But something about being here during winter was...magical. High class, intimate, romantic place for your partner and you to have a quiet getaway. The bar has fun cocktails both in the mansion and at the pavilion. The food was PHENOMENAL. My favorite was the truffle fries. They actually used real shaved truffle on top instead of just truffle oil like a lot of other places, so I appreciate the commitment to the craft. Complimentary breakfast was *chefs kiss*. Fun night time hangout at the fire pits with s'mores and brick oven pizza all night. I need to come back and stay in those cabins, I stayed in the mansion and it was the best sleep I've had in months. But you know what the stand out feature was? The staff. From the greeters, to the bartenders, to the management, they really made you feel special. Efficient, attentive, warm and welcoming. I can honestly keep going about how amazing the experience here was but I think I'll cut it here, just go see for yourself.

I expected better for almost $1000 per day. When we were there, salsa music played on the public beach nearby was LOUD ALL DAY. Not what you want in a retreat weekend. All the staff, though, were well trained and super nice.

The campus feels like stepping into another era, with charming architecture and a sense of place that only a property tied to America's oldest inn (1766) can offer. The staff were wonderful and attentive, and our room was spotlessly clean and clearly well cared for. The gas fireplace in our unit added a cozy, romantic touch, and the grounds themselves were a joy to walk. They still use real keys - not cards nor fobs. Breakfast was a pleasant surprise--coffee, tea, juice, boiled eggs, yogurt, bagels, and pastries--simple but fresh and satisfying. Dining at the Beekman Arms tavern was another highlight: fancy yet affordable, with delicious food served in a historic setting. But here's the hard truth: the bed ruined my stay. We stayed in Room 59, which had a king‑sized mattress that was brick‑like in its firmness. At home, I sleep on a fairly standard Sealy Posturepedic memory foam mattress with a memory foam pillow--nothing extravagant. Yet after one night here, my ribs felt bruised from side‑sleeping. I tried switching to my back, but that only left my spine out of alignment. By the second morning, I was standing under a 30‑minute hot shower at 6:30 a.m. just to calm the pain. There was no way I could have managed a third night. This inn is historic, beautiful, and lovingly maintained, with staff who clearly care about the guest experience. But until the beds are updated to match the quality of everything else, I can only recommend it with a caveat: come for the history, the food, and the charm--but avoid Room 59's king bed unless you're prepared to sleep on something that feels like it's been around since the 18th century.

The included breakfast was decent, but wish I didn't have to walk 3 blocks in the cold drizzle to get it. We stayed 2 nights and put the door tag on to receive housekeeping. We were out from 930-230 and came back to a letter saying they tried to service but couldn't. Feels more like they didn't want to and printed this letter? They had hours to have done it. Just seemed odd. All in all, for the price, it was an adequate stay.

A phone contact was attempted the next day, which we missed, but have heard nothing from The Greenhouse since. We've called, but she wasn't available. 5 days have passed and no contact - it's 2012: EVERYONE needs business, so we don't see how we're being ignored. Perhaps it's an interracial, same gender wedding problem they're having. We're not having a problem - all of their competitors have been more than happy to talk to us and give us estimates and we will spending our money elsewhere. Good luck staying in business with your attitude and lack of follow-through skills!

Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses. Because of this, I try to give people the benefit of…read morethe doubt. So, when I had some initial uneasy feelings about hiring Lisa Riso, owner and head florist of The Greenhouse at Rhinebeck, to be our florist and secured the greenhouse barn for our venue, I gave her the benefit of the doubt. This was a huge mistake. First I will acknowledge Lisa's strengths. Lisa is amazingly creative at arranging flowers. She has a well-developed eye for aesthetics as evidenced by the incredibly beautiful renovated barn on the property, which was our wedding venue. There is no questioning her talent; her work is absolutely stunning. My objective is to focus on facts here. Responsiveness: Lisa is unpredictable. According to my records, she only did what she said she would do twice. To her credit, she did meet me at the linen showroom to discuss colors. However, my hope is that the following example will provide insight into how horrible my experience was in working with her. It was the WEEK of our wedding (to happen at The Greenhouse). I had been asking Lisa for the past 3 WEEKS to email me a final total for the flowers. I emailed her, I called her cell phone (and spoke directly to her and she reported she would send it at once!), I left messages at the shop. No response from her. I was left to resort to behaviors I'm not proud of. I left a VM message for her on her cell phone stating that I will be calling her every hour until I heard from her (remember, it was the WEEK of our wedding). It took 3 hours to hear from her. Professionalism: I received the final total the day I called every hour. The total was $1000 MORE than previously discussed. As a result of this increase, I wanted to make changes. Lisa called my home that night at 10pm ranting and raving that we could not make any changes. My now husband took the call, I was 2 rooms away and could hear her screaming. She was irrational and threatened to CANCEL our wedding that was only 3 DAYS away! I was really confused as this felt like it came out of the blue. Furthermore, during that call she demanded that we pay her in CASH the very next day for the flowers and the final venue payment (even though I was asking for this total for 3 WEEKS, and we sent a check earlier in the week for the barn). Out of fear that she would cancel the wedding, we complied with her request and as a result, paid $1000 MORE for our flowers. It was not practical for either of us to leave our jobs the next day and drop of the cash. Lisa, EXTREMELY irritated, provided us with a UPS account to overnight a check. We did this. It turns out however, that he USP account was cancelled; as a result, she stuck us with the bill. The centerpiece example. I LOVED my original centerpieces. I approved to have a smaller centerpiece that the trial one in order to reduce cost (this decision was made prior to the final price list). The day before the wedding, I viewed the final pieces. They nearly completely different! Lisa reported that they were the same. They were not. She stated she took a picture of the original (I STRONGLY DOUBT THIS). I did not ask to see the picture for fear that she would become irrational and cancel our wedding. To her credit, she took the UNREQUESTED yellow roses out of the arrangement as per my friend's request on my behalf. Our caterer further validated her lack of professionalism when they reported she did not show up when she said she would for their walk through. They fortunately let themselves into the building. They also reported that it was very difficult to have her return their calls. The rental company also reported that she refused to allow them to drop off equipment when "needed to" (this is according to them) she allowed this to occur only the DAY before our wedding. Value: I did not "shop around" therefore, I'm not sure I can speak to this. My husband feels that given the quality of flowers, the value feels "about right". I feel I can not accurately report on this because of my experience with Lisa's level of responsiveness, and professionalism. Flexibility: Lisa was flexible with her creativity. For future brides: The venue is beautiful. No doubt about it. I will however, only accommodate 80 people. Lisa told us that it would hold 100. This is not true. We had 85 and it was VERY tight. It was worth dealing with her level of professionalism and responsiveness for the venue. I would however, STRONGLY ENCOURAGE selecting another florist. For me, as a bride, it was important that I could trust people. I needed to work with vendors who did what they said they would do. Lisa did not do this.

"that room isn't ready yet, just a few more minutes." She took my cell number and said she'd let us know when the room was ready and we decided to soak up the A/C in the front lobby for a bit. 3:30 p.m. and... nothing yet so we opted to hit the town to explore and when we got the text we would come back. 5 p.m. and... still no text but we circled back figuring the room must be good-to-go by now. A different lady behind the counter seemed to make it like it was on us for the delay/issue. (So not cool, let's be real.) The room? Clean. The bathroom? Clean. The beds and pillows? Comfy, all around. The TV? Kind of weird... sometimes the picture blacked out, sometimes it went haywire, sometimes it was a-okay for a spell. Okay, we can live with (all of) this. (Even if our 'view' was the parking lot and Target across yonder.) Later we decided to snoop around. Gym - clean with a few machines, a bench and plenty of dumbbells. The pool was chilly and ridiculously chlorinated. (You might think I'm exaggerating but the next day the black drawstring on my boardshorts were now brown from the amount of chemicals I was wading through. No joke.) The hot tub was... kind of warm. We hit the lobby-lounge later in the evening for drinks and they had a decent selection of beers (all "the classics") as well as Starbucks, water, soda, some snacks, the usual. Check-out the following morning was easy-peasy. I'm not against returning in the future but I do think we'd see what else is in the area first.

Staff are friendly. Only a few things to be aware of that made this review/experience 4 stars and not 5.... 1) pool and hot tub have a lot of chlorine in them. If you have sensitive skin you'll just need to be aware and plan for that. Daughter broke out in hives afterwards but nothing a shower couldn't fix 2) hot tub was luke warm at 100 degrees but I actually loved this because our kids could enjoy without being too hot but for adults, I can see you wanting it a few degrees warmer 3) TV in our room wasn't a smart tv so we couldn't connect to Netflix so bring a fire stick with you. These are all pretty minimal things but wanted to mention for others. Again, staff were amazing. Location is perfect (across from Target) and we will absolutely come back. Highly recommend!
