hang out and work. Massive space, more space to work than could possibly be needed, but it's a nice vibe! They have some really nice sounding speakers playing very chill music. Coffee is coffee nerd style made with gadgets and scales and they have a wide range of roasts, I had an oat milk latte which was very good. We have visited here twice. As other reviews have alluded to, one of the first things you notice when you walk in is the impressive size of the space. Plenty of options exist for seating, including an area with some cozier chairs in the main room, as well as what appears to be a more private space towards the back, away from noise. There is also a play area for kids upstairs. However, while the design is fairly minimalistic, the warmth and helpfulness of the baristas ensured that it was not a cold space. Our baristas took the time on both visits to answer our questions patiently and with a friendly demeanor. We tried two of the seasonal beverages and on my second visit I got a pourover. The seasonal Taste the Rainbow, an espresso-based beverage featuring a pomegranate-lime reduction and plum bitters, was outstanding--well-balanced, with usunsual but delicious flavors. The other seasonal espresso beverage we tried, the Island Vibes (which featured guava juice) was also tasty, but sweeter than we would have liked. The pourover menu is interesting in that it is divided into "tiers" by price, presumably based on factors like how unique the coffee is or what sort of processing went into it. The pourover I got, the Maguta, showed that Coalescence knows what it is doing in terms of treating high-quality beans right, with the blackberry and hibiscus notes coming through clearly. This was definitely not a case of simply dumping boiling water on hastily measured coffee grounds. It's clear that the brew was carefully dialed in. All in all, I would highly recommend Coalescence. It might not be the right place for someone looking for an in-and-out caffeine fix, but for those who like a little more passion put into their coffee, definitely add this to the list. I'll close by noting that we at first weren't sure about checking this place out because I've seen other reviews on here and Google that seem to simply be mistaken about which coffee shop they were reviewing, or perhaps a targeted campaign by a competitor or something of that sort. One mentioned over roasted beans, but this shop uses beans that lean more towards the light-to-medium end of things. And numerous ratings on Google appear to have been submitted on or around the same day this shop opened, but do not include a review. Very suspicious and, based on our experience, those dubious reviews should not deter anyone from visiting. read more

Coalescence in Richmond has a delicious selection of coffees, teas and baked goods . The gluten free cherry & pistachio muffin and lemon poppyseed bread are amazing. The bright atmosphere is a great place to get together with friends and meet new friends. I wish we had a Coalescence in Buffalo,NY, but when in Virginia again I'll be back to Coalescence. read more

prejudiced at best, whoever was working the counter by themselves on wed morning nov 5th was extremely blunt & rude, almost hostile, not a very good way to start your day. then she immediately & very unsubtly adjusted her attitude for the white lady standing behind me once it was her turn to order, nothing but smiles. this was my first time there & it will definitely be my last, i will continue to get my morning coffee at quirk where the baristas are pleasant & they don't charge u almost double for flavorings maybe don't move into a neighborhood if you don't even like your neighbors read more
