Loved it here! I'm so glad I stayed here. I chose this hotel for it's pool. The location is great. It's very close to the mountain and a couple blocks from the main street in Windham with restaurants, coffee shops, and more. The rooms were updated and nicely decorate. The front desk employee informed me that they're shutting down for a month in a few weeks to complete more renovations. I can't wait to stay here again! We were running late and were met and checked in by Jacob. He was very welcoming and gracious. He loved our little puppy and gave him a treat which he loved. We were hungry and with most of the restaurants closed or closing soon, Jacob offered to make us some chicken tenders. They were absolutely delicious and really hit the spot. You have a variety of choices for breakfast - warm muffins, croissants and chocolate croissants, fruit, oatmeal, cereals, granola and your choice of teas as well as coffee, cappuccino, and macchiatos from a machine I wish I had at home. Starbucks watch out...lol. The warm croissants are made each and every morning by Jacob. Our Mountain View room had a king size bed, which was so comfortable and oversized pillows that felt like clouds. Everything was so luxurious and very clean. Coming back to our room on Valentine's Day, we found a box of chocolates and a Rose left on our bed. What a pleasant surprise! You can tell that Jacob, his family and staff really love what they do. It's this small family feel that you will not find at any hotel chain. Downstairs there's a lounge area with board games, a foosball table and lots of places to sit, eat, read, talk and just relax. There's a separate building with a heated pool and a sauna right outside. We didn't get a chance to use this, but look forward to it the next time. You have access to the Windham Path right from the property as well. Lots of restaurants in town and our favorite breakfast place, Clutch and Throttle is a must go to. And make sure you visit the Gem Mercantile for your clothing needs or gifts to take back home. We are looking forward to another visit to Hotel Vienna in the future. read more

We had reserved a King Standard room and we were placed in a Double on the ground floor right next to the front desk. When we asked about it the following day, because it was clearly a downgrade, the first person we spoke to acknowledged that it was likely a downgrade and Jacob, the manager(?), shared that it was an upgrade (because of a view we didn't even see, we checked in the night before at 8pm). In no world is a ground floor Double an upgrade from a Standard King. I wouldn't stay here unless you appreciate being lied to by the staff, and not having the reservation you paid for and booked honored. read more

This place is lovely, especially in the fall. My wife and I stayed for a weekend, our first in the Catskills. We would gladly return for another stay. Our room was cozy and spacious for two. We woke up to breakfast in one of the communal rooms and arranged for smores by a fire in the evening. Nice bookends to our adventures during the day. The pool was being renovated during our stay but I'm sure it will be nice to have the indoor pool running again. Hotel Vienna is a great choice if you are heading to the Catskills! read more

Reception closes at 9pm but they have a system in place to accommodate guests that arrive after hours. Room and linens are clean. Lighting is cozy. Bed is comfortable. Balcony is nice. View isn't much but it's peaceful. Housekeeping is efficient when you make a request. Our TV wasn't connecting to WiFi at first but the lady suggested we unplug it and it worked after the reset. Wish they had hot continental breakfast but their pastries are nice. Good variety of teas. Main breakfast area has limited seating but there's a lounge downstairs with three more small tables. Love that their food area is open for the day so guests have access to the microwave and coffee/tea/hot water. There are movie nights every Friday in the lounge and board games. There is an indoor pool not far from the main building and fire pit areas outside. The surrounding grounds are pretty and the staff are friendly. read more

My sister & I had plans to go camping at nearby North South Lake Campground but nonstop rain made us go to "Plan B", that was to come here & we were so glad that we did. We found the Hotel Vienna to be perfect for our needs except for one, hard-to-ignore issue. We loved the contemporary, European feel to the hotel: it's large-windowed front, balconies, perfect, Zen-like decorative touches, wood beamed ceilings, the multiple outdoor fire pits & multiple porches to hang out on under large umbrellas, its downstairs lounge that offers free movies & yoga sessions, charging stations for EVs, the very welcoming & helpful Holly @ the front desk (she went to the downstairs storage area to find me a Keurig with decaf coffee pods when I saw that there is no decaf coffee available @ breakfast), its wonderful indoor pool & perfect-sized sauna, its proximity to the 2 mile Windham Path, & last, but not least, the biggest croissants you'll ever be offered at breakfast, and an owner who is everywhere, fixing, tweaking, helping, cleaning, you name it. It was everything we two sisters needed to get out of the rain except for the one issue we encountered: we were in room 210, which is situated directly above the office/staff room & staff members, according to hotel policy, smoke on the balcony outside that staff room & the smell of their cigarettes wafted up to our balcony over & over again, as well as seeping in to our room. We would have sat out on our balcony more, enjoying the view, but the odor of cigarettes made that too difficult. Do not let this sway you from coming here, it is a great place & I would happily come here again but DO request not to be in room 210, if cigarettes bother you as it does us. read more

We loved the Hotel Vienna! First off, you get amazing value for the rate. The staff are very accommodating and kind. We were bummed the indoor pool and hot tub were out of service the day of our stay because of some kind of cleaning or testing, but they looked beautiful! Our room and bathroom were spacious and clean. Loved the tub with jets and the fact that the toiletries they provided included herbal bath salts. The television had cable, there were water bottles left out for us, and the fridge fit all our drinks and leftovers. In the morning, a continental breakfast was included with some very nice croissants. We'll definitely be back! read more

I was in town for a September wedding and Hotel Vienna was one of the suggested hotels for the event so I wound up booking here. Overall I'd say it was fine, but nothing spectacular, and definitely not worth the $200 a night price. Pros: Everything was quiet and clean. The hotel has a pool (only available during certain hours) and is very close to one of the entrances for The Windham Path, a beautiful and easy hiking trail. Front desk staff was friendly and the continental breakfast included hard boiled eggs in addition to pastries and yogurt. The hotel is also walking distance from a cute coffee shop (although you'll be walking on the side of a busyish road so use caution). Cons: I think I was in the same room as Julie D. because I also paid for a "mountain view" and instead got a tree blocking everything. Wifi had major problems, there was only about one hour when it worked on my computer and otherwise it was dead. When I called the front desk to ask about it they admitted that I wasn't the only person unable to connect but offered no solutions. I feel like the hotel could implement a pretty easy technological fix, especially given how expensive the rooms can be? Cell phone signals are already pretty weak in the area, so if you're advertising that your hotel has wifi...have wifi. A few suggestions: Fix the wifi. Have better lighting in the rooms. My bathroom had a single overhead light that made getting ready somewhat difficult, and the lighting situation in the main room wasn't much better. Include instructions for how to operate the AC/Heating; they're newer units that use pictograms instead of words and I had to google the instructions to figure out how it worked. read more

As soon as we entered into the lobby, we knew we were in the right place. It was bright and clean. We received a very warm welcome with all kinds of helpful hints. The room was a very clean . The pool was well kept and lovely. I would've liked if it was a bit warmer. Well, stocked with personal care items. The continental breakfast had fresh pastries, yogurt, and cereals. My wife and I stayed at Hotel Vienna in mid October 2023. The hotel is very clean and the staff is very friendly. The hotel has two floors of rooms, but no elevator! The small ice machine is in the finished off basement area, which makes that very inconvenient due to no elevator. Lugging the suitcases up and down the stairs is an issue for me. The breakfast is very basic with no eggs or waffles, etc. The setting of the hotel is beautiful. The hotel has a Very country mountain air atmosphere and is well-maintained. read more

Just spent 3 nights at the Hotel Vienna! Such a cute, clean and friendly experience!.. the staff were GREAT! So friendly and accommodating.. we stayed in a double queen bed room that was modernized with great A/C unit.. our balcony off the room had beautiful views.. we saw a chipmunk and hummingbird ... perfect location in Windham but also a short drive to East Durham.. the pool/jacuzzi area was so nice! Peaceful, clean and nice plants at night we roasted marshmallows at the fire pit.. under the stars... we enjoyed conversation with a few guests around the fire pit .. we will definitely return.. it was the most peace we have had in a long time between work & pandemic life.. thank you!!! A truly lovely property. Staff was very friendly with helpful suggestions about dining. The pool cabin is gorgeous. There were lots of little thoughtful amenities like a hamper for used towels if you need to change them out. I believe the rooms were recently renovated, and our king room was spacious with a minimalist feel, with an incredibly comfortable bed and pillows and a very clean feel. The hotel was kept in great condition and was conveniently located about 5 minutes from Windham mountain. Jacob and Hollie at the front desk were very personable, friendly and helpful. We traveled with a large group of varying ages and Jacob was present and attentive to everyone during the continental breakfast, which was also kept very neat. I had also misplaced my car keys and they were right in the mix helping us ultimately find them. Would definitely stay here again and look forward to seeing the future renovations that Jacob talked about, as he mentioned his son and partners recently purchased the property. Way to go! read more

This is a friendly, family-run place in an area ideally suited for hiking and (apparently) skiing. Everything about the place shows some age but is well kept. The continental breakfast would be exactly average if it weren't for the pastries being warmed, which pushed it above expectations. The infused water & good cookies in the lobby were also a nice touch. Wifi signal gets pretty weak in some rooms, which is killer when TMob/ATT/VZW signals are poor to nonexistant. Just deploy a few repeaters and simplify the fragmented network config! This would be a 4-star review if it were a better value, but the price was a bit high particularly for my midweek off-season stay. read more

Just got back from a quiet weekend upstate to get away from NJ, and to of course enjoy the mountain air during the autumn. As always, the Hotel Vienna didn't disappoint. Room was amazingly clean, I love seeing vacuum marks in places most hotels don't even think of. In addition to freshly baked croissants (a favorite of mine) they had fresh strawberry danish pastries as well. Had yogurt & cereal was stocked as always. Fresh juice and the whole continental was there. We were more than full after for the ride back. Granted some may not like the ambient music they play, it's probably because it's a local radio station with older music. Might be better to get the Sirius Satellite Radio and play the generic fresh up-beat muzak people are used to. Found out there's a new soda machine, which saved me a walk to the convenience store. Now all they need is a snack vending machine next to it with amenities, etc. on the lower 2-levels and I'd be in single serving heaven! Overall we all had a great stay, filling breakfast and Rick and the entire staff were friendly and hospitable as always. I forgot to get her name, but a young-lady at the front desk even helped me prepare a wine basket for my parents. Also, Julia, one of the cleaning staff even came up and remembered my family and said hello during breakfast. Always sort of feels like we're family here. PS: They do have iPod docking music systems / alarm clocks. it's a very clean quiet place to stay. I was disappointed when I went up last weekend that the pool was closed and they didn't mention it in their website. I'm used to the former owners Rick and his wife, and I kind of miss their ways of having free cookies out and free tea and coffee all day and ice water available all the time. That no longer exists. In fact you have to buy bottled water if you want it. I do like that they allow animals now in the room. read more

We stayed for a couple of nights at Hotel Vienna because we have had such a nice time there before. As usual, staff, accommodations, exceptional service and our overall trip could not have been better. Hotel Vienna wrapped a golf special together with Windham Country Club and the price and experience was great. The fine restaurants recommended by Rick, the owner, added an extra special touch to a wonderful getaway for us. And to top it off, we were given a complementary flower arrangement to recognize our special day. We spend last Friday to Saturday at this place. The place itself is nice but its shining ages are definitely over. The COMPLIMENTARY breakfast is very average (but hey it's included in the price). The location is nice and did the trick for us. The water has a distinct smell of sulfur due to locally sourced water from a well which is definitely a surprise and not mentioned up front. The water pressure was so low that filling up the bath tub would have taken an hour or more so the (very old) jacuzzi in the room was useless. When booking, the hotel send out a list of a couple of "don'ts" which does make the experience less welcoming but it is understood that people try to get more than they've payed for. The reason for bumping this review down to two stars was a previous review where the owner lies in the response (was written by my GF on Google) and is accusing us of not telling the truth. This is sad and although the competition of hotels in this area might be high during off season this is still a total "no go". We choose the hotel because of the jacuzzi and pool but we came late due to traffic so the pool was closed. We asked if we can can use the pool after our morning plans (which would have been at 11am and checkout time) so we still can enjoy this experience. Both of those cases are not covered in the booking and it would have required some willingness from the owners and it is valid to say no - it just shows that the customers there are treaded to the minimum the hotel is providing and there seems nothing more to expect from the owners. Lying in a review just to make a better stand and accusing the customer is just showing how the place operates - come, pay, don't do this, don't do that and leave. That said - the place is nice and usable but the staff / owners are not interested in making it an enjoyable experience, which is what a hotel should provide for a weekend retreat in the first place. read more

This is a really cute hotel with potential. We booked a room with a jacuzzi tub. Absolutely worth it! The view from our balcony was pretty. Would be the perfect spot to enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. The staff was friendly and helpful. If I could offer suggestions for improvement... The bed had more bounce than the small trampoline I had as a kid. I have a bad back and I could barely roll out of bed in the morning. The people here are the absolute nicest. They go out of their way to make you feel accommodated. On the weekends there is a free shuttle to the mountain anytime you want to go during the day. The hotel is extremely clean and the rooms are pretty big. We stayed in the room with the jacuzzi and it was defintely worth the few extra dollars. The breakfast is simple but has a decent amount of options. They have a fireplace downstairs which was so nice to sit at while having a glass of wine. We will definitely be staying here next time we come to Windham! read more

I bought my room here after seeing a very inviting picture/description on LivingSocial and I regret doing so. The room was described as having a 'Jacuzzi', but failed to mention that it was just the brand of tub. Moreover, the actual tub itself was old, dirty, and not something I would want to lounge in. The room also promised a 'wine basket', which was an 8 ounce bottle of wine that tasted like bad breath that happened to be placed in a basket. The bed wasn't bad, but felt as if the frame were going to fall apart at any moment. The room lacked a few amenities that I would expect for this price (like a microwave) and I'm sorry, but corn flakes and croissants are not a 'continental breakfast buffet'. To top it off there was constantly odd or creepy music playing from the hallway speakers during daylight hours, which made the entire experience seem more like something out of a National Lampoons movie than the European chalet I hoped that it was. I've stayed in chalets in Europe and if they were truly like Hotel Vienna then I don't think tourists would ever return. read more

Husband and I went here on a Living Social deal. I was hesitant, since the last hotel we did on a deal we didn't care for, but I was very very pleased with the Hotel Vienna. The outside is cheesy. Someone was complaining that it doesnt look like a real hotel in Vienna. This is true, it's more like a Disney interpretation of a hotel in the Alps around 1800. Why is that a problem?!?!? To be fair, the decor is very dated. The furniture looks like it belongs in my parent's house, and the textiles are in 80s colors. Everything is in great shape, and good quality, so I don't blame them for sticking with it. Waste not, want not, no? We are far too wasteful a culture to begin with. The owners at Hotel Vienna seem to have put the focus where I feel it belongs: cleanliness, comfort, amenities, and quiet! The rooms and bathrooms, and public spaces (including pool, hot tub, lounge, and kitchen) are spotless and comfortable. The rooms are silent! Even though there is ambient music and loud neighbors in the hall, once you are in your room it is blissfully tranquil. I have never been in a mid-price hotel that muffles sounds so well. I also found that the continental breakfast was superior to any in this hotel's price bracket. The danishes are fresh, not the pre-packaged, plastic-wrapped things you usually see. The croissants are fresh, light, fluffy, and gigantic. The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. Every single interaction was a positive one, and everything was handled in an efficient manner. They have a lot of little things that impressed me. One was individual recycling bins in the rooms, which shows a good commitment to environmental awareness, and made being green while on vacation easy! The binders they put together for local attractions, restaurants, etc. were all great as well. The in-room jacuzzi's are one-person jacuzzi tubs, but great for tired muscles after a day on the trail. I deducted a star for few things they really should change: 1. The cleaner they used was overwhelmingly orange scented. It hit you in the face whenever you entered your room, and may have triggered my husband's allergies. 2. The headboards need to be replaced. They are too low to sit in bed and watch tv without discomfort. 3. They need in-room coffee/tea makers. It's great that they have the kitchen open till 10 with complimentary drinks, but after 10 you sometimes want a cup of tea to help you sleep. All-in-all though, a great stay. read more

We stayed with our four year old over a weekend and we loved it . Pool and jacuzzi is a plus as well. Our room was very clean and bathroom felt freshly renovated. Owners are sweet and the whole place just felt cozy. Skiing is just a few minutes away so it's very convenient as well. I've worked in New York Palace Hotel, stayed in Waldorf that's falling apart, bunch of great hotels in Vegas etc. Its always pleasant to find a small hotel that's loved and well kept especially when you are traveling with little ones. read more

We booked a night at Hotel Vienna after finding a deal on Groupon. I of course first checked the reviews on Yelp--and since they said it was clean, we were good to go! I don't care if a hotel is the most upscale place ever--if it isn't clean, you won't find me there! We called ahead of time since we anticipated hitting traffic and getting to the hotel late and the woman on the phone was very nice and reassured us that there would be someone at the front desk. Upon getting there we met a very kind woman at the front desk who set us up and gave us our key. Our room was nice--definitely out dated but everything smelled fresh and clean and no corner was missed by the cleaning crew. My only complaints: We paid a little extra to get a "mountain view" room since we thought that would be an amazing view to wait up to...what we actually saw from our balcony was a gigantic pine tree blocking our whole view of the mountains, so that was a bit disappointing. Also, our morning showers were rushed due to the fact that the water coming out of the shower head made us feel dirtier than before--it had a foul odor, not really a plus when you're trying to take a relaxing shower! Otherwise, it's a lovely place to stay--they even have an indoor pool and jacuzzi that you can use all through the night (they give you the key). We may return--maybe we'll just hold our breath when showering and save a few bucks knowing not to pay extra for something we won't get. read more

We stayed just one night here at Hotel Vienna this rainy wknd in July 2016. Upon entry to their parking lot, it seemed that we were in Europe. I'd imagine that the hot tub and swimming pool would be a welcoming sight after a full day of skiing or golfing, or any outdoor activity - it is located in a separate house a few steps from the hotel. Refreshing Lemon infused water and cookies was offered in the lobby entrance. Our room was spacious and clean. I agree with a previous review that the towels were slightly damp. The shampoo and hair conditioner is in a dispenser by the bathtub, so don't panic like I did, because I originally thought it wasn't provided. A Continental Breakfast was included in our stay. Croissants and pastries, fruit cold boiled eggs, cereal, coffee, tea, and juice. I like my croissant toasted but the toaster didn't work. We met Rick and had a nice conversation. We enjoyed our stay and definitely return. read more

My fiancee and myself have been coming here for three years straight now. Our first stay was phenomenal. I brought a romance package they had, which came with a bottle of wine from the local winery (which is now closed). The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They were able to give insight on things to do and where to see the best foliage. The hotel is close to town (not close enough to walk to, but a five minute drive). If you are into golf, the golf course is right there. The rooms are very comfortable. I must say, the outside doesn't look appealing, but once you are in there, it is fine. The beds feel amazing, the rooms are always clean. They did upgrade to a flat screen tv. They should consider upgrading to an ipod alarm clock at some point (unless they already have). The continental breakfast is amazing too. Love their cheese danish with strawberry jelly. The area is really nice too. You can hear coyotes howling at night, and if you pick a mountain view room, you can hear the creek in the morning. The brewery is a great place for food, much better than just pub food. Along with a prior review, yes, the orange scented cleaner they use definitely is very potent. May want to tone that down. I would highly suggest this place to couples and family. read more
