My husband and I fell in love with Foxfire, everything about it seemed perfect. When it came to the planning, I felt like a broken record- there wasn't clear communication & in the end I felt like the team ' who was there to take care of me' made me feel uncomfortable, unwanted and like I didn't belong on my wedding day. There were also some big mistakes(& we missed our rehearsal dinner, which was on us) , but raw chicken, telling us more people showed when they didn't (there were empty tables) and I had a metal shower curtain fall on my head & no one came to check on me, being ignored(which is beyond rude), cleaning breakfast & not bringing anything to the bridal suite( when that was requested), not following threw with tasks for the alter/ ceremony/ decor, cleaning up my favors before my guests left, cleaning my decor before my wedding was over, forcing us to be out earlier even though that was not in our contract- because they told others to come visit the property, & not serving a Nordic Breakfast- when again this was a contractual obligation on the day we left & there were 2 pieces of bacon and some fruit out for me to eat. While all of this happened the real kicker was when the GM called me abusive to his staff, while we went to calmly settle the tab. I asked his manager, who was next to him, if I once was abusive & he looked at he shook his head & quietly said no. One of The biggest things was they were supposed to be a row of chairs open in the front of our ceremony for a bridal party to sit down, no one stayed in the front so people sat in those seats, my bridal party couldn't sit down and I don't have any pictures where my husband and I are just being married. Which is something I really wanted. I left my wedding crying and with such a sour taste. I tried to make all this right for months and it was a one way street. Foxfire threw a beautiful wedding, but it wasn't what I wanted or paid for- & mind you it wasn't inexpensive. That was supposed to be such an important experience in my life, especially as a woman, I will never get these moments back and Foxfire ruined that for me. I am beyond hurt and have been trying to move past it for a month, but when you have been looking forward to something to something your entire life, it's really hard to keep moving forward. The food was amazing at our tasting though.

Checkout price shows 1027 total because the food is EXTRA and not INCLUDED.

VERY MISLEADING! I was ready to book my stay. On their website it says "cost for 2 nights for 2 guests" $600. "Your stay at foxfire will include: Breakfast, Happy Hour & 3 course Dinner" I thought Great! Upon checkout my total went up to $1027!!! Why? BECAUSE ITS NOT INCLUDED. It's an "EXTRA". Why is it being advertised as included when it's "included" for the extra price of $340?! Who knows what other hidden charges will come up. I'm not upset about the cost but upset about being mislead. Please, don't advertise it as included when you are paying extra. I would not trust giving my credit card info to this business!!!

If you want a getaway where you can truly connect, enjoy nature, eat amazing food, and have no worries about the accommodations....this is the place. The grounds are beautiful, the food was perfect, and the rooms were so cozy. We enjoyed hiking overlook mountain and our time in Woodstock too.

Foxfire mountain house is truly a hidden gem of the Catskills. Tucked away on a back road, you would never know this magical little place exists if you didn't do some research first! Well, I've done the research and let me tell you this is a must visit if spending some time in the Phoenicia, Mt Tremper, Woodstock area! You can tell immediately upon walking in that they put a lot of thought and care into the unique design of this place. Bits of nature are interspersed with rich and warm element such as a large stone fireplace, fuzzy blankets, records and a record player for guests to enjoy, a lively and creative bar and dining area as well as locally sourced, delicious ingredients, making a very memorable meal. This is my second visit for dinner and drinks. I'm never disappointed. I can't wait to plan my next trip, maybe even stay over in one of their beautiful rooms next time :)

I ordered the potato dumplings -5 stars & the branzino, which I added just a little more lemon too. My boyfriend for the steak, he thought it was okay, could have used more flavor. We met another couple who also had a puppy, that sat with us outside ... they ordered the crab cake appetizer and the duck entree - both were VERY good! For dessert we shared the chocolate cake with ice cream and the oatmeal pistachio rhubarb which were both amazing ... Peter was an amazing host. When it started to rain, he was happy to allow us to sit inside with our pup. Very cute & quaint spot!

From start to finish it was truly a wonderful experience. Absolutely a night of classic elegance and decadent food. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation to sit at the bar and have a pre-dinner cocktail. We each had an old fashioned, which were excellently made by the very friendly bartender. The bar area was small and intimate with small side areas with high top tables, couches and armchairs. We could have happily spent all night in this area. We were later seated in the restaurant area and had another round of drinks, an appetizer (roasted pork terrine) and two entrees (chicken Milanese and the lamb shoulder ragu). Each dish was rich and flavorful. Great food, great service, beautiful building and grounds. Easy 5 start review.

Stayed in the one dog-friendly cabin which was excellent - cabin had a smart layout, and was spacious, cozy, clean (with one minor exception) and quiet. Also, the main lobby area is lovely and the local restaurant is great. The burger I had here was frankly among the best I've ever had, and I'm picky. I cannot though in good faith give this Inn 5 stars for 3 important reasons: 1. The free breakfast has very irritating strings attached; you are given a fairly limited selection of food options and a strict "no modifications" policy is in place. Whomever is managing this place, I do urge you to reconsider this archaic approach which really detracts from the quality of one of the key elements of the stay. Reasonable modifications are easy to accommodate, inexpensive and would be far more aligned with this hotel's image as a high-end establishment. Which is why that's the approach in virtually all like-regarded hotels in the country these days... 2. Heating of the outdoor pool was stopped 2 days prior to our arrival on a "seasonal decision" basis, per the front desk. This is frankly tantamount to closing the pool altogether, during a week where temps hovered in the 60s, so still very much legitimate pool weather. If you close the pool on guests, at least ping them in advance and/or offer some type of compensation considering the pool is one of the draws. Again, I feel like this is the type of nickel-and-diming that does disservice to the establishment's reputation. 3. The water pressure in the cabin showers was irritatingly low.

Our bagged breakfast was missing a few items we ordered. That really was not ideal, as we had a long drive ahead of us to the city. So we ended up having to stop to get a couple of things since what we planned on having was not there. Also, the wait for someone to be at check in was long. We went to the Stratton falls first accidentally. It's 2.5 miles from where our location was. Apparently, the guy at check in saw us and knew we were at the wrong property (they were full at that location) but didn't tell us when he saw us. (We didn't see him). When my son finally found someone (that guy) he said "I saw you when you came in and knew you went to the wrong place...". Ok.... So you just let us stand around for 12 min, before we went searching for you? He wouldn't even give us more than "it's down the road." Directions to the other place. That guy was an awful first impression. The lady at our location was lovely, but he made the initial feeling stick with me. So, customer service sucked because of him. I had friends that came to meet us from 30 min away and had to wait an additional 20 min thanks to that guy. Would I suggest it? If the service continues like it was... no. Fun themes though. I hear they moved to new ownership, so maybe that's what is going on.

A discerning eye will note the efforts to maintain a thematic exterior color coordination across all the units. The…read moreinn was clearly a motel in a previous life, as it had that lengthy structure with outdoor entrances to each room. The parking lot was gravel-based, so vehicles were parked a bit haphazardly, but the lot's spaciousness ensured that it was not really an issue. The hotel was right on the stream with a lovely grassy area dotted with Adirondack chairs, hammocks, and other ways to enjoy the view. The office was located right next to that little park and was also where the continental buffet breakfast was served. The small room had a great view of the water from its few tables. The breakfast options included various hot beverages, several types of milk, yogurt, berries, granola, pastries, breads, hard-boiled eggs, lox, tomatoes, cucumbers, and more. It was really the perfect few bites to start the day with energy and wellness. While the inn had a few larger cabins, many of the rooms were supposedly rather tiny, including ours. The room had a queen-sized bed, nightstand, wall-mounted television, and wooden desk with matching chair. There was a closet with some hanging and shelving space, as well as a hair dryer and coffeemaker. The room really left a lot to be desired from a space perspective, as it was hard to navigate. For instance, the room might have come with 2 luggage racks, but there was really only space for one. The bathroom was also tiny, and it was near impossible to use the toilet without sideswiping the pedestal sink on your way. The shower was a decent size at least. The bathroom came with fluffy towels and Aveda products, which were both appreciated. We also loved that the temperature and pressure of the water were phenomenal; in fact, the shower was like a fire hose! Though the room was small, it was SPOTLESS! Also, its individual heater packed a great deal of warmth. There was not an abundance of electrical outlets, but the alarm clock had one built in, as well as two USB ports. The extremely gracious staff had also left a binder of local recommendations for us on the table. The bed, however, was lumpy, and the pillows were cheap and uncomfortable. From a location standpoint, the inn was only a few blocks from either end of town, depending on which way you wanted to travel. The residential roads were very dark at night and many did not have sidewalks, so we definitely needed to be alert walking to and from the main drag, even though we knew the town was overly safe. The Woodstock Inn on the Millstream made up for its lack of amenities and small rooms with efficient, friendly service and clear dedication to guest satisfaction.
