Rooms were clean, well-maintained and modern. The King bed was super comfortable and the sheets were HEAVEN. I need to find out what they were so I can get them for my home! Room had a fridge and microwave tucked away which came in handy since we had wine and dog food that needed to be refrigerated. Balcony overlooking the mountain is nicer than the one which faces the street, so if you can manage, recommend that side. The "Library" area was super cute and nice to hang out by the fire while enjoying some free coffee in the morning or a drink in the evening. I saw some comments about the front desk being empty late night and that was true, but that thankfully didn't affect our stay. Just need to make sure to get things addressed (towel refills, special requests, etc) during desk service hours. Of note, they have a rule that dogs cannot be left alone in the room if you leave (to go to restaurant for example). While I understand their reasoning for this rule, knowing it in advance would have been helpful, especially since they don't allow dogs in the restaurant. Thankfully Scribner's is just across the street allows dogs in their hangout area and in their restaurant. Dear Mountain Inn (a 10-min drive) also allows dogs in their restaurant, and has great food and a very cozy vibe--highly recommend the burger. read more

I have stayed here twice and really enjoy the big room sizes and the location. I loved my room with the walk out patio on the ground level a little bit more then the big room with the loft I most recently had. Whichever room category you select, I recommend paying the extra for the mountain view, otherwise you are looking at the parking lot. My last stay was reasonably priced at $265 for the night, but my stay in September 2024 was $400 per night which I do not feel is worth it for this property or location. read more

It's an older hotel but the people were kind and attentive. The gathering rooms were cozy. Our room was great and seemed like it was recently remodeled. The beds were comfortable. Bathroom set up worked well for us with no shortage of hot water. I definitely plan on returning when I have more time to spend in the area. read more

Stephanie at the bar and tavern at the Hunter Lodge is always the highlight of our stay at Bluebird Hunter Lodge. Her service is truly beyond five stars. She always has great suggestions, makes excellent cocktails, and most importantly is an amazing person. She is the definition of someone who goes above and beyond, and Hunter Lodge is very lucky to have her. The Hunter Lodge in general is a very good property. The beds are comfortable, the space is great, and the staff are wonderful. People like Stephanie really elevate the experience. We are already looking forward to our next stay there. read more

This hotel is adorable, and in a great location for a Hudson Valley/Catskills vacation. The rooms are recently renewed, and they did a great job. I don't think I am as picky as some of the other reviewers that have pointed out small repairs that needed to be made in some of the rooms. The room we got (Deluxe King Patio) was spacious and had an absolutely gorgeous view of the mountain. The AC/heat both worked great, and all other amenities were up to par. The bathroom was a little small, but did not bother us. Might be harder for families or older folks to navigate. The only issue is that you can hear eeeeeeeeevvvvvvveeeeeryyything that happens in the hallways and even in the rooms across the hall. The walls are terribly thin and neither of us really got a good night's sleep because of it. Bring earplugs I guess! read more

No one to help after 9pm. We rented a room for 3 nights at 252 per night. After a long day of hiking and visiting with family we came home to no clean towels full trah cans. I had left things on the bed that I had straightened up so I didn't expect anything to be done to the bed but I did expect clean towels. Breakfast was horrible. Pink stuff for artificial sweetener. Yougurt Granola cheerios bagles you slice and cook. Some apples and oranges. Is here someone from a days inn maybe that can help them with the breakfast. A fire pit in the back you have to get staff to light when there's only 1 person working until 9pm. Spend $50 more dollars and go somewhere nice. read more

We spent one weekend night at Hunter Lodge, which is an updated motel in the Adirondacks. The online images made me pause at first, as it looked a bit "roadside" to me, but the updates were very well done, and our room was a funky, fun place to spend a night in leaf-season. The Mountain views on both sides of the inn are very nice, and it came across as a comfortable, peaceful, nicely done hotel. We found the breakfast, bar and living room (with fire place), added nicely to our stay. We brought a dog who was more than happy with the accommodations. A group of girlfriends from grad school and I stayed here for 3 nights (I was here for two) for our annual reunion gathering. The staff were friendly, responsive, and helpful. The free continental breakfast has options for everyone. Our room was spacious - 2 bedrooms, kitchenette, living area and bathroom which was great for hanging out and catching up with each other. We came to this place for dinner on a Sunday evening. We had called in advance and were told that it was not busy and reservations were not required. That was true, there was only one other table being served when we arrived and they had already completed their meal. Mind you, this was 5:30pm during ski season. We were greeted and offered beverages, and our orders taken fairly quickly. Our food arrived, and my husbands meal was not 100% as he ordered (he asked for chips instead of fries) but we didn't say anything. My grilled cheese sandwich didn't appear to have any cheese on it. There were tomatoes, mustard and onions but I never found any cheese. It was still tasty. We were not offered refills or second drinks, so we made do with what we had. Our waitress cleared our plates, and then we sat there for 15 minutes before we could get her attention to bring our check. By this time, she did have two more tables. The setting was pretty, the fireplace was enjoyable. There were fresh flowers on the table. But the food and service deserved 3 out of five stars. We would skip this place in the future and try somewhere else. It wasn't awful, it just could have been better. read more

I booked a cliff view room with a balcony, looking forward to a peaceful mountain getaway. Instead, I arrived to find myself in a ground-floor room with a lovely view--of the parking lot and the nicer hotel across the street, Scribner's. I pointed this out to the front desk, hoping for a correction, especially as I noticed rooms with the view I booked were still available. I was flatly told there was "nothing they could do." Stayed here last Friday July 12th and as much as it is a good location and close to all I most likely wouldn't stay here again. My issue came with the lack of experience with the nightly rate as well as the dishonest employees working there. The rate issue came with the failure to honor the "military discount" of 10% which the front desk informed me did not exist even though the website clearly stated it did for that specific location (I have attached the screen shot). My second issue was we left a tablet on the top bunk in the room and after the room was cleaned it disappeared. My child was very upset because it contained some progress in games that cannot be replaced however we have since purchased her a new one anyway. It was just very disheartening that someone would take something that clearly belonged to a child. I chose to give them a two star review even with the unfortunate events because the property is a nice location and relatively clean outside of the marijuana smoke coming from the room next to us. They have a nice campfire outside and the rooms were clean. The restaurant does take foreverrrr to bring out the food so make sure you are comfortable if you decide to dine in. Overall the place just wasn't for me as you should feel safe in your room. read more

As you can see from my other reviews, I have only once before posted a negative review of any establishment. Generally, I live by the motto, at least with respect to my public comments about businesses, that if I can't say something pretty nice, I won't say anything at all. However, in this case, I am constrained to make an exception, and issue a warning to other travelers who may not "read the fine print." Specifically, yesterday my wife and I drove 3 1/2 hours to the Bluebird Hunter Lodge, and checked in with our docile house cat. I SPECIFICALLY told the woman at the front desk as we checked in that we had a cat - because it was my understanding, based upon Bluebird's Expedia listing, that we would have to pay $35 a day for the cat. Indeed, we booked the room at Bluebird because we needed to take the cat with us on this trip, and Bluebird's Expedia listing states in part: "Pets Pets allowed for an extra charge of USD 35 per pet, per day Service animals are welcome, and are exempt from fees Welcoming dogs only Two per room (up to 70 lbs) Pets cannot be left unattended" A screenshot of these terms is attached for your review and information. After checking in, and dragging to our room belongings for a four night stay, I was carrying our cat's scratching post into the hotel, when I was spotted by a woman who I later learned was Rachel, the infamously rude Bluebird manager mentioned in other reviews. (We always bring the scratching post to make sure that the cat doesn't scratch anything other than the scratching post - and he never has.) Rachel rudely told me that cats are not allowed at Bluebird, and that "dogs are the only pets allowed at Bluebird." I told her that it was not my understanding, based upon the language quoted above, and Rachel barked back that I "should have read the fine print more carefully," because, again according to Rachel, it clearly states that only dogs are allowed. Frankly - Rachel is wrong. At best, for Rachel, the language is ambiguous and unclear. All of the language, as quoted above, refers generally to "pets" and "animals", except the one cryptic phrase "welcoming dogs only," which I had quickly read upon booking through Expedia only to mean that only friendly dogs were permitted. Call me crazy, but if Bluebird intended only to permit dogs, why wouldn't its Expedia listing read as follows: "Pets Dogs only allowed for an extra charge of USD 35 per dog, per day Service dogs are welcome, and are exempt from fees Dogs only Two per room (up to 70 lbs) Dogs cannot be left unattended" That language (in stark contrast to the language actually employed by Bluebird on Expedia) makes clear that only dogs are permitted. My wife and I attempted to reason with Rachel, to no avail. We explained to her our confusion regarding Bluebird's pet policy, we offered to pay for any damage caused by our cat (we knew there would be none), we reminded her that we drove 3 1/2 hours to get to Bluebird, and didn't know if we would be able to find any other accommodation, and I even told her that the woman who checked us in had been specifically informed that we have a cat. That woman, by the way, actually insisted in front of Rachel that she thought I "was only making conversation" - like out of the blue, I would just mention for the hell of it that I have a cat. (She was probably just terrified to admit the truth in front of Rachel - including the fact that she watched us carry the cat and it's litter box through the shabby lobby.) Ultimately, Rachel threw us out without regard to whether we would have any place else to go. We ended up staying at the Comfort Inn in Saugerties - approximately 20 miles away. (Particularly inconvenient since the rest of our family is staying at a different hotel in Hunter, about two miles from Bluebird.) Perhaps it was my bad for not reading more carefully the "fine print," as Rachel called it. On the other hand, for the reasons I pointed out to Rachel, Bluebirds' policy is ambiguous at best, and I believe we should've been accommodated in some way shape or form. We explained to Rachel the reason for our misunderstanding, and offered to pay for any damage, etc. etc., as noted above. But Rachel seems to be more concerned with being "the boss" than she is with customer service. In addition to the other reviews noting Rachel's rude behavior, you'll notice at least one person complaining that they too were thrown out of Bluebird without warning for dubious reasons. Accordingly, consider yourself forewarned: do not stay at Bluebird unless you are prepared to engage an attorney in advance to read the "fine print" before you make the mistake of booking there. read more

From the moment we walked in, Rachel, the manager, made us feel welcome and at home. The lodge is cozy and beautiful, with comfy couches and chairs and a roaring fire in the "living room" (I love that Rachel called it a living room, because that is exactly what it is! A great place to sit and relax.) The rooms are charming and homey, and the bathroom, while small, is beautifully appointed with modern furnishings. I will absolutely be back! read more

Definitely a beautiful hotel. When you walk in you are welcomed with a fabulous team but what I loved most was the lounge/library with the fireplace. I sat there for hours, met other guests, and really enjoyed my time there. The atmosphere is lovely and you must get the smores package and roast smores outside at the firepit. The staff is great and the manager is fantastic. It is such a breath of fresh air. There is a ski rental place next door and it is so convenient to pick up your skis there - avoid the lines at the mountain. Our room was incredible - the space and the loft were unprecedented for us - so much space and an area to have friends over for appetizers and play card games with the kids. I highly recommend this to everyone! They are also dog friendly - even providing a dog welcome package for your dog! read more

This place is incredible, no idea where theres poor reviews on here. I feel like a-lot of yelpers literally come on here just to bash businesses any chance they can. I met the owner and was so impressed by what she has accomplished with the Blue Bird. The lodge is has been beautifully redone and the rooms are impeccable for the price. The actually tavern has an incredible ambience with a great bar and well catered food for anyone looking for a bite. The fire was going when my wife and I entered from leaving our room. A view of the mountains from the taverns windows were so relaxing we had the poutine, veal schitnzel and grilled cheese. Everything was made to perfection and great service. So I don't often write reviews but it was necessary. We drove 3 hours to be put in a basement room with only half "the window" above ground. Musty is to put it lightly. Asked for a new room of course. We were given a different room with an entirely different smell with a view of of the parking lot, Parking lot is fine but if I had an unhappy costumer I might try to improve their experience a bit. The smell even worse. I would let people know ahead of time that the room would be underground. I feel that is important info. Don't you? I understand the pressure COVID puts on things and so I would strive not to gross people out with for a room that is $175 taxes in. Last weekend we stayed at the pine inn in Pine hill. Super simple so clean and friendly. I'm writing this even before I sleep knowing it's going to be a long night. PS no WiFi in the rooms. Sorry just didn't want you to be disappointed read more

I'm having a hard time reviewing this place for a few reasons, which is why I gave it a 3, right in the middle. This is part of Lark hotels and I travel a lot and stay in Larks often. Lark Hotels are known for their amazing breakfast and adorable decor. I know this hotel is still under renovations so it's hard to write a review when it's not top notch yet. A few things: *they gave us a room in the basement, felt like a dungeon and the hallway was so dark even in the daytime, and there were two dogs across the hall from us. We could have asked for a new room but we didn't but the hotel was far from full so why put anyone in the basement area didn't make sense to me. We had machinery and wood as our view. *The bed is not comfortable at all. *Bedroom was huge with a nice sitting area *Our room was supposed to have a private patio and since we were "basement" we did not have that. Just know the 100's is the lowest level and I call it a basement because that's what it felt like to me when I first entered. *Bathroom is so tiny, specifically the toilet and shower area. Although the shower pressure and hot water was great. The shower toiletries I also really liked. *Entire hotel had a weird smell, not terrible and not lovely. Maybe it's the wood and paint from the renovations I'm not sure, but it wouldn't hurt to diffuse some essential oils throughout the hotel. *Great customer service as they let us check in early *Text said their tavern was open and when we got there they were not open yet due to the construction. *Breakfast was not up to Lark standards in my opinion. It was typical continental which was bagels, yogurt and cereal. Some bagels were hard and some soft. A bug also came out of the water pitcher and into my cup. * so even though I was not thoroughly impressed with this hotel being it's a Lark, it was a fine mediocre hotel if that makes sense. I will definitely return and give it a second chance once the full renovations are done. I'm also curious to see how much they raise their prices when it is their peak season of winter. After planning our annual family reunion here we were unpleasantly greeted by Rachel who was most uncaring and not bothered at all that our reservations of 9 rooms were not correct. One room was changed, and moved away from the rest of our party and two other rooms had no air conditioning. We were told "turn the fan on". we were greeted with obstacles the entire time, every promise Manager Rachel made upon booking this party became a lie. That is after she called my mother a liar. Own up Rachel. The Hunter Inn needs to take course in how to speak to people and turn a bad situation into a better one. Hospitality 101. We will never return. We've stayed at other hotels in the area and decided to give the newly renovated Bluebird by Lark at shot. We've stayed at the Captains quarters in Maine another Lark property that was impeccable. This place is a solid choice for $200 but definitely lacks for the $400 price tag which is what we paid on Saturday night. Pros, staff is very kind and friendly! They also allow dogs and the fee is modest. Common area was nicely designed. The beds were not as comfortable as I would have liked for the $400 a night price tag. Rooms were spacious and good for a family. Neatly updated. If you are looking for a simple hotel with spacious rooms this is a good choice. If you want something more boutique and unique this might not be for you. Would have loved to see a more progressive wine and cocktail menu as well. With an eclectic vibe in the Catskills I think that there are far more interesting options then Prisoner and Josh for a wine list. Breakfast was much like that of a motel. Coffee could be improved as well. Again okay for $200 but if I'm paying $400 per night I do expect a bit more. I hope this review is helpful for those looking to stay in this great area as well as management of this Bluebird property. read more

Pure racism and Anti-Semitism: My Freind was there last weekend with their family, all of sudden in middle the day they asked to immiddly leave hotel and threw them out like annimmles to the Street!! In the rain, without any notice before, and explanations.. Later they finally got a so-called good-reason that one of them forgot to Re-wear their mask while exit the Room.. in the meantime when other guests didn't wear a mask at all. The views are incredible from the rooms at the back of the hotel and it is nice that they have a fire pit. However, the decor needs major updating. My advice is to get rid of the flower shower curtains and get up with the times. Put up some paintings to give the rooms some joy. The carpet in our room was old and tattered. It's interesting to see the variations in reviews, a lot of 1-stars and also a fair amount of 4 and 5 stars. This for me is hard to figure as i dont really see them as a 5 star place but they really also aren't a 1-star place, however in the middle at 3 seems to make the most sense. The vent in the AC unit had holes worn through it, it smelled like a locker room of high school socks when we turned on the unit but unfortunately since it was in the 90's there wasn't any way to avoid it. The beds weren't great and weren't bad, i believe they are on the of the only places in the area where you can get two queen beds in a room, although in hindsight i am not sure what situation you would be in where you would need two queen beds. The lobby looks nice but we weren't allowed to use, the bar and breakfast area also looked good but we weren't able to use it either. No games, no wifi in the rooms, TV's had the discount 20 channels. There are balconys that have a nice view of the road and parking lot. Our rooms connected with my sisters but it did look like someone broke into one of our rooms from the other... a little scary... Not sure what the point of the carpet on the walls is. read more

Before my arrival I was told that I can leave my bags at the reception because the check in for rooms were very late. However on my arrival I felt unwelcomed by very mean and rude staff who was very annoyed that I had brought luaggages early. They told me to leave my bags on the floor and said that they were not responsible if anything happens to them. So since I needed to leave my bags in order to ski I hid my bag behind the christmas tree. However a very angry reception lady yelled at me and made a huge deal about me hiding my bag behind the christmas tree. I told her I wanted to hide it so that nobody could steal it but she didnt care. She was veryyy rude about it. I felt very unsafe. So I ended up leaving my bag on the floor in the wide open lobby where any stranger and spot it. Then the next morning I walked passed that christmas tree and I realized people had left 4 big luaggages behind the christmas tree. I knew that the receptionist only was mean to me and my belongings because I was a young asian. And that she allowed only white old americans to leave their bags and only cared for white peoples bag. I would definitely not recommend this place to asians and blacks. They will treat you and your belongings like garbage. It is only a place for welcoming old white americans. I was very hurt by the fact that they wouldnt let me put my bags in a safe place but allowed a white family to hide their bags safely. Felt so much racism. The whole staff is very rude probably treated me like a stupid asian that does not know about leaving reviews. I would recommend booking your stay at the other side of hunter lodge. The resort across the road looked more bigger and had really nice lights. Also this place does not have a bar and restaurant working on weekdays it is only for weekends. Seriously straight out of the 80's. No WiFi in the rooms? Is that even allowed in this decade. Bed was hard, walls are thin, and front desk staff left something to be desired. The food was good admittedly. The breaking point for me was pulling back the bed cover and finding clothing tags and a length of toilet paper left behind from the previous occupants. I actually wanted to throw up. I can handle dated furnishings, metal keys and no WiFi... but to not completely strip a bed and replace all bedding after every guess is absolutely disgusting. Pretty sure it also violates some regulation. Not acceptable. Will never stay here again. Recommend staying across the street at Scribners. It looks like they strip the beds after guests leave there.
