Bed but no breakfast…read more We stayed in colonial Kingston for a conference and planned on staying for 3 nights, however we soon realized how terrible a host Bel, the innkeeper was. Upon arrival Bel assumed we drove to Kingston. I'm not sure why this assumption was made as there is a train station in the neighboring town which takes you directly to Manhattan. Rather than giving us the room we agreed upon via telephone, she put us in a creepy room not attached to the same building: actually it which was several blocks away from the main inn. Because we had no car, she squeezed us into her filthy pick-up truck and dropped us off and rushed out. No mention of what time and where breakfast was served. We were not provided any breakfast the morning after our first night's stay and she did not answer her phone around 7:00 a.m. when we wondered about this. This was confusing as the inn is marketed as a "Bed and Breakfast". We found our own breakfast and went on with our day. When we returned to our room in the evening, our room was not made. It was shocking as this is standard practice among the hotel industry regardless of whether you stay at a lower end BnB or at a high-end hotel. By then we were disgusted at how unprofessional she was and thus we told her we would only stay 2 nights (over 24 hours notice). By the second morning we called her inquiring about breakfast a second time. She simply replied by saying "well I can feed you if you want". How unprofessional and unwelcoming. Why run an inn if you do not want to welcome your guests? Although we gave her over 24 hours notice of our departure (again, the standard in the hotel industry) Bel still unjustly charged us for the third unused night. She also failed to give us our receipt, and we had to ask her 5 times for it. Only 3 days post-departure did we receive the receipt. After reviewing my banking, she had actually already charged the room prior to check-in. I would recommend avoiding this place at all costs.

Felt like a long lost friend I've had for years. Great, kind, gentle, beautiful soul the owner of the house is. Coming from Boston, I arrived to this beautiful Victorian with a huge lovely porch which is very tastefully decorated. The whole house is clean, smells amazing great decor, and Bel cooks one of the loveliest breakfasts. Omelette, coffee, juice, and granola/fruit/yogurt, turkey bacon. A++++ hostess! My room had a king poster board bed and one of the comfiest mattresses I've ever slept on. I can't say more good things about this place. But if you want a nice place to hang your hat, where you make a friend in the end Bels inn is where it's at. Excellent service, she's knowledgable about the town and places to go. It's the perfect getaway to de-stress and unwind meet amazing people and enjoy life, what was exactly what I needed. The prices are very reasonable and worth every penny! I'll be back very soon! My new home away from home!

Check in was super easy and parking is easy right on the property. I easily sent her an email to book. The views are really gorgeous, overlooking the reservoir and Catskill mountains. Can't beat it if you go in October and catch foliage ! It's actually closer to NYC than some other places in the Valley. We stayed in the Meadow Suite which has a spacious bathroom and super comfortable bed. Anne Marie provides wine glasses and an opener. Also appreciated the space heater because some nights were chilly. I believe there is a hot tub if you rent the other suite. Anne Marie gave us some firewood to lit a fire one night, the property has a fire bowl, and pavilion where you can eat a great breakfast. We got breakfast one day - Anne Marie delivered that and coffee right outside our door. My husband had a delicious farm egg omelette with sautéed veggies and melted cheese, along with chicken sausage and toast. She prepared a crafty apple French toast for me with raisin cinnamon bread and chicken sausage. Yum yum yum. She's very accommodating, but definitely get the French toast! In Mid Oct, it was about $200 a night per stay. Definitely recommend this if in the area! We hung around Big Indian, Phonecia and did activities up in Hunter Mountain. Woodstock is also very nearby.

It was, as expected, the most relaxing and fun few days.... And was definitely needed after our big day. Anne Marie is a wonderful host, and her stuffed blueberry French toast is the stuff of legend. There are plenty of places for hiking, antiquing, tubing, eating, or anything else your heart could desire relatively nearby, and Anne Marie will provide you with recommendations that do not disappoint no matter what you want to do. We have only stayed in the reservoir suite, but I'm sure the other suites are equally amazing. I can't recommend Ashokan Dreams enough if you're looking for a relaxing stay at a charming place with unbelievable views of the mountains and reservoir right through your window. This was our first B&B experience.....and it was wonderful…read more The building is quaint and clean, filled with beautiful antiques. The B&B has 5 rooms, and only the first night it was full. We stayed in the Ivy room on the second floor and only heard the smallest bits of noise from other people coming in. The room was a touch small, but we had a queen bed and a love seat along with a large closet. The bathroom was spectacular, spacious with a Jacuzzi and lots of bubble bath! Breakfast is served at 8:30 am sharp, which I enjoyed, great initiative to get an early start on the day. We shared one large table with everyone and it created a great way to meet the others occupants and learn about things to do in the area. Yvonne is a great cook and each breakfast was delicious. The building has a nice parlor off the living room with lots of books and a TV. We spent an evening in there watching GOT. There is a wonderful font porch with several chairs. And then in the back a large patio. The B&B is a couple blocks from the main intersection of Rhinebeck on the way up to Red Hook. And lastly Yvonne is very knowledgeable of the area, if your looking for what to do she is a great source of ideas. One one minor critique is I wish the room had been a touch warmer.

About 15 minutes drive to Kingston. We weren't able to enjoy breakfast as we had meals pre-planned, but Rob was nice enough to pack us a to-go breakfast our final morning to eat on the road, complete with a cut-up orange in a Ziplock baggie. I'm a coffee lover and the coffee was plentiful, strong, but not burned. We'll stay here again and again!

For breakfast, you get to choose and order the night beforehand on a very thorough breakfast menu. And they prepare your breakfast right when you arrive at your preferrred time to the kitchen. An experience you will not get anywhere else! They have a plate of the freshest sweetest fruits ever waiting for you when you arrive, along with your requested beverage(s)... for us coffee and orange juice. A pitcher of OJ just for you. MMMM. I wonder where they pick the fruits from. Hm. After that, they feed you a croissant (being that I ordered blueberry pancakes), i just stared at my dude begin to stuff himself. And ta da- BLUEBERRY pancakes with BACON. it was so amazing. I'm not fond of big pancakes as it gets dried quick. David Smythe perfected the mini mes with flaky airiness and crispy sides. MMMMM. And perfectly cooked bacon. HEAVENLY. the aroma will also knock you off your feet while you wait. So the next morning, I order it again! This place has been PERFECTION. NOM NOM NOM NOM. Airbnb screwed up! It was 6pm at night when I called Beth Pagano. She still was a week away from opening due to Covid but she gave me one of her nicest rooms. I was so grateful and she is an excellent host. If anyone is looking for accommodations in the mid Hudson valley, the Grand Dutchess is perfect. My room was beautiful, clean and welcoming. You can walk into town for a coffee or dinner. Location is perfect. I can't wait for my next visit.

Poor quality, poor customer service…read more Cute in theory, horrible execution. Felt like a true crappy motel and I feel robbed at $300+/night. Cons: - shower gets COLD quickly and when the toilet is flushed - loud traffic noise (large trucks use the road all night) - room is dark - no front desk service - mildew/mold in bathroom grout and on ceilings - improper room booking - poor business ethics, refusal to own up to their error Pros: - room included coffee, milk, and popcorn - room had mini-split A/C We booked a two night stay as part of a wedding block. No one picked up the phone and it took three attempts across two days to make a reservation, which we made over three months ahead. In the call they asked if we wanted two beds or one king. We told them we had two kids so we definitely wanted two beds. They let us know they only had one room with two beds- great, yes we want to book that room. They told us the differing rates of the rooms and we confirmed that we wanted the double bed room. I didn't get a confirmation email at the time (which I chalked up to their lack of a typical front desk/reception person). ETA: they did finally send a confirmation email one week before we arrived, but we had already left for our trip by that point. Fast forward to three months later... When we arrive, turns out they've put us in a room with just one king bed. There's no "front desk" so you have to text for service. The solution was to offer us a crappy twin air mattress (with sheets only, no comforter??). We still have 4 people... so that meant three of us in one bed aka no sleep (add on the noisy road traffic... they clearly didn't spring for noise insulation in their remodeling). How do they not even have cots?? The air mattress deflated through the night (as cheap ones do). They also clearly didn't upgrade their plumbing; the shower gets cold after 5 minutes and when people flush the toilet. There is no ventilation in the bathroom so there is mold/mildew on the ceiling. Our bathroom sink had a huge gap of cracked caulk and the vinyl plank flooring in the room was bumpy and uneven. Basically this whole place screams cheap DIY remodel and is a total rip off at more than $300/night. The worst part of this experience is that they refused to own up to their mistake. I knew from our phone conversation that they only had one room with two beds. Obviously I would not have booked a stay there if that room was not available. So either their booking person lied to me about its availability OR they forgot to reserve that room for us. Their response to my complaint was "we can refund you but we'll have to charge the bride who had the block." What?? Rather than admit their error and try to rectify their mistake, they want to penalize a third party? Because they chose not to have real staff that is trained to properly make a room reservation? Garbage service.
