Full kitchen if you are inspired.

Actually, we love old motels. They have a certain charm that you just don't get at a chain hotel. Starlite Motel has a great name and a retro vibe that is warm, clean and comfortable albeit a little worn at the edges. Hey, but that's why we love these places. Starlite has a full kitchen and a super "back yard" with grills and picnic tables. There is a screened-in back porch to keep away the skeeters. This would be great for a family with young kids (put them in the back and let them be your neighbor's issue for a while). Coffee and coffee maker available and fresh milk to get you out the door as well as breakfast items which we skipped because breakfast was 9 miles away in Phoenicia. The lady at the desk was helpful and friendly. I realize it is a "buyers market" but if this motel was $30 cheaper - it would be perfect.

I can't say enough good things about the starlite motel. It's the little things that make this place great. We were greeted our first day with a bag of marshmallows and a bundle of wood for the fire pit and a jug of milk, what more could you ask for. The breakfast basket which was replenished daily had more food than 2 people could handle. The rooms were spotless and the kitchen is a perfect bonus. Free WiFi, a roku so we could still watch Netflix even in the mountains. Do yourself a favor and stay here a few nights.

The cabin was very clean with two ponchos that you can wear when you go to the steam room sauna or heated outdoor pool. All very clean. We ordered our breakfast basket to be delivered in the morning. The breakfast basket was sooo good. We got orange juice, hard boiled eggs, some pastries, yogurt parfait, blueberries and strawberries with granola. All in these cute mason jars. Our coffee was piping hot, just the way I like it with oat milk. I would definitely recommend going for an awesome mountain getaway.

There were four of us in the car coming for dinner, and I believe we exclaimed collectively: wow. First impression did not disappoint. It was a freezing evening and we hurried inside. Another 'wow'. The check in area for the hotel is like an office space in any Mid-Century Modern fanatic's home - or, they wish it was. Just terrific. We were seated by the large windows overlooking the grounds. I could not get enough of the clean, purposely unfinished blonde wood, big windows, yet the amazing cozy feeling you got inside from the couches and other decor. Not only can you come for a dinner but plant your butt for the day with a book or computer and just start with a tea, work your way to coffee, and at noon just go for the cocktails. Nothing wrong with that. Like I said, there were four of us and it seemed we ordered one of each items on the menu - a total of 9 dishes. Everything came superbly finished and seasoned - no objections or comments from anyone other than praise. We split 2 desserts, and we had 6 drinks to the table. The maple squash was particularly finger-licking-delicious, as was the beet salad. At the end of our meal we had the pleasure to meet one of the co-owners of the establishment, Bjorn. Super nice guy who told us the story of the beginnings and how the place came about. We left full, happy, and couldn't stop talking about the resort all the way home. The bill, with tip, came out to be $400. I will definitely come back and I can't wait what else will be added to the Dandelion menu.

We arrived at a mildew-covered "Cabin" 7 (a garage extension) and a dead rotting snake on our doorstep; it smelled DISGUSTING. Rose, the manager came when I asked her to remove it and threw it over maybe 3ft, we smelled it the whole time until we had to move it ourselves. The inside of Cabin 7 is covered in black mold, and in the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms, it smelled so bad that we got out our air fresheners from the car and wound up having to leave, which was so sad because we were in town for a wedding we had been looking forward to for months with nowhere else to stay. I wish I read the reviews before the book, as I 100% would have gone somewhere else. My family had rodents in their cabin 4 and open bags of peanuts and snacks everywhere. They obviously didn't clean ANY of the cabins; who leaves open snacks in a rural cabin? There was no cleaning crew on site the 3 days and two nights we were there, only Rose, the sole employee, running around like a chicken with her head cut off. None of the lights in Cabin 5 worked for my dad, and he was left in a musty, old, dark cabin. Hmmm, what else, there were cigarette butts in all of the dilapidated grills, construction and rock piles everywhere, huge holds in the road. Out of every window and every view was ugly construction equipment. No groundskeeping was done, weeds were overrun with poison ivy all over our deck, and we couldn't even go outside. A slimy green-colored pool infested with frogs. Oh and NONE of the lights worked or electrical sockets worked in two of the cabins, we had to use our flashlights on our phones. The whole place has spotty bad electricity, so whatever you want to plug in would fall out of the wall! The SADDEST part?! We paid $504 for TWO nights and were not told of 1. Construction is everywhere. 2. The pool was not open (as if anyone would dare to go in it) in the middle of June perfect warm weather. Rose refused to offer us any sort of refund for the fact we wound up leaving it was so gross. She said it's policy to report stuff on site, not after, even though she was nowhere to be found and didn't answer any calls or texts from me or any of my family. Rose was so incredibly rude and told me I lied about the mold, which I have pictures of. Ruined what could have been a nice family weekend and risked my health and safety. Oh, I forgot to mention. I paid half upon booking, and the other half was to be paid upon checkout. We hadn't even put our bags down before I got a notification that my card had been charged the balance. I would have never stayed OR paid the balance if I had a choice after I saw our "cabin" (a garage attachment). When I asked Rose for a refund, she stated all complaints were to be made during the stay, which no one responded to. This is a money-making machine, and they do not care about the area, grounds, or you.

It's the kind of place you want to linger in. Unfortunately, the dining room didn't quite live up to the setting. We ordered six dishes and genuinely wanted to give every benefit of the doubt, but the food felt underwhelming overall. Nearly every dish was heavily over-seasoned, with salt dominating the flavors. The pasta was overcooked and even saltier than the anchovy itself. The salad was overdressed and salty, the branzino followed the same theme, and the charred sunchokes were crusted with salt to the point of distraction . It left us wondering whether these dishes were pre-shift photo shoot plates or simply not tasting as they should in a live service setting. The creativity and intention seem to be there, but the execution missed the mark on balance. With a lighter hand and more restraint in seasoning, the food could easily match the incredible atmosphere. We'd happily return for the experience--and hope the kitchen fine-tunes the flavors to let the ingredients truly shine .

First the good: the property is gorgeous. Nestled on the side of the eponymous hill in the village of Pine Hill, NY. It features several cabins and two vintage airstream trailers, a central green space with a fire pit, a communal lodge and an outdoor hot tub. It's a five minute drive to Belleayre Mountain and a five minute walk down the hill to the downtown area of Pine Hill with a few restaurants. True rustic Catskills coziness. My girlfriend and I stayed for two nights during a weekend in February when everything was buried under a foot of snow. A gentleman named Matty found us as soon as we drove in and was incredibly friendly, but that was the last of any employees we saw during the weekend. To the bad: I would not recommend cabin 8. It's a single room with bathroom and shower (no bathtub) at 175 total square feet. My girlfriend and I are not big people and don't mind a small room, but maybe just not for a weekend of skiing/snowboarding as we discovered. With so much equipment and barely any space to put it all save for one bench and a few wall hooks, it's just not ideal. The water pressure in the shower was depressing, especially after a full day on the slopes. At one point in my shower it slowed to a dismal trickle, presumably affected by the sinks/showers in the rooms next door. Cabin 8 has neighbors on nearly all sides. We shared an entrance with those in cabin 7 and could hear them clomping in and out in the evenings/mornings, and could hear them easily through the walls even though they were talking at a reasonable volume. We were bummed that the hot tub was closed all weekend as that had been one of the big draws for us in the first place - the possibility of relaxing after skiing all day. The temperature dropped to -15°F in the night so we understand why it was closed. A fire was set up on Friday night, but the fire pit was too big and the fire too small to make sitting in the chairs comfortable. We had to stand in the fire pit itself two inches from the fire to stay warm. Eventually we got tired of standing and went back to our room. The lodge is definitely nice with its pool and foosball tables. The website mentions an air hockey table, but this was not in the lodge when we visited. A sign on the lodge advertised croissants, bagels and coffee for sale on Sunday between 8 and 11, but when we stopped in at 10:30 the whole place was empty with the lights off. We never did get to see the gift shop as it was closed all weekend. So... not terrible. But at $398 for the two nights, I just don't feel like we got our money's worth. We love the Catskills and might give the place another try if we come back to do some hiking in warmer weather.
