We stumbled on the Inn at the Ridge through some Google searching. We only spent two nights, Friday and Saturday, so we were treated to Sal's weekend cooking. Easily among the best food at a B&B that we've ever had. When I booked, I didn't realize that I had booked the one room with a disconnected bathroom. Yes, it's private, but downstairs. Since the Inn wasn't completely full, they offered to relocate us to another open room, we didn't ask, they just suggested it. The house is old, like real old, so expect some quirks like wide creaky floors etc. The beds were quiet though, which was the important thing. Each room is uniquely decorated. The Inn is a nice distance from busy areas but not so far as to be a hardship. It's extremely close to Angry Orchard's Innovation cider mill, a state park with great trails, and even a little college town. I could probably go on, but Yelp's review editor is giving me issues. We'd definitely stay here again if we're in the area.

Our room was very comfortable with a king-sized bed. The location was perfect - close to Minnewaska state park, as well as several nearby towns and a few good restaurants. The breakfasts were the highlight of the experience! One of the hosts is a CIA-trained chef and he made fabulous food for us - chocolate-stuffed french toast, a great frittata, and more. They serve breakfast at a communal table, which is nice for getting to talk to the other guests there. We would definitely stay here again.

It seemed rather small, but was the perfect size for their wedding (although, the way the tables were set up left very little room for dancing...). They have a stage in one corner, behind which was a curtained-off area they had set up as a photo booth. And in another corner is an actual bar. On the walls are old posters from what I think was a cement company? Not sure if these were part of the wedding or part of the venue... Throughout the venue are awesome glass wall sconces, which I'm sure were created when it was a glassblowing studio. The same for the little glass circles in the cement at the entrance to kitchen. Petra and Louis were very friendly. They had a cocktail hour in the little park behind the venue and we had arrived early. I had to go to the bathroom, and despite the rule that you had to go around front, they could tell I had to go and they let me go in through the kitchen. :) Overall, I would describe it as "unique and intimate." It was then our turn to go up to the buffet- we could not find where to get the plates from. There were mini plates around but if you wanted a larger plate you had to wait inline for the kids and breakfast buffet. The food was just not good at all and very unorganized. The hashbrowns and Waffles were hard as rock, couldn't cut into them, bacon was practically raw, and items that should've been kept warm weren't. The stations were constantly empty. I would like to love this place, hopefully they will improve.

What used to be dignified civil society has become a sewer mass of immorality and degradation where the debased and degraded is lauded as the accepted cultural norm. Yes the facilities of this enterprise are just fine - new, "modern" in all its expected respects, but I was speaking of something far greater than all of that. Do not simply accept and go along with what this present culture has become; because it's now the world around you does not mean you cannot stand up and speak out against it. Invariably you'll get the immature and unprofessional response below - in my day businesses would have apologized, perhaps tried to explain in a more conciliatory matter to the prospective patron that sometimes communiques can become more casual when people are feeling more comfortable (although the regular outgoing company newsletter should not and never be) and to apologize for the laxity. In this case, not only was there no such apology, the result is for the person speaking to be ostensibly "removed" from the sphere of discussion, "cancelled" if you will out of the recipient's domain; obviously it was just your particular sensibility that was offended, no real violation of cultural norms had occurred so we don't need to even take you seriously or offer you the civilized respect of a discussion about it. My point is, the more you don't speak out and allow garbage, the more garbage you'll find around you, and it is all around us now, no matter how new and shiny the surface. ---------------------------------------------- Me: Hello could you please refrain from including curse words or ostensibly covered up curse words in your newsletters, e.g., "Perfect for folks who have a short-term project and just need a private space to get $h!t done." Per our signed contract, appetizers were supposed to be served to our guests -- they were not. This was a major part of what we paid for and an important detail during our wedding reception. After bringing this to their attention, I was offered $1,500, which I did not agree to accept, and I was told the owner would personally call me back to discuss the matter further. It has now been several months, and despite multiple attempts to follow up, I have received no callback and no resolution. What has been most upsetting is the lack of accountability and communication regarding the negligence of the maître d' and the handling of our concerns afterward. A wedding is a once-in-a-lifetime event, and while mistakes can happen, ignoring your clients after the fact is unacceptable. At this point, I am publicly asking for an owner to contact me directly to properly address this situation. I truly hoped for better customer service and professionalism from a venue with this reputation.

April was a dream to work with: So knowledgeable, helpful, and always available for both big and small questions/concerns. She even gave us the best last-minute decor suggestions during our ceremony rehearsal. We absolutely cannot imagine the wedding planning process without her! As for the space, we fell in love immediately. Senate Garage was the perfect in-between space for us: Not a ballroom or a barn or a loft space; a space that could be customized, but was absolutely stunning on its own. The exposed brick felt unique and the historic grounds felt so perfectly us. We walked away feeling like we found our venue. The venue comes with a few pieces of furniture, including stunning farm tables and chairs, and a few chairs and a sofa for extra seating! Our wedding was in early November so both the ceremony and reception were indoors. While the grounds are stunning, we absolutely loved our indoor ceremony. It felt very intimate. I had the tiniest bit of worry about having the room turnover between the ceremony and reception, but the Senate Garage staff (including our amazing caterer Bridge Creek Catering) were absolute pros. Everyone was absolutely shocked by how quickly everything was put perfectly into place. The bar service, which is handled through SG/April, was also incredible. We recommend working with quite a few of their preferred vendors, as they know the space extremely well and Senate Garage clearly does a great job of vetting the companies they work with. It will make your wedding process so much easier! Kingston has always had a special place in our hearts (one of our first dates was at a bar across the street), and we couldn't imagine a better place to get married in the city. This venue also has access to a very nice park that is adjacent to the venue available during your event for a small additional fee. The venue allowed us access to special parking the day before the event for set up and decoration. For guests, there's street parking and a large municipal parking lot close to the venue. I'll reiterate, the space is gorgeous! It has an extremely unique vibe that made our event unforgettable.

Then came the cocktail hour, with flowers everywhere and plenty of space for people to mingle. The reception was then held inside an old barn, beautifully cared for and extremely welcoming. Frank's crew had the floors and tables highly polished, chandeliers and soft lights lit up the room, and everything within felt "magical". After a delicious dinner, while many chose to dance, others wandered outdoors to sit by the fire pit, or chat in the well-lit large bar area. From the hors d'oeuvres, to the last bit of dessert, the food provided by Kevin and Patrice of EP Experience was fantastic. In addition to this wonderful venue, our fee included two large private houses across the street. Besides providing a place nearby for people to stay, it offered a wonderful After Party location, with a big lawn, chairs, and another fire pit. In every respect, Crested Hen Farms was, for us, the perfect place to celebrate our daughter's wedding.
