But something about being here during winter was...magical. High class, intimate, romantic place for your partner and you to have a quiet getaway. The bar has fun cocktails both in the mansion and at the pavilion. The food was PHENOMENAL. My favorite was the truffle fries. They actually used real shaved truffle on top instead of just truffle oil like a lot of other places, so I appreciate the commitment to the craft. Complimentary breakfast was *chefs kiss*. Fun night time hangout at the fire pits with s'mores and brick oven pizza all night. I need to come back and stay in those cabins, I stayed in the mansion and it was the best sleep I've had in months. But you know what the stand out feature was? The staff. From the greeters, to the bartenders, to the management, they really made you feel special. Efficient, attentive, warm and welcoming. I can honestly keep going about how amazing the experience here was but I think I'll cut it here, just go see for yourself.

I expected better for almost $1000 per day. When we were there, salsa music played on the public beach nearby was LOUD ALL DAY. Not what you want in a retreat weekend. All the staff, though, were well trained and super nice.

It was an absolute pleasure to work with Linda and the Grounded team. They were kind and supportive as we worked through creative menu options and budget goals, Linda herself walking me through recommendations to customize the menu for our large crowd (a special dinner for 20) over a call that felt like I was talking with a long friend. I had reached out to three different groups as options for the event, and after this experience there was no contest that Linda's genuine excitement and creativity for showcasing quality and local ingredients (plus warm and amazing personality overall) was going to be a perfect fit. Linda not only delivered on what we planned but exceeded expectations by adding some just-foraged (that day!) fabulously fresh ingredients in a delightful bonus preparation. The proteins were perfectly executed, and I basically could not stop eating every single vegetable preparation -- the way these elements shined really showed what local is all about. Top that off with more great conversation, I couldn't have hoped for a better experience. I look forward to the opportunity to work with Linda and the team again!

The ambiance, staff, patrons and drinks were lovely. We tried the Balkan Dancing night with MacNCheez and had a uniquely memorable and fun(rather silly, for us) evening; would definitely go back and recommended it to friends. (Pro Tip: Any type of dancing is a huge plus if you're trying to stay sane! Just go for it!) This place is an escape and a joy as we live through this dark, scary time in history. Sometimes, the fight-of-the-hour is to refuel with laughter and know that you're showing up for a terrific little business and band. Get off the couch tonight! Live an interesting life! (Full disclosure, at one point, there was an openly critical woman dancing next to me as I stumbled along but do I think this place is responsible for one grump's tacky behavior? Did I let her ruin my fun? Nope and nope. 95% of the people were awesome to me, it's just math).

After the show we wandered around trying different rows and seats. IMHO there are zero seats with good sight lines. It's odd and we were very surprised. Was it designed this way? Yes and no. When a theatre orders new seats they tell the manufacturer how many seats they need in the hall, sometimes how many seats per row. Either way the seat manufacturer figures out what assortment of chair widths will work. Yes, that's right. All chairs in a row may not be the same size. If you've ever said "hmm I thought these chairs were wider" you got one of the small chairs. This is part of why people buy subscriptions - year to year they keep the same seat, one that isn't small. Sadly as much as I loved visiting Ulster I will not go back to see a show at this venue. NOTE: The UPAC website has outdated recommendations for restaurants. Several restaurants had closed permanently or were not open for dinner. Definitely need to call yourself and confirm hours and availability for the evening you intend to be there.

Check in and check out were both easy and efficient procedures. The front desk staff were nice and helpful during our stay. We found our room (Pearl Street Grand Queen) to be comfortable enough. We loved the fact that the Pearl Street building had the gym. We did go to the hotel restaurant one night and had a great time. Food and service were great. The continental breakfast and the free parking were nice touches. And we really liked being able to bring breakfast items to the room in the provided brown boxes. We did not mind the daily destination fee since we are used to such things at unique locations or hotels. The one and only crinkle was Housekeeping. *On our second day we saw that the floors were not vacuumed. This is important in the winter since shoes bring in even more debris even when they are removed art the door. We had to call and request the room to be vacuumed. *On the third day, there was no back-up toilet paper left in the room and so we had to go down to the gym bathroom to get a roll of toilet paper. (The buildings do not have 24 hr staff.) *On the fourth day the tissue box was empty and the housekeeping person had left the empty tissue boxes in the bathroom without leaving a new box. *Lastly when we got back home, I noticed an unrecognized charge on my card. When I called to inquire, turns out that it was a mini bar charge even though we had not consumed anything from the mini bar. The front desk attendant that I talked to was kind enough to remove the charge efficiently enough: albeit after an awkward exchange where he warned me "...to not be rude!" where I had simply said during the conversation: "...well yes, then go ahead and forward the request to management". That was interesting. Oh well. Kingston is an adorable town and we loved visiting the area. And we would stay at Hotel Kingsley again despite the bit with housekeeping and the awkward exchange over the phone.

Our hotel room, I cannot remember what number we stayed at, however it was considered one of the bigger suites. Hotel Kingsley had a small casual space when you enter, past the stairs, there are couches by the window. Music by the side, books on the shelves, games available in the same space. Downstairs, there is a bigger area to hangout by the TV with couches too. A small gym is on the same floor, sauna in a separate room. (We didn't explore the sauna because the door was locked). Checking out the downstairs. It was a comfortable, quiet setting. Our hotel room, my favorite part from night one was the bathroom. Huge bathroom, big windows and awesome rainfall shower. The entire space was worth it for a weekend stay. Hotel Kingsley looks renovated. You can see the maintenance is done well and noise was seldom you can still relax and enjoy your stay.
