Check in was super easy and parking is easy right on the property. I easily sent her an email to book. The views are really gorgeous, overlooking the reservoir and Catskill mountains. Can't beat it if you go in October and catch foliage ! It's actually closer to NYC than some other places in the Valley. We stayed in the Meadow Suite which has a spacious bathroom and super comfortable bed. Anne Marie provides wine glasses and an opener. Also appreciated the space heater because some nights were chilly. I believe there is a hot tub if you rent the other suite. Anne Marie gave us some firewood to lit a fire one night, the property has a fire bowl, and pavilion where you can eat a great breakfast. We got breakfast one day - Anne Marie delivered that and coffee right outside our door. My husband had a delicious farm egg omelette with sautéed veggies and melted cheese, along with chicken sausage and toast. She prepared a crafty apple French toast for me with raisin cinnamon bread and chicken sausage. Yum yum yum. She's very accommodating, but definitely get the French toast! In Mid Oct, it was about $200 a night per stay. Definitely recommend this if in the area! We hung around Big Indian, Phonecia and did activities up in Hunter Mountain. Woodstock is also very nearby.

It was, as expected, the most relaxing and fun few days.... And was definitely needed after our big day. Anne Marie is a wonderful host, and her stuffed blueberry French toast is the stuff of legend. There are plenty of places for hiking, antiquing, tubing, eating, or anything else your heart could desire relatively nearby, and Anne Marie will provide you with recommendations that do not disappoint no matter what you want to do. We have only stayed in the reservoir suite, but I'm sure the other suites are equally amazing. I can't recommend Ashokan Dreams enough if you're looking for a relaxing stay at a charming place with unbelievable views of the mountains and reservoir right through your window. I say that in the most respectful way and only mean to say that I'm guessing the whole shebang would be next to nothing without her touch, her oversight and her attention to detail. The detail in the rooms, the perfection at breakfast, the lovingly manicured grounds, assorted wonderful nooks... at first I was wondering what there is to DO in Highland and, to be honest, I'm still not sure... but given the bike path, beautiful scenery and Inn At Twaalfkill, I'm not sure what else you need. I'm not always a fan of B and Bs... they can tend to be a little twee and you feel like you have to tiptoe around... partially because the walls in a good hotel are much thicker, the spaces less cramped, your anonymity more protected. There may be a bit of that tip-toeing here (the floors are pretty squeaky and you are worried that you are making too much noise for someone on a different sleeping schedule) but that is the only downside. We had just spent two nights in a pretty nice hotel in Beacon. The room was over 50% more expensive than here and, while large enough, there was not one square foot of horizontal space to put anything down in the bathroom.... The room at Inn at Twaalfill had so much guest-friendly space (especially in the bathroom), you would not likely have a use for all of it. If all B&Bs were this great and this price, I would never stay anywhere else.

A walk or bike on the nearby rail trail to the river is always beautiful. This is our place to reset, recharge, and relax.

We got the breakfast package and both mornings they put together an awesome breakfast for us up at the main house. We stayed in Mr. Ed's Annex, which had a nice little kitchen (they supply most of the basics in terms of pots/pans/utensils, so don't feel like you need to lug a bunch of kitchen stuff with you) and an awesome steam shower in the bathroom. The bed was super comfy and the space as a whole was nice and cozy. There was a little backyard area overlooking the horse pen with a grill and hammock, but given that mid-March is peak mud season and rather chilly, we did not put that area to use. The chickens, goat, and dogs greeted us whenever we went outside. The goat took a shine to both of us as evidenced by his insistence upon gently headbutting us when we pet him. Up by the main house there is a hot tub, which we used twice - so relaxing! We definitely would come back again!

The website promised "a few minutes" from the station and "close to everything." Translation: a sweaty 20-minute uphill slog with luggage, and "everything" meaning the Sunoco gas station across the street. Which, ironically, turned out to be the best part of the stay. Inside, the welcome was a fog of burned pancake fat, which gave way to mildew and damp as we reached our quarters. We were put in 'The White Room', downstairs, right next to the kitchen -- which, naturally, had the shared ensuite bathroom tacked on. Yes: an ensuite. For the kitchen. Nothing says "boutique comfort" quite like brushing your teeth while someone fries bacon two feet away. The only thing it had in common with the Beatles' 'White Album' was that both left me baffled as to why anyone thought it worth releasing. The room itself was tiny, the paint flaking off the window frames, a duvet stripped of its cover, and the general feel of a place assembled with chewing gum and denial. For this, on a holiday weekend, we paid a small fortune -- money I would honestly rather have set on fire in the street. And those glowing reviews? So wildly out of step with reality that you'd be forgiven for thinking they were written by doting relatives, or perhaps an industrious little bot farm somewhere east of Minsk. Beacon is lovely. Febreze was heroic. But this B&B? Never again.
