Some regions run like well-oiled machines while others run in fits and starts. If the parents and other volunteers are well-organized, they can have a massive impact on the lives of the kids playing. Region 64 has been running at a fairly good pace for a long time and many people are driven to help the organization even though their own kids have long graduated. Here's to wishing for many more years of success of Region 64 and of AYSO as a whole.

I strongly regretted sending my kids to AYSO 64 for two seasons. In fact the organization worked…read morelike a circus. Here are the reasons: 1. Lack of professionalism. AYSO has been around for many years. But it's hard to believe they don't have a course agenda/plan for kids at each age group. Like what age and which week they should master what kind of soccer techniques, when to start teaching kids soccer formations/positions. You can probably hire two college students who majored in sports education to design it in a summer. But you don't find that in AYSO. 2. Irresponsible volunteers. That's due to bad management. In our teams, we had no team manager, no assistance coach, no referee, no goal parent. For two seasons! And the organization didn't do anything, they just allow free riders. The team can't function with so many absent positions. 3. Big-ego jokers. This is the opposite of those in option 2. I call these people jokers because they miss-positioned themselves in a kids program. Obviously you don't need any creditability to be volunteers here. So these jokers just came in and had always to be right. Imagine these people become coaches or referees. They cheat in games, they run over others ideas and they think they own this team. 4. Chaotic management: Our schedule and practice location has been changed back and forth. In one season we were promised to have at least 10 games but only had 8. Overall I don't think it's worth the time spending with AYSO. For younger kids ( under 8) I think it's probably an OK option for them to just running around. But if you want a relatively serious soccer program, I suggest you find somewhere else. After all no one wants to play soccer in a circus.

If it rains, instead of cancelling practice and leaving parents scrambling to pickup their children early, Coach Ken's staff will watch the kids and do soccer if there is an indoor space available so normal pickup time is not disrupted. If school has a minimum day, Coach Ken's program will hold practice earlier right after school gets out. Coach Ken also has soccer 1-day clinics on school holidays (half day or full day) which can be signed up for just a day or two in advance. This makes it very easy to have the kids get exercise and get off their screens on those school holidays. Coach Izzy is especially dedicated and good with the kids.

Coaching involves more than designing plays for free kicks or creating team formations. Coaching, especially at the youth level, involves accepting a huge responsibility as you are basically in a position of trust as parents put their kids in your care. The youth soccer coach wears many hats. Jay, in particular: 1) communicates positively 2) teaches soccer fundamentals 3) reviews soccer rules 4) directs kids in games 5) provides a safe environment 6) helps kids develop character (learning, caring, being honest and respectful, and taking responsibility) I hope Coach Ken and the management team can promote Coach Jay for going so far above and beyond a parent's expectations of service quality! Lastly, thank you to Ken and Dorothy for all that you do for our Community! We are grateful!

It took more than two weeks. Finally, they emailed that they had released his player card, and we took that email to our new club so our start could start practicing with them right away. Now, in March 2026, three months later, we learned from our current club that Sunnyvale Alliance never actually did release our son's player card, and NorCal will prohibit him from playing in the first game this weekend. It is infuriating to be lied to, and even worse when it's the child who suffers. We switched from SASC in the first place because our coach would pull players down from the top team to play in our team's games. I presume it was just so he could get wins on his record. This resulted in our son getting as little as 9 minutes of playing time in a 50-minute game. We decided to bring up our concerns directly to the coach in a polite, civil way. It was awkward because our Coach had virtually no communication with parents, and no relationship with them. He didn't even hold an initial meeting with parents at the start of the season. Anyway, when we addressed our concerns with him, he said he never brings players down from the top team. Which was ridiculous. He lied to our faces in front of the technical director, who backed him. The Byga app showed a record of the rosters from each game - and we started taking screen shots - and there were always 1 to 3 boys who played down a level and were permanent guests in our games. In one game when the team beat their opponent 11-0, our son played 12 minutes total. We witnessed him getting up from the bench in the first half and asking the coach, "Can I go in??" Later he told us the coach said, "After the next goal." Finally he got out in with 60 seconds left in the first half. He did start the second half, but when he made a mistake Coach pulled him out right away. Later he stated that our son asked him to not go back in. I didn't buy it, but even if it were true, I imagine it was from having his confidence trampled on. I honestly felt so terrible for the opposing team to be obliterated 11-0. What even is the point of that? In another game, all the boys from our team's roster showed up, and there were three guest players playing down. That day there were seven boys on the field and NINE on the bench. The inequity was so prevalent, so disheartening. And now this nonsense with our player card.
