The splash pads are definitely a highlight during the summer and are a great way for kids to cool off while having fun. I also appreciated that there are shaded areas around the playground. While the shade doesn't cover every part of the park, it does provide some relief from the sun, which is especially helpful on warm days. The only downside is that when the weather gets extremely hot, it can be difficult to enjoy the areas that aren't shaded.

Years ago we came here for a school field trip where the kids got to play in the water area, which is perfect for a hot summer day. There's also swings and play equipment. The little kids enjoy the frog that sprays water. There is a public restroom next to the playground so you don't have to drag the little ones too far to use it. The rest of the park has some reservable picnic table areas with BBQs. You'll find 2 tennis courts way in the back, and also a horseshoe pit. Sometimes you'll see people playing volleyball at the sand volleyball court. There is a path that makes a loop around the park. People like to use it to walk or run laps. There is a pond that used to be filled with an unnatural blue color water. This would attract Candadian Geese to the park and they made a big mess pooping all over the park. There was a time when it got so bad that you could not safely stroll along the walkway without running into geese poop. Trying to avoid these land mines is not a fun way to enjoy the park. They've since turned off the water features and the geese no longer plague the park. The park is definitely much cleaner now. There is a small parking lot by the playground and also street parking along the street that leads up to the parking lot. The parking lot dead ends, but they have designed a roundish area at the end -- this area is not designated for parking in -- at the end to help you make a u-turn to drive back out. Sometimes it is difficult to make this u-turn when people park in this area. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=a3c15emWpHiehs81jdgHHw&userid=isQotFiKU_S_TI4Qt4MtMQ https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=7OFU_4ZnZNDS9b1LMP3QtQ&userid=isQotFiKU_S_TI4Qt4MtMQ https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=rxdAa2RDw46kCSADO9H7hQ&userid=isQotFiKU_S_TI4Qt4MtMQ .

There are two separate play areas, a smaller one that seems perfect for toddlers and another for bigger kids. There are swings, the cutest little slides, and plenty of different activities to keep the kids entertained. I also really appreciated that it's an inclusive playground, with equipment that allows children with different abilities to participate and enjoy the space too. And they didn't forget about the parents! There's a walking path around the play area plus exercise equipment, so while the little ones are playing, Mom can get some steps in or even squeeze in a workout. Lakewood Park is a beautiful, open space with play structures spread apart allowing each to be highlighted, explored and enjoyed individually. Multiple children are able to enjoy the same structure at once without fear of one stepping on the other or intruding on any small enclosed spaces. Our daughter weaved on and off different play structures during her time here, bouncing from one to another. Her engagement lasted about two hours. Each structure had so many spaces to explore, engage with and discover the different ways to interact with it. From the enclosed smaller kids play area, to the slides, swings in multiple variations, the exercise equipment, the webbed spinning globe, the three different seated spinners with one being wheel chair accessible, to the galactic looking structure with built in climbs, slides, crawl spaces and more. There are benches spread throughout the play area affording the big people places to sit and check in on their littles. One con is the lack of shaded seating or areas available to lessen sun exposure on intensely hot days. Today, the breeze was very present yet the sun shined brilliantly with temperatures near 80. I know it is certainly not the hottest of days Sunnyvale experiences, for the health of our daughter any temperature higher would not have permitted her to be present. Parking is street and limited for the number of visitors present. We are here on a Saturday afternoon, weekdays may prove different. There are no food stands close by, I would recommend bringing snacks and definitely having water on hand. There is a portion of park area under construction, thankfully it is contained and not available for littles to enter. I am excited to see what comes of the space. I would definitely recommend a visit, your little one with thank you. If you're not shy, your inner child with thank you too!
