My fiancé and I recently stayed at the Fairlawn Inn to celebrate her birthday. When we got there, Sandy greeted us warmly and gave us a tour of the place with all of it's rustic charm. Our room was clean, spacious and cozy. We were treated to her outstanding breakfasts as well as a surprise ice cream cake party hosted by Sandy, little Leelee and two of her friends whom had come over for dinner earlier. (I apologize for forgetting their names but it's been over a month now and my memory gets foggy). The Fairlawn Inn is a gorgeous, vintage postcard come to life with all of the modern amenities a traveler requires and is located on a not too busy central road within walking and driving distance to wherever you want to go. You will not go wrong staying at the Fairlawn Inn. My wife and I stayed at the Fairlawn Inn based on the high reviews and ratings on various web sites, even though the prices were a little bit more expensive than other area accommodations. As such, our expectations were high. This is the second Bed and Breakfast we've ever stayed at, our first being in the Poconos last year. That was a very positive experience which made us want to try another one. The Fairlawn Inn met our high expectations. You can believe the good things you read... As with any establishment, there were some issues. For instance there were a few spider webs in the room, specifically from the ceiling light fixture to the wall, but nothing of major concern (in fact at the last Bed and Breakfast we stayed at I found a large spider crawling on my pillow, so that's nothing new). My only complaint was that upon checking in after a day of skiing, we were looking forward to being able to take a nice hot shower. I assume other guests had the same idea because neither of us had hot water during our showers. So if you book the room with the two person jacuzzi, I'm not sure if you'll actually have enough hot water to fill it. As for privacy, we could hear the guests in the adjacent rooms (we stayed in the Rose room), so don't plan on having too much privacy. However, they were quiet and we were able to go to sleep early, since we were really tired. We utilized the built-in DVD player on the 19" LCD TV in our room for a Netflix movie we brought. However, we were too tired to make it all the way through. (I've heard many B&Bs don't give you a TV) The added touched of a soft drink stocked mini-fridge behind the dry bar downstairs and snacks was a nice touch. Breakfast was good, as well. Chuck was a gracious inn keeper and runs his Bed and Breakfast efficiently. If you're planning to visit Hunter Mountain for skiing or summer-time activities, this location is excellent. From our seat at breakfast we could see the slopes across the street. read more

This historic inn is magical. Every room has such unique character and the attention to detail is immaculate, from the Tiffany glass to the ornate wallpapers to the romantic antique fainting couches. And it doesn't take itself too seriously. There are still Christmas decorations hanging in the dining room in May, which I loved, and little macramé hearts and gold angel figurines, but also televisions, Keurigs and all the necessary modern amenities. I was so taken with the place that I asked the innkeeper (friendly, hospitable, attentive...perhaps a bit too attentive but with a heart of gold) if they allowed for extended stays. The prospect of reading a good book in that lounge... drinking an old fashioned... eating eggs prepared especially for me... every day for the rest of my life... it's something I'm seriously considering. If you appreciate old things and exquisite taste and want to experience all three in a charming, storied mountain town with breweries and antique shops, just a 25 minute drive from Hudson and Woodstock.. you must stay at this storied inn. The only thing that this place is missing is a bar. I think a bar would take it from 95 to 120. read more

Sandy took all the precautions for COVID-19, and the other guests were also polite, wore masks and kept the place safe by social-distancing. The food is great too! My husband and I stayed at this amazing inn for a weekend skiing trip at Hunter Mountain, and we loved it. First the location, it is right next to the ski resort, 2 min drive, and we can actually see the trails from our room. Second, the innkeeper Sandy is very friendly, helpful, and hospitable. She gave us great local restaurant and bar recommendations, and made us feel like home. They took precautions for Covid19, and everyone was wearing masks and keeping social distancing. They offered complimentary coffee & tea, soda & bottled water, and breakfast (bakery, fruit, yogurt, instant noodle! etc). Third, the inn itself is a gem, victorian style with historical touch. We learned about the history of this inn from Sandy, and how she was selected as the 4th generation innkeeper among many candidates in 2020. The location is perfect, less than 10 minutes to skiing at hunter mountain, or shopping, eating etc in quaint downtown tannersville. Owner Sandy made us feel like family. We were able to balance skiing and fun with work both in our room and the spacious common rooms of the Inn. An absolute must for a weekend away from the city! We stayed here a few weeks ago for the second year in a row. Both times we had wonderful experiences. It is a charming and tastefully decorated bed and breakfast. We stayed in the "green room" both times, which has a gas fireplace, a view of Hunter Mountain, and a large bathroom with claw foot tub. The rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. The Innkeeper Chuck is very accommodating and helpful, and he can also recommend good restaurants in the area. Which leads to my next point....the food is fantastic. We found ourselves craving Chuck's breakfasts for weeks after our stay. Both the french toast and the omelets were amazing. There is also fresh fruit, berries, and usually some kind of cookies or scones, etc. Breakfast is prepared quickly which is great because you are able to get out and hit the slopes early. Another nice touch is a bar stocked with sodas, cookies, chips, candy, etc if you want a snack during the day or at night. We stay in bed and breakfasts quite often, so we understand some of the little quirks about staying in a historic old home as opposed to a hotel, and we had no complaints at all about the Fairlawn Inn. It's a nice, cozy place in a great location. We will definitely be back, this is our place to stay when we go to visit Hunter. read more

Stayed here just recently (Summer 2016) and had a GREAT time. Our host, Chuck, takes great pride in his work and was very accommodating. We stayed in the Opel room and it was gorgeous. He's very flexible with check-in times, and keeps a very clean house. The place has plenty of places to lounge around outside, upstairs, and inside near the gaming area/pool table. His breakfast was amazing both mornings. He cooks incredible omelettes, and before that he has fresh coffee, fruit, and muffins ready for you when you wake up. He also made montecristo French toast waffles which was one of the best breakfasts I've ever had and would rival most of my go-to brunch places in New York City. Lastly, he makes some pretty awesome pudding and was incredibly helpful with his recommendations of where to explore and dine around the local area. We will definitely be back! read more

4.5 Stars. I came here for a weekend getaway with my girlfriend a couple of weeks ago. We were greeted by this picturesque inn lit in Christmas lights and covered in snow. As is mentioned in other reviews, the innkeeper, Chuck goes beyond the call of duty in providing great service, giving recommendations for things to do/places to eat in the area and making a super yummy American style breakfast. The common area is well-stocked with goodies such as tea, soft drinks and snacks as well as having a pool table and a small library of games and DVDs. We stayed in the Greene room (which not surprisingly was decorated in green). My girlfriend fell in love with the huge bathroom and it's claw foot tub. I liked the overhead shower. We didn't have any issues with the hot water. The bedroom was cute, with a gas fireplace at the foot of the bed and views of the mountain. My only complaints were that the mattress was extra firm and that the floors were thin and we got woken up during the night a few times by the phone downstairs. Overall, I highly recommend staying here if you are in town for skiing or just to get away from the city. read more

I usually hate b&b breakfasts, but Chuck did a great job! Café quality. Super impressed! The room was comfortable. I stayed in the "Raspberry Something" because it was one of the rooms that permitted my dog. There was a nice bathtub and everything was really clean. Chuck is super informative and I appreciate that. One issue: I heard the room next to us at 6AM discussing snow conditions. I continued to hear their entire conversation and couldn't tune it out or fall back asleep. Also, when I arrived their dog would NOT stop barking. It was horrible because I hate the sound of small dogs yapping. I would not suggest bringing a baby here or having sex here. Other than that, it's super close to the mountain! read more

I booked the room a year in advance for taste of country. My wife's friend drove with us expecting her husband to come. (They had camping passes). Her husband was unable to make the concert so we bought blowup bed and she stayed with us. Chuck became irritable and rude, when he seen her with us. We offered money for compensation and he refused it and became very irritable with my wife. She was very nice, for nothing in return. Things happen! The breakfast for two day was not cooked correctly. For my wife or myself. No bible in the room, fridge, microwave. Confirmation was not filled out correctly on pricing. Was going to book the room again. With the rudeness of the inn keeper Chuck, I'll spend my $1000 for three days some where else. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a weekend in October and we loved it! The room was adorable, and we knew we were in good hands with Chuck the Innkeeper. Breakfast was AMAZING. Cooked to order, fresh, local food, and the menu changed every day. The only downsides were that the walls were kind of thin, and we were bummed that it rained the night we wanted to use the firepit. Those minor things stopped me from giving it a five star rating. I would highly recommend this to anyone visiting the Hunter mountain region! read more

We stayed at the fair lawn inn after Christmas 2018 and it was the worst experience ever . I was recovering from surgery and my mother and I plus my daughter who was going to ski , just needed some relaxation , The owner was in our business from the moment we stepped foot onto the property and we felt like our every move was being tracked or watched . He was so astoundingly rude to my mother who is in her 70s . He allowed dogs on the property , yet he Accused me of not having a dog that was a service dog which was not really an important factor but decided he wanted to educate me on the subject and provided me with print outs from the internet despite my legitimate papers and identification for the animal ! . He controlled the heat and kept the place during a horrible snow storm at a freezing 60 . We couldn't change it . We had a tiny TV with no channels despite the place advertising internet and cable ! . Never provided a new towel during the few days we tried desperately to tolerate the empty inn, which was bizarre no one was there right after the holidays . We ended up leaving early with my young daughter in tow after much mistreatment . We were very disturbed by the whole experience and really didn't understand why this In. Keeper was so miserable and why he was in this business yo begin with ! The experience in fact was rather creepy . We just wanted a quiet trip where my daughter could ski every day . Instead we got a Bates Motel-esque experience with a $$$$$$$$ price tag and we were charged every single penny for it ! read more

Amazing experience! We stayed in the Gazebo Room, which has a breathtaking view of Hunter Mountain, a cozy bed with luxe sheeting, and a vintage claw foot tub-- perfect for soaking sore muscles after a day of skiing. Chuck made us creative, delicious vegan breakfasts and a delightful key lime pie. Exceeded my expectations in every way. You can walk right up to Chuck and ask him anything. He has an answer, recommendations and stories. I never had an experience like this ever and also the most Eco-friendly environment I've ever been to which compliments my ways of being and directed with much humor. The breakfast was to die for. Just came home from a two night stay with my husband. Chuck is an incredible innkeeper who couldn't be more friendly, interesting and caring. The place is wonderfully kept up and you can tell a lot of love goes into this place. we will go back again and again. We stayed in the Opal Room and the it was quiet and so nice. I feel in love with the bear claw shower tub! The food for breakfast was just great and any picky eater will find it yummy! Chuck is so helpful and will go the extra mile! stay there! For my birthday my boyfriend surprised me with a weekend getaway to the Catskills. We stayed at the Fairlawn Inn and it was absolutely gorgeous! The room, the grounds, we stayed in Opal. Chuck actually helped my boyfriend with planning our weekend! My boyfriend told him what he had in mind for my surprise and Chuck told him the best places to go. We went horseback riding, had a delicious dinner at a little Italian restaurant then went to Kaaterskill Falls. Chuck provided us with directions he printed up...After our horseback riding adventure, Chuck even gave us some Epsom salt to put in a warm bath to help with our sore muscles. It was the little things that Chuck did that really impressed us. OH! And that complimentary breakfast, amazing. It was the perfect start to our mornings! We stayed there less than a week ago and are already planning a trip back in the fall!! read more
