Our wedding day at the inn at the ridge
    Danielle M.

What can I really say about this place? Well, actually tons. Let me start by saying I think Sal & Bev are the sweetest people ever! I had my wedding here in June. Sal & Bev made my family and I feel like home. Their place is the cutest bed and breakfast I have ever seen. It's well maintained, the decor is amazing. When my tents were delivered from a company that I hired they blew away from 85 mph winds. My wedding was the next day, while everyone was getting crazy and loud, Sal automatically calmed everyone down, took the phone and called my rental company. He told them the situation and asked what can be done. He was on top of everything the day of my wedding!!! I mean just amazing. Him and Bev are the best. So kind hearted and accommodating. Both of them are excellent cooks! I mean their scones and crumb cake are to die for. The French toast was my fav. You might as well never eat it again if it's not from them!!! Fresh jam, bacon. Shall I continue? I woke up every morning with a cup of tea and my daughter and I would sit on the pouch and watch the cows. When I went back home to queens I thought now I know why people live in Wallkill. We will return back next year and make it a yearly tradition. To anyone who is thinking about staying for a few days I would say go for it. It's worth every penny!!!

My husband and I got married here in November of 2022 after a patient two year waiting period after booking in 2020! We toured the premises and immediately saw the love and design that Sally and Doug put into creating this special place. We call our wedding a glorified thanksgiving dinner. It was centered around filling the four walls of the greenhouse space with long tables, family style service, and so much love. The Greenhouse was already so beautiful we barely chose to add anything to it for our ceremony. Some beautiful perks of this space include a TRULY pet friendly space, gratuities included in event pricing for ease, the venue is yours and your peoples for the whole weekend (none of that, "which wedding are you here from?"), a picturesque backdrop from all angles, and plenty of incredible vendors that know this space and stay passionate about working with them. I woke up on the morning of my wedding, had breakfast with my husband-to-be, and had the most relaxing and stress-free day knowing that I was seconds from my room in case I needed/forgot something and that I was already at my venue. There was a complete ease through the day-of-timeline and after the ceremony, we had returned to our room to sign the marriage license to find Audrey's staff even cleaned up our space and left us fresh chilled champagne and snacks from cocktail hour. We have yet to stop getting compliments from guests on the food, the drinks, and the customer service. I couldn't have asked for a better gift than getting to spend the money to have a wedding weekend here, to fully take our time with and absorb all of the love that surrounded us. THANK YOU from the bottom of our hearts to the whole team.

Over the years we've stayed at a few nice hotels. Minnewaska Lodge is now at the top of my favorite places. Minnewaska Lodge is centrally located to all of our favorite spots. Driving our Tesla from Long Island, we stopped for lunch at our favorite diner, charged up at a Tesla supercharger station and pulled into the Lodge parking lot around 3pm. The view is just commanding. This large lodge with the mountains as a back drop is post card perfect. After we received our keys and stored our luggage, we went to a local farm stand for a bottle of local wine as well as local cheese and crackers. I tried to light a fire but each deck heater had issues. Sitting outside and just enjoying the natural beauty was worth the room price. Not only was the staff friendly, the guests were also very engaging. Almost chipper! We're playing cards in the main dining room while sipping on our local wine purchase and people were stopping by to talk to us. It really made our overall stay extra special. Our room was equally impressive. We had an outdoor deck that opened up to the same view as the main lodge. The bed was comfortable, the shower products were high end and the welcome note was a nice touch. It was a short weekend but Minnewaska Lodge checked all the hospitality boxes to make our stay special. I cannot wait to return!

The entire area is fenced in, and I felt very comfortable letting my dog roam around. I stayed at the cottage, which came with its own patio, and had a kitchen, living space with a large TV, comfortable queen bed, and clean bathroom. I highly recommend it. I initially thought it was too much space for me and the dog, but it turned out to be great. Lots of space for the dog to roam around when it started to rain and it had a beautiful, bucolic environment. I also chose this inn for the breakfast, and Bernetta did not disappoint. She makes everything by hand and you can tell how fresh it is. I was welcomed with two homemade and delicious chocolate chip cookies. She offered two types of coffee, a flavored coffee and a regular one, and breakfast came with a freshly baked good. I stayed for two days. Saturday had a savory breakfast, and Sunday had a sweet one. Both were delicious. To highlight how fresh everything was, Bernetta had chosen fresh apples local to the area for the sweet Sunday breakfast. Bernetta is also an excellent host. She offered great tips and restaurant and activity recommendations. She's easy to talk to and went out of her way to make my dog and I feel comfortable. She also has a beautiful and friendly dog that loves to play. My dog and I cannot wait to come back!

With a little luck, I managed to book a room for two nights during Labor Day weekend with only about a week's notice at the Botsford Briar. I found it on the internet, having never before been to Beacon, a little escape I had planned because of hiking, kayaking, the Dia: Beacon, the boat to tour Bannerman Castle, and Main Street were all within walking distance. I arrived quite early on Saturday via train and headed up to Main Street. I had a kayaking tour reservation and had planned to do that before checking in at Bostford Briar. However, when there was some miscommunication and the tour left without me, the folks at Mountain Top outdoor store called the proprietors of the Botsford Briar (yeah, it's that small of a town) to see if I could check in early. And all was well; they were happy to take me early. My room was ready and I headed over...and up the rather steep hill of High Street. Charlie met me halfway up the hill and insisted on taking my bag the rest of the way. The house is charming and looks just as it does on the website photo. Inside, it's filled with curiosities on the first floor. I met Shirley there too. Throughout my stay, she and Charlie were wonderful. They took the time to try to find an alternate kayaking solution for me, suggested restaurants, went to the trouble of having my breakfast ready quite early on my last morning there since I had to leave before the normal time, etc. I stayed in the Wisteria Room, which was lovely. The bed was comfy. There were a couple of chairs as well as a table with two dining chairs with bottles of water on a tray. In case it was needed, there was an AC unit. Lots of sunlight could come in through the generous windows (though you could pull curtains and shades too). Wifi was free. The TV wasn't a flat screen, but I didn't watch it so, who really cares? The room had wonderful charm and was clearly lovingly decorated. The bathroom was a private one down the hall. However, they've thoughtfully added a curtain one can pull to really make that whole wing private (so you don't feel odd walking to the bathroom in your pajamas; nobody can see you). I loved the claw foot tub and had a nice soak each night. It was a large bathroom with nice towels and was meticulously clean. I spent a good portion of both evenings watching the sunset on the beautiful shared deck out back. It's at the top of High Street and you can see down and across the Hudson River. It's beautiful and a wonderful quiet spot (or a place to chat with other guests, as I did the second evening). Also shared for the guests is a small room with a fridge, cupboard (thoughtfully stocked with glasses, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc.), and a single serving coffee maker for anything you wanted to make or store yourself. Breakfast was quite generous. There was one freshly baked (and still warm!) item each day along with other breads, a fantastic fruit plate, juice, and coffee. The only thing I would have added would have been a hard boiled egg or something so that I could get in a little protein. But with what was provided, I really wasn't lacking at all in nourishment. It's brought to your room at your chosen time on a tray. The location is great. It's easy walking distance to the train station, Dia: Beacon, boat launch, and Main Street. It's within walking distance of a trail head for hiking as well though you should know that it's a long hike in itself up Main Street to reach it. I'm so glad I came to Botsford Briar to get away. It's so clear how much love (and personal talent/handiwork) Charlie and Shirley have put into the place. And they really take pride in making it a wonderful retreat. I wouldn't be surprised if I found myself back there again when weary of the city.

The decor of the room and the b&b are not my particular taste, cluttered, heavy fabrics, heavy wooded furniture. Taste is subjective though and I could imagine another person may enjoy. The air conditioner is positioned in such a way that it blows directly on the bed. I found sitting out on the deck to be noisier than we hoped for...can hear the train whistle and cars on a road in the distance. The morning breakfast spread had coffee, juice, pastries and fruit, none of which were of the best quality. I only met Charlie who was friendly and very helpful. I spoke to a woman who I believe is the owner by phone while booking and when we were likely to arrive after their 9pm time limit and our phone personalities did not mesh well.

The bed was super comfy and the space as a whole was nice and cozy. There was a little backyard area overlooking the horse pen with a grill and hammock, but given that mid-March is peak mud season and rather chilly, we did not put that area to use. The chickens, goat, and dogs greeted us whenever we went outside. The goat took a shine to both of us as evidenced by his insistence upon gently headbutting us when we pet him.
